Love this place. I've been here once for dinner and once for lunch and the meals were excellent each time. They have a good wine selection as well. I ordered lunch from the mix and match menu which is available M-F for $12.50 and got half a chicken sandwich and some sausage penne as the other half. I love this place. I haven't been here in years and myself and my roommate decided we needed a great meal so we made reservations and came on in. Reservations- highly recommend it especially on the weekend there's a lot of people that come in for just a couple bites and a drink so the weight doesn't seem to be very long but I still recommend a reservation. We made one for 730 and we're seated by 725 Service- The service here seems to be all-around great. I know what you're thinking and what makes it great? Well from my personal experience when everyone helps you equally and you don't need to worry about waiting for one specific person to ask for things such as drinks napkins it makes your dining experience so amazing, to be able to just ask anyone for some help and no one says I'll get your server! Awsome. Even the host was doing his part to help those as he heard them need things right behind him(our table is literally behind the hostess and every time he heard in need of hours he still took the time to make it happen!) Food- The food has always been amazing here I recommend a brussels sprout appetizer and some pasta my personal favorite is the fettuccine. That being said we had something amazing happen, after our food came out the cook came to check on us and ask how the food came out(amazing btw), and low and behold we knew the chef from one of our other favorite restaurants an amazing cook by the name of Anthony. We knew him from when he used to cook at the Rippon roadhouse and boy I'll tell you what he was the only one who could touch any fish I ate there! An excellent cook with a great work ethic and seeing him here only more affirmed the great service and food . Atmosphere- Nice ambience with candles on every table, but not too dim where we can't see I'm not a huge fan of that, I like that it is still well lit. Parking - plenty of parking right next to the parking garage and guess what they do validate parking it's harder to get it validated every other place around downtown but not here no hassle. We ended up at Fuzio's before a show at the Gallo Center and I have to say it's the best meal we've had in a long time. I had the crispy calamari linguine - delicious! Don't give in! DON'T!!!! This placed is supposed to have some sort of fusion of noodles. Located near the downtown area of Modesto, probably one of the few nicer areas of the city. Sure the location and decor look nicer and upscale compared to other places in Modesto, but don't be fooled! Let's get down to the real deal the food and service: service is ehh okay, could be better, so let's move on. Now for the food -- crap. Yes Fuzio's = another word for a fusion of crap put together in a nice looking package (the decor of the building). I ordered some sort of Calamari pasta dish which was breaded and fried to a crisp.. to the point that they were all burnt! The taste was so awful, basically it ruined the rest of the pasta because all I tasted was burned bread. Even the super sourness of the lemon juice in the pasta could not drown out the burnt taste. Yum. Ok, so everyone deserves a second chance right? Well how about my sister's salad which looks like it was drenched in dressing, that the salad was drowning??? It didn't even look appetizing; it looked almost like it was rotting from where I was sitting. And taste could not back it up either, she said it was not good and was too drenched, and didn't even finish it. What a nice mother's day lunch -- the time we spent with her, not the food. If they ever offered us a gift card in apologies for the poorly prepared food, I think I'd end up giving it to one of the local bums on the street instead of actually use it for myself and friends or family. In my honest opinion from someone as lucky as me to have eaten many different foods from places in different parts of the state, country, and globe, Fuzio's is a whopping 1 star, since I can't give 0. I believe that those who like this place only think so because they have had little to compare to, and are not as cultured perhaps. Also, I think it's because there is not much better selection in Modesto. That's the reason I think this place is still in business, because the locals have not experienced much better and are fooled by the decor and location since it's more nice, and more modern and they think that this means the food is/will be good there. The food ranges from terrible to not bad. Their small salads are actually okay, with fresh greens and decent dressings. For whatever reason, several of the dishes I've ordered there contain cilantro in some form. I generally HATE cilantro, unless it's well-masked or in tiny quantities. They like to pile it on over there, or maybe that's just my luck. I learned about five years ago, when my circle of friends was very into going there before or after a movie at the Brenden, that if you say, 'No cilantro on dish xyz, please," you'll get it anyway. I have to lie and say that I'm allergic to cilantro and that my throat will close up if I eat it. Only then can I get a cilantro-free meal! So there's that, lol. Then there's the fact that their pasta dishes are, ironically, some of the worst things you can order there. You're better off sticking to a salad or sandwich if you have to go. I've never ordered off of their entree section; nothing else I've eaten there has given me much confidence that the cost would be worth it. I think their drinks are expensive when you consider that you can get a much tastier cocktail at Bacchus in the same price range. And you can get a much better meal at Baccus too, along with Skewers, Harvest Moon, Picasso's (I agree with Tori H!), and probably a few other restaurants within the same area. All Fuzio's really has going for it is some nicely lit decor and a VERY lucky, convenient location. read more

We did not eat there we stood at the hostess station for at least 5 min no one ever said anything to us and we observed menus sitting on the tables so we seated ourselves. Then we sat at least another 10 min with servers going by us never speaking. We left and walked to another place. I would give no stars but that option is not available. read more

I travel to Modesto often and was happy to stumble into this place. The menu is all over the place, so was a bit concerned if they could pull it off. With everything from Asian and Latin flavors, I was pleased to see that they kept the combinations pretty straightforward. I started with the chicken lettuce cups. It was a build your own setup with super fresh baby romaine, crispy noodles, picketed carrots and a super flavorful hot and spicy chicken to make the whole thing come together. The hot with the cold and crispy was very nice. It was a nice start to my meal. I followed with the NY Steak, well seasoned and beautifully charred, served with some tasty potatoes and green beans. A generous portion and properly cooked, very satisfying. The food was much better than expected, but the best part of e experience was the service. I sat at the bar, and the server took great care of me. Very professional and friendly at the same time. Very attentive and got all the touches right. I found the whole staff very hospitable. I am not one who usually complains as I can understand that this is a business and clearly they are not going to make everyone happy, but being ignored is not something I enjoy. Other than the service, the food is quite good, I ordered the chicken parmesan which was delicious. I have also enjoyed some of their mixed drinks, I believe it was something with watermelon, very good as well. This restaurant is in a prime location as a movie theatre is only a few steps away. Disclaimer: We were comped our meals (without asking) because of the horrible service, but I feel like the food was still less than desirable so this review is still of value. Come here only if you have a lot of time to kill. The restaurant was pretty empty, but we decided to eat at the bar because we wanted a more casual setting. There were a couple people sitting at the bar, and only two other tables had customers, so again... pretty empty. My friend and I order drinks when the server came over. No problems. When she came back with our drinks we were ready to order. I am always nervous when a server doesn't write the order down, and this night would be no different. We ordered an appetizer and two meals. (I requested my salad have the dressing on the side and no salami, my friend didn't have any special requests). After about a half hour after ordering, we realized the table behind us that had six people and sat down after we ordered had received their food already! When we flagged down our server, she said that we ordered an appetizer that took a long time to make and an entree that takes a long time to make, and that she put them in separately so that we'd get the appetizer first. She said that she didn't realize we were in a hurry. Hurry? We'd been in the restaurant 45 minutes and all we'd received so far is a mediocre appetizer (more on that later). It wasn't that we were in a hurry, it is that if you know that we ordered things that take a while, and then choose to stack the orders, couldn't you have let us know? It would have been NO PROBLEM! Our server, without prompting, said that she'd comp our meals for the trouble. My guess is that she forgot to put in our entree orders after putting in the appetizer and that is why she comped our meals so quickly. We asked for more bread to go with the appetizer cheese dip while we waited and she asked if it were ok if it wasn't toasted, so that they could get it out to us quick. Yes! Fine! It still took 15 minutes for the sliced bread to arrive at the table. Over an hour after first sitting down, we finally got our dinner. Yay!!! And of course, my salad was sopping with dressing and they hadn't even put the blue cheese on it. Boo!!! The one good thing is that they remembered to not put the salami on it, but it was inedible because of how much dressing was on it. When I mentioned this to our server (our meal already been comped, I just wanted to bring it to her attention) she said they don't usually put the crumbled blue cheese on the salad when you ask for the dressing (balsamic... btw, whats the correlation?!) on the side. When I reiterated that the dressing was not actually on the side, she offered to remake it. No way! I'm not waiting another hour for my food! The baked garlic brie wasn't very good. We only finished it because we were waiting so long for our meals and we were starving. And it wasn't a baked brie like you'd imagine, it was just a ramekin of gooey cheese. Not sure why this was the appetizer that takes the longest to make. But if it takes 15 minutes to get sliced bread, it must take a really long time to toast the crostinis it comes with. I can't give an accurate review of my chopped salad because balsamic is so tart and there was so much of it, i couldn't taste anything else. Which is a shame because on paper it sounded delicious. My friend's chicken entree (we are guessing this is the other "takes a long time" entree considering I ordered a salad) was decent, but she admitted definitely not worth the wait. By the time we left, the restaurant and bar were both pretty busy. Our server seemed stretched thin. But this is no excuse for such shoddy service. The server told me that they had a special, which was a panini sandwich on an onion roll with blue cheese spread, bacon jam and grilled pears topped with arugula. This chain used to be a favorite of mine when I lived in Davis. The food was reasonably priced, the drink specials were good and the service lived up to expectations. But alas.... that was in Davis. I recently went to the Modesto Fuzio's and was sorely disappointed. The service was okay and the drinks were the same, but the food was Olive Garden quality. The firecracker pork (what little pork there was) was overcooked and not spicy. My wife had a salad that was supposed to have blue cheese and apples on it, which I would say there wasn't really either. Overall for $25 bucks I think I would have had a better time at Applebees. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant 1 star was because compared to a lot of the other options in Modesto, this is still pretty good. read more

Fuzios Universal Pasta is a franchised chain owned and operated by the folks who own Chevys Fresh Mex. And since Chevys was acquired by El Torito's parent company a while back, it is probably cousin to other corporate chain restaurant concepts. Since I have only dined at the Modesto location to date, these opinions are obviously directed to that location only....but at least you'll get an idea about the menu and overall setup of this joint. Fuzios is a great idea for a dining establishment...in theory. And for the most part, they are not at all disappointing. You walk in by way of a large double door at the foremost corner of the restaurant. It is an open, showcase bar and kitchen arrangement. The bar and cocktail area seating stretches out to the left, the showcase kitchen to the right, with the main dining area just off the kitchen section. It is very small, but open and airy...decorated in a modern, understated style. There is also ample outside seating in the patio area, highly recommended weather permitting of course. The Modesto Fuzios is located in a closed street plaza area (10th street) right next to one of the new government buildings and across the street from the Brenden Theatre. The big Doubletree Hotel and Convention Center is within shouting distance as are several other downtown destinations including other restaurants and a few night spots. The city's covered parking structure is right behind it and I believe they validate parking (but don't quote me on that). Fuzio's Universal Pasta menu is just what it seems...pasta dishes! Although there is a selection of salads and some sandwiches, the bulk of the offerings are pasta driven. My main issue with the menu is that it is too small. Simplicity is nice, but there is not a lot of diversity here. There are some Italian Plates (ie, Linguine & Meatballs, Angel Hair & Tomatoes), and some Asian Bowls (ie, Vegetable pad Thai Noodles, Shanghai Curry Chicken). They also offer a few other Universal Favorites such as Mediterranean Salmon, Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Parmesan. The appetizer and salad choices are pretty limited also. All in all, the food is not bad...depending on your luck of the draw with which cook is working that night! We have dined there and been thoroughly satisfied with the savory flavor and presentation of the plates. Then returned to be served utterly tasteless meals. Not real consistant. I have knowledge that at the beginning, Fuzios literally made everything from scratch...habanero pesto, Sicilian style meatballs, and in-house-made, fresh-baked Focaccia bread. Since being taken over by El Torito's company, they have "experimented' with commissary ordering, ie, some items produced by an outside company. The foccacia bread is just one example I know of for sure. We used to love waiting for our food while scarfing down a few generous slabs of warm, fresh-baked focaccia bread dipped in their EVOO and balsamic vinegar. It was a true Fuzios signature item. But not any longer. That bread now feels and tastes like stale Wonder Bread. Overall, the staff is friendly and attentive...if you get the right server. Like any eaterie, that too is a crap shoot. The atmosphere is warm, busy, downtown-bistro style. The bar kind of specializes in Cosmos of any shape and color...but then, who doesn't nowadays? On Friday and Saturday nights, it seems to be one of the main places to be...and to be seen. I would highly recommend giving Fuzios Universal Pasta in Modesto a try. My favorite menu item...besides the pre-meal foccacia bread they used to serve? The Chicken Sausage Penne (if it's made right). And for $9.95, the price is right. In fact, all of Fuzios menu pricing is very reasonable. On my Good, Bad, & Ugly scale...Fuzios Modesto gets a Good...minus. They gotta go back to the old bread recipe! read more

I'm from out of town & happened to walk by this place playing Pokemon Go & saw the $3 wine Happy Hour Special & knew I had to come back! I came back, ordered my wine & some calamari. Calamari was on Happy Hour & it was half off! AND the serving wasn't any less than what it would be normal price. The calamari came with shrimp as well, the spicy cocktail sauce wasn't as spicy as I would have liked it & the aioli sauce was pretty good. Calamari is my thing, everywhere I go I HAVE to try the calamari, this place was pretty good. The only downside was the shrimp tasted almost "watery" if that makes sense. Fusion Universal Bistro sits on 10th Street in the heart if downtown Modesto. A convenient restaurant before or after catching a movie at Brendens Theater. The place is upscale for most locals. If you're not a cook and you enjoy frozen meals at a upscale restaurant, Fuzio is the place to eat. Just to be safe we both ordered something small. My friend ordered a simple mac n cheese, literally, it looked and tasted as it was microwaved, it had the hard crust, cold on top and warm and wet on bottom. Disgusting, the only fresh part about the simple dish was the minced cilantro on top. I ordered the Vietnamese spring roll. This was the worst Vietnamese spring roll ever. The rice paper was soft and the edges were hard. Wtf, who messes up on a simple rice paper prep? Another yelped mentioned the "fusion" in Fuzio foods, and this combination wasn't good, wasn't impressive, and the combination of ingredients didn't blend well. The dipping sauce was definitely NOT made from scratch. You can't fool a foodie Fuzio. Their sweet spicy sauce looked and tasted exactly like the Ma Ploy sauce, a Thailand condiment, found at your local Safeway and Asian markets. Not impressed. I really like Fuzio's. I've had business lunches here, informal interviews, drinks after work, dinner on the weekend before a movie - the place is pretty versatile. The menu is solid, with a good variety. The salads are huge! The bread is tasty (similar to Macaroni Grille), and the dinners are filling with some decent Italian fare. Overall, I'd say the dining is 3.5 stars. The service and the location are 4.5 stars. The restaurant is downtown, within the blocked off 10th Street courtyard. It's the perfect place to grab something to eat/drink before a movie at Brenden Theatres. They also validate parking in the adjacent parking garage. The best part about this place - the outdoor seating area. In the Spring or Fall, it's a great atmosphere and very comfortable to have dinner and drinks. On weekend evenings, the courtyard will get busy with teenagers going to the movies, but it's not crazy. The best time to hit this place (in my opinion) is after work or during lunch. It's a chain, but so what. It doesn't feel that way. read more
