Food was great. Large portions. Lamb popsicles and braised short ribs ,garlic mashed and asparagus. Everything tasted great and cooked to perfection.

This is one of the best stand alone hotel restaurants I've been to. The restaurant was clean and each table had fresh flowers on them. The service was exceptional and that was solely because of our waiter - Dino! Let me tell ya growing up in vegas where customer service is everything Dino was one of the best waiters I've ever had. He was affable and went above and beyond to provide a great dinning experience for my wife and I. Side note to manager - give this guy a raise or promotion. Ok...to the food. I ordered the short rib panini and was blown away by the flavor, freshness and tenderness of the meat. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've had. My wife got some buffalo wings and side Caesar salad which were also great. The wings were perfectly tossed in buffalo sauce and had a nice crunch on them. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying at the double tree or anyone visiting Modesto. Bravo!

Food was good, service was friendly. Was pretty empty when we went. Wasn't bad at all, I'd go back to give it another try.

Maxi's is located inside the Doubletree Hotel. So to start the day I came here for breakfast. Once you enter you are greeted and seated immediately as they must cater to business travelers that have limited time. As most hotels offer a buffet I always stay clear and order off the menu. Two reasons I don't need the extra calories of having everything on a buffet. Also I want it freshly made for me and just to order what I want. Cost wise it is usually less but it isn't the sole driver for my decision here. I order a cappuccino and it arrives quickly. For my breakfast I have eggs sunny side up. My bread choices did not include my favorite rye bread so I got sour dough figuring it is usually a good choice in San Francisco and geographically close enough. Breakfast came out quickly and was served just as fast. I was surprised to learn from the waitress that they are open all day. Which is great to have thst option on the hotel as it is convenient. When it was time to settle up the check I printed and signed my name. Since I did not use my middle name my server checked my ID. Now I am all for safety but logically speaking who would steal my identity and get my room number correct as well as my name and signature but for a middle name check. Whatever sad times we are living in and Modesto must have alot of criminals coming through. Service and food were good as well as the convenience of being on site where I was stayimg. The next day I just wanted to leave Modesto quickly so I skipped breakfast and checked out of the hotel instead.

Nothing like a glass of wine after a long day!!!

I stayed at the hotel last night and had dinner and breakfast this morning. Salmon was excellent and eggs Benedict pretty good. I'm not normally a bread eater, but those poppyseed sourdough rolls were bomb! Food is presented nicely and tasty. Ambience and customer service also very good. Nice place for a romantic dinner or by yourself. Will come again when back in town in December.

Very tender and well seasoned Braised Shortribs and a glass of Zin. Freshly baked bread with butter is a bonus. The staff was very friendly.

Pork chop with risotto, brussel sprouts, and endive.

Sadly disappointed…read more My friends and I stopped by Commonwealth on a Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. It was a beautiful day so it was busy for both indoor and outdoor seating. Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

I have left wonderful reviews in the past for this place but I have to share my experience…read morerecently. My boyfriend and I have been to Standard Pub several times during the day, and every visit has been fantastic. We've enjoyed the food, drinks, and even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner on multiple occasions. The service was always welcoming, and the food was consistently phenomenal. Because of those great experiences, we decided to bring some friends on a Saturday night. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the atmosphere looked promising. There appeared to be a DJ setting up, and the crowd seemed excited for a night of music, food, and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience that evening was completely different from what we had come to expect. We ordered food and drinks, and while our server wasn't outright rude, he seemed uninterested in providing the level of service we had previously received. As the night went on, things became increasingly odd. Shortly after ordering another round of drinks, while our drinks were still full and we had just received them, the server approached our table and asked if we were finished. My boyfriend jokingly responded, "No, let me talk to your manager," and laughed, assuming the server was joking as well. The server responded, "Yeah, it's my brother," but with an attitude that left everyone at our table looking at each other wondering what had just happened. He then informed us that we needed to put a credit card on file. At that point, we had already been there for over an hour, and it seemed strange that this requirement was only being brought up then. We also noticed that no other tables around us were being asked for a card. The most disappointing part came when we received the bill. There was an additional $60 service charge added--$35 on my friends' bill and $25 on ours. Confused, we asked for an explanation. The explanations we received kept changing. First, we were told it was because my boyfriend was sitting with another group, which was completely false. Then we were told it was because the bill exceeded $100. After that, we were told it was because there were more than six people in our party, despite there only being four of us. The inconsistent explanations were frustrating and made it feel as though the staff were simply making up reasons to justify the charge. Our issue wasn't necessarily with a service fee itself--it was the lack of disclosure and the conflicting stories we were given when we asked about it. To make matters worse, the receipt also included a separate line for an additional tip. After discussing it with them and explaining that additional charges should be clearly communicated to customers, the service charge was ultimately removed. This review is not a reflection of the food, which remains excellent, nor of our previous experiences at Standard Pub. It is solely based on the service and handling of the situation during our Saturday night visit. We left feeling disappointed and confused, especially because this establishment had earned our trust through many positive visits in the past. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident and that management addresses these issues so other customers don't have a similar experience

The hard seltzer did have all those flavor notes and it wasn't overly chemical sweetened, which I greatly appreciated.
