I recently spent Christmas in Bali on the "Classic Bali" tour with G Adventures. I booked it on a whim after I was going through some tough times in my personal life. This would be my first time travelling "alone", to SE Asia, and on a G tour. I was so nervous right before my trip, the thought of not going crossed my mind many-a-times. Well, I ended up going and had the time of my life! From the start, I found booking the trip to be extremely easy and efficient. Their website is full of information on the different types of tours, the itinerary, what accommodations and transportation will be used, etc. I booked the trip through their website and was extremely impressed and appreciative of the service I received with their call center (which is 24/7) when I had questions. Now for the actual tour itself... The "classic" tours are the perfect balance of planned (fun and interesting) activities, and free time to do our own thing. I loved the style of these tours and would definitely recommend it to those who want to see the highlights of a place, but still have some freedom to do their own thing. I was a little hesitant about the 1-2 hour bus rides peppered in the itinerary of the trip, but was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the buses were. It also allowed us to see every part of the island, so it was great! The people on my tour (15) were a mix of personalities and backgrounds but we all got along great! I now also have places to stay across the world, so that's an added bonus. The CEO was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and fun to be around. The accommodations were OK at the start, but got better with each town/city we visited. I'm told this trend is typical on most G tours by a seasoned G tour participant. I'm an introvert and this entire experience was way out of my realm but I am so glad I did it. There are cheaper tours out there, but I think G deserves every $ spent. I think that also means it draws on a different crowd (i.e. not a booze cruise or party tour). I'm already looking to book my next G to Peru to hike in the Inca Trail. Thank you G! read more

I used Gadventures for a trip to S africia at the end of Jan 2017. The itinerary of locations was great however if you are looking for a company with customer service who stands behind there CEOs then I would keep looking. All over the websites it states you can add onto your trip easily. Well I decided to add on a leg to Zimbabwe which 5 others in my group had already signed up for. There is very little communication between the field as we were already on tour and the Canadian office. It's not due to cell phones or internet service but lack of desire to find out information. After 5 days I found out for 600 US dollars I could go onto Zimbabwe and I checked with our CEO to say what time I would need to make my return flight back from johanasburg to the states which she replied after 3:00pm. It wasn't till we had inquired about flights back from Zimbabwe to Johanasburg days later did she mention in a laugh that I needed to get an additional flight on my own. What was I to do at that point? I ended up having to shell out another 200.00 to pay for the flight. When I told her and the next CEO that the company should be responsible for my flight, the response was they would have to check with the Canadian office. I have worked customer service jobs my whole life and they should empower there employees if a customer has been improperly informed and they actually want to retain customers than some sort of repayment should be made. They could have easily paid for an exercursion which I am sure would have been for a discounted price than customers would have paid, split my airline ticket with me but all I got was we apologize for the mistake we made but you are responsible. They obviously don't care about repeat customers and several of my other tour mates witnessed this poor service and have also complained. It's too bad since the trip should have been an amazing experience however it's now tarnished all due to poor communication and utterly disappointing customer service. It's really a shame.. Took a trip with GAP to South America last year. I do not recommend this company. I paid for the pricey comfort tour. The hotels were substandard (dirty, plumbing problems) and they booked all the intercontinental flights last minute to save money so we constantly had to travel in 4 separate groups (there were only 15 people in our group total so you wouldn't think that arranging to have us travel together would be too hard). Group leaders admitted that GAP knows about the above problems (due to constant customer compaint) but don't really care. In sum, find another company to travel with. read more

I went on a Costa Rica adventure in February 2020. After I returned, the company hounded me to leave a review for a measly 5% discount on a future trip hoping my words would add money in their pocket. I ask them for a rebate for services implied but not rendered. The itinerary that they present to sell the trip is not how they handle it when you go on the trip. The itinerary gives a timeframe for the length of time that you will spend for instance in a national park. Just about everything during this trip was in a hurried manner even though we had nothing to hurry up for. The ceo told us not to stop and take pictures and if we weren't on the bus when it left we would have to find our own way back to the hotel and we were returned an hour earlier than what we paid for. This happened throughout the trip and then the ceo left the scene the day before the departure date. G adventures never responded to my requests and that's just what you will find if you book with them. BUYER BEWARE read more

These guys are crooks. I booked a trip to Costa Rica and it said nowhere in the incredibly long packet about it being the rainy season nor did anyone tell me in 3 different occasions when I spoke to them live. I realized a few days later on my own and they refused to let me book a different trip or refund my money. These guys should be shut down for fraud-- why are they even running trips with outside activities during the known rainy season except as a scam to make more money? I spoke to managers twice and they both refused to connect me to someone more senior to help me. Horrible customer service. read more

I've used G Adventures twice. The first time, nearly ten years ago in Mexico and Guatemala, was a very good experience. The second time--not so much. I went on a tour of Burma and there were a number of issues. I realize that Burma is going to have problems due to the sudden influx of tourists after so many years of near isolation. But even taking that into account, G Adventures could have done better. First of all, I paid G Adventures for a taxi from the Yangon airport to the hotel. $60. At the end of the trip I got my own cab (for $10). So G Adventures drastically overcharged. The hotel in Yangon was a hole--miserable place. G Adventures had arranged for me to stay three extra days in this hotel at the end of the trip (I had to stay the extra days because I wasn't able to get an earlier flight home). My tour stayed in a *much* nicer hotel in Yangon a couple of days later so I said to the tour guide "Could you get in touch with your colleagues and change the hotel at the end of the trip for me?" I was giving G Adventures more than two week's notice to cancel the flea bag hotel and book a room in the superior hotel (and I was willing to pay any extra fees or penalties). The tour continued, weeks passed and I never did get an answer from my guide--despite repeated requests. How hard could it be? In the end I never did get a refund on the terrible hotel so I ended up losing more than $300. When I returned home from the trip I wrote the tour guide and asked "The issue of the hotel was never resolved, but the tour is over so you don't have to worry about it. Could you give me the contact names at G so I can get in touch with them?" He never bothered to reply. Nice! After a few e-mail exchanges G Adventures agreed to credit me the amount on my next trip, but it's unlikely I'll take advantage because I won't use them again. The hotel mess, along with other blunders really disappointed. Before the trip G Adventures kept sending out conflicting e-mails. ATM machines are not available in Burma. Then ATM machines ARE available in Burma (wrong). The Golden Rock site is open and on the tour. Then: the Golden Rock site is closed for restoration (also completely untrue). How could they foul things up so badly? And remember the first horrible hotel that we stayed in? That was the third or fourth hotel that G Adventures booked. I'd receive an e-mail saying "You'll be saying in ABC Hotel in Yangon." Two weeks later: "Oops. No, you're staying in DEF Hotel." Two more weeks later: "Sorry! You're now staying in GHI Hotel." All that poor communication and endless changes to stay in one of the worst hotels of my life. So--in the end I won't use G Adventures again. From what I heard from others during the tour, there are other tour companies that do a much better job. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Went on "the best of Greece tour" last year. "adventure tour"?! You must be joking. So many things went wrong on this trip and were customer service based i.e. not having booked enough tickets for transportation/lodging. One resolution was that 3 of us had to walk our bags to another hotel (that was more of an unsafe shack) about a mile away from the original hotel, where all the other people in our group stayed and we were expected to meet back there the next morning for an early departure. I'd be ok with all the crappy things that happened because sometimes that's just what you get NBD, but.......WORST OF ALL they allowed a woman to go on the trip that was 6 months pregnant and out of shape, she brought a heated electric blanket, she was constantly holding the whole group back, had a crush on the tour guide soaking up most of his attention because he was constantly helping her, carrying her bags (to help the process along) and made so many many excuses/accommodations for her. Although whenever she went to bed or stayed back on our long treks, we had a great time! Our tour guide was great whenever crazy was gone. Clearly stated in the description of the tour "must be able to carry own bags" I did, however, receive a BS generic " I am very sorry that your experience with G Adventures was one with such disappointment." e-mail after I completed a reviewed of the tour to the company. I am so very disappointed in g adventures as a whole. I had heard nothing but good things about g adventures so was excited to book some trips with them. My first mistake was booking two trips with them before I had gone on the first. I will say that the portal online was easy to use to make sure you had everything in place and ready to go. I signed up for the transportation from the airport to my hotel.When arriving to the airport in Delhi, I did not see anyone holding a sign waiting for me. As a solo female traveler, I wandered around amongst all the men trying to find the person responsible to drive me. I did not find anyone. I tried to look for a number on my phone to call g adventures and 10 min later someone came up to me and asked if I was who I am for the ride. The tour itself was the worst tour out of six tours that I'd been on. This is due to very dirty accommodation, poor organization on the tour guides part, and low quality of activities offered. The guide would only inform us the day of, of what we were doing. When asked a day before, she would tell me that she would tell me tomorrow. We often spent long periods of time waiting to go for transportation or even to leave after meals. The transportation was dirty, hot, and stinky- always. After this trip, I began to dread going on my next trip. I was dumb and booked a 30 day trip. I knew after this one that I would be miserable after 30 days If it went the same way as the last. I wanted to either cancel or shorten my trip. I spent 45 min on hold trying to talk to someone. The conversation did not go very far and after 3 weeks.. yes..3 entire and whole weeks, we were finally making leway. They said that I was 3 days too late to get any refund on my trip. I decided I would go and just do part of it. I thought I was done everything, rebooked my flights and what not, only to get an email from g adventures saying it's not finalized yet and I should have looked into my flight first before booking to doing anything. The last email was quite rude and at this point I don't want to go at all. G adventures has not made me excited for travelling but rather dreading it, which should never happen. I wanted to try a national geographic trip with them as well as a class tour as I did the 18-39 tour group, but now there is no way I'm giving them anymore of my money. I would never recommend g adventures to anyone. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. At one time, I would have ranked G Adventures at four stars. We have used them eight times, and the itineraries, tour guides, and prices were reasonable. The downside has always been hotel quality, which is quite variable, unless you book "comfort" style. However, their customer service has become unacceptable in the last year. We booked tours 9 and 10, after being assured that the required "letter of invitation", obtained through G Adventures foreign partner, would come in time to obtain visas. We are now looking at the possibility of losing $11,000+ in pre-paid fees/expenses, since no letter yet and we fly - maybe - in two weeks. No one at G is particularly helpful. Some calls or emails not returned, or inappropriate and confusing late responses. On a previous issue, we had to send three emails and a phone call to obtain an evaluation form for a prior trip (required for a future discount) which is usually sent by email at the end of a trip but wasn't for some reason. Other minor annoying customer service issues. Update: I finally got a manager's attention who at least made an a big attempt to solve the problem. Bottom line - we were able to make the two trips, after spending (our) extra money for expedited visa service. The letter of invitation, which caused most of the problem, was not even required (G Adv didn't know that - hmm). They promised to review/correct all of the erroneous information on their web site regarding these trips and requirements. I've traveled with G Adventures once now and tried twice more. The only reason why I continue to try with this company is because of the amazing experience I had on my first trip. I did the 6 week Africa overland trip from Cape Town to Nairobi in 2010 and it was amazing. Largely this was due to our tour guides who were all local South Africans and actually contract with an African travel company called Indaba based in Cape Town. The second time I tried to deal with GAdventures, was to try to coordinate a similar African trip, this time for a private school group as I am a teacher. This was the WORST experience of all time. After initiating contact, I was repeatedly ignored, return emails that were promised in a week stretched to 3 weeks and I had to email them again in order to get a response. No effort was made to accommodate requests even though this was a private group and you would think they would be more flexible in terms of customizing parts of the itinerary. I was passed from one representative to the next, with no notification that I was receiving a new rep. Often the same individual would ignore requests I had made in terms of itinerary and quotes and give me the wrong quotes. At long last (after 3 months of this) I received an email saying, "We cannot help you with your trip. You should go to someone else." The third time was just this week when I signed up and put down a deposit for a 'guaranteed departure' 6 day Amazon trip. After speaking to a representative on the phone who assured me I would hear confirmation in 2-3 business days, I received an email saying that 'Due to lack of availability, they were not able to confirm the tour for you.' Why would you call something a 'guaranteed departure' if you need someone else to confirm first? That is misleading and disingenuous and disappointing to say the least. I agree with everyone else that the prices for the longer more involved trips are decent, and that if you get an amazing guide - then it can be the best trip ever. So far, their customer service leaves MUCH to be desired and I'm starting to think that I'm not going to bother with this company anymore. It's sad because they portray themselves as a caring and competent travel company, but underneath, the truth seems to be that they are not interested in making an effort. read more

I've traveled twice with G Adventures - once on the Costa Rica on a Shoestring Tour, and again Amazon to the Andes in Peru. Like some have said, a lot of your experience depends on your tour guides and also the group dynamic. I've always been pretty lucky in that I have had great tour guides who are clearly passionate about their culture and have had group members who are (for the most part) interested in immersing themselves in another culture. Some of the hotels are not always the best, but part of their business model is to support the local economy; therefore, they are not going to place you in some American hotel chain like Holiday Inn - they will pick a local hotel that will support a local business owner. Sometimes I've been disappointed that guides have picked restaurants for group dinners that are more "American/Tourist"-like; however, keep in mind that may be for safety reasons. There are some in the group who strayed from the suggestions of the tour guide and got sick either because the food was not prepared in the most sanitary way or because our stomachs are not used to the local bacterias. Overall, I have really liked my experiences with G Adventures and I find it's a very easy way for me as a single woman who does not speak another language to still get out there and see the world in a safe way. I also appreciate their business philosophies which makes me feel better about throwing my money their way rather than some other company that might have better (more American-standard) accommodations. read more

I was SO looking forward to the trip.Unfortunately I had to have an emergency surgery 10 days before my trip departed. I asked if I could reschedule. "NO". No rescheduling, no refunds. I put out $4000 for a trip they are obviously proffitng on, and they keep all of it . They will "hold onto" $250 of my money for a future booking. FUTURE BOOKING? is that a joke? read more

Classic Hong Kong to Beijing Adventure Although I had an amazing time in China, I found the tour lacking in every way, especially for the high price you pay. Last year I went to Vietnam and Cambodia with G Adventures, which was amazing and I would recommend this trip to everyone. This can't be said of my trip to China. The tour guide (CEO) provided very little information about the towns or the sights we were seeing. Opposed to my trip last year, we did not have any local guides in China. I felt that we were often dropped off at a certain location and were left to ourselves to figure everything out. Also, I felt like there was very little to see in the first few cities we were visiting. And when we got to the main attractions (Xi'an an Beijing) we got too little time. As I said before, the activities that were included were rushed and without a lot of information. The optional activities were always ridiculously expensive, especially the transport costs. We didn't get any maps of the cities we visited (The CEO in Vietnam and Cambodia printed out a map for us in every city) and we got little information as to what we could visit. I am well aware that the standard in China is lower than in Europe, but most of the hotels were just terrible. We often stayed in run-down hotels, where the floor has never seemed to be cleaned and the shower was full of mold. Also, the breakfast that was included (food is only included a few times) was low-grade. They never had enough food because our group always reached for the western style breakfast. Only the breakfast in Xi'an and Beijing was good. The overall transport was good. The flights we took were short, the high-speed train was extremely comfortable and even the bus we took wasn't all that bad. However, the overnight train that we took in China is something I wish to never ever ever ever do in my entire life again. I have no clue what the person who organized the tour was thinking. The day before we were to see one of the highlights of China (the forbidden city) we took this overnight train that lasted 6 hours. By the time all the lights were out and the other passengers were somewhat quiet, we only got 4 hours sleep left. As a result, we were like zombies the day after and were not quite in the right shape to fully enjoy the forbidden city. Moreover; the overnight train had zero comfort. It had hard beds and we slept surrounded by strangers (they did not even put our beds together), also men and women were not separated. This resulted to me sleeping across the isle of a fat Chinese guy, snoring all "night". Lastly, we had this incident in Chengdu where we arrived late in the evening at the train station to realize our train had been cancelled due to the heavy rains and such. We waited several hours under the canopy of the train station (because we couldn't get in), literally standing in the rain, while our CEO was trying to reach his manager for a solution. I find it extremely odd that nobody was following up our trip and that they did not see this coming or had a plan B. After a while they booked us a hotel and a flight for the day after without consulting us or asking for our consent. They then demanded us to pay for everything, which we didn't do of course. The plane they booked was scheduled for the day after was only around 19 o' clock, because of that we didn't have any time to see Xi'an. We only had time to see the terracotta warriors. Luckily, after we refused to pay for the extra night and plane, they agreed the following morning to cover these costs. I am very grateful for that but am still disappointed in the lack of professionalism on their side I don't think I will ever travel with G adventures again. I had extremely good experiences in Vietnam and Cambodia, but this trip to China was very disappointing and way too expensive for what was included. read more

I am reviewing only pre-trip customer service here. When we were deciding on whether to book with G Adventures, our representative was extremely helpful and replied to our emails and phone calls very quickly. As soon as we booked, the communication nearly stopped or was delayed and not thorough. Then I had a medical issue that will prevent me from attending the first three days of the trip. My rep never called or emailed me back, so I had to speak with someone else. She told me I had no options and would not help me even make alternative arrangements that I would pay for. Then she recommended that I just arrive late and claim travel interruption through my travel insurance (which they require we purchase in advance). I did contact my insurance and they said I could make a claim. When I called G Adventures back the next day, they initially said they could not provide a partial invoice for the first three days since it was a package. This makes no sense--surely I am not the first person to make this request. So I asked her to speak to her supervisor, and after a long process, she said she might be able to get her operations team to put together a list of costs. I haven't even been on the trip yet, but I can say that the customer service is focused on selling you the trip. They are not helpful, nor do they show much concern, for any issues that may arise. I sincerely hope that the service we receive in Peru will be much better than the service I received from their sales office. read more

I had a fantastic experience when I went to Colombia with G Adventures. I wasn't sure how I felt about going on a group 'tour' since I've always been an independent traveler, but I really enjoyed it. It was a great mix of exploring cities, getting our hands dirty (coffee farm, mud volcano, sleeping overnight in a beach hammock, etc), enjoying authentic food (fresh fish, patacones, coconut rice) and learning about Colombia's crazy history. I didn't experience any issues - from customer service to booking to the actual trip, I was really impressed! read more

I think the idea of the travel company is fine. But salaries to their employees make them having a bad service in general. Its well known guides need to make some tricks to get extra cash and group people not notice it. They provide in some cases accommodation at very bad options even its an adventure but they can always spend in something better. The company treat in general bad their guides in some cases are freelancers they explode them and later kick them out. Having non stop tours is dangerous and some guides take drugs to keep the track. Guides they sometimes do not have insurance. read more

I just finished the "Berlin to London on a shoestring" YOLO tour and was very disappointed as G Adventures did not provide added value. Met some great people in my group but apart from this, my experience was no better than it would have been had I booked/travelled on my own without G Adventures and in fact, it was probably worse. I expressed my feedback to G Adventures and received a concerned response from their CEO (the actual CEO, not the Tour Guide) as well as a detailed explanation from a Customer Service rep and credit of $200 that is currently being processed back to my credit card. However, as the response never addressed what would be done to prevent from my experience from reoccurring and G Adventures doesn't have a Trip Advisor page or similar public review forum, I want to share my experience here to help other travellers. Key issues: -Arrived day 1 to find that arrangements hadn't been made for my room assignment at the hostel. Checked back 3 times, everyone else was already in their room, hostel finally made arrangements for me (in my own room, bonus) and solved the problem themselves as they couldn't track down the CEO. Bottom line--issue was rectified and apologized for by the hostel, not G Adventures. -Initial meeting - no notice was ever posted and no information was provided to the hostel as to the meeting time. Had to hang around and track down members of the tour group to figure out timing of meeting. Expect to be asked to provide your passport number and insurance information all over again. -Hostel for first 2 nights in Berlin was incredibly noisy due to big group of school students. Up 'til 3am both evenings and reviews on the hostel suggest that this is an ongoing issue. Reported to G adventures. their response was that they "vet hostels carefully" and can't control behaviour of other travellers in the hostel. -All of the above issues in combination took away from my ability to enjoy my 2 days in Berlin to the fullest and wasted precious time I could have used to experience the city to the fullest. Other things to consider: There is only 1 group activity for this tour (bike tour) and 2 orientation walks. You will have to plan ahead and organize all of your own optional activities and in my case the CEO did not have any authentically local knowledge or tips beyond what is in a standard guidebook. The bus took double the length of time versus a train and I arrived at each destination twice as tired and worn out as I would have via train travel. According to G Adventures the bus is a better way to experience travel. In both cases our buses were delayed and it took away from the experience. Also note that breakfast may not be included with each hostel and in some cases you may depart too early to take advantage of it. Bottom line, in my case, for less than the price of the tour, I could have had private rooms in hostels or budget hotels in each destination and travelled by train. I also would have known exactly where I was staying from the outset. For that reason and with social media, pinterest and hostel world making it so easy to plan a trip on my own, I would not recommend this or similar tours. read more

Highlights of Alaska. This is a trip created just for city slickers who would only travel with a rolling suitcase...others stay away. By Far it was the biggest money and time waste in my traveling experiences. This is supposed to be Alaska, the wild, but this trip has very little to none of it, unless your idea of an adventure is making your provided "lunch sandwiches" in a parking lot of a supermarket. Accommodations also stunk for such a city slicker trip. Make sure you bring a friend or two who are into hiking and exploring, otherwise keep your fingers crossed that there is someone on the trip to accompany you because even the guide won't do it. But if you have friends, you won't need gadventures or any other company to do this. Guide/driver/optionals booking/restaurant reservation person, who happens to be the same person, is too busy booking flight seeing tours, ziplining, etc for all the members of the group. In conclusion, I won't recommend this trip to anyone other that those who only to travel with a rolling suitcase. read more

Terrible experience they booked my flight with days layover never informed me so had to sleep In the airport due to overcrowding hotels they just have poor attention to detail overall I would call to ask questions about the trip but once I was fully paid up they stopped being responsive they also gave me misinformation on how to pack which really put a damper on my trip said it was a heavy Muslim country where I was going so told me to pack long shorts and long pants T-shirts to cover the shoulders meanwhile the people who I want on the trip with packed properly with bikinis short shorts and a little sundresses I was uncomfortable the whole trip due to misinformation I couldn't believe I paid thousands of dollars for this needless to say I will never ever ever travel G adventures again trip was hell and couldn't wait to get off I wasn't the only one that felt this way as one girl actually left before the trip was even over and used her travelers insurance read more

Love travelling with G Adventures. Great way to meet new people and the tour guides are always incredible!

I booked a trip for 12/12 in Cambodia & Vietnam and it was worse than going solo, which is my usual. The tour guide spent his time drinking or drying out and encouraged culturally insensitive behavior among the tourists. They were loud, obnoxious and embarrassing. The promise that there would be support for my interests did not happen. Those who lived to get drunk were very happy. Anyone interested in history, culture, cuisine and context were left to figure it out alone. My tour guide insisted we take a tuk-tuk (because he used to be a driver) which cost 2x the taxi and 200x the local bus. He would only take us places where he was getting free food and drinks (and bragged about this). He pressured me to buy things where he was getting kickbacks and was offended when I went off on my own to get away from the rest. The hotels selected were good. I wanted information on the very long bus trips in the daytime about what I was seeing out the window but the guide was hung over and sleeping. The guide made us tip the drivers (transportation is included, no?) I heard the same complaints from the tours ahead of and behind mine. It seems this region needs some SERIOUS management improvement. Loved the countries and people when I got out alone. I will never take another trip with this group. read more

I have traveled with G Adventures several times (Inca Trail, Kilimanjaro, month long tour of SE Asia). Overseas, I have had mostly good experiences. My tour guides have always been knowledgeable. I did order a pickup from the airport once and no one picked me up (then I did a charge back on my credit card for the fee and G Adventures, knowing that no one showed up for me, decided to charge me a second time...it took about a month, but I finally got that resolved). I was also charged the full amount for a tour I had canceled more than 60 days in advance, so I shouldn't have been charged anything. That issue was also resolved in time. But my biggest issues with G Adventures have been from a customer service standpoint. I needed to make some changes to my travel plans once and G Adventures was completely unwilling to work with me. They ended up giving me a refund, which according to their policy they didn't have to, but I would have been happier if they had just worked with me to find another trip that would fit my schedule. One star for the snot nosed, immature, unprofessional customer service/reservation people. They were all a bunch of pissed off mouthy young woman who had attitude and took no responsibility for the many screw ups made on Gap's end with my reservation before the trip. To top it off, there was a transaction fee on my USD credit card for Gap's USD charge......they claimed that was my own fault and problem to take up exclusively with my card. OK, fine, the card did charge it but it was in response to Gap's charge, which was in USD. They even said they knew this happened to their customers......but felt no need to warn them of this possibility when the customer used his card to charge the trip. They should tell people to check with their card first---apparently even if charged in USD some cards will charge a 3% fee because Gap routes the charge through its London office. Enough said. Their bottom line was one of indifference and snotty, immature/rudeness on the call. The trip itself was fine and I had a good tour leader but with all the hassles and rude young woman at the Gap office it's not worth it in the future. I'd go with another adventure travel group if I were you----you can try googling "adventure travel" and you will see several come up. Gap basically sucks all the pre-trip joy out of the experience then socks you in the jaw once you come home. Who needs that garbage??!?!? Never again! read more

If I could give g adventures a negative rating I would. I recently got back from a trip to Peru in which one of my friends almost died. During the hike she became very ill and was sent back. The rest of my group repeatedly asked the guide how she was doing since he had a cell phone and was in contact with the people in cusco. We were told by the guide that she was resting and fine, it wasn't till we got back that we learned she had spent four days in the hospital in serious condition!! Apparently all of the guides we're suppose to carry a medical kit with oxygen for the duration of the hike, our guide didn't carry the kit and spent a good amount of time joking about the lack of a proper medical kit! The packing list was a joke at best, we were forced to buy extra supplies when we got there and rent gear that we could have brought from home if we knew we needed it. During the hike our guide would simply leave us in the dust and we wouldn't see him for long periods of time, he just figured we would catch up, I don't think I have to explain how horribly unsafe this is! I will never go on another trip with g adventures and I will recommend that my friends, family, coworkers and anyone I meet never go on a trip with g adventures! The complete and total lack of concern for safety and organization is appalling!! I have tried to contact someone in charge at the home office but they don't seem to really care so I'm forced to put my complaints here, I'll be posting a review on yelp and other review sites and message boards later, in hopes that something gets done before someone gets killed by g adventures' incompetence. read more

I took the tour of Paris to Rome 14 days in July 2015. The tour guide was wonderful no complaints about her. If you are the type of person that believes the accommodations are part of the vacation experience travel with these guys is not for you. First, public transportation was used to go from town to town. So it meant lugging you bags up and down steps in the railroad stations, the first one or two times, not bad but after that it sucked. then you walked from train station to your hotel. Then when you get to your hotel, you may or may not have air conditioning or elevator (90+ degrees). Flat pillows, lopsided beds. The accommodations could be described as dorm room, motel six, just above a hostel. It ruined a part of the trip that was important to me. Call me whatever, spoiled, pamper etc.,, I paid a lot of money and did not see it being spent on my accommodations. The locations that I went to were interesting, but you have two weeks you want to be comfortable, and if just enjoy your accommodations. read more

ZERO STARS. I don't usually write reviews as I just don't have the time, however I feel morally obligated to my fellow human beings to warn your against traveling with G Adventures AT ALL COSTS. Customer service for this company is the worst of not only any travel company but any company I have ever experienced in my life. It is non existent. If something goes wrong, they WILL NOT HELP YOU. This is their standard policy, as we were succinctly informed. We were further rudely advised to take up all complaints with customer service after the trip, that there is nothing they could do for us while we are on it. YOU PUT YOUR LIFE IN DANGER WHEN YOU TRAVEL WITH THIS COMPANY. If there is any problem whatsoever, from a minor inconvenience, to a major annoyance, or, god forbid, a life threatening emergency, you are on your own. And, upon taking the issues up with customer service when we returned home, the response was, "too bad, nothing else we can do." I have traveled with maybe a dozen travel companies over the years, and have never experienced anything like this. I signed up for the "Ultimate India by Rail" tour with G Adventure for 2015. The following is an email sent to G Adventure. which to my knowledge and to date, has not been answered. My reason for the review is to stop bullying and to force G Adventure to deal with unpleasant issues like bullying and not put profits before safety: "When I signed up for the trip I did fill in the medical form and notified you that I had an illness (rheumatoid arthritis). I did agree to share a room and accordingly paid the appropriate amount. At Delhi my first CEO, on seeing there were an odd number of girls, allocated me a single room. He continued this for the whole of the first part of the tour, especially when I collapsed as you have been informed, and was very kind and helpful to me. This didn't go down very well with one or two of the other ladies as they felt I was getting preferential treatment. This continued for the second part of my trip with your CEO who again I have a lot to thank. All your CEO's understood my difficulties regarding walking, looking after my luggage, etc. and helped me to find solutions like using extra Took-Tooks instead of walking, using porters, etc. and where they felt I really couldn't keep up I simply cut out these parts of the trip so that my fellow-companions shouldn't be held up. One particular lady ..... from Tenessee, USA went further than voicing her complaint in two physical attacks. These happened on the third part of the trip (from Cochin to Calcutta). We were asked to share a room together, which we both agreed to, in a small Tamil town. As there wasn't a great deal to do in the town that day I return to the room early. I was watching a Jackie Chan movie on TV which started from 7 pm to 9 pm. ...... entered the room around 8 pm. Without talking to me she went in and took a shower, put on a t-shirt and knickers. She then told me the TV and lights had to go off. It was now 8.30 pm. I requested her that I was watching the film which only had 30 minutes to run and could I see the end. She told me 'no', that I was in her room under sufferance. She tried to take the remote control from my hand, we struggled and she hit me across the back. As she still didn't succeed she went to the TV and pulled out the wires with her bare hands - she is quite a big lady. I told her that I was going to inform our CEO but she wouldn't let me use the phone as she said this was on her side and that I could walk down to him. I did this in my nightie. I informed him what had happened and said that I was sure that by the time we went to the room it would be locked - I was correct. When she heard his voice she opened the door, said that she had seen the movie, it wasn't very good and that it was her room - I could read in the lobby if I didn't want to sleep. I did want to call the police but the CEO said that we would all be held back for at least seven day. The hotel manager kindly agreed to supply me with another room at no charge He said that he could repair the TV so she was lucky she wasn't receiving a bill. The next day the CEO and I telephoned the Manager of G Adventure India and told him what had happened. The next day we went on the train to the Ritz Carlton Hotel. We arrived just after 10 pm. Most of the group had not eaten dinner and on arrival requested the hotel to provide food in the dining room which was adjacent to reception. This they reluctantly agreed. All the group and the CEO were in the dining room except .... and myself. ..... and I were again told we would be required to share - this time I very much reluctantly agreed to the share. ...... walked out of reception, I got out of my seat and headed out of reception, she then returned, blocked my path, brought her two palms forward and pushed me backwards quite hard. I did trip back but managed to not fall on anything which was extremely lucky as any broken bones in my condition could have been extremely serious. I said to the gentleman behind the reception desk 'did you see that'. I then waited to tell the CEO that I refused to share with her under these conditions. The CEO then came out of the dining room and surprised me by giving me his room key without me saying anything. When I asked why he just replied 'Please go to my room tonight and I will talk to you in the morning'. I was informed the next morning that the gentleman behind the reception desk had told him of the unprovoked attack and that it was recorded on CCTV which he later viewed. He told the group and .... that G Adventure were not going to tolerate any more of this behavior and if it continued they would call the police. He did apologise to me that he hadn't taken it more seriously at first. I believe she has another G Adventure holiday booked for February. My reason for emailing is to ask you to blacklist her from any future G Adventure holidays. I have never received an apology from her. Please confirm what action you intend to take. read more
