G&E had the best reviews on all the sites. They were able to diagnose the problem without adding 10 more things to beef up the price. They ordered the part in same day and had me up and running the following afternoon. They gave me a ride to a local hotel and let me park my rv in the back of their place overnight. I believe it's a small family business who's been around for quite a long time. Very professional, very friendly, and gave me a fair price. Went in for a road force tire balance and alignment. Fast, friendly and reasonably priced service. Kevin really understands the science behind road force balancing and answered any questions I had. My alignment was off and due to an aftermarket lift had to be manually adjusted. Kevin satisfactorily explained what he did to compensate. Would definetly do business again. read more

Showed up when they opened for an alignment and Kevin dove right in. Within about 30 minutes, we had preliminary readings clearly showing how the other shop in downtown Bastrop AND the Bastrop GM dealer pencil whipped the form and kicked it out the door. A single caster and toe adjustment and he let me test drive before paying. Everything under the front end was new MOOG, Red Head gear, and Michelins all the way around. I've been going here pass 20 plus years. Mr G was a honest! Straight to the point. He honored repairs! He helped the locals. Unfortunately not anymore. I had water pump, radiator and thermostat replaced. I parked it and bought a newer truck. Ford F150 started overheating. Estimate was another Radiator, out of warranty. How does that happen? I have tried the other auto repairs in Lockhart, and this is by far the best of them. Johnny and Sons could not diagnose the overheating problem on my 1995 convertible, and G & E Auto Repair could. In my opinion, Johnny & Sons took way too long to repair, yet did come through on the repairs, just not the overheating. Another shop on Bufkin Lane is horrible at returning calls for days if not weeks, so I gave up and called G & E. I believe that Kevin and Theresa care about and being fair. I think that the communication process was very good. They even did a repair that was not customary for the underside of the car. They came through for me, when others have not. G & E Auto Repair has been in business for 4 decades, and they will be in business for another 4 decades. There are so many reasons to get your domestic car repaired at G & E. read more

Go anywhere but here! I spent over $2000 in work on my 80s pickup. My truck spent over 6 weeks at their shop while they replaced part after part. Once I picked it up, they insured me it should be in good shape from there on out. I asked them to do an oil change while they had it and 1200 miles after the oil change and $2000+ in new parts and labor to G&E, I threw a rod. When I took it back in, they said they would look at it that week. At the end of the week, when I called to check if their diagnosis was as bad as I thought, Tony Jr said I "wasn't their only customer" and to be patient. He eventually let me know the truck needed a whole new engine. They offered a tiny discount but were truly unapologetic and disrespectful. I think they're cutting corners in some way when doing oil changes or they just didn't properly diagnose the truck to begin with. Waste of time and money at G&E. read more

While traveling through Central Texas on business my alternator went out on my 2020 Expedition. I found the only replacement alternator in Central Texas, in Austin. Got it to G&E and they got to work. Their hospitality, service and people are second to none. I can honestly say that if I ever break down again, I hope it's close to Lockhart. read more

I hate cars. Loathe them. They are greasy, smelly beasts that break down at the worst of times. I am a mechanic's dream because I know nothing about cars so they can tell me ANYTHING. I'll just sob and haul out my checkbook. When I first moved to the Austin area, I panicked the first time my 99 vehicle pulled a "no go" on me. I was stuck. Immediately I called a friend who told me to calm down. They came out to get me and told me I needed to have my car towed to G&E. So I did. I've had to take my car in (or have it towed in) more than once. Every time, Guy has treated me with respect and the right amount of Texas-flavored chivalry. He and his employees are amazing. When Guy tells me the bottom line, I know that is the bottom line. Period. It won't be a penny over what he quotes. He doesn't "find" extra things to fix. In fact, he's told me that fixing one thing would be expensive and could be ignored (back door not opening). I will go to G&E as long as they are there. Top-notch mechanics are so hard to find. I trust G&E to get me back on the road without making me contemplate robbing a bank. So, if your car needs a helping hand, considering trekking out to Lockhart. Travels go somewhere else. So this review was long in the making. My truck had broken down off highway 183 about 2 years ago. I wanted it to go here because I saw amazing reviews and the guy who quoted me quoted a decent price of something shy of $485. I called multiple times to confirm this. When all was said and done I wound up paying double that. Since I had no other options, what was I supposed to do? But hey, I drove the truck for another 30,000 miles and didn't have any issues which is the only reason I don't give them 1 star. read more

Very disappointed. Took in a vehicle early on a Friday morning for a one-day service. They tore into it and then set it aside in disarray. Supposedly needed a part. Picked it up for fear of leaving it parked outside for the weekend. Took it back on Tuesday as instructed (again for a one day service). They never even looked at it that day. They agreed to put it inside so left it overnight. Went the next afternoon late to pick it up and it had not yet been looked at. They said it would not take long so come back in two hours. Two hours later they said come get it we can't fix it. Really? Don't take work you cannot perform. Don't make promises you cannot keep. And don't lie. Vehicle is now at another shop who suggested that we go back to this shop and ask that they reimburse us for the damage they did when they tore it apart. Buyer beware...... read more

I needed a mechanic so I googled and read reviews, G&E stood out. Everything that was in the reviews was so true. Guy senior, the owner is a great guy, very helpful and very honest. I was hearing a noise in the engine but when he drove it, the car did not make that noise so he said to me: "I don't hear anything, the car runs great, come back when you hear that noise again and he added jokingly, that he wasn't going to take my money that day". Who those that? Only an honest person would! Later the noise started being noticeable and I took it to him again, he figured out the problem. He quoted me the third of what another mechanic quoted me, he even charged me less than what he quoted after he was done fixing it. I didn't ask him to and he didn't have to lower the price. My dad happened to find these guys when he broke down, and the person whose house he happened to be in front of was driving out the gate, saying they had just come back from spending $1500 at G&E and were going back to spend more. Well, a garage that take $1500 for an almost F-150! And then you have to go back for more! Decided to try them and won't go anywhere else! They'd rather send you home with a problem and tell you to watch something than fix what it might be and then your money is wasted on something that might not even have been broke, and the original problem is still there. Another time we had a compressor fail, and took it to them. They quoted $800, parts and labor. I think the labor was something like $200. They spent TWO AND HALF DAYS on that job because they forgot about a known GM defect. Total after the work was done? $800. Job? Profit lost. Reputation gained. read more
