I had always been curious about this place, so last night we decided to check it out. It's definitely a large space, with a bar in the front and around 10-11 pool tables in the back, giving it a old-school vibe. Pool costs $22 per hour. My friend ordered an Old Fashioned for $20 and unfortunately wasn't a fan, so I'd probably recommend sticking with beer instead. Our waitress was really friendly and checked on us several times throughout the night. This used to be a regular spot for my coworkers and I after work, but the past several times we have come here we have been met with hostility from the staff. Unfortunately, I visited this establishment over the weekend for a birthday celebration. We had a mixed race group of people and only a few of us wanted to play while the others wanted a bite to eat. The older bozo at the door profiled us and said there was no tables available for us.. we literally saw open tables in the back with no one around. You should know what your drink should taste like, the fact that I return two full drinks and other members in our party return a few full drinks something is wrong. However, there's something funky happening at the bar. Not only did we wait 10-15 minutes for someone to approach our table for a drink order. We ordered cheese sticks and wings to coat our stomachs. Great food. Wings are great and cheese sticks are homemade , however after drinking (2)Wrigley Sidecars, (3) shots of congac and I am still sober enough to write this review. On several occasions, my friends and I have spent several hours at G-Cue without burning a hole in our wallets. The interiors are spacious with plenty of pool tables and flat screens. We do not always make reservations but we have always arrived to find at least one pool table available. They charge by the hour and cue sticks. If you have several friends splitting the cost of one table and four sticks, the monetary damage is extremely minimal. Not a pool shark? No problem, they have dart boards to test your aiming skills and arcade games to keep your wheels turning. Not a drinker? They have an extended menu of selections to keep your jaws and belly preoccupied. To top that, they are also speak-easy and convenient for street parking. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. We walked into this establishment on a Saturday night wanting a few beers and some time at a pool table. We were fine paying the out outrageously expensive fees that it required to play pool. When we were getting ready to leave (30 minutes later MAX), we were accused of stealing a cue ball. First of all.. what would I want a cue ball for? Second of all.. where in the world would I put said cue ball? They asked to check our purses and then called the police. The police told us that they do this all the time and to just pay our tabs and leave. One of the five of us got his tab and it was $83! On his tab was a bucket of beer, 3 coors lights, and three 'premium' shots. This was very strange because we do not drink coors and did not order premium shots. In the sea of high end and upscale places G-Cue is a great place to unwind. The beer selection is fairly limited and didn't contain anything I'd normally drink outside of a few Lagunitas. I didn't try the food nor any of the mixed drinks. The pool tables (which let's face it are the reason you're there) are well maintained. The cost isn't cheap (I believe 18 per hour + 2 per pool cue rental) but the reality is that keeping that much square footage in such a hot market isn't cheap. There is a jukebox playing music and last night whomever was loading it up was playing all my favorites. Upon first glance, you immediately notice how dated the place is; it's completely antiquated, which is surprising given that they're just off the Randolph street strip. It didn't help that at midnight on a Saturday, people were few and far between, including a handful of cops, a few middle aged people at the bar, and one older couple playing pool. I hadn't even heard of this bar before spotting it while sitting in a cafe across the street with friends. We decided to stop in for a drink right before heading to a concert a block away. Let me tell you, I'm glad we decided to pop in. My drink was awesome and the bar tender was super nice. I ordered a cocktail named "the loop" and it did looped me! Lol. I am so glad to have a decent billiard place in the West Loop instead of having to go all the way over to River East. The place is clean, the service is fast and friendly, and the crowd is pretty chill. My husband and I came here on a rainy Saturday after dinner and played several rounds of pool, and also had several rounds of drinks (which adds up so be careful!). We got a nice spot semi close to the bar, along with couch seating and a nice size table to put our drinks. There were 5 of us to start with 3 more that trickled in. Service was great. Other than that, I really hope this business survives if anything happens to to the owner, His daughter is the epitome of unprofessional! Waving your hands screaming over something that was clearly her fault in booking and yelling at paying customers WHAT YOU WON'T do is piss poor! When a patron calls and ask you detailed questions, you need to answers them or find someone capable of booking events, SO THAT WHEN YOU SO CALLED CLOSE DOWN YOUR "BAR" for a private party issues don't occur. Ended up here around 10PM on a Saturday. It was not super packed at all by this time yet. We got a pool table easily - super pricey for a table. $18 an hour and then $1 a person for a cue. Basically $20/hr. Location was convenient for what we were doing that night, but probably won't go back for pool since it's a steep price. Just wanted to do something engaging to wrap up the evening and this was nearby. Bottled craft beers were a little pricey too. This place seemed to be a great break from the bar hopping we did in the area Friday night and was excited to come here and do something besides drink and eat (I'm not even big into pool). We were greeted and we put our name on a list for the pool tables. The lady couldn't give us a wait time as it depends on the people playing but told us we were second on the list. No problem, as we sat down and got some drinks. We were told of a few beer bucket specials. Standard bar offerings so amongst our small group, we got a ginger ale, Modelo Negra and a Stella. It was nice to see that the ginger ale was a nicer kind in a bottle instead of the expected fountain or Canada Dry type. As others noted, an ID and card had to be put down first. While odd, it wasn't a big deal. Anyways, we waited and waited, and it seemed like we were forgotten. Many people came in after us who definitely looked like buddies with the staff or regulars and were serviced much better. A lot of these people disappeared into the pool area. We then decided it wasn't worth waiting any longer, as we weren't sure if our #2 spot even meant anything. We were there for about an hour. We flagged down a staff member for the check and he promptly gives it to us, but does not mention anything about the card and ID on file. He didn't say anything actually, so we had to flag him down again and he sharply says he just wanted us to look at the total before charging it, which is fair, but some of these words beforehand would have been nice. Overall, this place seems to be decent if you're a regular and are already on good terms with the staff. Would have liked to play some pool but...yeah...didn't get the opportunity to do so. My friends and I stopped in here only because it was empty, so we knew we'd have a good time with just us. We just came from a crowded bar, so we were wanting a chill place. A few of the girls went straight to the juke box to pick out songs and really make this OUR party. They paid for their song selection, then waited. One song came up right away... which we line danced to. (Yes, we did that. No, we have no shame. We even got applause at the end. Oh yeah!) An interesting experience here recently to say the least! Me and some buddies decided to come here as it decided to pour down raining @ Taste of Randolph and we wanted hang somewhere to keep dry. One of my buddies loves this place as they have a nice amount of pool tables and is a cool environment. We came in and grabbed a high top and was greeted by a nice waitress. I wasn't hungry but they were so the ordered a nacho plater which was huge and enough for 4 people to feast on. Once we were ready to go, we were hoping our waitress would come and grab our bill, but that didn't happen. We kept trying to get her attention and it did not work, nor did she come by and see if we were ready to go. We wound up having to flag down another girl to help us out only to find out that we were supposed to go up to the front to pay. How in the hell would we know that if no one tells us? We sat there for 30 mins waiting to go and no one said a thing. Once we went up front my buddy had issues getting them to take his card for processing which caused him to get quite angry as we had already wasted 30 minutes. The girl behind the counter wasn't apologetic or anything...all she could say is "its not my fault" and "don't yell @ me!" He was obviously upset about the poor service and then waiting round again...she could have been more understanding which would have calmed him down. Just when we thought things couldn't get worse, we stood in the doorway as we were waiting on our other buddy to come around with his car as it was pouring down raining. Some guy who seemed to be the manager felt the need to tell us to go have a drink or get out which set my buddy over the edge due to the previous issues I mentioned. We were the only people he told to leave while others were waiting in the door area as well. He said he thought we just ran in to avoid the rain and we told him we had been there for an hour or so and we were waiting for a ride. This is an average bar with average food. What sets it (somewhat) apart, is the pool tables which are cool. However.... They're $18/hr + $2/cue, so you end up paying $20 for it. Add the $11 (average cost) for a burger + a drink and it ends up being a steep price. I had the pork chop burger. The meat was ok, but the burger itself was mediocre. Tomatoes were soggy (not sure if this is the best way to describe it, but I mean to compare against crisp, fresh tomatoes). When they brought over my burger, they had thrown in a few pieces of cheese on top of the meat...half nearly melted, half cold. It actually looked weird. I asked them to melt it for me, which, thankfully, they did. All in all it's an ok place, but I don't think what you get is worth what you pay. read more

Artichoke and Spinach Dip: AMAZING. The chips were really crunchy and flaky (could that be an adj for chips?) The dip was good too but it was more cheesy than spinachy (yes, that's an adj). 3. Crabby Cake: One huge crab cake. The first few bites were good but after awhile, it was too much. Portion size should have been smaller. Overall, everything was good. Except there were so little people that I felt the atmosphere lacking (hence minus one star). Hardly anyone ate there except for us. Hipster pool joint with decent tables. I got here around 8 pm on a Saturday night and had no problem finding parking right outside. The staff was quick to set us up with a table and our first round of drinks but was then rather inattentive, even though there were only about 5 or 6 tables of customers. The staff actually did a better job when the place started filling up after 10 pm. The house cues are so-so... bring your own or do your best to try and select one reasonably straight with a full (centered) tip. The tables are in very nice condition: level, good felt and responsive bumpers. As previously mentioned, drinks are overpriced. I stuck to beer and only had two. Didn't eat, but the menu also seemed expensive for what you were getting. And hipsterish? Definitely - leather booths, fireplace, exposed brick, flat screen TVs... I don't say that as a positive or a negative. That's the vibe they're going for and they do a good job getting there. So if you don't mind spending a little more to shoot pool among the beautiful people, G-Cue might be right for you. For an ugly mug like me... 3 stars. read more

FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY!!!!!!! I come to G-Cue often with my co-workers but Monday night I decided to take my family. Upon our arrival, the waitress requested a card to keep on file and I was totally fine with that. We managed to rack up a bill for $450. I notified the waitress that I was going to pay with cash and she told me that was fine. She gave me my card and ID without notifying me that she had already charged it. She allowed me to pay her cash, along with a hefty tip. Once she received the cash payment she used the term "GOT EM" The next day I noticed a $500 charge from G-Cue and I was so livid. They charged me twice. I gave them call but Penelope said that the department that handles card processing was closed. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS AND CARD TRANSACTIONS. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. The reviews from 2014 and 2015 about poor service are still accurate in 2017! Mainly driven by the manager/"owners daughter" (long brown semi-curly hair). Being in the service industry throughout college, my friends and I are always respectful tippers....and we even gave our waitress the benefit of the doubt and tipped her pretty well after it took a whole round of pool to get drinks && she was rude to us all night. The sinker was that after we got done playing pool, I went to the bar to close out my pool tab (they take your card and ID), and our waitress told us she would take care of getting it closed. She kept coming over and asking 'do you want to close it'....yes, this is the 4th time we've told you that! 20 minutes later it finally happened. More of an annoyance than anything. After that, we decided to get another round of drinks. My friend went up to open an NEW tab and order 3 beers, and we waited....and waited....and waited. I finally went to the bar to ask what the wait was. The bartenders were ABSOLUTELY trying to take advantage of us, and thinking we were drunk, and they told us that they didn't bring us beer because they were told the tab opened was to pay for previous drinks. This round was 3 blue moons, which we hadn't ordered before in the night, so we couldn't be paying for previously ordered beer. We asked for the card back, and they closed us out paying for the beer that we never got!! After that was all figured out, and the workers were BLATANTLY talking about us amongst themselves AND with other customers, the (what we assumed to be) the owners daughter came over and lectured us about how "this is a family owned company and you were treating my staff disrespectfully". She brought us peace offering shots, but then sat down AT OUR TABLE to continue to lecture us! Lecturing us...the customers/patrons who keep you in business! Who does that? Extremely unprofessional! Even if in your mind the customer is wrong, you never tell them that - nor do you sit down at a table that you're obviously not welcomed at and continue to harass us. Sure fire way to lose business. Also, be sure to keep/check your receipts, this is a shady business that puts random charges on your tab because they think you're drunk and will pay for them. I wouldn't put it past them to fudge the tip amount...but I will edit this post when my final CC statement comes through!
