I'd love to give this place five stars. I'm giving it four because Penelope (the head waitress) is the shit as well as the food and the price point. When we came in here for a late lunch this place was right on time, service was great, food was excellent. I'm here now on a Saturday night and the service is sub-par. I'm not sure why all the waitresses have on high heels, but this may be a reason why service isn't as stellar as yesterday. This really isn't the place that calls for heels, but I'm not sure if it's part of their dress code or if they all just like wearing them? Anywho, hopefully the food is still on point. Went here on a Sunday night with my man and we were both pleasantly surprised. We wanted to find somewhere to play pool that had a decent amount of tables, food and drinks. A lot of other yelpers complained about the prices but I think it's comparable to most places in the loop vacinity. Our total bill was about 50ish bucks for 2 or 3 stellas, a Strongbow cider, 2 sandwiches, and about two hours of pool playing. I was impressed with the menu everything from salads to burgers to steak to desserts. Our server was friendly and attentive and probably bored because there weren't many people in there, she changed the channel for us upon request (they have numerous flat screens up on the walls). This isn't a dirty pool-shark type pool hall. It is clean and upscale with a ton of nice professional tables. This would be a great place for a girl or guys night out because it is very roomy. Went here on Saturday, it was a nice surprise and retreat from the pouring rain. The rain actually worked to our benefit, it was stop along our bachelorette party trail. No one was really there and we got special treatment....the waitress was there before we even called her....which is rare most places and I suspect on any given dry day outside I would be writing a different kind of review, lol. G Cue is a nice modern looking place with lots of tables and an ample drink/food selection. I don't know any other place walking distance from the loop to play pool. But theres a way to do it - For one, if you are there around happy hour - nobody will be there. That could be a good thing, but if the wait staff comes by looking bored, inserting into your conversations constantly with "Sorry to interrupt", you might feel a bit like squirming out of your skin ! So have a large group to fend them off- you definitely don't want to get into a situation like my coworker where she's telling you how to play the next shot, hold the stick, etc !! It was well meant of course, but (sigh) :) Walking up from Randolph to Morgan past dumpsters, and the neon lights weren't on - it looked like it was not open - which added to the adventure The pool was only $14/hr/table on Thursday at 6pm, and with a second hour free. Call for rates when you are going. The drinks were solid and well made - but here's the rub.. They're f-ing expensive ! For one hour of pool and 5 drinks total - the bill was $86 ! The tall-glass cocktails are priced at $15, including the '$7 extra shot'. I was not happy after 2 drinks and $7 worth of pool, that my half of the bill was $43 + tip !! So I suggest treating this as a 2nd place of the night - which might explain why it was so empty. But the tables are nice enough, and it *can* be done in a better way than I did, so I imagine I'll be back. read more

If I could give this establishment zero stars that's what they deserve. The service is absolutely horrible and the I've caught the bartenders several times trying to pad the bill. And when confronted about it threatened to call the police. I came there and ordered a Paloma and was not satisfied with how the drink was made. I took one sip and immediately let the waitress know I was dissatisfied. She informed me she would talk to the bartender to see what could be done. The solution was for her to add another shot to my drink with light even asking me if I wanted to do that then charging me 8 more dollars for the added shot even though I did not ask for that. I then went up to the car myself to make a complaint about them adding a whole extra shot with out my okay then charging me for it. Another bartender ended up tossing the drink out then giving me 2 beers instead which are $6 each. The Paloma was originally $16 plus $8 for the extra shot. I never even tasted the drink when the extra shot was put in there! But they still charged me for the drink and extra shot. Although they did not charge me for the beers it still was a whole $12 Difference I was charged for when I went to the bartender to explain this she was extremely rude and dismissive and quite frankly she seemed prejudice. She threatened to call the police several times when I was just trying to explain that I was over charged. In the climate of the world we live in today I found it extremely degrading and disheartening that I as a black woman was threatened to have the police called on me for something so minuscule. this is a really great pool hall.. they've got over 20 tables, as well as arcade games and tv's which always have sports on.. it doesn't look like much from outside but its actually super nice inside, they've got a fireplace and really comfy couches! Their food is awesome too, great salads and mozarella sticks.. its about $7 a person to shoot pool which is a little pricey but this is the type of place you can make a night out of so it ends up being a good deal read more

I've been a couple of times and I think this is a great spot to hang out and shoot pool. It serves it's purpose. Last night, I went with some friends. First we had appetizers (the cheese fries were delicious!) then we left the table to shoot some pool. I really like our spacious it is. You don't ever feel like you're on top of the people playing next to you. Everything feels new and is super clean. The place as a nice upscale look to it which I personally like. Flat screen TVs everywhere and it's never smoky which is really nice. The service was pretty good. Several servers kept coming to check on us. I will say that the place is a bit more expensive but I would rather go here than to some scary, smoky, pool hall any day! read more

I've been to G-Cue about a dozen times now, and it's now #1 in my book. PLEASE try the bruschetta. That's the reason I'm writing a review now. It's different from the standard tomato - roasted red bell peppers and heaven knows what, but tasty, Tasty, TASTEY! I'll agree with a couple of the other Yelpers. 1. If you're going, bring your own bucks for the music 'cause you will hear somebody else's version of "good music," and I gotta say. . .to each their own. I'd rather listen to what I like and let the others "deal with it," as I dealt with more vulgarity (and I'm not prudish) from the hip-hop/rap or whatever it was than I cared to. But, I'm the one who will drop $10-$12 bucks in the music machine to hear what I like. The crowd "changed" (hence, the music changed) the later it got. Depends on what you're comfortable with. I always play on the same table (#11) as many times as I've been. And 2. Yes, the cues definitely suck. Bring your own or maybe ask your server if you can pick out one yourself. That's definitely not in your favor if you're trying to learn the game. Those cues won't help you one bit. I'm not a sophisticated beer drinker, but 312 and Blue Moon are on the menu, and that's what I like. Servers are attentive, and because it's family-owned, I cut 'em some slack for my 30 minute wait for my bruschetta. There was a huge private party. Prices? I say it's a great date night or get-acquainted-with-someone-new first-date place. Based on its location, I think the prices are about right - not expensive (pricey), not inexpensive (cheap). It's tough to find an after-hours spot in the area to just hang, and G-Cue fulfills the requirements to the degree that we can play games while having a beer. The food and the selection are solid but the pool is much more expensive than other spots and they are not at all service industry friendly, no love whatsoever. This place is a rip off. They charge you $18 an hour, minimum, charge you to use their cue, and they fail to tell you up front the minimum is one hour or that they charge you for a cue up. This is the WORST bar I have ever been too. They called the cops on my friends because they thought we stoll a pool ball.. they then forced me to let them check my purse because they thought I had put it in there. There were no cameras in the entire bar so this was all just an accusation based on nothing. They were the rudest employeees I've ever had to deal with. Even the cops said it was ridiculous. This little tucked-away bar is an unsung hero in the west loop. It's a no frills bar with a decent, albeit limited beer selection. Huge space, so even when it's crowded after work, you don't feel like you're bumping into people. They have a vast area of pool tables, which is nice. Not only were the waitresses not observant enough to know when we needed refills or napkins but the bartender (who claimed to be the owner) was what made my experience horrific. This was my second time around G-Cue and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Everything started off cool, my boys and I were at Taste of Randolph when it started raining so we ducked into G-Cue to avoid the inclement weather. We got a table ordered food and drinks and hung out for a while. G-Cue has, for whatever reason, a policy that they take your credit card and ID when you sit down even if you aren't playing pool. I don't get it but no problem. I gave both to our waitress and, as I said, ordered food and drinks and hung out for maybe an hour and a half. We had probably three rounds of beers and a round of shots, our waitress was friendly we were bantery and all was good. At some point our waitress stopped coming to our table. She was working her other tables but, it seemed, actively ignoring us. For 20 minutes we tried to get her attention while she brought food and drinks to every table but ours. We finally get the attention of a different waitress and ask her for our check. She tells our original waitress who brings over a receipt, not a check, not my card, not my ID and she immediately turned to leave. I ask her where my card is and she snapped at me that I pay at the bar. How am I supposed to know that? I didn't realize they run their restaurant like a Denny's. So, I walk over to the bar, my friends are laughing because I'm visibly frustrated and when I get to the bar they ignore me too. Now, I'm a pretty big guy and I go out a lot. I'm not accustomed to being ignored or to getting such shoddy service. So, I was less than cordial to the bar tender when she finally made her way to me. I said something along the lines of "I'm just trying to pay my fucking tab so I can get out of here" and she flipped her shit. "Don't fucking curse at me" "I'll come around this bar and kick your ass". I apologized, said I was frustrated with the service and simply wanted to get my cards back and pay. She ran my card, continued to talk shit and I paid and turned to go. Unfortunately it was still raining. One of my friends offered to go get the car if I'd lend him my umbrella. Done. Now we're waiting in the bar area behind a couple waiting on their Uber. Their car comes they leave so we step up into the space they were standing and two seconds later some guy comes up and starts yelling at us " in or out, you can't stand here". I asked him why I was getting treated like assholes here. we come in, spend money and get treated like assholes and I couldn't understand why. in the meantime another couple is now standing where we had been without a peep from this guy. The food is plentiful and very good for the price, try the Beef Fiesta wrap or the pork chop sandwich. The interior has a loungey vibe. Large bar, plenty of tvs and pool tables. There's rarely many other people there for weekday lunches. Now to the meat of the review... The best part of this place BY FAR is the completely insane waitress. Now, let me clarify this point because some people are bound to disagree. If you are turned off by any of the following - Being shown unsolicited pornography on a mobile phone - Getting awkwardly hit on (as a man) - Getting cutlery routinely dropped on you (and getting free pool games as atonement) Then you will want to avoid this place. Wait staff was friendly enough but had some trouble keeping tables straight, they gave us the wrong bill (and there were only 4 tables being used). More reminiscent of a dysfunctional family than a professional staff. For the hourly fee you get just the table, they don't even collect the balls and sticks from you when you're done. Beers were $5 up, decor was bizarre (chandeliers next to multicolor light bulbs, lavender walls, old carpet, and Van Gogh prints). It was a Monday afternoon (3:30), and I wasn't expecting a lot, just a beer a place to rest my legs after a long day of being up since 3AM for work.
