My son brought his car in as smog was required to register his car. His car did not pass smog. There was an issue with a sensor. So we had to go to the DMV site and find an approved smog repair shop. Neither of our regular mechanics are listed on the DMV approval site. That is frustrating. If we had the vehicle repaired at a non-approved site, and the vehicle failed to pass smog, we would not get credit for the money spent. So we brought it to Sierra Foster's. Upon diagnosis, they told us that GK disconnected a wire for the inspection. All they did was hook the wire up and the car passed smog. We had to pay $127 for the diagnostic, and another $20 for the smog. It was a costly process that should not of had to happen. read more

I have been coming to this gem since I can remember. Sometimes there's a line, but it will move quickly. If you go to their website there is a coupon for a better deal. Or mention it and they have always honored it. Recently I went to smog my 2021 car and was told I don't have to til next year because something passed for the newer cars. He could have done the smog, charged me and I would never would have been the wiser. Hands down the easiest, most reasonable, honest, and best smog station in Reno or Sparks. Friendly and fast service. On the way to DMV if you wait that long. In the center of town if you are driving by. The smog certificate is linked directly to DMV and the have the results of your car passing instantly. You can also pay your registration right there at GK smog and save the trip to DMV. Last year I took our 3 moving van sized box trucks to a different smog station. I won't name, but if you look back in my reviews you might see them. The up charge for "Heavy Duty" made the smog check around $50.00 even though the difference is that they put the stinger in the exhaust pipe and have to rev the engine during the test. I hope they did not strain themselves. I am sure you are paying for their gleaming clean waiting room since they take more than half an hour to do a smog test. At GK there is no waiting room since the test is done in minutes and you are on your way. it was $16.00 just like any test. We had all three trucks done for less than one last year. read more

This was the fastest smog check I have ever had. I called ahead for an appointment, they politely said their policy is first come first serve. It happens that when I drove down to get my Tundra tested, the last of two bays pulled out and the technician directed me to drive to the front bay. He quickly hooked up the diagnostic cable and started the engine after getting his scan from the door panel. Before I knew it he handed me the pass sheet and I tendered payment. Doing a older truck the guy was going over the rpm the test required. I kept checking my rpm gage and his computer. On 2,000 rpm test he had it at 3,500 rpm. I had to ask him why he was going over the rpm amount on his computer. He shrugged. I've had my newer cars smog test done here not a problem but if it's a older OBD1 vehicle go elsewhere. I think the guy had ill intentions over revving the truck. It's not a dino it's a smog test. No reason to pin the gas pedal all the way to the floor. I could read the test on screen while it was happening and he was going outside the test specification. Lucky he didn't blow my motor he was on his way to and I started asking why he was going beyond what the test required. Go else where anywhere but G K smog. read more
