I don't like having to wait to get my hair done so I called somewhere else. The first thing I liked about the place is how secure it is. You can't just walk into the building. You have to use the intercom outside and they will buzz you in. It's nice because there are no riff-raff hanging around outside, loitering around the cars or panhandling. It seems as if most of the offices in the building are hair style or makeup shops. Their prices are extremely reasonable. So reasonable that I had come up with a figure that I would pay. When the lady told me her price, I was floored! It was a lot less than what I anticipated. I decided that I would pay them what I had planned, with the extra being a tip. The lady who did my hair did an absolutely lovely job. She was so friendly. She seemed to understand when I didn't want to talk anymore (I was doing some work on my phone), otherwise she was telling me about her life and asking about me. She was very down to earth and put me at ease and made me comfortable. She is from Malawi in Africa and she told me about her life there. It sounds like a remarkable place and I'd love to visit. My hair is difficult to do and make look nice because it is super thin. This didn't seem to be an issue for her though. She gave me a recommendation on a product to use to make it thicker and I ordered some while I was in her office. I can't wait to try it out. My hair is beautiful and I hope when it needs to be done that they are still there because I'm definitely calling them.

I was sick of spending time straightening and styling my hair and not ever liking the results, so for my birthday my dad offered to let me get my hair straightened professionally. I was so shocked and happy and immediately started researching a place to get my hair a Japanese straightening and came across Amys Website. I called Amy that day and asked when the next available time was for a Japanese straightening was, and she had an opening that weekend and booked me! Amy was super nice and had snacks, magazines, and tv to keep me busy as she worked on my hair. I'm not going to lie and say it didn't take a long time, for hair as curly as mine it look about 5 hours!! But I am more than happy with the results. My hair is perfectly straight and super easy to style! I was worried getting my hair chemically treated since it is thin. I thought it would burn off. But from what I can tell there was no damage whatsover and my hair feels and looks as healthy as ever. It has been 2 months and my hair is still perfectly straight. Although, it has grown a tiny bit at the roots, but I won't need a retouch for another 4 months or more most likely. I will definitely return! Yes her salon is out of a DADU in the back of her property, but she is working with years of expertise which is evident in the quality of her work, and the space was clean and professional. I Cannot recommend Amy highly enough!! I had been on the fence about getting Japanese hair straightening for about a year because my naturally curly hair was so frizzy and hard to manage. I spent years trying the Curly Girl Method and was fed up with the constant battle of products and styling. I had tried a keratin treatment before, which smoothed it a bit but didn't help with actually tackling the curls. So, I decided to take the plunge! Amy walked me through each step and did a strand test on my hair to confirm whether it could handle the treatment, along with explaining possible side effects. My keratin treatment from almost a year prior was obvious in the strand test -- crazy to see the damaged vs. virgin hair! She explained I was still a good candidate but might see some dryness toward the ends since it was already damaged, which I was fine with. We were able to do the full treatment the next day, and it was a very pleasant experience -- you can really tell Amy knows her stuff! I got to relax for a few hours and watch TV, and then it was done. Amy recommended some conditioning products, which I bought, and then I had to wait three days before washing or doing anything that could bend the hair. Here are my before and after photos! The "after" is after I waited the three days, washed, and blow-dried with nothing but my fingers and maybe 15 minutes of time. Then on vacation I didn't have my regular blow dryer and let it mostly air dry to see how it would feel -- still soft and shiny! I am stunned by the result! My hair feels so soft, smooth, and manageable now. If you are looking to embrace full-time straight hair, Amy is truly the best for the Japanese straightening procedure -- she has lots of experience and completely transformed my hair!!

Upon getting there, she had two other clients and couldn't fit me in that day. Now I am scrambling to find someone to do my hair at the last minute. Very unprofessional I would rather drive all the way to a Braider in Kent or Tacoma who knows how to do basic scheduling. I do not recommend wasting your time here. If you would like to waste 2 hours on a haircut that should have been completed in 45 minutes, all while listening to far too personal baby daddy stories shared by your nice, but unskilled, stylist, then this is the salon for you! What was that? Should I have said something? Well, I did. That's when the less than 100% fabulous customer service kicked in. I sent photos and messages documenting the haircut. I asked for a refund. After all, that was $90 for the haircut that looks like the craft scissor haircut my friend's daughter gave herself when she was 5. They want to "fix" it. There's barely any hair left to "fix" and also, no. You have lost my trust. Just refund the money. Here's my story: I chose one of my reference images (the one with green highlights) directly from their website based on cut and type of color, highlights with a fashion color. What could possibly go wrong? There is a person there who literally can cut the cut I want the picture proved it, right? The scheduler said she knew exactly who to book me with, but let's do a color consultation first for $60. I countered with, let's schedule the cut and the stylist, and I can discuss color then. At my appointment, I showed the stylist a carefully curated set of images, cut images, and the cut I wanted in pics of me when I had that cut. This is important because, I should back up and say I was asking for a pixie cut. I explained that I wanted my already short hair to be styled into a long banged, messy pixie with wispy tendrils by my ears. This would require trimming bangs, texturizing the longer "bob" sides and back. An hour in, I knew far too much about her personal life, and half my hair was clippered and way too short. Then she said, " Hey, maybe we should leave the other side as it is (when I came in)". Um, what? I asked to see the back. It had been clippered and the long hair on top laid on it like a rug. Zero texture. Um... the back of my head looks like a triangle? Can you please fix it? She did, kinda. Now, it's at mile marker two hours, and I am late. She was still not done. I told her I had to go and that I would have to settle for what I have. I left, put my hat on, and cried. But that was after I was also charged a service fee to tip. Next comes the customer service: After work, I took my hat off to discover that you could see my scalp in places. I have virtually no bangs, and it is waaaaay worse than I thought. I immediately emailed with pics. Their response, thanks for the feedback. I called and asked someone from their leadership to call me back. Nope, no call. Fast forward to the next day and several emails later, and the owner said you can either come in (next week) or "this matter is closed". Charming. I've had pixie cuts for 20 years. This was not a texture things or even a miscommunication. It was a failure of the scheduler, the stylist, and ultimately the owner. That stylist needs to be trained better and should have never been given me as a client. And the owner, well, just rude. When did customer service become so rare? Guess they must be doing well if they don't need new customers. There's more, but I am tired of typing. I don't usually leave reviews. Update: to be clear I did not decline the review. We discussed my options at length, and I decided on having the foil treatment as it was the best option for me given the information that was provided to me. The haircut really turned out well. I am very happy with it. It was exactly what I wanted, especially given that my hair has been thinning. I even found out that light-colored hair makes your hair look thinner!
