For having such good reviews, I was taken aback at the mundane menu, boring monotone server, and simple decor. And, my sandwich sucked too. After pouring over the menu to find something interesting, I finally settled on the BLT, right, boring, but for. 4.5, they must add pizzazz, right? FAR FROM IT! The bacon was COLD, who eats cold bacon? There's no flavor! I told the server, she didn't know so asked, and the COOK (far from a chef) said it should be room temp., as did the manager, who was far from interested in my observations. Dear COOk, a BLT should have cold lettuce and tomatoes and hot sizzling yummy bacon. Cold bacon has NO FLAVOR! I didn't pay for the sandwich, but would have preferred an interesting and yummy meal, it isn't about the $$, it's about the experience, and I will never be back! read more

The Virginia artesian cheese board was very good. We sat at the bar area, and got our cheese board and the server didn't tell us anything that was on it, what the cheeses or sauces were (it wasn't on the menu). The waitresses were gossiping behind the bar the entire time from the time we sat down till we left. One waitress decided to stand there over the prepared condiments/toppings eating an avocado with a spoon, wiping her head then serving someone's food. You can blatantly see the entire kitchen cooking in the back and some guy cooking was shoving his face with food while what it looked like was preparing food. Also in this small area, mind you where the dishes were being put out for customers was open containers like coffee cups that was obviously staffs. Another cook in the back had a super long beard and hair, not to discriminate against that but had no hair or beard net and was preparing customers food. Being in conjunction with a winery we maybe expected a little more, and we were disappointed. Basic sanitary precautions I feel need to be taught to the people that work here. read more

Food was just okay. We had antipasto, sandwiches and a wine flight to share between the 4 of us. The sandwiches were dry and the wine was mediocre. The service was slow. Prices were okay; our bill, pre-tip was $85 for 4 of us. One of the tables there seemed to know someone, so they received much better service than we did. We would not go back. read more

Pros: Good food (artisan sandwiches that are huge, refreshing salads, and delcious cheese boards) Friendly wait staff Beautiful scenery Patio and porche seating in addition to inside seating Cons: Food quality is not always consistent. Normally it is delcious but as a frequent visitor of the winery they do have off days. Depending on the time of year it can be crowded with a long wait. There is not really anywhere for one to stand while waiting on a table. Though you can always persue the wine shop :) read more

It's sad that this place is next to such an exceptional winery. After our wine tasting we needed to grab a light lunch before leaving Williamsburg. We sat outside to enjoy the atmosphere. I admit that I'm a picky eater but the server should've warned me about the mediocre kitchen crew, her tip suffered because of it. I ordered lamb sausage flatbread without onions and peppers. They skimped on the goat cheese and basically gave me pounds on meat on a cracker. She offered to have the kitchen fix it after the fact however I wanted nothing else from that place. She should've taken it off my bill. I was better off trying the cheese plate, lesson learned. Boyfriend seemed to enjoy his sandwich although he didn't rave about it. I took the extended family here for brunch. The restaurant is charming. The food was excellent, as was the service. The DH said it was one of the best hamburgers he ever had. The only thing I would like to see is a children's menu. My DIL enjoyed her wine so much she went and bought a nice selection. We will definitely be back. read more

Lovely way to spend an afternoon after a wine tasting. Have more wine and snacks! My table shared a charcuterie plate and a cheese plate and enjoyed every bite. I highly suggest coming here for a meal and even going to a wine tasting. read more

Ate lunch here the other day. Had the Gabriel Archer salad with craisins, pecans, and added chicken to it. It was very filling and had a great raspberry balsamic dressing on there. We ordered glasses of wine and shared a cheese plate, the cheeses were a good variety and went well with our wine. They also serve warm bread and some fruit and jam to accompany the cheese. For the price, they give you a good amount of cheese and that is sometimes hard to come by. My husband had the shakshuka which is a Mediterranean stew with chorizo. It was different tasting but hearty and delicious. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is very relaxing and we enjoyed just hanging out there. read more

Came here after the winery tour. Food was delicious had a turkey sandwich and side salad. Whatever dressing the use on the salad was amazing. Wait for food was a bit long even though there was only three tables that were occupied. But would come back for food and scenery. read more

We had a great experience this afternoon at Gabriel Archer Tavern. Our server Aurora was excellent. She was attentive, knowledge and friendly. We had a minor mishap and the manager was very accommodating. Regardless of what our mishap was, the fact that both our server and manager recognized our concern was just enough. My friend and I were really looking forward to having lunch and made reservations. Let me say that I am really easy to please----as long as I don't have to cook or do the dishes! I ordered the corn & crab chowder and the salad with cranberries and goat cheese. The soup had no crab, no corn, and tasted like a thick Campbell's soup with a few green sprouts on the top. I sent it back and I have never ever sent anything back. The salad was mediocre. Panera serves a better one. My friend ordered a lamb dish and said it tasted just fine. However, she became ill which might have just been a coincidence. THEN, the service was deplorable. The waitress was very sweet when we placed our orders. However, she totally ignored us and proceeded to accommodate a party of 6-8. They were not short-staffed so I assume she thought it was going to be more profitable for her. We couldn't even get her to take our payment and had to go to the bar to pay. This is the very first time my friend and I have never left a tip and we are very heavy tippers. Huge disappointment. I have been to Williamsburg Winery several times but today was quite different. Kedrick was our server and went above and beyond to make our dining experience perfect! I have several food allergies and Kedrick made sure everything was taylored to support my needs. Despite being on point and going above and beyond with our orders, Kedrick was extremely knowledgeable and pleasent. We WILL absolutely return! This young man deserves a raise. We went here as part of a wine tour/tasting/lunch online special on the Williamsburg Winery website. After looking at the individual prices, I don't actually think that there was any financial benefit to this special. Anyway, we really enjoyed the lunch. We sat near the windows so we could look out over the vineyard, and the sandwiches that we were able to choose from were great (roast beef, and turkey w/lingonberry and brie). The cookie that came with the special was also very good. My wife really liked the Governor's White (Riesling), and I was satisfied with my red wine. The service was only ok. The waitress didn't actually know anything at all about wine, which was surprising because she was working in a restaurant at a winery! read more

Nice place to grab a bite if you're wine tasting. Just like the winery, it is very busy on the weekend. Don't wait until you're starving to stop in. We visited on a Saturday at 1PM, and they told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait for a table for two. The bar was wide open so we chose to eat there. We had prompt service and enjoyed two delicious sandwiches with a glass of wine each in about 30 minutes. The menu is small and casual, mostly sandwiches and salads, but executed well. There were several large parties in the restaurant that appeared to be taking their time with a leisurely lunch and enjoying bottles of wine. It's a nice place for that, but that backs up the place quickly. It was raining so everyone was stuck indoors, but they have a cute patio to enjoy your meal outdoors as well. read more

I am genuinely surprised to see the low reviews. We ate here this morning following a tour and tasting at Williamsburg Winery. We dined outside under the wisteria covered trellis in a magical, old world ambiance. Our server Beth was pleasant and very knowledgeable of the menu. She made excellent suggestions of wine pairings based on our meals and preferences. We split the soup of the day, asparagus soup, ($6 but free with coupon) and loved it. It had a smooth texture with notes of garlic and several large chunks of ham. The boyfriend then got the tavern burger ($14) and I got the quiche of the day: salmon, roasted tomatoes, and goat cheese quiche ($10). Both were very tasty, and I appreciated that mine came with fresh greens in a light vinaigrette. The majority of the produce is grown on the property and tasted oh-so fresh. I had a glass of the blush ($5) and he a glass of Lord Botetourt Red ($8). The price, $37 pre-tax/tip, was a bit steep for lunch, but the food was high quality, the service terrific, the portions adequate, and the ambiance phenomenal. Just had a turkey sandwich with salad on the plate. The bread was very tough (stale?), and the salad was wilted. There was very little of the mayo and berry spread on the pressed turkey sandwich, but there was a nice slice of Brie on each sandwich half. We ate at this place several years ago, were disappointed then but thought we would give it another try. We were disappointed again. We won't be returning. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch. I ordered their specialty salad. The greens were old, wilted, some were spoiled and some were gritty. The other ingredients except for croutons were sparse. I sent the salad back and requested the soup of the day instead. It was served lukewarm. We will not be coming back. I would never know if the food was good. The entire inside of the restaurant was empty and 2 tables outside were also empty, but per the manager, who yelled from the kitchen, the wait for food was at least 40 min. Wow! I live in Williamsburg and had a higher expectation of this place. The wine is good, but there is much to be desired when it comes to service at the restaurant.
