Called Gabriel for a kicked in rear door at brother-in-law's house. Obviously needed repairs in a hurry because couldn't lock up house. Gabriel made the time, even with his busy schedule, and repaired the door jam & installed new door the same day. At our home Gabriel also fixed tricky kitchen fluorescent light that had been driving us nuts. Herman replaced a backyard gate lock and installed a nice latch on it at our place in Alameda. He was very professional, friendly, and easy to work with. He spent more time than he originally estimated on it and then tried very hard not to charge me for it but I paid him anyway since he was so helpful. We bought a 1941 home a year ago that needs a lot of updating. My goal was to find someone I could develop a long term relationship with and not have to find a new contractor/handyman every time I was ready to do work. I strongly believe I have found that person in Gabriel. We had roof issues. He came out in the rain, climbed on the roof and successfully stopped the leaking. He's done wall repairs, painting and lots of other small jobs for us. He's definitely the one I call when I need something done, both big and small. Gabriel did a great job fixing my bathtub faucet. Another person had flaked out and the situation was getting a little desperate. Gabriel squeezed me in at the end of a long day of other jobs he had lined up. He had to replace both the posts and seats of the faucet. The faucet works great now! Gabriel did a fantastic job renovating our Californian bungalow in Berkeley a few years ago. The 100-year old house was in a fairly basic state with many original features, including the kitchen, so required substantial updating. We were on a tight budget, and I was working with a number of tradesmen directly. But I kept going back to Gabriel because he is a good craftsman, extremely versatile and a pleasure to work with. He helped to completely redo the kitchen including drywall, tiling, installation of cupboards and appliances; repair and sand the wooden floor in the bathroom and living room; install a complex radiant heating system (which I love); and insulate the floor and roof, among other things. I hired Herman to install a couple of electrical outlets among other things. He was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Herman ran into a few problems, as you would expect with an older house, and was able to find quick and smart solutions. He provided a detailed written estimate and stuck to it! There weren't any surprise charges; in fact he didn't charge me for fixing the problems he ran into (or for moving my treadmill)!! He went well above and beyond the call of duty. I called Gabriel when I was looking for help to do a few final jobs to my rental house. I called a variety of handymen, a few called me back , one or two came to look at the job but only Gabriel showed up ready to find solutions and give an estimate for solutions to the problems. I had some basic fixes which I thought would be easy but every other handyman made the solutions expensive and complicated. The doors on my 1947 home were sticking and the doorknobs might have needed changing. Gabe came with a tool , tightened the doorknobs , showed me how to get them unstuck and realized the problem was with the door and not the knobs and was able to plane it and make it close properly. He also got down to basics on my bathroom problems with a tub that wouldn't stop and water pressure that was low. Again on the first meeting he made some great suggestions about what was the problem, took the drain apart , figured out the problems and gave me an estimate to fix it. He also shopped for all the supplies needed and gave me a quote for the whole job. I had another handyman who gave me a high quote which didn't cover the whole job because "he didn't know what the problems were" . Gabriel is a breath of fresh air, he is reliable, diagnoses problems is really clear on the solution and then shows up and does what he promised. The day before the work was be done , he texted me to confirm the scoop of the word, double check on what things he needed to buy for the job and the time to come by. What a relief to have him contact me instead of having to chase him done. When he went to fix my water pressure problem it was more difficult than he had hoped, but he said to me that he would call the manufacturer and try to trouble shoot it before taking the shower apart. Due to his extra effort the manufacturer send me a new part which he will be able to install in less than 1/2 hour. He is professional, smart, easy good and a great joy to work with. We hired Gabriel to to upgrade our patio. The work involved removing bench seating and planter boxes attached to a retaining wall. He then supervised the laying of the tile we selected. Throughout the entire process, Gabriel provided frequent updates and insightful recommendations. His knowledge of the required tasks was comprehensive. The work was completed in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. In addition, Gabriel is very personable. Gabriel also went to Home Depot with me; once to ensure that we had the appropriate mortar, grout, and sealant; and a second time to pick-up the tile. We hired Gabriel to install a security door on our townhouse. He was kind enough to fit us in to his busy schedule and came at the end of one of his other jobs. He started around 6:30 and left around 9:30pm (when there was barely enough sunlight to still see!). He came back a few days later to fix up some loose ends but it looks great. Our door was a bit tricky to install as a the doorjam sides were not equal so he improvised and got it to fit (open and close) nicely. He is our go to handy man from now on! read more
