It looks cozy from the 35th St. entrance, but it's actually a larger place with upstairs dining. The decor is fresh and modern -- and the noise level doesn't overwhelm conversation. I had the theatre special starting with an *authentic* Greek Salad (No lettuce and a generous block of feta on top!) The super friendly staff comped me a nice Santorini white (without asking) and asked about my opinion of the Organic chicken Main course (a lemony, juicy bliss). With all that, how could I choose anything other than the baklava? Another home run of crispy sweetness with small scoop of gelato. We stopped in for RW lunch on a weekday, and the restaurant was pretty quiet. The service was attentive and friendly, and the space itself was bright and very clean. For appetizers, we ordered the sesame‑crusted feta and the meatballs. The meatballs were ok, but the sesame crusted feta with fig spread was absolutely delicious. For entrées, the branzino was good, nicely cooked, but not particularly memorable. The truffle pasta, however, was excellent: perfectly cooked, creamy, and full of flavor. For dessert, we both had the baklava, which was wonderful, and the pistachio ice cream served alongside it was equally delicious. I was looking for a nice lunch spot in Midtown and decided to try Gaia because of the positive Yelp reviews.  I opted for the prix fixe lunch menu, which offers a variety of options for each of the two courses. I kicked things off with complimentary warm pita bread and hummus. I tried to avoid filling up on this to leave room for the main course; however, I ended up eating all the bread anyway. I had the grilled Spanish octopus with pearl onions, confit cherry tomatoes, and fava for my first course. Although there is a $10 upcharge for this dish, it was divine and so worth it. For the main course, I had the Lavraki filet, a grilled Mediterranean sea bass with sautéed wild greens, capers, and ladolemono (extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice). While the fish was good, it had too much char on top for my taste. My server was attentive and the manager made a point to come by my table to say hello during my meal. I found Gaia as part of the restaurant week participants. Gaia is located in K-town and is next door to a hotel, however the entrance is different. Once I walked into Gaia, I was astonished in how gorgeous this restaurant is! I am obsessed with the chandeliers, I wish I had high ceilings and able to hang a chandelier like the one here. Right when you walk in, there is a long bar to the left with tables located alongside and in the back, note there is also a private upstairs area, which would be perfect for a party (noted for the future!) I went with a party of 5 and initially thought it would be a good deal getting the $60 restaurant week dinner menu, however no one was really interested in the dishes through RW and we ended up ordering 1 from RW and the rest from the regular menu. From the RW, we ordered 1 menu, greek salad, cod fish and gelato. Which were all delicious. From the regular menu, we ordered from apps: octopus, calamari, zucchini chips, spanakopita. And then from the entrees: lobster pasta and fish special (it is a fresh fish from New Zealand called Alfonsino) and the RW cod fish. We were completely blown away from all of the dishes. Major highlights were the octopus with santorini fava beans (my fav!), and the fresh grilled alfonsino fish. I have never had this fish before and it was totally worth it! To top off the delicious food, our server and the manager were both so attentive, offering us extra treats. Gaia is my new Greek restaurant obsession! I must go back asap. Highly recommend. Overall I enjoyed Gaia, the dishes were true to form mediterranean, the ingredients were clearly very fresh and the range of items on the menu was decent. Service was prompt and friendly, although when we went the restaurant wasn't very busy so it's hard to know how consistent the service is. The decor is modern and airy with concertina glass windows that open up onto the street. Came in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and had such a great experience! The restaurant is stunning with a huge, gorgeous bar area that really sets the vibe. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was super fresh, flavorful, and so unique--I legit could've licked the plate clean. Our waitress was awesome and super friendly. We sat near the front, which probably wasn't the best spot since most big groups were seated in the back, so service was a tiny bit slower at times, but nothing major at all. The oysters had almost no meat, the duck was extremely salty, and the lobster was overcooked and a bit dry. Gaia was a delightful surprise, especially since I booked it last minute on a Friday night. We first sat at the bar and got stuffed olives and a Santo Assyrtico, which is hard to find in a lot of Greek restaurants in America. I had booked it as a date night, and when Jimmy, our waiter, asked if we were celebrating anything, we casually said "maybe an early anniversary?" as our anniversary is coming up in a week or so. We opted for the restaurant week dinner menu, and the portions for a restaurant week menu were actually quite sizeable! We got the Greek salad (super fresh and like how we had tasted it in Greece), Dorado ceviche (not the best I had tasted but still pretty good), and the branzino. The branzino was definitely the star of the show and tender with the skin perfectly crispy. So, so flavorful. When it came to dessert, my husband got the cheesecake and I got the gelato (fig and chocolate). Not sure I'd get the fig again, but the chocolate was great. The cheesecake was good but not amazing. What was amazing though was at the end, we got a surprise sparkler with two glasses of sparkling wine (which was actually very good with very small bubbles, a mark of quality)! Seriously, wow. My wife and I had the opportunity to dine at GAIA the other night. Again - wow!!! The smaller storefront in no way reflects the interior. The place is so spacious and so pretty, it is hard to inventory all of the special features in the building. The two floor restaurants has amazing detail and touches throughout. There is marble and gold, linen and beautiful glassware, it is a work of art! Speaking of works of art, the Mediterranean themed menu doesn't miss a beat. Our group had a sampling of apps, main dishes and desserts so we got to share. The apps included various seafood items. There a bread service with olives, hummus, and warm pita. We shared lamb, beef, and two preparations of fish for main courses. And then dessert - such good options from cheesecake to profiteroles to a small fried dough followed by fruit. Service was friendly, professional, and attentive. They knew the menu inside and out. And never overbearing - they stayed in the shadows and popped out as needed! What a great addition to the NY restaurant scene. It's a celebration spot, romantic dinner destination, a wonderful bar to grab a drink or just a casual dinner on a weeknight. I came here with friends for restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! We tried the tasting of 3 spreads, dorado ceviche and meatballs for appetizers. The 3 spreads came with fresh out of the oven pita and honestly was a huge portion considering it was an app. My favorite was the meatballs which were flavorful and tender. For entrees, we got the wild cod, branzino and paccheri pasta which were all really good. I ended up packing some of the pasta to take home and it still tasted great the next day. For dessert, we got a cheesecake with strawberry sauce, chocolate mousse, and their pistachio and fig gelato. I'm not a huge fan of sweets but their chocolate mousse was my fave. It had a solid chocolate bottom which provided a different texture than the mousse and i thought it worked really well together. I also got to try a red greek wine here! I recently dined during Restaurant Week at Gaia, a Mediterranean (primarily Greek) restaurant. The staff warmly greeted us upon entry. The interior is beautiful, supplying a feast for the eyes, with a stained glass artwork worthy of a museum. We opted for the three-course prix fixe menu, and the waiter convinced us to add the tuna tartare to share, which was an excellent suggestion. Seafood seems to be their specialty. For starters, we had the lobster-pumpkin soup and the meatballs. The meatballs were extremely tender--unexpectedly so--and very delicious. For the main course, we chose the risotto and the sea bass. The sea bass was a generous portion with a mild flavor. Despite the generally good atmosphere, the noise level was extremely loud. We found ourselves shouting at each other, and the waiters had to raise their voices to take orders. Then, live music started, compounding the noise level. I like to have conversations with my dinner companions, and this made it impossible. As a result, I probably will not return, which is unfortunate because I think the restaurant has a lot to offer. read more

You're paying for authenticity, exemplary service and ambiance, and authentic, fresh, exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. My husband and I honeymooned in Greece, and our dinner transported us back to the Aegean. Everything was fresh, the olive oil alone is other-worldly, let alone the rest of our phenomenal dinner - I truly cannot remember the last time I had a dining experience like this. Located conveniently smack in Midtown Manhattan just off of Herald Square, a block and a half away from Penn Station, a few blocks from Grand Central, Gaia needs to be on your list. I cannot wait to return and try the rest of the menu. On our first visit, we got the branzino carpaccio, stuffed grilled calamari, and the Greek salad to start. Even down to the vegetables in the Greek salad, the last time I had bell peppers so fresh was when I was in Greece, and I'm not exaggerating. Entrees were a grilled Faroe Islands wild salmon (which was imported, along with the majority of their incredibly fresh fish), and lamb chops with Greek lemon potatoes - easily the best lamb chops I've ever tasted. I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir so that I could unwind. I perused the menu, and I ordered Grilled Calamari to begin. It was tender, and tasty. As my entre I ordered the Lobster Pasta. It was very good, and it contained a generous amount of Lobster. The complimentary Pita Bread and Olives were delicious too. I ended with Cheese cake. It was smooth and creamy.
