This place had great Ovo-vegetarian options, which is why I will take the time to leave a review. I'm from out of town and went here for breakfast on a busy weekend. Seating was efficient, they don't seat if your whole party isn't here. This reduces wait times significantly. Everything on the menu sounded good and everything I saw looked great. I mean EVERYTHING I had the Hippy Omelet for $7.99 and they had no problem with substitutions, or you can build your own. Took my mom here for Mother's Day. It was our first time here today and I can honestly say we will be going back! It was a bit confusing on how to get into the place if you've never been considering you go through Ophelia's to get into Gailey's. But for it being around 8:30 on a Sunday on a holiday we only waited 20 minutes for our food. We sat at the bar and watched all of the delicious food come out. My wife and I went to Gailey's for the first time a few weeks ago. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. No big deal. We ended up sitting at the bar and ordered. Coffee came fast and it was really good. Ten minutes later, we were out of coffee and no server was to be found. Another ten minutes goes by, still no coffee. For me, breakfast and coffee go hand and hand. Keep the cup full! Another 5-10 minutes goes by, the server comes to refill our cup. We ask him about our food as it has been 25-30 minutes. He goes to check on our order. He comes back to tell us that our order would be started after the big table in the other room was finished. We decided to leave at this point. The service was horrible and we aren't going to wait 45-60 minutes for breakfast. read more

The food has always been great, but I think it's silly to wait 90 minutes to eat breakfast. They have an entire lobby the size of their seating area which they just use for guests on the wait. Please just add another flat-top and turn more tables over. read more

It had been a few years since I had eaten here. I always liked it, not sure why I stopped coming here. I guess I had forgotten about it, but since I have been yelping, I rediscovered it. We got there around 8 am on a Sat. No wait, so that was good. Food came out about on time and really hot. It tasted great and the menu provides a great variety. I used to go in weekly for a delicious plate of scrambled egg and biscuits and gravy. It's delicious. Just the thing to hit the spot on a cold winter day. I wake up in cold sweats thinking about the biscuits and gravy. In a darkened corner of my apartment in Chicago, I sob quietly at my inability to procure the Sweet-Browns (fyi, you should trademark that name). Last time I was there, I stared in awe at the peaceful nature of the line cook, wondering how it came about that he secured this employment that he so clearly loves. I wanted to ask him if he enjoys his job, but his zen-like gaze at my eggs cooking to fluffy perfection gave me the answer. The Bear Hug. Just thinking about it gives me the chills, and makes me think that if I were to hug an actual bear, it would be as warm and inviting as this formidable feast of breakfast heaven. I want to nestle in, and let go of my childhood traumas. The walnut pancakes make me want to throw the plate against the wall in disbelief. YOU JUST CAN'T DO PANCAKES THAT WELL! I want to call my friends and have them deliver a plate of the biscuits and gravy to my door, but that wonder of the earth does not deserve to suffer through the flat and boring plains of Illinois. On a serious note, though I have never worked in the service industry (well, except that one time in college), even I know that to expect perfection on every occassion is to welcome disappointment. Non-service world individuals need to realize that the more you tip, the friendlier you are and the less you complain, the better your service will be. The mentality that "this is their job, and it's what they are paid for," is simply untenable. Consider that bartenders make an average of $2-$4 per hour, and thus live off of their tips. If you are only tipping every once in a while, they are going to kiss someone else's ass for the money. Further, to come on a public forum such as Yelp, and publicly denounce the service of someone handling your food, and further to accompany that review with a picture featuring your actual face should only make you nervous that your service will get worse. I'm sure that at least one of the workers here reads these reviews, trust me, the owner certainly does. Obviously, this place does not need everyone, and I would prefer that individuals such as yourself (the royal version) stay away from my beloved breakfast nook. read more

Best tasting breakfast in Springfield in my opinion. Vegetarian/gluten-free friendly. The atmosphere is so fun - they've done a great job maintaining the charm of the old Ice cream shop/drugstore while also making updates to the decor and menu. Busy on the weekends, even most weekdays, but I always leave thinking it was worth the wait. I love eating here solo (get seated at the bar right away), but it's also a great place to take the family. read more

Can't really comment on the food, as it never made it to us in our hour and a half + at Gailey's. I understand that it was a busy Sunday morning at 10:00 and there was a wait. We were sat at the bar after a 30 minute wait, then ordered juice and placed our order within 5 minutes. Sat for an hour without anything. My daughter wasn't even asked if she wanted a refill on her empty drink. When people that were sat after us were receiving their meals before us, that was a problem. My daughter had an appointment, so we had no choice to leave. So disappointing. read more

I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to sit on the cute soda fountain looking side but it was nice to not have to wait, so hooray! Nice place. Large diner style menu with lots of fun combos of breakfast offerings. I had the cowboy platter which was a breakfast steak with peppers and beans, an egg and cheese breakfast burrito and I tried the sweet potato hash, giant amazing wheat toast. The steak and burrito were fun and tasty. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sweet potato hash but it was a fun new thing to try. The toast may have been my favorite part, I know silky right. I meant to ask where they got the bread from but i forgot. My sister in law and nephews got the French side I think? It was French toast, with scrambled eggs, cheese, and ham with hash browns. We usually try to avoid the downtown eateries and shops simply because in the past we usually had bad experiences there, and never returned (Aviary is a perfect example). Craving some brunch food last Saturday, my wife found this place on Yelp, and convinced me to try it. We went in, and it had a very trendy-hipster feel (Exhibit A and B- live music, and we were probably the oldest people in there). It was very busy, and very loud in that cramped little place, but they found us two seats up at the counter. The plus side to this was we got to watch our food being made. Our server was nice, however her voice blended in with the noise level in there, so at times it was hard to hear her. I ordered eggs benedict, and my wife ordered peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes.Our meals were cooked fairly fast, which impressed us. The pancakes were great (my wife gave me a fork full to try), and for the most part my meal was good. Only complaint about the meal was the hollandaise sauce looked clumpy and separated, and tasted a bit on the really sour side to me. The bill came to about 23 dollars, which was really cheap compared to other places in the area. Overall we enjoyed our visit. Only complaints was the crowded and noisy atmosphere, and the sauce on the eggs benedict. I think we may go again sometime, only hopefully on a less crowded day, and I may try the french toast next time, which looked absolutely awesome. read more

I really want to like this place, but every time I go I am disappointed. The waiting staff always looks annoyed that they have to serve you. Once you do get seated and have your order in, it takes forever to get your food and then the staff almost never come and see if you need anything else. The last time I went in I got the buiscuts and gravy. The buiscuts were very hard like they were made the day before. The gravy was pretty good though. You would think after sitting under a pool off gravy the buiscuts would get soggy but somehow they defied physics and stayed hard and super dry. I will not be going back here again. Its too bad to because this town does not have to many breakfast only restaurants. read more

"Dropped The Ball Once Again" Sitting at the bar, waiting (for an eternity...) for breakfast, saw the cook re-cook (with emphases o re-cook) bacon / hash-browns. Second cook, came in from smoking a cigarette. with her cell phone stuck down her rear pants / waist line showing her ass, didn't wash her hands, slipped on those plastic type gloves and started handling people's food. Not worth the wait. We visited Gailey's after reading the positive reviews but I have to say we weren't impressed. We went on a busy Sunday but considering the restaurant isn't all that big, I was surprised we had to wait around a half hour for our food. In the meantime, the orange juice we ordered was room temperature--ew! The flavor wasn't bad but still, it wasn't fantastic. At least we only ordered a small. I got the Belgian Waffle with bacon, 2 over-easy eggs, and a side order of hash browns. My partner got the Freedom Waffle (topped with strawberries and blueberries), sausage links, and over-hard eggs. The hash browns were soggy. The waffles were dry and not very flavorful. The blueberries on the Freedom Waffle were obviously from a bag and the strawberries may have been too. The eggs, while cooked properly, were obviously older (they weren't spoiled, just several weeks old by the look and texture of them). The bacon was alright, just very crunchy. The sausage links were decent. Our server was friendly at least and wore a smile the whole time, but there were no apologies for the wait so I'm assuming it's a normal busy Sunday thing. Overall, I would rate this about equal to a Denny's, IHOP, or Bob Evan's. Except you definitely won't have to wait as long at one of those restaurants. read more

We were in town for a conference and went here based on other Yelp reviews. We loved it! The staff was all truly wonderful. We received excellent service. I had the Banana Pancakes, I was so full I didn't even want dinner. My companions had the waffle which they loved. We thought the atmosphere was fantastic. An older building with lots of interesting details but what we thought was the most interesting was they had a live harp player. I have never been somewhere that had live harp outside of the symphony. It was a fun time with great food. I'm glad we went. read more

Excellent food and customer service! The kitchen was slow, and we waited around 45-60 minutes for our food, but were willing to overlook this because they were extremely busy, however, when we did receive the food it was made incorrectly. The staff was very apologetic, quickly had our order corrected and back on our table in 10 minutes, and comped our entire bill. The food itself was excellent and that, coupled with the way management handled the situation, sealed the deal. We'll definitely be back! read more

Well, seeing the other two glowing reviews of Gailey's, I thought I'd give it a try on Monday morning. I was sort of disappointed, honestly. Since it was a Monday in the mid-morning, seating wasn't really an issue. Though this place is small, we were seated right away and our drinks were ordered. All of the tables were full in the restaurant, but it seemed like everyone was getting service quickly enough. Now, we did have sort of a large group (six in all). But it took our order a long time to come out. Some people that had come in after us were done eating before we got our food. I got the, gosh, I forgot what it was called? The American Waffle? Red white and blue? Something like that. It was a waffle topped with blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream. The blueberries and strawberries were both really sour and not very fresh in my opinion. Though I normally prefer my fruit to not be doused in sugar, it would have been a lot more palatable that way. My waffle was fine, not super crispy but it was okay. I also had eggs over easy, which were. . . eggs over easy... sort of hard to mess up, as well as some bacon. During our entire meal, we each got one refill. I tend to drink a lot with my meal, so I was annoyed that couldn't seem to ever flag our waitress down. All in all, it was okay. Went to give this place another try and it wasn't any better. The servers seem disorganized and rude. We didn't even know who our server was. I asked a simple question about the menu to one of the servers that came to us and she had no idea and ignored my question. I didn't even get all my food I ordered an entree and a small side of pancakes. Not hard right? WRONG. I didn't even bother to get a server and tell them because I knew they had no idea how to handle it and it would probably take 30 mins to get that side of pancakes. I am consistently disappointed and for sure won't go back and will make sure the people I'm around don't go there either. The cooks and hosts are very nice if you talk to them, but the servers have no idea what's going on, are rude, and shouldn't be servers at all yet at a busy place. For a breakfast joint in Springfield, this is as good as it gets. Food: Pretty darn good. They are known for their 'sweet browns' which is hash browns with sweet potatoes. The food is always fresh, presented well and good portions. The hot chocolate is great. Atmosphere: It is a mix between old diner and cool, hip joint. Our server was Lauren. She was very nice and checked on us the perfect amount. I got the Full Monty with a mimosa (the fresh start). I replaced the baked beans with bacon. The bacon was over cooked, but everything else was absolutely delicious. The sourdough toast was phenomenal, probably the best I've ever had. My fiancé got the Julia's burrito and a Bloody Mary made spicy. Everything he ordered was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back again! read more

The pancakes!!! I absolutely love the pancakes because they are crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy in the middle. They also taste like funnel cakes because they are sweeter than a normal pancake. Aside from the pancakes everything I've had was also very amazing. read more
