Oh Gailey's - so much potential! The food at this restaurant is creatively designed and tasted great! I had El Jefe skillet (which was amazing) and a side of biscuits & gravy (very good). My sons had blueberry hill (pancakes) and chicken & waffles - all delicious. If it weren't for the slow service on this quiet Wednesday morning I would have rated this cute cafe higher. We got to seat ourselves...it took a few minutes for a server to acknowledge us and bring ice waters. A few more minutes and I got my cup of coffee, which was quickly emptied by the time we got to order and not refilled until our food finally arrived. It was a full 10-15 minutes after we finished eating before we got the check so we could pay and leave...lots of sitting around and waiting. If you want delicious food and are in a chatty mood and not an eat & go mood, this place is perfect for you...cross your fingers your server will keep your coffee mug full! read more

Stayed at Hotel Vandivort across the street. Took my 13 month old and walked across the street to get breakfast to give my wife some peace and quiet to get ready at 8am this morning. Gailey's was half full at best. I was asked how many and I said it was just the two of us but my wife would probably join us later. I was then told they could not seat me until she came. I said I couldn't just hold a 13 month old and really would like to be seated. Was told again no. This is while nobody else is even waiting to be sat! I said fine, could we just have a table for the two of us and my wife could eat somewhere else. I was told no, that I could not be seated at a table. I understand a seating policy for parties greater than 4 people. However, whether I was by myself, with my son (in a high chair) or with my wife, we would have still just required a two top table. I never have been treated so rudely at a restaurant. Go to Aviary a block away. Got seated right away. Had a wonderful crepe breakfast and very attentive service! Aviary certainly helped to reverse the negative start to the day that Gailey's promotes. read more

I've been to Gailey's many times as it's a downtown staple. My experience is always the same, which is this: usually I get seated fairly quickly unless we go on a weekend, in which case we put in our name and then go grab coffee to go at Coffee Ethic and usually a table is ready by the time we get back. The problem is, the time from being seated to actually having our food is always very long. The servers are always great, but for whatever reason the food takes a long time (usually around half an hour) to come out, no matter what day we go there. Once the food does arrive it's always good. We just realize that going to Gailey's is going to be about a two-hour affair. Also, it's very noisy so not a great place for conversation. For those reasons, we usually pick The Order (across the street) or Druff's (one block away) instead for breakfast, but if you're really a breakfast lover Gailey's may be worth the wait. read more

The menu is vast, which is always concerning to me because you can't do anything superb. I had the Michelle. It wasn't very seasoned. It didn't hold together well. The make-your-own omelet is the best route and at a reasonable price. The menu needs just a little more rounding, huevous rancheros would be a nice touch. And it's not without a strikeout or two: peanut butter and chocolate chips pancakes. Lunch is a mostly forgettable experience. In Springfield, trying to find breakfast somewhere besides a chain can be difficult, and Gailey's is one of the few games in town. They deserve credit for consistency and the staff keeps the plates moving and cups full. The food won't be the best you've ever had, but it won't be the worst. Truly three, happy stars. read more

The one downside is the inconsistent service and the kitchen's lack of efficiency. That gets annoying at times. That said, I'm still a patron and will continue to be. read more

Gaileys is a good breakfast stop, not brunch don't be confused! It has diner coffee and breakfast food, good service, and a good atmosphere. If you're looking for a weekend breakfast outing with the family on any parents weekend - good luck. I've waited an hour for this place (not saying it's not a great place, or worth the wait) but if you are not okay with waiting either put your name in ahead of everyone or try your luck elsewhere. I love going here on a weekday morning before a class or with friends on a friday. It's a fun place to grab coffee and a good plate of hashbrowns! So I don't want to do this because the poor guy working the front counter was running around doing his best, and he was really nice, but management needs to do some serious work on the amount of time it takes to get waited on and food out and tended to the check here. It wasn't the fault of the guy waiting on us, as he was doing his best, but this place is just seriously understaffed. We arrived at 10:35 am and didn't get out until 11:59!!!!! Sorry but there's absolutely no excuse. The poor guy was running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to tend to about more than half the restaurant. My son lives here and comes often and said the wait is always this bad. NO EXCUSE. We live in Florida and if a restaurant tried to do this there they'd go out of business in a heartbeat.
