Hands down my favorite nail salon in town! I am always able to make an appointment which is usually last minute on myself, of which is always kept to actual appointment time. You walk in and see that they care. You are always greeted with a hello, Galaxy is always super clean and decorated for any occasion! I can go simple or show a picture of what I'm thinking, there is never hesitation by any of the staff. They nail it every time, even if they have other staffers help. All staff is super kind, friendly and just want your experience to be top notch! If you happen to have any problems like a break or smudge you can always stop back in for a fix, of course within a reasonable amount of days without issue. I will not go elsewhere. The only reason I'm giving a 2 is bc the lady who actually gave me service was nice. I will say that I felt like the staff was super nice with their white customers and not so much with me. I'll give several examples: First, walking in off the street, I'm NOT greeted-just "What would you like?" By a man who wouldn't even look at me twice. I say in a very nice way "I'd like to know if I can have a fill in please?" He says something I don't understand so I say "excuse me?" The lady sitting around interprets his directions and he does not look up at me at all. Next, he shoos me over to a booth and just drops some things that looks like books down. I've never been here, I don't know them so how would I have known that those were the "books" they use for you-the customer-to choose your color? He literally DID NOT SPEAK AT ALL. When the lady who did my service came over, I asked "how much is this service?" . She said "$45 for the fill in and oh! You have a mail that I need to fix, that's $3 and your nails are long, that's an additional $5." I said okay. Now, her "fix" of the nail that I expect to be her applying an overlay to the nail to save it. YES, I EXPLAINED THAT, she said they do not do that. Hun? So, even though she cut my nails down, just applied a fake nail over mine to "fix" it, my service with $56 with tax. My fingers are gritty because they don't allow you to wash your hands and what she put on my cuticles was not cuticle oil. There was no lotion, no hand rubs and not even a damn "Goodbye! Thank you for your business!" Just her pushing my hand way saying "have a nice day". I strongly recommend that if you are of color, you can spend your money at a place where you will be treated well. This is why I'm not getting nails done anymore. I don't need to be treated like I don't matter when Karen & I are paying for the same service. Came in right at 10 am when they opened. Came for a gel manicure and pedicure. They first asked that I use hand sanitizer (which I appreciated) and then I went to pick out a color. The color of summer 2021 is a mix between neon and mint green -- and I WANTED IN ON IT! :) Unfortunately, so does everyone else. They were out of that color (for gel and dip powder) and so I ended up just getting regular nail Polish (fingers crossed it'll last). I had two nail techs - one for manicure and one for pedicure. Were very friendly and super professionals. Nail tech who did my mani tried out a bunch of colors on my nails so I could pick out a color that I liked. So appreciated. She even reminded me a few times that I needed to be extra careful with my manicure since it wasn't gel, or powder. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience and it was all done within an hour! read more

This is the best nail salon in Iowa City, no contest. I came here after having a couple of meh experiences at a few other places, and now that is the only place I go. After only two sessions, two staff members remembered my name and things about my life, and were super friendly and attentive. The price for a gel manicure is cheaper than other places around town and the manicure is generally higher quality. They ask you to sanitize your hands when you come in which is a nice touch to the cleanliness. The place is clean, friendly, and the interior design makes it feel like a nail "bar." I heard good things about this place but I was underwhelmed. When I arrived there was no wait which was nice. However, the nail technician that took me didn't do much to make me feel comfortable. I had to have my shellac removed and she seemed convinced that it was a powder manicure and kept examining my nails, which sort of made me feel like she didn't believe me. Then, as she was removing my polish two women came in that seemed to have an appointment with her so she wrapped my nails to soak the polish off and asked me to move to the waiting area so she could take them. She didn't offer to help with my bag or jacket or anything so of course as I tried to move the foil from the soak came off several nails. I reapplied them myself since no one offered to help. So my original tech could take her clients I was passed off to someone else. Once again when moving stations there was no offer to help with my belongings. The second tech I had seemed nice enough although we didn't talk much and I just sort of felt like I was part of an assemblyline. I got a shellac manicure and it turned out fine, but I just didn't have a very relaxing manicure experience. Also, after a few days I noticed what look like very thin cracks in my manicure. You have to look very close to see them but I haven't had that happen before. Overall this salon is fine but my experience was not great. I went to get a manicure in part to feel relaxed and I just felt shuffled around and the service was impersonal. There are so many other nail salons around I don't really see a reason to return. read more

Didn't stop despite me telling him it hurt multiple times and he ended up ripping off a piece of my thumb nail. He was very fast, but very messy. I ended up with a bunch of dip hardener on my fingertips despite his half hearted attempt at removing it. I had planned on getting a pedicure, but I was too scared. (A pleasant surprise) The service I received was the dip powder manicure and the removal of what I had on my nails already. The technician is clearly inexperienced--the nail was ground down to the nail bed using a grinder. The technician told her that she can come back in a few days to get a fake nail put on!! I've been to Galaxy three times in the last year and a half, most recently 2 weeks ago. The staff is friendly and the salon is clean, but after visiting other locations, it is fair to say that they have really raised their prices and I think the additional costs have become excessive.I was charged extra for length and for shape- unless this has become a standard practice since COVID, I've never had to pay that much extra for either. And these were NOT long nails. I found it strange to be charged for these items. (A friend booked our appts together so I figured it would be fine to try them again. They're also open later which made them a good choice for our schedules.) My technician was really nice but she cut my nail bed or cuticles several times with the Emory board. Oh man, let me sing some praises. First of all, my nails look fantastic! Now details: The people who work here are fun as hell to be around. I originally booked two appointment slots so that my friend could come. When she got sick and I showed up without her, there was zero guilt trip. None. When I accidentally RUINED his beautiful work on one of my nails, the technician took it in stride. When the fix didn't work on second and even THIRD attempt, he continued to be an absolute champ about it. I mean seriously, if I were him, I would have been so annoyed, but he was upbeat, funny, and just so damn nice. He didn't make me feel bad about being what others would deem a "nightmare client" at all. Instead, I walked away feeling like I had truly been taken care of in spite of my accidental sabotage...RARE. I just had the best pedicure of my life. I hadn't had a pedicure I hadn't given myself in ages, and my body was sore from working out yesterday. The salon itself is beautiful, modern, and impeccably clean. The massage chair worked wonders on my sore back, and the woman who gave me my jelly pedicure was kind and meticulous. Everything about my experience, from a enjoying glass of wine to the drying bar, was top-notch. And, they are open on Sundays to boot! I've gotten only dip here and they're fab. It lasts so long and they really take their time making sure each nail is perfect!!! They also offer great deals Monday through Thursday; if you make an appointment, you get a percentage off! Affordable and so good. The only negative is they do take quite a long time. I've been there for two hours before and the shortest time is about an hour. I truthfully think it's worth it because it just shows they take such pride in their work! Went to Galaxy Nails today with my daughter-in-law for a mani-pedi (each). We were both very happy with the atmosphere, cleanliness, service, professionalism, and results. I do believe my pedicure was the best I've ever had. There have been times (at other spas) I've requested and paid for a "deluxe" pedicure, but wondered if that was what I actually got. BUT at Galaxy there was no doubt, it was so relaxing and delightful. The pedicure I had at Galaxy was one of the best if not the best I've ever had. Because I am hard on my hands, I have given up on polish. I'm just not that into it. However, my daughter-in-law got a lovely gel application that was gorgeous. I went in for a pedicure on Monday 8/5. The customer service during my pedi was satisfactory. I went home Monday night and took a closer look at my feet and realized it didn't look like I got a pedicure at all! My feet were still catching on my bed sheets and this is why! My toes, balls of feet and heels were not pumice, my toe nails were cut jagged or not at all. To make matters worse, I went in the next day to show my feet to them and ask for it to be fixed, or reimbursed and they argued with me saying that I have a skin peeling condition and would need to take Vitamin C. After everyone was yelling and arguing in front of me in a foreign language, I was told to sit down in a chair. I told them I would happily go somewhere else if it was an issue. They filled the pedicure sink about 2 inches, got my feet wet and attempted to buff off dry skin. After about 2 minutes they said that they can't do anything else for me and I would need to get vitamins to stop my feet from peeling. I have had pedicures at many other places and my feet NEVER look like this the night of, or even the day after. Absolutely horrible customer service and zero ownership of mistakes. They used to never charge for "long nails" especially when my nails aren't even long. They won't even explain why they charge you for extra, they just expect you to pay it.
