I was in charge of booking two overnight stays for 16 women for before and after our rafting trip. We've rafted the Rogue River for the past 18 years and every year we've gone, we've ended up at Galice for dinner one of the nights so I looked into staying there as well. I found the Lodge House which sleeps over 20 people. This house was perfect for my group not only for the size, but the convenience. The 2nd floor has 6 bedrooms each with their own bathrooms - that is the perfect situation for my group of 16 women! Not only was the house great to stay in, but the food, music and staff at the Main Lodge are great. Debbie and staff were very welcoming and warm and were very helpful to our group. They worked with us to ensure everything went smoothly between our stay and our rafting trip/group. The food is excellent and the live music was a great treat. The restaurant deck overlooks the beautiful Rogue River - can't get much better than that! I would highly recommend staying here or even just stopping by for a burger and a brew. read more

This place brought back so many great memories of rafting trips with my father on the rogue river! From the time I was about 7 and almost every year thereafter, my father would take me to the rogue River to do the wilderness run for about 4 days. We always stopped at the Galice store for a last chance ice cream or soda. This time I brought my new husband to the Galice resort and we just loved being greeted and served by the very friendly staff. Namely Antonio! He was soooo nice and attentive and had a wonderful welcoming smile. It always makes our day when we get great customer service and that is what Antonio delivered. Great setting. Waitresses/staff were friendly and helpful. Meal arrived in a timely fashion. French fries, ice cream and garlic bread all get thumbs up. Fried cod gets a thumbs down. Batter thick and fish inside mushy. Also, thought cole slaw and tartar looked like they were in the fridge, uncovered. I will try it again. Fun place to go. read more

A little piece of paradise I was reading a few of the other reviews and was pretty bummed by them because my husband and I had a wonderful time at Galice Resort last week!! This was my husband's and my first time visiting Galice Resort. This was actually our first time visiting Southern Oregon for that matter and with it only being a 4 hour drive from our home in Bend it's crazy to think we haven't visited before. We're the type of people who love to camp, go hiking, and basically "get away from it all." There is nothing I would rather do than to unplug, spend some time outside, or go on an adventure and Galice Resort is just the place to do all that and more. Yes there is no cell service or T.V. in the cabin we stayed in but that's the whole point of unplugging right!? We stayed in Cabin #3 which was all too perfect for my husband and myself. It was clean, comfortable, and had all the basic necessities we needed for our 2 night stay. The cabin was rustic in all the best ways. It came with a Queen sized log framed bed, a log bunk bed, a reclining chair and mini fridge. The cabin had a very warm and cozy atmosphere with quilts on the beds, pine trees on the curtains, and cute little signs around the cabin like "what happens at the river stays at the river" and "welcome to our cabin." These cabins have air conditioning, heating, and even have a back deck where you can relax in the shade of the surrounding trees. My husband got some of the best sleep he's gotten in months due to the quiet peaceful setting and comfortable bed. There is even a bathroom in the cabin! The water was hot, the bathroom was clean, and towels are provided. The cabins sit on top of a hill and just below that is the restaurant/store, which is where you will find the owner Debbie tending to her guests and making everyone feel like family. We always started our morning by taking the short walk from our cabin down to the restaurant to get our morning coffees and then pick up some worms from the store for fishing. The store has all the little necessities that you might need while there from drinks, ice, souvenirs, bathroom products, to tents. We were originally planning on bringing a camp stove and cooking food at our cabin on one of the picnic tables, but we decided to just eat dinners at the restaurant and I'm sure happy we did. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was even better. The restaurant sits right on the Rogue River! We sat outside to eat our meals and then afterward enjoyed the bean bag toss and ladder ball games that were set up. Even if you have never gone white water rafting before this place is worth checking out! They have a variety of skill levels required for different sections of the river from beginner to expert. They have life jackets and oars to rent right at the resort and you can choose from inflatable kayaks to large guided raft tours. The guides will load you and your rentals up right at the resort and drop you off at your destination. From fishing, to hiking, to the amazing rafting trips this place is unforgettable. The staff is so friendly that you will feel like you've come home or that you're just staying with friends. Needless to say we will be back again and again!! We can't wait to bring our friends and family along for the next trip. read more

Five stars for the rafting, three for accommodations. Looks like a roadside shop but the shop is actually the front desk for the rafting and "resort" (overshooting on that description). The accommodations are cabins, a cottage and a lodge up the hill. We stayed at the cottage, clean, two bedroom with kitchen and hot tub. Pros- grill and outside eating and a porch. Cons- A/c unit never cools the place down and the cottage itself is a little run down. Rafting was fantastic. I was a little trepidatious about not having a guide but the young man I spoke to when making my reservation was confident we would be fine. We were. Class 1 and II Rapids and we are newbies. Really fun day. They shuttle you up 7miles, you raft down, hitting galice midday. You can picnic or go up to the deck for lunch. You let them know what time you want to be met by the shuttle and head down the river again. Don't miss the Jumping Rock below Arno. The guided rafts won't stop there. It's the only place along that stretch you can jump into deep water. After 14 miles of rafting the hot tub was perfect as was the idea of just hitting the shop/restaurant for dinner. Good burger. Very convenient not having to drive in and out for our rafting trip. read more

This thank you is months overdue. While kayaking in a Tahiti, my boat overturned and I was separated from it and in the heaviest water of the season, alone. (The first the last time I'll do that, mind you.) The alert crew at the Galice Resort saw my boat and my gear float past and looked for a life jacket. Seeing none, they sent search and rescue team members that are part of the community there, up river to find me which they did. I was completely disoriented and could not see a way to get to the road as well as having a very bad ankle from 30 years prior. They got me, they drove me to where my boat had snagged and offered to help retrieve it. These are fine people and will forever be my friends. Unsanitary. Low quality, overpriced food, made in an absolutely filthy kitchen. Check your drink for ants, check your food for foreign objects. Don't eat the soured cream that comes out of the soft serve ice cream machine, and whatever you do, do not eat the chili. if you're looking for strawberry shortcake, be ready for a biscuit. Only show in town. I saw the reviews, and i should have listened. Don't make the $50 mistake i did, eat anywhere but here. This is a hidden gem that no one should pass up! The food is excellent and the staff just makes it fun! The view is amazing! To be able to sit on the huge patio right on the river and be able to watch the rafts go by is incredible! The scenic drive is another benefit to this amazing place! Just spent three days at the Galice Resort. The cabins and were fine, just what I would expect for the price. The guys at the boat house were really cool, knowledgeable, and helpful. What I didn't expect was what I got from the restaurant. The food was food. It is cheap Sysco frozen food fried up at premium prices. The wait staff did not seem to enjoy what they were doing, just sort of going through the motions. They were very friendly, but away from the tables they looked whipped. The owner, I think her name was Debbie (she never introduced herself) really seemed to be non-plussed that we were staying there, eating her food, and renting her rafts. What The Galice Resort has in spades is Location, and they know it. I will probably go back and give them a second chance, but I will always know, there other places to eat and rent rafts in Merlin. read more

My husband and I started a tradition over 15 years ago, where we ride our motorcycle out to Galice resort on Sundays for breakfast. We have taken family and friends out there several times over the years, because it was such an amazing place. Unfortunately, we just returned from the worst experience ever and won't be going back. When we arrived, there were only 2 other couples seated. We took our seat and waited and waited for someone to even acknowledge our presence. In the meantime, several other parties showed up. After about 10 minutes, a young man, looked to be about 14, started running around passing out menus. We still didn't get them, nor were we asked if we wanted any. Finally a waitress appeared and began taking beverage orders...starting at the other side of the porch and working our way to us...last, where she took our drink order and left menus. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary and I ordered coffee. Sometime later, we finally got our drinks and she took our breakfast order. I asked for cream and sugar for my coffee. Sometime later she returned with them...but we didn't have flatware, so I asked for that. Then a woman from the kitchen came out and started tossing napkins and flatware on everyone's table. Then about 10 minutes later, she came around with everyone's water. When I finally got to drink my coffee, it was tasteless, like it had been watered down. Knowing that their coffee is usually fabulous, I asked for a new cup and it was just as bad. When our breakfast finally arrived over 30 minutes after placing our order, the potatoes that were advertised to be made with peppers and onions only had one piece of onion and pepper on each of our plates. We then waited at least 15 minutes for our ticket and ended up going inside to retrieve it from our waitress. Then had to wait at the register several minutes before someone came to take our money. As I was complaining to the waitress how awful our experience was, a woman came up behind her, listened for a few minutes, then walked away. I have since learned it was the owner. We also were charged $10 for the Bloody Mary that was priced as $6.99 on the menu. We truly looked forward to our Sunday ritual of riding out to Galice to enjoy the river, wildlife and food. We have never had a bad experience. Even on Mother's Day when the place was packed, it was great. Perhaps if the owner would have said something to explain or apologize for what we experienced, we probably would be going back, but sadly she didn't, so we won't. read more

I have been rafting near this place for the past 20+ years and every year I am stunned at how awful the service is here. The owner needs to wake up and train the staff. The food is decent but having to wait for a waitress that can only do one thing at a time, can't get an order straight from the beginning, nor can ring up the bill in a timely fashion is just not worth it anymore. read more

I used the shuttle service to shuttle my truck and trailer to Foster bar. When we arrived at foster bar there was a new gouge in the tailgate of my truck and my aluminum trailer had a mark on it. I contacted the resort and they sent me an e mail stating that they would look into it. After a couple of days I received another e mail that said the owner would contact me "soon". Two weeks later I emailed them again and this time they responded that I should call them. I left a message on their answering machine and a week later still no reply. Finally I was given someone's cell phone # to call and again left a message. Finally I received one final email stating that they talked to the shuttle driver and he stated that my truck and trailer had ever been jackknifed. And they thanked me for my business. read more

DO NOT USE FOR RIVER SHUTTLE!! In July of 2019 while my vehicle and boat trailer were "in storage" on Galice Resort property, my trailer (hitch locked with pad lock) was stolen off of my vehicle FROM GALICE RESORT PROPERTY. My vehicle was shuttled to Foster's Bar with no trailer-even though the signed contract indicated the presence of a trailer!!! (Imagine my family's take out with no trailer!! Surprise!) When I approached the owner of Galice Resort, Debbie Johnson (sp?), for help she was very cold, defensive and completely unwilling to even help me the cost, even partial cost, of replacing my trailer. After 25 years, often multiple trips per season, of bringing her thousands of dollars of business, "Sorry, but I can't be responsible for all the thieves in the world." was all she said to me. My boating tribe of Northern California has sworn her off and will never again use Galice Resort for a shuttle. Locked or not, your vehicle is not safe with them and clearly the management does not care about your experience with them--as long as you pay up front. Several other companies in the same neighborhood offer shuttle services and take responsibility for their actions. Pull your head out Debbie!! read more

Never felt so invisible to wait staff, store employees, etc. Waited almost an hour for breakfast and there were more waitresses than customers. Had to really work to get noticed so we could order dinner. The staff would rather work on paperwork than turn around and notice a customer. They must have had training in how to walk around without making eye contact. Too Bad, the place has great potential and was very busy. read more

After rafting the Rogue I stayed in Cabin #4. The bed was comfy, the air conditioner worked, the room was attractive, the water hot, the towels abundant an soft, and my night was very quiet. A great place to clean up and rest before the long drive home. read more

6/8/12 Had a romantic date planned for friday night. I took her to the GR to have dinner and a few drinks and hang out on the deck overlooking the river, etc. Got there at 7:30 and we sat at a table for 20 minutes and realized GR was closed. I was there, by myself, the week before and sat out on the deck and listened to a band and wished my girlfriend was with me. No apparent reason to be closed. I have a small business and I talk about the big corporations that are changing our country and how small businesses have better work ethics etc but places like this are disproving my belief system. This is quite a trip for most people and to just close arbitrarily on a Friday night is embarrassing. People make fun of us out here because of dipsh!ts like this. read more

I was introduced to Galice Resort back in 2004 when a friend organized a rafting group and rented rafting gear through them. If you had asked me to review this place in 2004 I probably would have given them 5 stars, but over the years I have become more and more disatissfied with their gear and their service. This place is all about quantity and not quality. It's about taking your money and dumping you on the river as fast as they can. They seem to hire a lot of seasonal high shcoolers for the summer and they really have no clue about driving the vans or handling the gear. The staff at the counter has always been pleasant. The food in the restaurant is decent, a little pricey, but it seems like their food has improved over the years. I have never rented a cottage from them so I can't tell you what those are like. I can tell you that they do charge for every little thing when it comes to renting their rafting gear. We used to rent rafting gear from them every summer until we found a different company to rent from. If you have a big group of people then the prices are not too bad... read more

I live here in Oregon and have had about three awful experiences with Galice Resort. It used to be a tradition to go rafting thru them after my husband left the Marine Corps. Let me just start by saying that they charge far too much for everything in their little store, too much for raft rentals, the food is as if you asked your teenager and their friends to try to cook you a gourmet meal, tasteless, and high priced for lowest quality food. If you decide to raft on your own don't think Galice resort will help you catch a ride to your car with your children, they feel you should pay 25.00 a person to catch a ride with them. One small Hershey's candy bar in their store is 1.75. It is unbelievable. The workers ask customers for marijuana, they are loaded (high as a kite) when they take you in their vehicle to drop you and the boat off. The last draw of bad experiences was last summer my child and I needed to get back to our car. the Galice owners niece tried to charge this time 40.00 per head to catch a ride with them. I bought my own raft that year to save money and not pay the ridiculous price from galice and wanted to safely drive my child to the boat ramp, I don't get stoned, anyway I said "Wow, ok then can I please use your phone, I didn't bring money or a wallet on the river, I have no change to call someone to come help me and my daughter? The girls reply was "Sorry I'm the owners niece and I can't let you use the phone!" two nice lady's standing there were upset at the young girl and gave us a ride. So all n all I do not recommend galice, it is not family orientated, the food is not good, the staff is rude and intoxicated, and the the prices are too high. By the way I should not have had to be put in the predicament of catching a ride from two strangers with my daughter, Galice makes a killing my one phone call definitely would not have bent their dime at all. read more

I would not recommend the galice "resort" to anyone who is not spending much time in the immediate area. As far as the cabins are concerned, I would not stay in them unless you were looking for a ghost hunting adventure. The walls were covered with pictures of 100 year old gold miners that seemed to loom over you while you sleep. The bunk beds are paper thin and not large enough to comfortably sleep an adult. The wool blankets and itchy sheets also made for an uncomfortable sleep. However my biggest complaint of the cabin is the lack of amenities. There was a mini fridge, but not a microwave or even a hot plate, so unless you want to drive 20 minutes to grants pass to have something to eat you are sort of forced to eat at the diner. The area where the resort is located isn't even that breath taking. The water on the rogue river is incredibly slow moving and almost feels stagnant when you're near it, and other than that there isn't much to see around the galice resort. So if you ask me I'd say you should look for lodging somewhere else. Don't waste your money. read more
