We had an amazing brunch at Gallo Blanco and were impressed by every aspect of the experience. The venue, service, atmosphere, food, and drinks were all fantastic. The layout of the restaurant is really unique. There's a coffee bar on one end, a full bar on the other, and a mix of tables and booths in between. The walls are covered with artwork from local artists, and during our visit they were featuring Abe Zucca's work, which was absolutely stunning. There's also a patio with misters that help keep the outdoor seating comfortable even on warmer days. The drinks were surprisingly affordable compared to many other brunch spots around town. We ordered the Chelada (Tecate, house bloody mix, Tajín, and lime) and the Chilango (Tecate, Tajín, and lime), and both were refreshing and delicious. For appetizers, we tried the Envuelto, and it was incredible. The al pastor folded inside melted queso Chihuahua with pineapple, chile toreado, cebollita asada, and corn tortillas created an explosion of flavor. Easily one of the highlights of the meal. For our entrees, I ordered the biscuits and chorizo gravy with eggs over medium on top, while my wife had the Burrito del Mar. The chorizo gravy was absolutely to die for--rich, flavorful, and perfectly complemented by the eggs and biscuit. Every bite was fantastic. We couldn't leave without dessert, so we ordered the churros. The two freshly made churros arrived coated in cinnamon and sugar and were served with goat milk cajeta, chocolate fudge, and lechera for dipping. All three sauces were great, but the goat milk cajeta was easily my favorite. Service throughout the meal was fast, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. Parking is limited to street parking since there's no dedicated lot, but it's well worth the effort. Another bonus is that brunch is served until 4 PM, while the lunch and dinner menu is available all day. Gallo Blanco exceeded our expectations, and there are still so many menu items we'd love to try. We'll definitely be back. read more

I've had a soft spot for this place for years. Tucked into the Garfield District, Gallo Blanco has that big-city, slightly self-aware "transcendent hipster" energy that somehow still works (lol). Started with the chips and guacamole, and this is saying something, because I usually avoid guacamole. Too often it tastes like green mayo wearing a sombrero. Not GB's though, it is chunky, spicy, killin'. Then came the tacos. Pork belly and fried fish. Gallo missed the mark this time. The pork belly was chewy when it should've surrendered. The fish had somehow misplaced its fish-ness, and the corn tortilla shells were too dry. But restaurants, like people, aren't defined by a single bad day. A slice of tres leches and a good pour of reposado put the evening back on track. And our bartender, whose name I can't remember was exceptional. I'll keep coming back to Gallo Blanco. They hit it out of the park far more often than they whiff. Stepping into this joint takes you out of the Phoenix heat and into the city's fire. read more

Dined-6.21.26: -Food-5 but had to knock a star for safety reasons. It's a cute restaurant antique building nestled in the middle of downtown homes. The issue was there are a couple dented warped floorboards on the way to the back room that tripped several people up (my aunt w/ a double knee surgery & myself included) but there's no heads up noted anywhere. Aside from the safety issue, the place is stocked with a variety of tequila and various delicious items on the menu. Everyone loved their food and enjoyed their cocktails & cafecito. Friendly servers. I had the breakfast burrito that comes with chorizo but I got al pastor with it. It was delicious and big enough I took 1/2 of it home. Their corn tortillas are so thick & tasty and taste homemade vs the processed ones you buy at the store. There were no other left overs, so safe to say my table was pleased with their eats! Stopped by during my visit to Phoenix and had a great experience. We went on a Thursday evening and were warmly greeted and seated right away. The ambiance has a darker, moodier vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Drinks were really good, I ordered the El Dorado with tequila, mango, guava, lime, chile and chamoy. I had the shrimp burrito. The grilled shrimp was flavorful. Our group also shared the guacamole and chips, which was the highlight for me. This is one of our favorite spots and we decided to celebrate our daughter's birthday here. We always Waymo because 1) I like their margaritas and 2) parking is tight The service is friendly and attentive- and they made sure our daughter felt special :). It was our first time here, and our server, Mini (not sure if I spelled that right) did such a fantastic job at making us feel right at home. She answered all of our questions, gave us great recommendations, and was extremely polite. We ordered the frijoles con queso, which was so flavorful (and a perfect appetizer), the New Mexican enchiladas, and the Bistec Tampequena. Everything was cooked to perfections. We picked this spot bc we have an Amex benefit. The hostess was super friendly and sat us right away. Our waitress was nice but forgot to refill our waters. The food came outright after the other which is great but we had a small table so it was tight. We got the monchito cocktail- my husband enjoyed the smokiness, I was hoping for more coconut flavor. The standout dish for me was the ceviche- the flavors were so good, although the amount of fish did seem little compared to the veggies and sauce. The guac was good and the accompanying salsas had a great spice. My shrimp and grits were ok- there was a smoky flavor that's not my favorite. They were able to put the chorizo on the side as I don't eat meat. My husband enjoyed his tampequena- he said it the steak was just right. We split the heuvos rancheros and got our own tacos (I had the Del mar and carne asade tacos). We also split the tres leches cake. My favorites were the Del Mar taco, the heuvos, and the cake. I thought the Del Mar taco had more flavor than the carne asade. I guess I could've added the salsa I was drenching the chips with to the carne asada, but I just ate it straight with the lime. The food was delicious! & as a vegetarian I'm usually limited in options but they had a decent selection for breakfast & lunch--much appreciated! A big group of us came here for lunch on a Friday. The host/waitress told us she'd set up a table for the 10 of us so we went to wait outside. She told us she'd come get us when it was ready. Stopped by over the weekend and loved eating at their patio. It was late in the afternoon so we got seated right away. Their patio is dog friendly which is always a plus. I was craving pozole and there's not many places where you can get this. The bowl was huge and tasty, I wished it had more pork. We also got the guacamole and the small one was a great portion. I went the other day and ordered the mango margarita, elote to share and three tacos - shrimp, pork belly and carne asada. The mango margarita was delicious; the mango puree was strong without tasting artificially sweet. Each taco has a unique and flavorful profile and they don't skimp on the protein. I particularly love the sweet / salty of the pork belly and the sauce on the shrimp. Three tacos is a filling meal! I also liked that the elote had good flavor and topping without being caked in mayo or cotija. My only complaint with our most recent visit was that the service was pretty slow. Pleasantly surprised that happy hour is every day from 3:00 to 6:00, and there house Margarita or skinny margarita is on the happy hour special for just $7! Wine and beer was $5 on happy hour. Reasonably extensive menu. I had the shrimp and grits, and it was excellent with plenty of shrimp and the the Shreiners chorizo was an added bonus. The La Bomba burrito was an upgrade to the standard Al Pastor and was a great twist on a classic. Two in our party ordered the salmon and we're very happy with it. So surprised by this place! Hadn't heard of it (which shame on me) and just decided to try off of Resy and was BLOWN AWAY. Has been a while since I've been so caught off guard by such delicious food. Learned that so many of their ingredients are local, the simple syrup and juices for the margs are homemade/freshly squeezed. The quality was just so apparent and the flavors were incredible. We visited Phoenix last month, and my daughter said she knew of a place that served really good tacos (She always finds the coolest places to take us). We happened to arrive at, "The Gallos" in the late-late afternoon. (That's not its real nickname, but calling it that--if you pronounce it like an American--gives me incredible levels of street cred, right?) So anyways, we hit the joint during their happy hour, so not only did we get treated to tasty tacos and flavorful adult beverages, but we also got the bonus deal of getting them at discount prices! (I'm the frugal one in our family, so any kind of a deal is a bonus, "Woo hoo!" for me). Our waitress was exceptional in that she had all the qualities that one would hope for from a server. She had a sincere friendliness about her; she was tuned-in to our needs (eg: not only did she bring us a bowl-full of replacement chips without our asking. She also gave us "the inside scoop" on the menu by being willing to share her personal favorites after I asked which ones would she pick if ever it would happen to be the last time she could eat there. She pointed us in the direction of the El Pastor and the Compechano tacos. My wife ordered them and allowed me a nibble. Both were exquisite. Our waitress also handled the numerous tables that she was hosting with the skill of one of those Chinese plate spinning acts--making us all feel welcomed, cared for, and appreciated. The food came after what felt like a perfect wait time (long enough to munch on some chips, enjoy the ambiance and vibe of the place, sip on some tequila-based cocktails, and chit chat before occupying our time filling our faces with food. I ordered the happy hour burger (*and with that, there goes my street cred- who the F orders a burger in a Mexican restaurant? I know, I know--stupid rookie gringo move. But I had been craving a burger for a few days prior and despite the dining faux pas, I went for it. It hit the spot, so shut yo mouf.) I'll finish this section about their food, by also sharing that the slightly thicker fried tortilla chips that they serve here are really good. I'm not sure exactly why they are better than average, but they just are. I liked the over-all decor, the furniture, and the art that is hung up in this place. It has a slightly trendy, easy-going, welcoming, good-vibes energy. The rooms are filled with the rich colors and artistic stylings / themes of Mexico. Who-ever decorated this place is probably on the "hipper" side of the bell curve in the population of those who furnish and accessorize spaces. As the afternoon was turning to early-evening, the place was on the front edge of its dinner rush (starting to fill up, but not yet crowded--as it would become as we headed out). Despite the quickly-shrinking number of available tables, we could still carry on a conversation. Regional Mexican music played as the soundtrack our enjoyable dining experience. (We went to a Diamondback game after this, and then drove back home to Tucson--a good, memorable evening). I left Gallo Blanco satisfied on many levels...and plan to return. read more

Out of this world experience. I was visiting from out of town and I told my friend I wanted Chilaquiles and she said I know a place. Came here on Father's Day and it was busy but the service didn't lack at all. The walls were covered in amazing local art work and the seating was comfy. I will say it was a bit loud, but you can still hold a convo. The chilaquiles were the best I've ever tasted in the US. The portions and flavors were perfect. My friend got the wet tamale and devoured it. Her partner got an omelette I think? The tequila mango drink I got was divine and the beer was cold. Hands down would come back again!! Our waitress was really cool in helping us get to know the menu. The food and margarita were delicious. Ordering of the happy hour menu was a great choice. I ordered one of the margaritas, 2 pork belly tacos (my favorite), 1 fish taco, and 1 barbacoa taco. All were delicious. I had never had a blue corn tortilla shell before. When the plate was placed in front of me, for some reason looking at the shells I expected them to be crispy, but the texture was that of a white or yellow corn tortilla shell. I liked it. One of my favorite Mexican places in the valley to take friends and family! Gallo Blanco is underrated. Their homemade chips and guacamole are fantastic-- the chips are thick and flavorful and the guac and salsas are so fresh! One of my favorite things to share is the taco plate. It comes on a sizzling platter with choice of 2 meats, 6 blue corn tortillas and some accompaniments. This is usually enough for 3 people. My recent favorites have been the beer battered crispy fish, grilled shrimp and barbacoa. Their drinks are also super good-- I've had a classic margarita, mezcal margarita, michelada, sangria and coffee drinks. All were great! I enjoy eating both inside and outside; they have two patios. Service is always warm, friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend Gallo Blanco! In fact, my mother in law said it's her favorite restaurant. EVER. And she's traveled a lot! read more

This place was SO SO good. I went on a Tuesday night after work. We had a rez but it wasn't too packed. We were seated immediately. There were ample free parking along the street near the restaurant. The chips were incredible - you can tell they are home made and made very well! The green and red salsa complimented the chips well. We ordered the guacamole and it was made with hints of orange - which was amazing!! I ordered the horchata because I always need to have horchata at Mexican restaurants! It was thick and cinnamon-y and good! It could have been chilled a little more before serving. I ordered three tacos - two carne asada and 1 pork belly. All of them were delicious. I've been to Gallo Blanco twice before but never taken a seat and I wish I had done so sooner. The ambiance is great, the food is yummy and the service was spectacular I came in on a Saturday evening around 5pm and it wasn't too busy though I know it can be sometimes! I was greeted as I walked in, I was given a choice of where I wanted to sit which I greatly appreciated! I chose to sit at the bar and upon sitting down I immediately was poured a glass of water and the bartenders are hyper aware that they noticed I stopped looking at the menu and came over to greet me. I thought that was *chefs kiss*. I ordered the chicken flautas which are essentially a rolled chicken taco and deep fried. I also ordered a Picosso that has blanco tequila with some SPICY Fresno chilis. I'm telling you, ITS SPICY! the bartenders were super and kind and my food came out in about 5 mins which took me by surprise! I did not think it would be that quick. It wasn't hot to touch but it was pleasantly warm to where you didn't feel like it was sitting out waiting to be plated out. The only caveat to this place are the FLIES! there are flies everywhere and they're quite annoying. They do have fly "fans" if that's what you even call them (?) on the counters and at some tables. It does help but it did bug me a little bit (literally!) I had to bother the waitress to bring two fans on each side of me- the one didn't help very much. Anyway, I do recommend this restaurant, you do see all types of people here which I love! It tells me people feel welcome and I noticed people bring a party! They cater to large groups and they handle it well. Would def come back for a sit down- probably with a friend next time! P.S: parking will be a hassle! It's in a neighborhood of homes so you have to parallel park on the streets outside the restaurant. It is very limited so I suggest you carpool. They do have reserved parking at the back of the restaurant. Another update: Christian, one of the managers had come up to me asking about my visit (not knowing I'm writing a review) talking about the fly situation and they brought it up to the GM trying to get it handled. Took a friend here for her birthday on a Saturday night and sat at the bar since it was last minute and didn't have reservations. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Even the neighborhood it's located in is so cute. Parking was easy to find. I don't know how weekdays are but if you're going Friday or Saturday I recommend making a reservation unless you want to wait 40+ minutes for a taken luckily there were 2 open spots at the bar so we didn't need to wait. Who ever thought that oranges in guacamole would taste sooo good. What rock have I been living under? I may or may not have wanted to lick the bowl. But I was in public. So I refrained. Indeed the chilaquiles with barbacoa. They have their food well labeled and it's easy to figure out what I gf or even Veg. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros. There was so much barbacoa my meal. It was so good. From the first bite I was impressed with the balance of the meal. The huevos were really good. The thicker tortillas made it a little drier. He was happy without meat. 2nd time I've been here, 2 years later, same friends! Whenever my bestie comes into town, we make it to Welcome Diner, which is one of her fav Phoenix places. Twice now, we end up here at Gallo Blanco since it's right across the street. They seem to have a fun, fancy twist on some of their dishes. I'm sorry if I sound like a novice, it seems like they have a fan following, so I'm not sure they're exact concept. Both experiences, I've enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and especially the service. The people here are always really nice! The portions are a great size! This time, I tried for the first time in my life, a torta! Game changer! I'm obsessed now, and now I'll be ordering tortas every chance I get! My one and only not so positive feedback is how hot it is inside, when the phoenix heat is at its highest.
