Italian Head Cheese and a few American slices because why not
    Dorothy D.

After living in San Leandro for nearly 30 years, I finally stepped inside Galvin's Market and I am so glad I did. I have driven past it countless times without stopping, but this place is truly a hidden gem. From the moment you walk in, it feels inviting: clean, bright, and well organized. They have everything from meats, seafood, cheeses, and pastas to sandwiches and specialty groceries. There is also free parking in the back (90 minutes), which makes the visit stress-free. On this visit, I picked up a little bit of everything: The Hot Salami Sandwich (see photo) was incredible. Piled high with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar, and oregano. The oregano sealed the deal. It was one of the best sandwiches I have had in years. Cheese counter. They stock amazing selections such as Midnight Moon, Goat Gouda, and Prosciutto di Parma. I also grabbed a slice of Italian head cheese (photo). It was not quite as bold as the souse meat I grew up with, but it is delicious with crackers. Smoked Salmon. Sourced from Alaska, melt-in-your-mouth fresh and flavorful (photo included). You can tell they take seafood seriously. Mary's Organic Chicken Wings. The real MVP of my haul. I was thrilled to get two pounds of all flats (photo before and after cooking). I baked them at home, and they came out crispy, flavorful, and juicy. The aisles were stocked with pastas, sauces, and pantry goods, making it feel like a one-stop shop for both everyday items and specialty finds. Between the quality of the food, the thoughtful touches such as honoring my all-flats wing request, and the genuine neighborhood market vibe, Galvin's has officially earned a spot on my regular rotation. If you are in San Leandro and have not stopped by yet, do yourself a favor. Whether you are grabbing lunch, stocking up on meats and seafood, or exploring the cheese counter, Galvin's Market is worth the trip. Highly recommend!

Sandwiches - 5 Service - 5 I'd say Galvans has the best sandwiches in San Leandro / or they definitely take it in our neighborhood. Thanks Team Galvans! Keep up the great work.

These are the most amazing sandwiches in the area. Everything is fresh and the employees are nice. It was a little warm inside and it feels a little crowded with very few customers but is nothing too bad. 10/10 food 10/10 service 9/10 ambiance,

Being the Grandson of Spanish immigrants from Estepona Spain, that initially settled for a bit to Hilo Hawaii before reaching California like many other Spanish families, my connection to all the is Spanish is on high alert. Well that is of course when my Italian heritage is not calling me or pulling me into an Italian Deli, let's just say that! :) If you have ever entered the heavenly delights of an Italian Deli, you understand all the heavenly native Italian food smells in the air, right? Well at Galvan market, this is pretty close to that. The similarity between Spanish and Italian food is unmistakable, along with our cultures and love of family and great food and wine...Buen Provecho- Mangia Mangia! :) Okay now that we have that all out in the open and off my chest...lets move on shall we. I have been hearing about Galvan market in San Leandro for years. I was reminded again a few time by the posts of Mike Munoz of the Hawaiian Spaniard page on FB, where I remain as one of the administrators. Also in talking to Mike about this place, he is just as proud due to his childhood years and that of his family in lovely San Leandro. I always knew for sure, this someday this would be a must visit on my list. Not living on this side of the bay, the opportunity is not as plentiful, but since I was already there today, I figured, hey no time like the present. I was but a jump away from 1275 Mac Arthur Blvd in San Leandro where they are located. The owner Joe Galvan, a Spanish American whose family on both sides hails from Spain is very proud of his raices (heritage) and what his store brings to the community. He is a very friendly and helpful owner. You can tell he really cares about not only his presentation and business and placing the customer first. It takes a special type of person to be able to serve the public with patience and kindness. He has that magic with people. You will find Spanish products from Spain. These would include some of the finest cheeses and chorizos, hams, saffron, pimenton, spices, an array of Spanish olive. So again this is just to name a few. And when you are talking about a fine Malaga wine, like Moscatel, he has it here !! But it does not just stop there, you will also find many other delicacies such as the Spanish almond Turron..every true Spaniard loves a great turron!! You need to come visit the store while you are in the area. And oh man, he has a smoker in the back where he smokes up beef tri tips..the smell in the air is a little bit of heaven! Not only will you find Spanish products here, but you will find products of our near Mediterranean brothers, such as products from Italy and Greece and Portugal. This place was a heaven send today, when this partial Spaniard was looking to connect with culture and the native foods of that land, and of course of the neighbors lands next door. Next time you are in San Leandro or even close, make a stop on over to Galvan Market, you will be happy you did! Viva España!!

C & H Meat is inside Lake Chabot Public Market and there are a few restaurants in there as well. We looked around at what they had to offer and got what we wanted. Brisket at C&H Meat is a 100x better in terms of flavor and quality for the same price compared to 99 Ranch - $12.99/lb. They have a pretty cool market section that includes craft beer and basic refrigerated/frozen korean goods on the left wall. There is also a small produce section to the left of the butcher counter - not the freshest produce I would say, but not bad if you need to grab something like soybean sprouts and don't want to make another stop. I'd recommend you come here earlier in the day as they do run out of meats towards closing time. Went about 1.5 hours before closing on a Saturday and they were practically cleared out on meats.

I got the Tom Yum broth, and asked for a side of white rice which is free. The broth was super tart and flavorful, like mama noodles which I love. There were ingredients that you'd typically see at hot pot spots like beef, lamb, spam, tofu for proteins, and spinach, cabbage, corn, etc. for veggies. Lots of noodle options, and the sauce bar, although small, I really enjoyed the sesame sauce, house chili, and the spicy garlic sauce. They even have perfectly medium-cooked fried eggs that I felt went well with the tom yum broth. We were conservative with our ingredients because we didn't want to accidentally have a $40 bowl of soup, but we were under the minimum so we had to add a few more to get it to 0.80 ounces. At that minimum, our bowls were a very reasonable $13. The only con is that it's a bit small inside so I can see it getting annoying on busy weekends especially as people crowd around to choose ingredients. Luckily on a weekday late lunch it was pretty dead. Other small con is water is served in small paper cups so we had to ask for refills often. Small gripe but with spicy soup, water is needed and in large quantities to offset some of the spiciness. Service was amazing, prompt and friendly. Overall, solid spot and glad we got to try it!

Basically, you walk in, grab a bowl, and pick out whatever meats, veggies, noodles, etc. you want. Then you bring it to the counter, they weigh it, and that's how they charge you. I've always been kind of hesitant to try one because I was scared I'd end up with a $20+ bowl by accident. I was excited to see that Master Gua Malatang & BBQ opened up near me, so I finally gave it a shot. They charge $14.99 per pound with a minimum of 0.80 lbs, which honestly isn't bad. I tried to be smart and picked mostly light stuff like spinach, sprouts, and tofu. I avoided heavier stuff like corn on the cob or beef balls. When I went to weigh it, my bowl came out to 0.65 lbs, so I went back and added a little more meat and veggies to hit 0.85. My total came out under $13, which is a great deal for how filling it was. I got the satay broth, which is beef, shrimp, and fish-based with a peanutty flavor. It wasn't fishy at all, which I appreciated. My partner got the tom yum broth and I thought it tasted just like Mama brand instant noodles, in a good way. You also get a side of white rice with your soup, but you have to ask for it. Meat options were beef, lamb, and pork belly. Only downside is that all the meats are kind of fatty. Also, they give you tiny paper water cups. If they're gonna do that, they really need to have a self-serve water station or just give people bigger cups so you don't have to keep asking for refills. The service was great though. The lady working was super friendly and helpful. If you're worried about the price, I recommend just filling your bowl with what you think you'll eat, weighing it, and then adding more if you need to meet the minimum. They also have a sauce bar so you can make your own dipping sauce, but it would be cool if they put out some suggested combos for people who don't know what to mix. Overall, I'll definitely be back. This place is perfect for a quick, comforting meal especially if you're nursing a hangover.
