On the last day that my little cousin was here to visit, we decided to do kbbq at home. I always love going down to the Koreana Plaza in Downtown Oakland to get meat for our hot pot or kbbq, but I wasn't able to go this time to get it, so I looked around Yelp in hopes that there was something nearby that we can go get meat from. I ended up stumbling upon C & H Meat and read their reviews and seen some pictures so I thought we'll give it a try. C & H Meat is inside Lake Chabot Public Market and there are a few restaurants in there as well. We looked around at what they had to offer and got what we wanted. They already have them prepackaged, so that was nice. I forgot what kind of meats we got but everything was just delicious! I'm glad that there is a place closer by in case we do last minute hot pot or kbbq. Will be back here again in the future. read more

Love that there is a closer place to get Korean meats and basic items without having to drive all the way out to Oakland or the H Marts in San Jose. Bulgogi and Chadol Baegi (thin sliced beef brisket - a staple at KBBQ restaurants) are excellent. I used to have to get the thin sliced beef eye round at 99 Ranch if I wanted to KBBQ at home. Brisket at C&H Meat is a 100x better in terms of flavor and quality for the same price compared to 99 Ranch - $12.99/lb. They have a pretty cool market section that includes craft beer and basic refrigerated/frozen korean goods on the left wall. There is also a small produce section to the left of the butcher counter - not the freshest produce I would say, but not bad if you need to grab something like soybean sprouts and don't want to make another stop. I'd recommend you come here earlier in the day as they do run out of meats towards closing time. Went about 1.5 hours before closing on a Saturday and they were practically cleared out on meats. read more

Decided to do KBBQ at home, so I stopped by this spot in the Lake Chabot Public Market to get some meat and produce. The meats were all packaged already by weight (2+ lbs), but the guy was nice enough to let me do smaller portions as I only wanted 1 pound of the porky belly, 1 pound of the marinated LA kalbi, and 1 pound of pork jowl (cheek). I also picked up lettuce, shishito peppers, a tub of radish kimchi, radish wraps, and ssamjang (KBBQ dipping sauce). The price is pretty comparable to meats at Ranch 99, but the quality is so much better. Highly recommend stopping by for your KBBQ needs! read more

It's amazing that they offer an array of Korean products, dishes, and good quality meat. I love how clean and easy it was to shop for everything I needed for kbbq. It's been hard to go to hmart or a Korean supermarket especially with the COVID pandemic happening. I love that the employees are so helpful and attentive. Definitely love the way they have everything displayed and you can ask the staff for recommendations. It's a great neighborhood grocery spot to get necessities. I personally don't mind their prices especially since I know the closest Korean supermarket is all the way in Oakland. I'd much rather stop by and get meat for kbbq from here. read more

I was looking for a place where they sell prime rib roasts and came upon the listing for C & H Meat. It's in a building where there are other businesses (boba tea, ramen and poke bowls). They had a decent selection of meat along with Korean marinated meat which is great. They didn't have the prime rib roast cuts but I got some bulgogi to try, and when I was paying I saw the menu for their burritos. I decide to order one, short rib burrito, and it was an extra $3. I get home, I cut it in half since it was so big, and when I started eating it there was hardly any meat in it. I only see two small pieces of short rib in the half I'm eating. I gave the other half to my husband and he also only found a couple small pieces of short rib. It looked like they only put two small slices of short rib in the burrito. So I mostly got a veggie burrito for the extra $3. Ripoff... If I go again I'll just stick to the meat counter. At least I can see what I'm getting whereas the deli, unless you're watching them, will rip you off. read more

Fresh meat! (Literally can imagine them saying this like how 85 degree bakery says 'fresh bread!'). From chicken to beef and pre-marinated items, you have a large assortment of choices, all very fresh. My favorite is their Thai Chicken Sausage & Homemade Chicken Apple Sausage (both 6.99 per lb). this place is really fair priced and good quality. I always get their ground chicken. They don't sell it behind the case anymore. You need to preorder it. It's kind of a hassle to have to plan ahead and call the day before but what I like about it, is that you know it's ground fresh and not sitting around. The ground chicken is about $4/lb so much cheaper than the local supermarket and much better with less fatty fillers! We love the quality meat. read more

Yes yes, the kbbq meat is excellent. The steaks and sausage are good too... but this review is about their shabu shabu meat. They have both fatty & lean cuts, sliced perfectly thin for hot pot. For a smaller shop, the prices are pretty reasonable. I like how they have all the Asian cuts so I don't have to drive to San Leandro and beyond to get them. Often, they'll have specials where some of the meat is reduced, up to 50% off. That's a steal. I also like to get all the other goods like the refrigerated Korean noodles, side dishes, ramen, and specialty drinks. So glad this place is in CV. read more

The renovated Lake Chabot Public Market is still in progress, but they already started opening shop beginning with this wonderful meat market! It's great to have this small but quality meat market finally open in our neighborhood! The folks at the counter are very friendly and helpful. On my first visit, they gave me a walk through of their selection, including tips on how to cook them properly. I chose the marinated lamb and meat loaf, and they even wrote the cooking directions on the bag. Rushed home to grill the lamb while the kids had an impromptu meatball-making session. I was rewarded with a tender, juicy and absolutely scrumptious dinner! (See pic for proof!) Today, I'm going to try their special Korean beef short ribs, "Oakland" style. Can't wait to fire up the grill and get this yummy in my tummy! There's still some construction for the other stalls, but I'm really looking forward to coming back for more! read more

Summary: a serious gem in the sea of mediocre Safeway / Trader Joe's meat purveyors serving up quality and service and all of the meat cuts you could be looking for After spending nearly 3 years only a few mile from Kukje Market in Daly City, I was so sad to move to Castro Valley and have to plan long treks to either Koreana Market in Oakland or any of the Korean markets in Santa Clara to get what I considered basic cuts of meat. Trader Joe's ain't carrying no beef brisket and bones for your basic bone broths and soups! When I found out Lake Chabot Public Market was open last year, I scurried over with hope in my heart. Lo and behold, I wanted to cry with joy when I saw the refrigerated meat case with those familiar white styrofoam trays wrapped in plastic wrap. The impossibly thin cuts of rib eye, hearty slices of pork belly, and hunky cross-bone slabs of short rib winked at me. This was the day that I was finally content to be living in Castro Valley. I wanted to buy 2 of everything. But I knew my freezer couldn't handle it. And why should it, when C & H Meat is only a 5 minute drive from home? My friends. I'm not just talking about convenient Korean meats. I'm talking about GOOD meat. Once, in a pinch, I saw some sad looking ox tails at Pacific Supermaket or Safeway... I can't remember. Or maybe I tried to erase the source, because it was scraggly pathetic little chunks of flesh wrapped around a dirty-looking bone. Needless to say, my oxtail soup would have made my grandma embarrassed of me. But then, I saw oxtail at C&H Meat Co. And I made my husband so happy and proud when I served him the best oxtail soup, I've ever made. I kid you not: the best kalbi meat I've ever enjoyed in a home was the thick custom cut short rib meat I brought home from here last summer. And this after nearly 30 years of eating kalbi at all kinds of homes. We had invited some friends over for a Korean BBQ dinner and were hoping to treat them to some kalbi (marinated Korean short ribs). I had seen kalbi cuts of meat here previously, but the day I arrived, there was nothing left in the case. When I asked, they said they didn't have anything prepared, but they could help me out by cutting something just for me. A friendly butcher came out from the back and asked if boneless short rib meat would be okay. Since we were going to grill the meat table top, this worked even better for me! He asked me how thin I wanted it the meat cut and went back to make the magic happen. My new butcher friend showed me the thickness of the meat cut and wrapped up my bundle of joy. Since the meat cut was a bit thick, we decided to grill the meat unseasoned. And wow. It was so good that it needed no marinade. It was like steak. But more marbled. And with the right amount of char. It was perhaps even better than steak. I could go on and on. But needless to say, it's always a treat when I come buy meat from here. I have to confess I've only bought the cuts of meat I use for Korean food, but considering the quality of the meat I've had from here so far, I certainly anticipate making this my main meat provider. I only wish that they could fill the refrigerated deli cases in the back with Kimchi or Korean produce or ANY produce, so I can make this my one stop shop. We have a friend in the restaurant industry in Oakland who let us know that C&H is the main meat distributor for the majority of Korean restaurants in the Bay Area. If the restaurants are buying from here, then you know the meat's good. :) read more

I am very picky about the taste of my meat and beef is the most difficult thing to find good stock of around here. Any supermarket I've tried has left me incredibly disappointed at the flavor, tenderness and overall quality of the meat I've purchased over the years. Ive been looking for a good butcher shop for a long time and finally found one. So far I've qued up a full size packer brisket and a few ribeyes from this shop and i have a couple pork butts sitting in the fridge for tomorrow and I've been amazed at the quality I've gotten out of c&h meats so far. The brisket was amazing but that's a slow cook so it's hard to make an accurate assessment based solely on something like that. The real test came last night with a fire grilled set of ribeyes. Oh my God those things were delicious! Nothing but a little olive oil to hold the simple salt and pepper rub and 5 minutes on each side to sear them to perfection. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, flavorful, had the perfect amount of marbling and the taste was really off the charts. Not that crappy half-rotten flavor you get at Safeway or other supermarkets. Nearly melted in my mouth. Its difficult finding good meat. But as it goes, I'll be trusting c&h with my families bbq needs going forward and will be sampling their other offerings as time moves on. read more

We have tried all of the homemade sausages. Favorites are Thai Chicken, Apple Chicken & Breakfast Sausage. The Chorizo was tasty and very lean. It's nice to enjoy sausage without getting a lingering headache from msg & other additives! Definitely getting all my sausage here. Just a quick update. We bought another rib roast from C & H Meat (this time it was USDA Choice), and it was SO GOOD! It was tender, moist, and had great flavor. I buy meat all over the Bay Area (it's kind of an obsession), including Pape Meat in Millbrae and Ver Brugge in Oakland. C & H is now my "go to" spot. read more
