I came for dinner and for lunch and overall had good experiences. This is a nice restaurant within the Kimpton and the overall interior and location feel upscale.
Only disappointing thing was the menu on the hotel's website was seemingly out of date, as when you decide what you want before you go then that's not an option, it's a bit disappointing but not the restaurant's fault they updated.
I went with the 2 courses for £25 which seemed like a good price for what seems like a higher end restaurant. The food came with a nice soft bread. The grilled chicken entrée I got had perfectly grilled and moist chicken, but the toppings on the chicken tasted fine, just looked a little mossy. My husband got a steak which was pretty expensive but cooked perfectly. We added a side of broccoli which was nice.
The whipped cheesecake with strawberries dessert came "deconstructed" which could have been an aesthetic choice or it could have been decided that small piles of ingredients is cheaper because then it spreads thinner the ingredients. It tasted nice but I prefer cheesecake stacked together in a slice.
For breakfast, as a hotel guest it was included and great, but it was pretty expensive to get a la carte. There are hot entrees and a breakfast buffet bar that includes fruit, pastries, muesli, meat and cheese slices, and juice options. Definitely a nice accompaniment for the hot egg dishes.
The service was always impeccable. I would recommend adding in breakfast if staying at hotel, but it's a little expensive on its own. I do wish the menu was updated on the website (Galvin's own website does not have a menu either). So that keeps it at a 4 instead of a 5 for me. Still the 2 or 3 course pre-theatre menu does have some good options if you want something fancy but light courses. read more
