I would like to thank the staff that helped me today return an used Xbox One controller that took forever to get in the mail, so I had to find a replacement. Luckily, I found a Kat Diaz special edition gears of war 5 controller for only an extra $15. Get this controller. It's unbelievable and feels great in your hands. Anyways, the staff would super helpful about it and totally understood the circumstances. Other GameStop I have been to would roll their eyes at my return. Not this store. The staff also tried their best to find rare games that I was looking for and tried to find them at nearby stores. We didn't find any of the games that I wanted, but I greatly appreciated the effort. Recently I have broken my PS4 and all GameStop's around the area have sold out. So the store clerk tells us you can buy one and get it shipped to your house. I thought yes finally I can get a new PS4. She assures me that it will arrive in 4-5 business days. Then she tells me that if I pay more it will arrive within 2-3. I agree to this wanting to get my PS4 as soon as possible. They send me an email about the order and I find out that is arriving on the 25 instead of the 23. I think oh it's okay that's not to long. Then I check again today and find out that it's arriving on October 3! How absurd is it that I pay extra to get my PS4 within 2-3 days and find out it's coming in 10 more days when it was supposed to come on September 23. Never ordering anything from that GameStop ever again. Service has always been pretty wack so no surprise there. read more

This place is just flat out a bad business. Been there 3 times and all three times they have been rude and really just clueless when it comes to customer service. I went in this last time, looking for a controller for the xBox 360 and found their little hanging boxes that you take to the counter to buy. Picked up a black one and went to pay. The girl behind the counter bluntly says "we don't have the black one". I ask if they have a white one? She says "Let me look". Does her search and comes up nothing. then proceeds to up-sell me on other controllers with crap i don't need or want. At this point I was getting pissed and rather tired of the employees condescending tone. I told the employee if you don't have the item in stock then it should not be on the floor to SELL. She promptly replied "Microsoft pays us to keep them up". You know what, if MS pays you to try to sell things you don't have then you don't need my money. Their attitude clearly shows they don't need my money. So this will be my last stop in this place. Amazon and any other retailer I am sure would be glad to do business in this economy. read more

I had a terrible experience with customer service today. I was turned away from trading in an Xbox series S and was treated like a criminal when being implied to leave the store. Apparently it's "policy" and when I asked for them to pull it up I was given the "I'm a manger" talk. I immediately called another GameStop and was given a very sincere and honest answer of how to proceed with the trade. So, I went to the Rohnert Park Gamestop, traded in the Series S and got a Series X right out of the back. I really hope that the Petaluma GameStop will be as good as the Rohnert Park one in the future. The total lack and disregard for customer questions is something that is holding Petaluma's GameStop Franchise back from being a place where gamers love to congregate. I hope that this review will give some insight on how customers are treated when trying to trade something in. read more

Since I've moved up to Petaluma, this has been my go-to place when it comes to getting console games. The selection they offer here is about on par with the average (or at least the average that I've personally seen) so I can usually find something worthwhile in stock. The employees I've dealt with here have all been friendly and helpful whenever I've had any questions, and I've never had any negative experiences with any of them. Literally the worst thing I've had to deal with was when one of the associates didn't think the coupon combination I was going to use would work (didn't say it definitely wouldn't, just that she thought one or two would counteract each other; more a warning than anything else). She still tried, they all worked, I was a happy customer, she was impressed I was able to find such an impressive combination of coupons. When I was having an issue with my PS4 (a refurb) they went out of there way to find another to replace it, going so far as to calling multiple other stores & securing my replacement for me (I still had to drive to Novato, but then the associate there was already waiting for me with everything good to go) Yeah, they have to make the pre-order offers that the make with every interaction (corporate rules & such) but it never feels pushy here, more like an actual honest question regarding what new games I might be looking forward to. They occasionally do midnight releases for games as well, and from my experiences with them they get managed pretty efficiently. It's in a secure enough location, and with the number of staff on hand & people there for the release, it feels comfortable. Lots of joking around & playing stuff during the wait, and regular updates so we didn't feel ignored. My only real complaint would be how busy they can get, and how crowded it gets when they're REALLY busy (holiday time). But everywhere gets busy during the holidays, so it all gets taken with a grain of salt. Anyway, the long & short of it (or, TL;DR) is: Friendly, helpful staff; good selection of products; clean store; extra events sometimes. Sign said if you bought a 3DS, you got a game for free. Not only did I have to ask for it, but was then told I could only have it if they had some in stock. Ummm, how bout you check your inventory, or take the sign down? In the end, they gave us a used copy. And just like the commercial says, don't even think about trying to sell your games. They offer almost no money, then jack the prices to re-sell them. Oh, and god forbid you don't spend all day in your mom's basement playing video games and know everything about every system. Been coming to this GameStop off and on more often because I am liking the staff there. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Just the other day, I went there to pick up a COD package set for the Xbox 360 that my family ordered and when we called, the order had just arrived. As we walked in, we started browsing the Xbox One used games. Within the first 30 seconds, Chrissy (Kristine per the receipt) came up to us and asked if we needed any help. Well, we let her have it :) We asked about the order and then I proceeded with several questions about some used Xbox One games. She nailed every question perfectly and took great care of my daughter I was there with. She was not only professional, but courteous too. We even came back in again after we had walked out and asked her another question that came to light after we walked out. It's embarrassing, so we won't go into details, but Chrissy took great care of us and we will always appreciate it. Good job GameStop and thank you Chrissy! read more

This store has always had issues with customer service and today was no exception. Gamestop has lost my business for good and you can thank the guy behind the counter at this store. He was not concerned with a poor google review or yelp review and continued to egg me on to leave one the entire time in the store, SOOOO! Here it is! and I'll be leaving one of these on google as well. In my attempt to sell a PS4 / PS4 Stand / and 4 games he asked to assist another customer, stating that "this is going to take some time" and then took a more than liberal amount of time with that customer (8 minutes). Finally, when I showed him what I had he declined to buy the PS4 without a controller stating company policy, fine, I'll sell it on Ebay (if share holders are wondering why they are loosing money with this company, this would be a PRIME example). He did not even take a look at the games or the stand and proceeded to turn his back on me walking away while talking, which I couldn't hear because he was walking away from me?!? This is when it went sour, I confronted him on his poor customer service and he proceeded to ARGUE with me that his customer service was GREAT and I was just having a bad day...???!!! REALLY GAMESTOP!!! You have got to be kidding me?! No apology, no compromise, ZERO HELP, and very poor customer service is what I got today and I refuse to shop here again. CHECK YOUR SECURITY FOOTAGE IF YOU THINK THIS IS BS! And just for the record he spent a grand total of 5 minutes with me as opposed to 8 minutes with the other customer who I WAS IN FRONT OF, I guess offering poor customer service really didn't take too much time at all. read more

Been going to EB Games since the 80's, then as they were absorbed/morphed into this joint. Here's the thing about Gamestop. Good selection (usually) and you basically have to sign up for their $15 special membership to make used games and trade-ins worthwhile. Otherwise, they're ripping you off by giving you three bucks for a game they sell for $19.99 used (or something along those lines). I've really come to enjoy my membership though, and my Game Informer issues...they have a fair number of promos like additional cash on your old system, extra trade in credits and so forth. If you work that silver member card and you do a fair bit of careful trading, it's worthwhile. There are MANY legitimate gripes about this place, however - bait & switch with free game promos and other corporate nonsense... But for what it is, Gamestop is a known quantity. Where else do you sit in line for hours to get the new console or game? C'mon, you know you love to hate to love them. read more

I came into the Petaluma, CA store on S. McDowell today around 11am with two of my students, who both have pretty severe autism. The associate was SO welcoming, and patient with myself and my students. I wish I could remember his name, but unfortunately the receipts went home with with my students. He was talkative with them, and treated them like any other customer. He went out of his way to help them find games in their (very low, and very picky) $5-$10 price range. It was clear that his attitude was not simply about making a sale but instead was about making these kids feel just as normal and welcomed as any other customer. I cannot thank this man enough. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it now, and recalling how happy and comfortable this man helped to make my students feel out in a public place, that could otherwise be very uncomfortable for them. It was an outstanding experience, and I will definitely feel confident in bringing my students back. It may seem like just a simple gesture to some, but to these kids it means the world. It is not everyday that they are able to go out in public not be stared at, but instead treated like just another human being. Seriously, thank you thank you thank you! This place is terrible. Pre-ordered a game for my son - $75 - came with extras for the price. The day it is released we go with our receipt to pick it up and it is what they call "gutted". That basically means one of the employees took it upon themselves to rip us off for all the extras that came with the game and it was the only copy in the store. They offered us 10% off for a disc in a white sleeve. Are you kidding me?!!? That means I would still be paying more then if I had purchased the game brand new still in the sealed package without the extras. But I must say we went to the Rohnert Park store and they were very helpful, took care of us. This isn't the first time something sketchy has happened to us in the Petaluma location. I think I've learned my lesson and will be shopping elsewhere from now on. read more

If there are no trade in promotions going on, then you get next to nothing for your trade ins. That's why I took 1 star away. This place is a good place to go and buy games. I, unlike the other Yelpers here, have always though that the customer service here was great and the people working there knew what they were doing. Maybe I am just lucky though... The one thing about this place, well not this place but all Gamestops is that it is way overpriced. You can get the same exact game unused, unopened on ebay or amazon for no joke, 50 bucks less. I think this is an A-OK place to buy a game, but not right for everyone. read more

Wish i could give this location 0 stars. The staff are all rude douchebags who act like their hot stuff. Sorry, whos the one working at a Video Game store taking my business? This is the only location where I have problems with the staff, they resell proven nonworking merchandise. I bought a DS game and returned it due to it not even being reconized in my DSi and they put it back on the shelf, how do i know? Cuz i went back in after grocery shopping at Safeway to see if they had a used copy that might work, and they had a copy, but it was the same copy i returned and complained about not working. Also bought a giftcard for christmas in 2011 and when the person i bought it for went in to use it, it wasnt even activated, and this being several months after christmas didn't have the receipt. The one guy who has crappy spiderman tattoos is the worse. Gives this attitude like your inconviencing him to just ring you up, sorry bro your the one working in customer service and retail, not our fault you hate your life. Safe to say I never purchase from this location anymore. Since I live in Petaluma this is where I return all used items that I don't like and I purchase at either Rohnert Park or Novato. I recently burnt out my 360's hard drive and made the switch over to PS3 and the staff was very helpful with setting me up with my new system and answering all the little quirky questions I had because I knew nothing about PS3s. Good news for anyone with an old broken game that they want to sell, these guys will more than likely buy it off you. I came here looking to get a used copy of nba, but left with disappointment more than once. It wasn't that they didn't have it, but every copy I bought didn't work. After returning it the first time I thought no big deal the second one surely has to work, but nope no such luck. So not only did I have to drive across town 3 times to get a used game for $20 that I knew I could get new on amazon for the same price, but after the second copy didn't work and I returned it for my money back they didn't seem to care at all that they were selling bad games. I asked them if they checked to make sure their games worked before they sold them and was told that not only did they not have a console to check them on but if they did check them they would "be here all night". Aren't you a game store that sells consoles? How hard is it really to throw a disc in and make sure it reads? Terrible experience, terrible customer service, will be happy to take my business elsewhere. read more
