I forgot the name of the guy who cut the wood but after, he made me and another woman take down his PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER and told us to text him if theres any problems. He then forced a hug on both of us. Would he do this with male customers? I highly doubt it. I called and left voicemails on the managers machines but never got a call back. Have been going to the Costa Mesa Ganahl Lumber for decades. It is THE BEST. Was happy (years ago) when Laguna Beach Lumber in Laguna Canyon became a Ganahl, because it meant they would be open on Saturday for us working folks -- no more driving all the way to Costa Mesa to get supplies for weekend projects. But, most often, still make the trip to Costa Mesa, because staff at the Laguna Beach store are so RUDE and UNHELPFUL to your average homeowner (or at least to the female ones of a certain age). However, in fairness, local contractors we know seem to like them, and say they get a lot of business through them. But, as a homeowner, I am so darned tired of their shabby treatment. Made the mistake of going in last week for some cabinet hinges (they were out of the needed size), and it was the same old, having to chase someone down, them looking annoyed, and then putting up with their abrupt and condescending attitude. Today, picked-up the hinges at the Costa Mesa store (in stock!), and had three offers of help before I was 20 feet into the store. It is hard to believe they are owned by the same company. Gave them one extra star because it is nice to have their product selection close by when you need it quickly. But, rarely, if ever, a pleasant experience. read more

Laguna Beach, Ca. I have been a customer since the 70's when the business was located downtown and known as Laguna Beach Lumber. I was friends with the owners and still have occasion to connect now and then. When Ganahl purchased the business, they accepted my account seamlessly, and I still have an account here. Now that I'm retired I don't go there often but it a great place to get hardware and paint and it is about a 2 minute drive from my house. I typically buy misc. electrical parts and small tools. I recently painted my house and bought the paint there and was impressed how close the computer can match up a color. The Benjamin Moore brand has been reliable for me. They have a great deal on windshield wiper washer fluid. You may have to ask someone to show you where it is. Great source of plumbing parts. I also go here for drill bits and saw blades. There is also a place to deposit used fluorescent tubes, you need to ask where to put them. I like the selection of brass and stainless screws. The stainless deck screws are reasonably priced. Great selection of moldings and trim. I believe custom milling is still available. Parking is easy and everyone is helpful. read more

Beware of the 15% re-stocking fee! I was repairing my deck and replacing over 30 percent of the wood. I was assured that the wood is returnable if there's any left. What I didn't told is that there is a 15% re-sticking fee. I suffer over $50 due to returning the un-used material. Ganahl needs to keep up the modern business practice to be compatibles. I returned the untouched material within 2 days. It puts a bad taste of buying from Ganahl. read more

We've been coming here since we moved nearby a few years ago. Having trouble understanding the one star reviews because we are not contractors (far from it) and have never had a bad experience. We typically make small purchases from household items to hardware to paint to small lumber purchases. Good selection and 100% friendly service. This is pretty typical of any place that has a monopoly, and Ganahl is no different: Bad selection. High prices. Mediocre service (unless you like hearing what the employees did over the weekend while you wait to interrupt them). BUT... If you need something in Laguna what are you going to do? I know this review isn't going to put them out of business, and I don't want it to...But if traffic isn't bad, you should just drive the extra 10 minutes to the Home Depot off El Toro. read more

We needed some Benjamin Moore paint so I called Laguna Beach store, talked to Marco who confirmed they had both types in stock. My wife took our list to the store. Marco was not available so she talked a short woman with dark hair. My wife gave her the Vista paint chip we wanted to match but the girl said that color was not in the book and she could not match it. My wife called me at home asking what to do. I told her have the girl computer match it, the girl said that was her next question. When my wife got home I saw the paint was not Benjamin Moore but a small paint company in Santa Fe Springs. "Custom mixed, no refunds." The second paint was Benjamin Moore but a more expensive type than we requested. Paint department seems to get a lot of bad reviews. I'll be shopping at Coast Hardware from now on. read more

This place is great!!!! My boyfriend and I wandered in here with great ambitions to build our own patio table. We were looking to save money but were quickly disappointed at the insane prices nice wood go for. The staff in the lumber yard was super awesome! He gave us different suggestions that saved us a lot of money. It didn't bother him that he had to call around and ask for stock and pricing. They also sell power tools, tons of equipment, paint, finishes and patio umbrellas. Everyone here is really nice! You also can't compare the environment of this place, tucked away in the Laguna Canyons and surrounded by mountains. Great experience! read more

Ganahl is my place to go when I not only need something and I don't want to drive out of town but also for special orders. Jason is my go to guy and he always comes through for me. In fact, one product Ganahl was no longer carrying so Jason put me in contact with a supplier who was carrying it and made sure that I not only got a good price for it, but that the company treated me well. I have ordered skylights, windows, doors, lumber, specially milled siding, decking and more from Ganahl during the last 15 years and I will continue to order the building supplies through Ganahl (with Jason's help!) that I need for my ongoing projects. read more

Janet Gordon in the door and windows department is terrific. She was at the Ganahl location in Pasadena while we were building our new house in Sierra Madre a few years ago. She tackled all our problems that we had with issues from the factories and made it all come together for us. Had it not been for Ms. Gordon's persistence and professionalism I think we would have had nervous breakdowns. Although he was in the middle of something, Jason stopped and took time to sit down and talk with me about pricing and availability of specific wood species. This review is for the paint department. I bought a lot of paint from them and they charge different prices each time for the exact same paint. Even if you're buying it at the same time..... it's almost unbelievable. I noticed when I saw the receipt and addressed it with them. They had no real answer and said someone would call me back about it. Never heard from anyone and it's been months. I am still calling to deal with them. Let me repeat, they charge different prices for the SAME item!!!! They also said they would come on site and look at the issues and address it (I had another issue with them). They never came and never did anything. The manager, and corporate manage, and store manager all each said they would come and address the issues and make it right. They never did. Purchased premium windows here for installation in a cottage remodel. The windows arrived damaged. I stopped payment on the windows to assure that repairs were performed and adequate restitution secured. Not only did Ganahl not stand behind the product and attempt to make good on the purchase, but they put a lien on my property to extort payment from me even when I had explained to them that payment would be forthcoming when the windows were acceptable. This all happened after I had already spent thousands of dollars there on the same remodel and this all happened in a matter of weeks. Really bad form and not befitting a company that understands customer service and is attempting establishing themselves with the local community. I was remiss the other day in posting what excellent service I received from Jay out in the lumber yard, in not mentioning that their cashier, Cyndi, makes both myself, and my dog, feel like family every time we walk in. I'm sure it's more because of the dog, than me, but she always greets us both by name as we walk in, and has a treat waiting behind the counter for the dog. I'm just a typical home owner, who needs stuff from down there maybe once or twice a month, and can go months without showing up, but Cyndi remembers us everytime we come in... talk about "old shool" local business practices, knowing and caring about your customers, it doesn't get any better than Cyndi, she embodies what friendly, professional and caring customer service is all about. read more
