Their 3rd party delivery process is terrible. The window was 10am-2pm. They were nice enough to call at 2:05pm to inform us they were not coming. But they would be happy to reschedule for Tuesday (3 days later on Veterans day). So I am supposed to be happy with that? No. Do I believe the 3rd party will deliver on a holiday? No. So while im on hold to talk to a supervisor (they sent me i didn't ask for one) at the 10 minute mark I got in my car to go to Home Depot. At the 26 minute mark as I'm turning into the parking lot, the supervisor comes on the line. By that time she is telling me how they will drop the delivery charge. You know for the all day window, on a holiday, by a 3rd party. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. So my response "im parking at Home Depot as we speak. Can I cancel my order with you, or do I go inside?" read more

It's no surprise that I love hardware stores, but this one will hold a special place in my heart. I've returned to Laguna Beach after many years and it's bitter sweet. The daughter of my dearest friend is getting married today but her mother won't be there. She died recently from leukemia. I needed to get a wedding card, so I went in the Coast to look for one. They had them. Actually, they have just about everything. They even wrapped a small extra gift for the couple. The ladies who run it are smart and kind. I've been looking for wall sconce screws at different stores with no luck. I walked into this store and the female staff sent me to Aisle 9 to look for them myself. I saw another staff member who was an older man and he was rude as hell. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we're all wearing masks. The rude guy told me look at the other aisle for something which I didn't understand him. Rude guy sent me to get other staff member who was a young man but he didn't know much about anything. I ended buying some screws but found out the thread doesn't work. So Frustrating. read more

Laguna Beach, Ca. I like to support our local businesses, so I come here often for odds and ends in spite of the fact that locals are known to refer to this business as "Gucci Hardware". This is in reference of course to their pricing. The fact is most items in the store can be had at lower prices if you want to drive ten miles (I don't). One of the things I admire most about Coast Hardware is their willingness to hire individuals who need a chance, and may have difficulty finding employment elsewhere. I personally have known at least four of these people and they have all expressed how much they like working there. This is my go to place for the following: Christmas lights, they stock the old incandescents in all the colors. Light bulbs, every type imaginable. Lamp parts, such as sockets and switches. Rodent traps, their black rat trap can only be found there and it is superior to all others I've tried. Gopher bombs, easy eradication without poison. Glue, a type for every need. I really like "Shoe Goo". Window glass, cut to order. Batteries, this is huge, every type you may need. Signs, one for every need. Then when the holidays roll around there is a huge selection of kitchen ware and utensils. There is always some new kitchen tool or gadget that makes a good stocking stuffer. And Mason jars! All sizes, including huge, with the snap off wire hinge lid. High end knives and cookware too as well as more modest offerings. The Ace Card for me has not had much value. I can't redeem most offers as the window for their use is just too limited, or I'm not spending enough to redeem. I'd just be happy with an instant discount but that's not how it's set up. Usually parking is easy, there are more spaces in the back. read more

Don't plan on coming in unless you have a blue mask, I tired to come in with a full face covering and the lady said I'd have to come in with a blue mask. She then pulled out a bag of new masks and said I'd need one of those to come in and I couldn't come in with my face covering better than a bandana. Never ever had a problem anywhere.... She Didn't even offer one of the masks she had in the package I don't know if she was having a bad day/life or the other lady was giving her a hard time today. *******The lady was the manager too. ****** Personal problems should not be the concern of the customers. I feel sorry that they are having such a hard time in life that they need to be rude and make others feel terrible for coming into the store with a face covering. Tested me like I was a robber or a person that was there to do them harm. Prices are a bit high, but given the location it's expected and they have several sale and clearance items. I have never written a yelp review, but this was so absurd and while I was standing there two other people had awful customer service Andrew very unhappy. Yesterday I purchased a pressure washer even though I thought it was too small after being told but if I was not happy with it I had 30 days to return it. As soon as I got home and turned it on I could tell that it did not have enough pressure for the job I was needing and took it back. 20 minutes later and three managers they did not take it back. They told me that the manager for that department had to be the one to do the return!? When I asked why they said because he needs to test the item before he returns it. So I have to sit there while he plugged it into a hose and uses the power washer!? If it doesn't work they would return it because it's broken. If it does work they still return because not what I wanted. So why exactly do I need to come another day during one persons schedule to come sit and have him test this item??? They said come back again when it's convenient... Overall very bad customer service each time I've been here but this was the final straw. read more

One evening my wife called me and said she had left the dome light on in her car and it wouldn't start. It was getting late and with very few options in Laguna Beach for auto parts stores I went to Coast Hardware for a set of jumper cables. When I arrived the store had just closed and the owners were locking up. I told them that all I needed was a set of jumper cables and they opened the doors, booted the POS terminal back up and rang me up for the jumper cables. In the past, I gave Coast Hardware a perfect 5 star rating due to their customer service. However I'm updating it to a 4 due to their customer return policy. The front desk cashiers are not authorized to process returns and require to you to visit the back area for returns. This area also helps new customers and I found myself waiting awhile for help. Then I had to complete a return request on a piece of paper and return back to the cashier. I feel the entire experience can be completed at the front and requiring the customers to go to the back area first is a waste of time for both the employee and customer. read more

Is it just me or does the old lady working the cashier just hate her job? First, I had to listen to her talk rudely to a person on the phone. Then when she hung up she mocked me and spoke rudely to me. All I did was agree with her. Not sure what I did, I just wanted to buy a few things. It's easy for me to just go get my supplies elsewhere. Which I most definitely will. We love Coast Hardware! We've bought so much here over the years; paint, screws, keys, etc. I love the small-town vibe and the prices are pretty competitive with Lowe's/Home Depot (it beats driving all the way out to those stores, too). And lesser known fact: CH is also a great place to pick up knick knack/souvenir gifts. Many of the items sold are hand painted by employees. Gift shopping at the hardware store? YES. Along with the usual hardware stuff, they've got a nice selection of kitchen items and local laguna type gifts. I mean, normally going to the hardware store is not on my list of fun chores, but Coast Hardware has made it liveable. This is the BEST hardware. Tell your staff to be 100% sure about something before then start offending customers and then go up to the front of the store and talk about it so loud that I can hear it from the back where I was still looking at light bulbs! That was so rude and still can't believe how loud and persistent he was and how he wouldn't leave it alone... how would you feel if someone came up to you and said something like that when you had really never done it? Especially considering I come in there all the time... Today I lost a lot of respect for this business... That and I appreciate the attempts to help but the store is small if we need the help it's pretty easy to find someone.. Okay, they don't have ten brands and sizes of everything like Home Depot but they've got more than the basics covered. It's there smack in the middle of town, just the place to hit along with the rest of your downtown errands. And as others have noted, it's more than "just a hardware store", with a wide variety of kitchen toys, small appliances, garden goodies, and slick gifts. I bet my owner could find a great new chow bowl here for me! They will help you, and you won't get lost inside this store, but you still may end up going to the bigger or specialized stores if you need something more on the esoteric side, like parts for a Hansgrohe faucet or a Gainsborough lock. But you'll be fine for all things Price Pfister or Kwikset! Parking can be a tad tricky during certain times of the day but that's more related to the nimrods that don't have the consideration to park carefully. For balance it would be nice to suggest something that needs improvement- but I can't think of anything. Well, I guess they could put the rodent control shelf space to better use, because that's cutting into my business! read more

The ONLY reason I'm giving Coast Hardware 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are slightly more expensive than their bigger competitors. Then again, that's what happens when you go to a smaller, more local place. Everyone here is super friendly, more than willing to help you find things and answer any questions you may have. As other reviewers have mentioned, they also have a huge variety of items not usually available in hardware stores. I even got one of those cute Laguna Beach license plate covers there. I had been looking everywhere for one, and stumbled across it at Coast Hardware. All in all: great store, great staff, and great location :) read more

I have been shopping at Cost Hardware for over 30 years. On July1st I purchased two new hoses. They were a new variety I had never seen put laid flat. They were just under $50/each. One of the hoses was defective and the connection to the tap just pulled off the hose part. I took it back to Coast Hardware and talk about terrible customer service. They would not exchange the hose without a paper receipt. I paid for it on my AMEX and pulled it up on my phone but that was not good enough. They told me to contact the manufacturer . Dave the manger was flat out unhelpful despite seeming me in there for over 30 years. I know their prices are higher but I try and support local businesses. Guess they prefer I go to Home Depot which I will do from now on. read more
