On a Sunday morning, there is already a line waiting for service at 9:45 in prep for their opening at 10. And if you need color matching be ready to wait about 45 minutes. Other than that, the shop is conveniently located and while it's small, it gets the job done and the people were friendly and helpful. read more

2 stars for the first person I worked with, I wish I had gotten his name, but he was very helpful, courteous and respectful, also the guys mixing the paint were super nice and helpful. In 3 days I have had to come to this location 4 times as we are moving and have to paint the house we rented back to its original colors, so we can get our full deposit back. After my first visit I was happy to come back and continue working with the original person I worked with. However, instead I was greeted by Bruce who is an assistant manager. My first thoughts of Bruce were that he was nice and knowledgeable, however, after interacting with him more than I would have cared to, I now find him condescending and he clearly has no awareness of what is inappropriate. My first interaction with him I was trying to determine if 2 colors were the same or not. He explained that one color was more red and the other was more green, but to me they looked exactly the same, to which he pulled out his pen and tapped me my on my nose with it. I was so surprised and taken aback by this, I didn't know what to do. I finished my transaction, and had to go back home to take a sample and come back to provide the sample so they could color match. On my way home, I was so annoyed and irritated by Bruce, I almost did not want to go back, but, had to since I had paid for my paint but didn't have it in hand yet. I wish I had requested to work with someone else, but, I didn't want to cause a scene or make waves since I knew I would have to go back. On my last visit there, I was with my husband and he even agreed that Bruce was extremely condescending. Even though we had the names of the colors we needed, he went on and on about how since we don't have an account he has to look it up and how their system is archaic, and blah blah blah...10 minutes later he starts his search and gets our colors. He did give us $10 off on a gallon that had been color matched, but didn't match exactly, to which I said "cool." His reply was "yeah, no problem". Any other painting needs, we will be going elsewhere, just so I don't have to see or work with Bruce again. read more

Even among D-E world these guys stand out - VERY knowledgeable and helpful. I haven't used the paint yet but the customer service alone made me eager to write a review. I am CLUELESS when it comes to paint and yet i had several painting projects that I needed handled in my new home. Davon and Oscar Perez both went above and beyond to make sure i knew what i was doing and had everything i needed for my projects. Super friendly and helpful and it really put me at ease having their guidance. Compared to the 3 previous trips i made to Home Depot regarding paint matters, i doubt i will ever go back there for paint. So grateful! read more

What could be... this store and product is very good & convenient. However, 80% of the time the staff blows the order. Can't find it, gives the wrong product or whatever. I came in Saturday morning, July 1, and the manager and girl employee kept arguing with each other the entire time I was there. It took 30 minutes for my paint to be mixed and after it was, they put it on the floor didn't bother calling my name and I stood there for another 20 minutes. I was the only customer in the store and three employees could not come up to me and ask what I was waiting there for? This is incompetence! Never again will I buy my paints at this location. read more

Just went here today because I needed more Dunn Edwards paint. I went a couple weeks ago to a different location and the color match was off. So I went into this location today to fix the mistake. It took me 20 minutes to get there. When I walked in there was not a single person behind the counter and literally only one staff member within eye distance. I spoke to her and told her that the paint I received did not match colors. She agreed with me, but she said because I got it from a DIFFERENT Dunn Edwards store I would have to go back to that same one to fix it.....another 20 minute drive! Yea folks. Apparently all Dunn Edwards are completely separate and are unwilling to fix the mistakes of the other store. Then she had the assistant manager, Morales, speak to me. Now don't get me started on this guy. He basically said the same thing. Apparently they like to make the customer take responsibility for any mistake that the stores make. He offered me a discount on a third can of paint. But why would I need that? It makes no sense! Avoid this Dunn Edwards establishment at all costs. Go elsewhere. UPDATE: I've updated this review to reflect what happened after. I received a communication from the regional manager (and subsequently the store manager) offering their apologies and a refund on my initial purchase. So I've upgraded my review to neutral. I still had a bad experience with their assistant manager but at least they have been responsive, understanding, and tried to correct the wrong. I hope the assistant manager learned a lesson too. read more

My wife said, "why buy paint at Home Depot?" "Go to a store that just specializes in one thing - paint." Good suggestion. The Dunn-Edwards staff were great in terms of helpfulness and advice. I asked them to match 3 samples. The matches were so close that we did not have to paint whole walls - just where the patches were. The paint covers well and is of excellent quality. read more

Dunn-Edwards sure has gone downhill! Yikes! My family lives near to the SJC Dunn Edwards and our home was painted by the builders with their paints. For 4 years I have been faithfully going there for ALL my paint and some of my painting supplies. No more. When you enter DE be prepared to be there at minimum one full hour. This place is poorly organized and it lends to huge waiting times in every department. For example, they have several lines (some with cashiers, some supposed to have cashiers that are not where they should be). Plus they have a number system that they rarely use but do feel free to bounce between throughout the day. They also have pick up areas and sometimes a girl or two helping with an iPad. There is always upset customers, though. That is the only thing you can count on. As a previous review stated their 'design services' are awful. We used it once and had to repaint our entire kitchen and dining room due to terrible advice. You are much better off leaning on a friend who you can trust that has great taste. Last week I was preparing to repaint my bedroom and called DE about my color choices. The guy on the phone (said he was a manager) refused to answer most of my questions. When I asked what colors were used in the color I selected he flatly refused to tell me. According to him, although there was only yellow and orange tones in the paint, it was too complex for me to understand. Seriously? At that point I went to Home Depot and you know what I found? BEHR paints are amazing! Full coverage and priced right. With DE I have dealt with chipping, discoloration and runny watery paints. BEHR is so superior I am kicking myself for wasting my time with the people at Dunn-Edwards. The Home Depot folks are friendly, too. No one told me that I was too dumb to understand colors!!!! They made the DE color for me and it is beautiful! Thank you Home Depot. Lastly, I can't stand the fact the DE does not have any prices for their items where a customer can see them. That is right - you'll have no clue how much any paint or tools costs until you go to buy it! What the heck? That alone adds 30 minutes to each visit. Seems shady to me, too. By the time you're so exhausted by their poor setup and lackluster customer service they figure you'll pay anything to get out of their shop. I am so happy we have taken our business elsewhere. I called this morning to re-order some paint I had purchased last yr. I had all the info that was needed, but the dud who answered the phone didn't have a clue from word one. He was totally hopeless and helpless. Put me on hold at least three times and after the last time, when he still couldn't help, I asked to talk to anyone else. He said, "OK" and that was the last I heard from anyone. Luckily, I found a Dunn-Edwards store in San Clem, who treated my like royalty throughout. Even carried my paint to my car! What a pleasure it was to work with Manuel, of Dunn-Edwards Paints, San Juan Capistrano. I needed nine different color schemes, each containing several colors of paint, from among almost forty options chosen by our association. Manuel couldn't have been more pleasant and happy to gather all of the paint chips I needed, and he offered to do it immediately, or whenever I wanted to pick them up. In addition, he was happy to meet me in the parking lot with all of the selections. Manuel is a great representative of Dunn-Edwards Paints! Just went here today and had to wait 20 minutes in line to just check out two items they need to have someone just on the cash register doing the cash register not phones and paying all the other stuff and I don't know why they have this thing where you pick a tab but it kind of works but not if you don't know about it and you don't shop there a lot anyways if you go here plan on it taking a while read more

This is a late review but this Dunn Edward's location deserves my 5 star review. The customer service here is awesome. The gentleman ( tall white guy) who mixed the paint was kind and perceptive enough to see that I needed help getting the 5 gallon buckets of paint that I bought, into my car. He was nice enough to walk out with me and put them in for me. I tried to give him a tip but he wouldn't take it. Sorry I didn't get his name but he deserves to be recognized for good professional service. read more

My employees have been working in the area so over the last two weeks we've dealt with Several employees at this store which are all super helpful but one person that has stood out is Roman. The only thing worse than their EVEREST "Ultra Premium" paint is the Customer Service ! The label & ads say "self priming", but the paint is TRANSLUCENT and required 3 times the normal amount to attempt to cover a slightly darker shade. It says LIFETIME WARRANTY....Zero response to my 2 visits to the store and 3 phone calls to the store manager! EVEREST is JUNK & the most expensive product the sell. At night the previous color shows through 3 coats of EVEREST ! read more

I went to Dunn Edwards in SJC on Camino Capistrano. I don't think I'll ever buy paint in a "big box" store again. Bruce saw the two products I was buying together and immediately started questioning me as if he were a detective. At first I was like, WTF? Then it became clear to me he was concerned that I might be using the wrong primer. Ten minutes later I walked out confident I had the right paint and primer. BTW, I also saved $20 by being steered to the correct formulation of primer for our exterior stucco walls. Bruce is a consummate professional. I think he should be training other paint department personnel in how to ask their customers the right questions. read more

Dunn-Edwards is the worst. Got a sample color and liked it. Went back to order 2 gallons and it took 45 minutes even though I was the only one in the store. Went home to start painting and it was a totally different shade. Went back the next morning and they checked the colors. Of course the gallon did not match the sample. They opened the second gallon and that one did not match either one, so the two gallons I bought yesterday did not even match each other??????? Now I have to wait another 1 hour for them to try to match the sample color. Are you kidding me?? Wasted 4 hours because they can't even match the sample that they made. read more

Great paint! Horrible hours! I love Dunn Edwards paint - it is great quality. I love that they have a color consultant on site to help customers. I do not love that they close at 5:00PM Monday thru Friday. How are customers supposed to get their paint and supplies if they work standard hours? I wish they would consider extending their hours into the evening. I think it would improve their business tremendously. read more

I agree with others in their store hours are not convenient. Recently I went in on a Saturday and Jim, the Associate Manager was exceptional. He straightened out the paint guy to explain that my order was from a Dunn Edwards standard, although he stated he could not mix if I did not have the order number or stock number. Jim saved the day. He was very helpful, kept the store open an additional 15 minutes to get my order completed and even gave me a complimentary discount as a Senior. The quality of the paint is fantastic. Normally there is a numbering system to get your order in. Jim was there alone and ensured I left with the right paint and I was impressed with his customer service. I was stressed when the original guy said he could not fulfill because I did not have the original numbers of the paint color but I had the past paint job number. They said they could not look up by past order number, that their computer system changed. So be sure to bring in the paint number and custom mixing recipe if completing previous job. read more

I have been going to Dunn-Edwards in San Juan Capistrano for several years and over all have been satisfied with the quality of paint and service. I had an experience that will keep me coming back even through I went through some pain. I was painting a condo only on a touch up and a couple of rooms and after bring the sample in to the store it was not right and I needed to go back twice. This is when Bruce Romagnano (The assistant manager) took over and personally mixed the next batch. It came out PERFECT. Every business will make mistakes but how the issue is corrected gets the customer a RAVING customer. That is what Bruce did he did whatever he needed to do to fix the problem..Ok Paint is Paint but the employees you connect with are the difference makers..I'm a raving fan.. read more

I came in here today and was very impressed with how many people they had available to assist customers. I grabbed a number and before it was even called someone came over to help me. And that certainly wasn't due to a lack of customers because there were people everywhere. The gal was very friendly and helpful, got me everything I needed and I was outta there within 30-40 min with paint samples and supplies in hand. By the way, she was spot on when she helped me with the colors and I'm going with them for our siding. I can't remember her name but I will update when I go back to purchase my paint. read more
