This review is for the windows and doors department. Last year, I paid to have the window installer come out and measure my windows. This year, I decided to order them. The estimate I had was apparently incomplete and I was told by George that he would contact the installer to see if they had additional information. That was almost 2 weeks ago. I called him, left messages, spoke to him once where he said he would get back to me. Didn't hear back. Called him again and finally received a return call today saying they would refund the $50 that I paid the installer and would not sell me windows because they were not comfortable having their installer measure the windows if they were not doing the installation. George knew that was the case when I came in 2 weeks ago - never mentioned it. And, it is ridiculous since I would assume responsibility if the windows were measured wrong. I am sure that's what their paper work says. Seems that George just didn't want to be bothered. Sad because my husband loves this place. He is a wood worker and buys quite a lot of lumber from Ganahl. read more

Friendly and helpful staff. Prices for tools were not that great. I've been here ~4 times and have been impressed by people's helpfulness compared with Lowe's or Home Depot. read more

Looking for windows and doors for brand new house. Would be a big order. Dropped by and salesman spent about an hour showing what they have and the different features. Said the best way to go forward was to e-mail him plans. E-mailed the plans, called twice and left messages for follow-up and nothing. What horrible service. These guys have really good quality stuff. I mean nothing here is low grade. The prices are high, but I think you get what you pay for. Also, you're never going to beat the price of a place like Home Depot or Lowe's. The reason for my low rating is that it's simply not an easy place to go shop. It's a yard that you pull in and out of, and have to verify copies of paperwork to get out. In addition, and most importantly, the employees here are rude. I come here a lot, and they're not rude every single time and it's not everyone, but almost. I've never been to a store where almost every time I go, there is a rude person who is either on a forklift, or behind a counter, or has something sarcastic to say. This guy Manny who works outside is the worst. Rachel inside clearly hates her job. Are you doing that well where you can just afford to lose customers based on how your employees treat them? read more

Tried Lumber Liquidators in City of Industry and Commerce first... both locations employ the worst customer service personnel I've come across. Lumber Liquidators (bunch of lying jerks) and Ganahl Lumber are like night and day. The store is clean, well organized. We found what we needed at a much lesser price than we had been quoted elsewhere. Staff is polite and professional. But the star of that show is George, I think he's the customer service manager at Ganahl. Whatever they pay him they should double it. He's very knowledgeable, gave us great, thorough advice and he's just an all around nice guy in a very sincere ( not a kiss- ass) way. read more

Why did I not know of this place?! It's the perfect cross between HD/Lowes and an old fashioned hardware store. Excellent customer service with a huge selection. HD is less than a mile away, but for large purchases from now on I'll be coming to Ganahl. Can't believe I've been to HD at least 20 times in the past month -- sometimes 3x a day. Customer service isn't dead.. great service and very helpful employees. They give you options on a project and help make the best choice. They cut all the wood precisely making it easier to complete a project. And load wood in the car. Definitely will shop there instead of any other store. The sales person was very knowledgable and assisted us in making the best selection based on our needs and budget. The contractors they work with were very professional and did an excellent installation in one day. The architect/planner that designed the layout of the parking for this store should be shot. There is a tiny ridiculous parking lot that doesn't really border the main entrance to the store. The main entrance to the store is inexplicably located on the side of the store. Even though the parking lot is tiny for a store of this size, it's partitioned into two sections (one for the Doors and Windows building- why?) and it has speed bumps! Though the store (the lumber yard) has an entrance on E Walnut street- this isn't for public use. One has to enter and exit on Colorado- and usually turning anything other than right (East) out of the parking lot is difficult on Colorado boulevard. Whoever designed this parking lot really must want Ganahl to fail as a business. The access simply couldn't be worse. I just went there earlier today drove around in circle in the parking lot and left when I couldn't find parking. I went to OSH instead. ( PS The times I actually made it into the store, I generally found no salespeople to help me, and I detected a distinct attitude toward the DIY'er. This is a store for contractors and laborers, not for the average hardware shopper- and they let you know that) read more

I have 2 comments. One, you get what you pay for, and two, if you are a weekend "hobby" type, stay out of the store, and let people who know what they are doing, interact with clerks that know what you are talking about. read more

I have driven by this place now for months. I finally decided to give them a try and wow, was I impressed. Their selection of lumber is superior to Home Depot, the quality and quantity of the lumber yard is fantastic. They have mastered the art of organization for a retail store. Everything is in it's place and the prices are very competitive with home depot. Customer service is great too, friendly an always asking you if you need help (in a very respectful way). I have never seen more then about 20 people in the store and I love that, as I hate the crowds HD always has. read more

I've been here twice, and didn't waste a ton of time or leave feeling like an idiot, which says a lot for a hardware store. The first time I came they cut some wood without charging me (hooray!), and the second time they helped me with a DIY project. They aren't afraid to recommend other stores if they think they're better suited, but I could have saved some time and avoided a bad experience at Orchard if I hadn't left. read more

They have everything you need but without the circus atmosphere and surly semi-retarded employees that inhabit the Home Depot. Love this store. They may not be Home Depot, but their lumber selection is superior, REAL customer service from knowledgeable staff, and they have REAL lumber---hardwood veneer, four quarter hardwood, and in addition, excellent plumbing, electrical and finishing selection. read more

Expensive and poor service. I purchased a small amount of lumber, but nevertheless, I ended up paying four times what I would have elsewhere for the same quality. I also found their ordering and payment method cumbersome and inefficient. Furthermore, I picked out my selections and left them at "will call" for my contractor to pick them up later, and he was given a very hard time, was told everyone was out to lunch and had to wait around way longer that should be acceptable. When I called the manager (Scott at the Anaheim store) to voice my complaint, he assured me that he would follow up and call me back, never happened. I am sure they won't miss my business, but I refuse to hand my money over to a company that treats customers so poorly. read more

Overall seems like a great place but I dealt with a women named "Steph" who was not helpful at about in assisting me with composite decking. Not sure if she was just not that knowledgeable about the differences in the products or just was having a bad day. Her responses to my questions were short and curt. I will try the store again but I will not deal with her. read more

this store is everything home depot is NOT... friendly people who know where everything is,... quality lumber at prices that actually, somehow beat home depot and lowes prices... and they sell Festool!... they don't always have every item I need, or I'd give 5 stars... plus its all the way up in passadena.... but its a great store. read more
