Ganh Pho is a Vietnamese restaurant located at 906 Washington Street in Braintree, Ma. My family dined in during lunch on a Sunday. There was plenty of street parking on both sides of the street. I believe there is also parking in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant was empty when we came in during lunchtime. The host told us we could sit anywhere we liked. There were plenty of tables and seatings for parties of 4-6 in the dining area. There were a few takeout orders ready for pickup. I would say pretty slow for a Sunday. Only one other family came in during our entire stay. I was excited to try the bun mang vit but it was sold out. I tried to order the mi quang but that also was sold out. Luckily the bun rieu was available. My husband ordered bun bo hue and the kids had pho tai bo vien. I would say that the food was overall good, but lacking when compared to some of the Vietnamese restaurants that I am used to going to. The pricing is also slightly higher than most Vietnamese restaurants I have been to as well. I am sure rent is higher in Braintree, hence, higher overhead expenses, which likely translates to higher pricing. Avocado shake was sweet and the flan was also not available from the menu when I went. Majority of the items that I wanted to try was not available. I think I need to come before noon next time to get the popular items from their menu. We came around 1:00pm. Also, the restaurant was cleaner and definitely more modern compared to most Vietnamese restaurants I have been too. The customer service the day we went was super friendly. The lady who serviced us was so kind and thoughtful. She bought extra napkins because we had kids without us even asking. When we left, she ran after us to give my son's sunglasses. I hate to leave less than four star, especially during COVID times to any restaurant. I believe we didn't get a good representation of the food today. We really enjoy the Pho soups with the beef rib and I've also tried their special spicy soup and it's great with just the right amount of spice to enjoy and still get a nice kick. This was my second time ordering from here. The first time I got exactly what I wanted but this time it was nothing like advertised or what I received the first time. I spent $20 on (Mi hoanh thánh tôm) and they gave me the nastiest thin slice of pork I ever seen also it didn't include Bok Choy which it did last time. My family and I were in the area and wanted to give Ganh Pho a try! We ordered their spring rolls (number 1), beef noodle soup with special beef combination (number 15) and rice with grilled pork chop (number 36). The spring rolls and pho were tasty. However the pork chop was saltier than expected and quite thin. As we were wrapping up, we wanted to order a couple drinks to go. We asked the employee for the drink menu and she said she doesn't know the drink options and told us to go on the website to reference the menu. When we checked the online menu and there were only three smoothie options. Expensive and smaller than normal portions, but damn good food. I'm sick with COVID and too weak to cook right now, but I'm a Viet food snob being raised under my mom and dad's cooking. I've ordered their pho tai bo vien, bum rieu, ca kho and a few other things and everything has been spectacular. I can't wait to bring my dad here some time! The only thing I will say is I did order the hu tieu but asked them to make it the dry style (hu tieu kho) but it wasn't done right. All good. Their goi cuon could use less lettuce and more pork. There are less than a dozen tables for seating and at least two of them were occupied by staff/supplies. There is a TV in the corner seemingly to play music but it was hardly audible; all we got was a stock image of a woman wearing only a pair of overalls promising us "Hot Country Music Hits 2021" while we ate in silence (we didn't need or ask for it to be heard, it was just a weird/inappropriate image to have displayed). For a small restaurant with a fair amount of staff members, they were quite inattentive to my table's attempts to flag down someone for service. One of my friends had found what looked like a black hair in her curry (we did NOT confirm that it was nothing) and the manager was kind enough to remake the entire dish for free (not immediately, she argued with us about it for several minutes). The bowl of pho I had was average at best. I can't say anything about this place stood out to me over the many other Vietnamese options south of Boston. We ordered the Pho Dac Biet, kid's portion Pho Tai, and Bun Bo Hue. I was raised Vietnamese and the pho was authentic and phenomenal! Their portions of meat were not only generous, but they were attentive to the thin slices of beef carefully laid on top of the noodles to make sure that it arrived to the table medium rare rather than well done. The pho was served with cooked bean sprouts (I asked for it to be cooked), basil, and pickled onions (this is how authentic pho is normally served in Vietnam, yet it is the only restaurant in the area that includes it as a side to their pho automatically). You can taste the time and love invested in the depth of flavors in their broth, which my husband and I were impressed by. Additionally, my son is still young so they made him a separate small bowl with only noodles, beef, and broth, which he loved. They were very kind to do this for us bc it was off-menu and only charged us $6 for it, which I thought was fair and reasonable. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (BBH) and although it was decent, it was missing ingredients that make it authentic to me (i.e. banana flower/ red cabbage or pork blood) so it wouldn't be my first choice when I come back. We stopped off route 93 for dinner and found Ganh Pho on Yelp, and decided to try it. I'm glad we did. The quality and selection equaled any Vietnamese restaurant we've been to in other places, specifically in neighborhoods in California where we live. In particular the beef broth with soft tendon pho was well done, the seafood dishes distinguished and the Thai iced tea subtle enough to let the tea flavor come through.
