This does seem to be inconsistent though, as several parties who arrived after us got food quickly (even some before us). Staff were very pleasant and even provided table service despite the restaurant being set up for ordering at the counter. I was in town for business and heard about this restaurant from the locals. The interior of the restaurant is really neat and they even have a patio area of seating. The appetizer with chips and three types of dips is really great. I recommend the pico and guac. I ordered the cauliflower taco which was delicious however I liked the chicken quesadilla much more! It was phenomenal. For a drink, I had the jalapeño cucumber margarita which was good. Not too strong. Good service too. read more

I sit here 3 hours after ordering Garage via UberEats with a belly full of delicious Tex-Mex food... oh wait I hear some grumbles from down below... could it be I never received my food?? No that seems irrational. I mean I have a little cup of salsa and sour cream in front of me and that must've come en el lado (on the side) of some tacos right? Ah but no, now I can recall that my food never came and the little cup was nothing but a pity offering from my quesadilla loving comrade who did receive his food. I'm left wondering why this garage wanted me to suffer. When I called and asked the manager was very cool and called me dude! It wasn't rude or condescending at all and I loved being called a liar! But in the end I don't know what I was thinking ordering tacos from a garage in the first place. They really should stick to fixing cars. read more

Like a previous reviewer said - I had grown tired of the vodka penne around the corner and was looking for something different so we gave it a try. First Impression: This place is cool. Hopefully a sign of things to come for Bingo. It is a real converted garage and they did a great job embracing the theme. Garage doors open up to outside picnic seating. Kids and dogs welcome. Ordering is a little awkward but they are taking a different tact on it. Good beer selection although a little hipsterish (but that is everywhere) and the margaritas are made on the spot to your specification. Service: You order up front and wait for your number to be called. It is not a big deal but you can't order drinks at the same time so you end up waiting in two separate lines to get what you want before being able to sit down. Food: It was good. My wife ordered two fish tacos and I got one fish and one chicken. They lived up to the expectation and price of gourmet tacos. The roasted sweet corn with mayo cheddar butter is not to be missed. You can share - there are two pieces. Overall Impression: Good but it was a little crowded and the ordering at the bar was a challenge. Come here all the time with my college friends. Great vegan spot for anyone who is vegan in the area. Make some dope tofu tacos. Also the drinks are pretty good, especially the slushi ones! Super cool hipster atmosphere, and outdoor space. Prices are pretty cheap/fair as well. Recommend this place to everyone. read more

Decided to check this out for lunch today and I'm glad we did! Food was excellent, perfect portion size, and prices were very reasonable. We went at an odd hour so not sure how service is when the place is busy (other reviewers weren't too impressed) but we had our food in 10 minutes. I'll start off by saying that I may not be the best person to critique a taco place. I like tacos but I never really crave them. I never really go to Taco Bell, Moe's, or Chipotle, but I do think that Los Tapitos and Viva in Ithaca are very good restaurants, and if the Garage expands their menu a bit more then they will be some good competition for Los Tapitios. One thing that Los Tapitios has over the garage is the prices and portions. You can eat a lot for a little at Los Tapitios, but The Garage isn't really the same vibe. It's a kinda trendy new downtown eatery, so I expected the prices to be higher, but to be honest I think they're pretty fair prices. While the portions are a little smaller, the food is pretty good. the pork and beef in my tacos seemed pretty fresh and they had a good flavor, but I think I liked the beef a little more, it was nice and tender and not crappy ground beef. I ordered the medium salsa and it wasn't spicy at all, so next time I think I'll try the habanero salsa instead. I got a side of slaw and while I do like vinegar slaws, I feel like this one needed some oil in it to balance it out a little. I liked the chips and queso a lot, the chips had a good crisp texture and I liked that the queso was a bit on the thin side. I think they put beer in it, there was a nice malty flavor and I liked it better than other beer cheese sauces I've had, and it had a nice little kick too from the jalapenos. I also tried the frito pie, which is a dish I've heard about before but never got to try, I think they are the only place around who does it. The chilli they put on it was pretty good, not the best I've ever had but I liked it, but overall I felt like the dish was missing something. I poured a little queso over it and it helped, but sour cream also would have done the trick. So yes, I liked the food and I think that the other people on here saying that it was flavorless are crazy. There's even one reviewer on here that gave the place a bad review and she didn't even go here, she reviewed it based on what her co-worker told her! what a joke! get a life! I will say though that the comments on the service are valid. It took 40 minutes for my food to come out, but this place is new and I'm sure they will get quicker as time goes on. I haven't had any issues with the staff though, everyone behind the bar was very nice. The place looks great too, maybe even one of the coolest looking restaurants in Binghamton, I definitely see myself stopping in here for drinks more often, especially with the beer they have on tap, they have beers from Galaxy, Binghamton Brewing, and my local favorite, North Brewing. So yeah, they still have some kinks to work out but I see this place doing very well in the future. I'd like to see them add burritos to the menu too, and maybe a few dessert options. Great Place in Binghamton. Stopped in while traveling for business and was pleasantly surprised. Im a frequent traveler and purposely venture out to support the local businesses. The concept of the Taqueria Garage is amazing and should succeed nicely. This place has a very good beer selection and the staff was incredibly attentive. My husband and I came here for late dinner twice while we were in town. Tacos were fantastic, and catered to both a carnivore (him) and a vegetarian (me). The beer and booze selection is good. Plenty of local drafts, and good, not overly-sweet wine slushees. My one complaint is that the staff, while all very friendly, isn't the best with making you feel welcome. Twice, on two different nights, people behind the bar clearly acknowledged me and that I was waiting to order, then went on to flirt with bar patrons while ignoring that I wanted to order. Not flirted while doing other work that may have prevented them from taking my order. Elbows on the bar, leaning in to the person they were flirting with, straight up ignoring me even though I was standing two feet away from them, and they had already acknowledged that they saw me by saying hi. Then eventually someone else would come and take my order but also not recognize that a fellow employee was literally right in front of me, not doing any work, but still not getting a drink for a waiting patron. The only thing I can figure is that they have very clearly delineated jobs here. Like, if you're supposed to work the beer tap, you can't make mixed drinks. Or if you're supposed to work the food register, you can't pour beer (actually the food register girl was always at her post at the food register, and super friendly and attentive). But since the employees are all behind the bar, and nobody explained this, or even did as much as say "I can't take a drink order but my coworker will be right with you", it ended up feeling like employees just didn't want to help customers. And even the employees who ignored me were super friendly once I got my drink order. I don't think they were rude and awful, just that they maybe weren't allowed to take drink orders at that time or something. That's all ok, but if employees can't take a drink order, they probably shouldn't be behind the bar, or it gets confusing and makes customers feel neglected. I'll be back. It was good food and good booze, all at good prices. The outdoor patio was gorgeous and allowed my dog. And despite the weird customer service issues, the people who worked there seemed really nice. ***as a side note, I see a lot of complaints about the amount of food you get for the price. My husband and I had two tacos each (which I found to be standard sized and generously filled), sides of the cheese dip or guacamole (one on each night we were there), and sides of rice and slaw, plus an order of elotes. That all came in at under thirty bucks. Everything is a la carte, tacos are 3-5 bucks each depending on the protein, sides are a dollar, dips are a few bucks, and elotes were three or four bucks for a good portion. When I build a meal that has sides, two big tacos, and an appetizer or two, for two people, and it comes in under $30, I'm a happy camper. read more

My friends and I walked in and got seated fairly quick with menus, however, our drinks took 10 minutes to come and our food took 50 minutes to come. Great idea, poor execution! Flour tortilla shells for a la carte tacos? Where's the authenticity? I tried five different tacos and they all tasted the same because of a creamy salad dressing type sauce that adorned every taco. The chips were so salty!!! The decor and ambiance are absolutely amazing and very unique, especially for Binghamton. However, the evening we went the service was slow. The flavors are there, but the portions were disappointing. For two tacos (with one side) at $8.00, there really should have been more filling in the taco or at least offer 3 tacos for $8.00. Also, have to paying at 2 cash registers separately for food and beverage creates a disruptive dining experience. Why not pay for everything at the front and then show the receipt to the bartender? Or just hire bar wait staff for the pay as you go concept? And because of the wait time, offer chips and salsa for free. It'll keep tummies from rumbling and keep your guests from wondering if you've forgotten their order. Training your staff to welcome guests - a smile and "welcome to the Garage" really can make a difference versus, "what can I get you?". This is a really cool spot and has been a highly anticipated addition to the Bingo food scene. If it's going to be "fast casual" like a Panera, then food should be served in 5 minutes. If you're going to be "table service", then justify the higher cost of tacos with wait staff, stainless steel utensils, menus and heartier portions for dinner (sorry, but my husband and I left a little hungry). IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE 0 STARS, I WOULD! First off the waitresses were not attentive at all, completely ignored me, and my elderly mother. I do not understand how when it is your job, you do not listen, let alone make eye contact with the customers at all. In short, the service was blasphemous. It got so bad that at a point, I had to get up and pour my own water!!! And they did not even acknowledge that fact! The place had only 3 tables to account for, with 4 waitresses present! Disgusting. This place is super aesthetically pleasing and the food looks super pretty and great for photos. The issue is with the food. For one thing it took an hour for it to come out.The food for some reason has weird flavors that mess up the would-be good food. I ordered the pork tacos and they had like candle spice taste in them and my friend ordered the steak quesadilla and it was mediocre but had a different weird taste to it. I was really excited to hear about this new spot in Binghamton but the dining experience left quite a bit to be desired. I ordered a taco salad with ground beef; probably not what most would consider to be authentic Mexican food but what can I say? It's a favorite. For starters, the salad took a half-hour to forty minutes to get. Yes, it was busy but so is every restaurant at dinner time and a taco salad requires pretty minimal preparation. A salad shouldn't require that kind of wait. The salad itself, though, is my biggest gripe. I will give Garage some due credit- it was really refreshing to get fresh spring mix in my salad instead of flavorless iceberg lettuce. I also get that for vegetarian, vegan and health-conscious diners, it's a fresh take on a cuisine where (in my experience in Chicago's Mexican neighborhoods on the Southwest Side) "authentic" means, "refried in delicious, delicious bacon grease." My problem, though, is that the recipe such a simple thing deviated so far from the norm that it wasn't even a taco salad anymore. For starters, there were no tortilla chips in it, which I expected in order to get the classic crunch of a taco in salad form. The salad consisted of about 90% spring mix with some sort of faint Italian or vinaigrette dressing on it (?) and a perhaps-too-generous shredded red cabbage topping. The rest consisted of extremely stingy portions of crumbled queso, finely-diced tomatoes, unseasoned ground beef and possibly salsa; I couldn't taste if any was on it because if there was any, it was that sparse. Top this thing with as many fresh ingredients as you want but it isn't a taco salad; it's a regular salad topped with a tablespoon of plain beef. Whether a taco salad is American-made b.s. or not, diners still have expectations of what a taco salad consists of and tastes like, and this one totally missed the mark. Literally the only things that made my salad taste remotely like a typical taco salad were the (stingy drops of) sour cream that I had them put on it as an extra and the hot sauce that I poured on it myself. My advice? Go with fresh ingredients but stay true to form. Use fresh tortilla chips, make seasoning out of fresh spices and for the love of all that is holy, if you're going to charge $9 for a salad, measure out the non-greens toppings with something other than a thimble. read more

Went with a small group of friends to celebrate a birthday on a Friday night. The restaurant had open tables and we waited close to an hour and a half for our food. We ordered tacos. Tacos don't take an hour and a half to prepare. When they finally arrived, everything was dried out as if it had sat under the heating lamp for that hour and a half. The tacos that one of my friends ordered still didn't come out for another 10 minutes. We had to get ourselves utensils. The whole experience was laborious. The decor and beer selection are awesome, but other than that, not much else. All of my experiences there have been similar to this, but this took the cake. Can't waste the money again. read more

Overall, good food and a great atmosphere. The outdoor seating and open air dining are a huge plus, especially because there aren't many places to eat outside in downtown Binghamton. The tacos are not traditional Mexican food, but are very good nonetheless. I first ordered a steak taco and a pork taco. Both were very good, although the pork taco did not have as much pineapple flavor as I expected. I then ordered the daily special, the chicken wing taco. The combination of the chicken and blue cheese and celery in this taco was SO good, although the tortilla was a little bit hard, which hadn't been a problem with the other two tacos. read more

I really loved the atmosphere and bar. Every drink I've had is good, no complaints there. However, I've gone multiple times and haven't been very impressed with the food or staff. The waitresses I've had aren't trained well in dealing with mishaps from the kitchen, and require insistent prompting to return orders to the kitchen so that they can be fixed/re-made. Every appetizer and taco entrée I've tried there is bland and mediocre. You can't claim to be a taco bar if you don't know how to make a delicious taco!!! The first time I have stepped foot in this restaurant I was disappointed. That was in august of 2017, I went again to see if anything had changed.... nothing!! Once again I walk In workers look at me and my brother and don't acknowledge us. After 7 mins of waiting to be seated we get to our table. It took the waiter 12 minuets till he came to ask us for our drinks.... OUR DRINKS!!!! Not even the food. Waiting and waiting we order, they had no gluten free options, the portions were small, food was not delightful at all actually.
