This is a solid Italian restaurant. House made pasta. Very traditional sauces. Got the Brussel sprouts appetizer. I found the balsamic and honey combo too sweet. Then got the rigatoni ragu and the butacini amatriciana. They were both good. The butacini was a bit heavy. Definitely want to come back and try a few more dishes.
Seriously what's not to love about this place. From the servers to the food to the ambiance, both times we've been here it's been immaculate. Got the pasta with a crispy chicken cutlet again, which could have been a meal on its own-may have been a foot across. House made pasta was delicious as usual. Star of this round was the brussel sprouts, by far the best I've ever had. Have heard people say they can make vegetables take on that meaty taste, and this nails it. And they're huge! Meatballs melt in your mouth.
Food- 5 Service- 3.5 Ambiance- 3 My husband and I love the food at Garbarinos and it is also a good value for the portion sizes. We went this past weekend for my husband's birthday and had the bread with garlic sizzle butter, brussel sprouts, rigatoni with meatballs and rigatoni with tomato cream sauce with a crispy chicken cutlet added to it. All of the food was fantastic. The brussels were especially good and a huge portion! The downsides are the service and the ambiance. The service started good but we waited a very long time for our entrees and after we finished, the server was pretty slow to get us our check. The ambiance isn't great. It's a bit odd as far as decor goes, the floor could be upgraded, and the tables are pretty basic. The food and prices make up for the decor and the service but the food alone would warrant a 5.
This was my first time here and I'm not huge on Italian food but I heard good things and wanted to try. We ordered beans and greens and arancini as appetizers when I tell you those beans and greens CHANGED MY LIFE! So much flavor, the arancini was also great but both came out a little cold although the waitress did offer to heat it up but it didn't even matter it was still delish. I ordered the gnocchietti or something like that with a cream sauce and grilled chicken my friend had the rigatoni with eggplant they wer both tasty but after the apps and a few drinks we couldn't fit anymore food in us so we got it wrapped up and ordered a cannoli to go. We had a 5:00 reservation and were out of there in a little over an hour but the place filled up pretty quickly and I'm not surprised it's definitely a good date night or celebration spot. Fancy enough but not so much you feel out of place if you wear jeans and a nice top.
I got the chicken parmesan (4.5/5), which was pretty good and massive; it was a ton of chicken and pasta so definitely a good value. The outside was super crunchy, and there was just the right amount of cheese on top. The pasta was also dusted with some cheese, which tied it all together nicely. We all liked what we got and appreciated the very large portions! The service was great (4/5), and the restaurant has a nice interior too (4/5).
We had a lovely dinner here on a Saturday night. The service was exceptional. Despite being very busy, our server accommodated our request to switch tables due to being directly under a vent that was blowing cold air on us. It took a little while to do this and she comped our drinks (totally unnecessary, but very appreciated). We started with the fried mozzarella and the bread and sizzling garlic. If you like butter and garlic, get the sizzling garlic. So good! We had the pesto spaghetti and chicken Parmesan as our main entrees. The entrees are pretty big portions and were delicious. Overall, this was a very nice date night!
This meal was sooo yummy. The bread and garlic confit oil... I literally wanted to drink it. The tomatoes and burrata was pretty standard, and I would probably skip it next time to try something that I can't assemble at home like this. Both pastas were absolutely delicious and the grilled chicken on top was also extremely tender and flavorful. The char on it gave it a really delicious taste. The portions were absolutely massive as well! Garbarinos is a great spot when you want a nice heavy Italian meal.
Food: We ordered the Spaghetti Pesto Alfredo & Rigatoni Tomato Cream. The ingredients listed on the menu is what you get. Very simple, no extra effort given beyond the output of a classic italian dish. Each plate proportionately could have fed two people so it felt like we were eating for four. We both left full, but underwhelmed with the flavor profiles rendered. Service: Overall our waitress was pretty absent, having asked us how we were doing only twice, leaving little room for any comments or feedback to be offered. She recognized her absence and offered us a surprise tiramisu (complimentary) to make up for the lack of attentiveness to our table. Seating: A large bar stretches the restaurant accompanied by wooden chairs, tables and a few booths tucked against the parallel wall. The seating is not tight, meaning you have space between yourself and other parties but the wooden chairs/tables were uncomfortable. In 2026, we just expected a little more from a restaurant charging $20+ for pasta plates. Affordability: If you're going out for drinks and an appetizer, you might be able to sneak your bill in for under $50, but otherwise forget it. Each plate is $20+ with options on the wine list reaching as high as $200+ ... We wouldn't describe this atmosphere as fancy, but the prices are trying to be. Comments: Always support local, small business and give every spot a try. We left this restaurant full, but saying we wouldn't be back, and think it's important that you get an opportunity to read an honest review before you spend your hard earned money. This spot is such a gem! My boyfriend and I met my family friends here for dinner. Such a cute spot with friendly staff! I had an Aperol Spritz which was made perfectly. We split the crispy Brussels sprouts which were so insanely good, I need to recreate the recipe. If you get any app, get the Brussels sprouts (also balance with the carbs, right?!). All of the pastas and sauces are made from scratch! The portions are HUGE. I got the Rigatoni & meatballs and I was blown away! The meatballs are the Garbarino family recipe and they were the best meatballs I've ever had. I don't usually go for rigatoni but it was perfect. Also the best marinara sauce I've ever had (I usually only have store-bought marinara lol). I got a cannoli for dessert and it was perfect; one side had chocolate chips and one side had pistachio crumbles. My boyfriend's Gnochetti dish was incredible! He said it's now his favorite gnocchi dish in Pittsburgh. He also got a slice of cheesecake for dessert and loved it, but he was upset that there was no graham cracker crust. My family friends got the Rigatoni & Ragu and the Rigatoni & Siciliana and they loved both! They also split a tiramisu for dessert, which they said was great. We all had pasta leftovers for days! Truly a great bang for your buck. Such a lovely experience! I recommend making a reservation because it's a smaller space!
This place deserves a Michelin star. We have gone at least ten times and the service and food are chef's kiss. It doesn't matter if it is a slow time or a busy time the service never fails. Shout out to Brian. And the food is always perfect and the portions are enough for your meal and lunch the next day.
Everything was great- this place has insane portions. Be prepared for leftovers. Their appetizers are great- love their salad!! My parents visited me in pgh and I brought them here. They loved their meals- my mom had chicken parm & my dad had eggplant parm- he said it was the best eggplant parm he's ever had in his life (my mom is still mad at him for that lol)

huge portions for pasta, meatballs are delicious; with this type of pasta menu you can't go wrong. but also im biased bc eating with this girl is my favorite thing to do in the world
We visited Garbarinos as part of restaurant week ... and glad we did! Our meal started with an appetizer (beans and greens) then pasta and finished up with a cannoli! Street parking (free after six) but make sure to make a reservation.. this place gets BUSY! The Brussels - to die for! The beans and greens have sauce in them too - also very good! Both appeared to be full size apps too! I was stuffed when my pasta came but it was so good! The cannoli was def a 'I will take that to go' item. Def a must got back kinda place! read more
I had high expectations for this place given the other reviews, but it unfortunately just didn't quite live up to them. No issues with service and the appetizers were fine (Brussels were fantastic, others were decent). But for my main course I ordered the special, which was gnocchi. The portion was generous which was great, but the gnocchi just wasn't cooked right. Each bite would stick inside my mouth and I had a tough time scraping the dough residue out of the inside of my mouth at times. I've ordered gnocchi many times and never once had this experience at a restaurant. I DID have a similar experience when I tried making it at home, hence why I like to instead order it out and expect it to be cooked correctly. The "house made marinara" was okay, but a little bland and watery so it wasn't enough to save the dish for me. Perhaps it was just an off night or off dish, so given the other high ratings I wouldn't necessarily write this place off, but I was certainly expecting more for a place like this. Maybe skip the gnocchi if you go here. read more

Great Italian restaurant. Honestly I thought it would be more packed when I visited, but I was surprised to see there were a fair number of tables open. This time I came in just for takeout. I got to try their rigatoni tomato cream and cannoli. The pasta was quite good. Cooked well, Al Dente, and with a fair amount and fair distribution of sauce. Decently flavorful as well. Not too expensive but a bit pricey, though. The cannoli wasn't anything too outstanding, but did hit the spot. I like how they put detail into it: one side chocolate, and the other topped with pistachio. Pretty cool. The vibe in there is great. I would recommend the spot! read more

I came here with a big group for restaurant week and we had a great time! Some of us went with the restaurant week special (which was an amazing deal!) and others ordered off the regular menu. I had the crispy Brussels which were phenomenal, the rigatoni and meatballs (not usually a fan of meatballs but the vibes told me they'd be amazing, and they were!), and cheesecake with cherry sauce for dessert. We also enjoyed the arancini and bread with garlic "sizzle" sauce. They have a great selection of cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. I had a non alcoholic Peroni and was glad to have an N/A option other than soda. Highly recommend for a good Italian dinner! One tip is that the portion sizes are huge, so come hungry or plan to share. read more

We were out and wanted to try Garbarinos. So we made reservations for 5:30 dinner. When we arrived found out that they had extended restaurant week meals, so we ordered from that. Actually, the food was phenomenal, I'm an Italian food snob and each item was excellent. The Brussel Sprouts and meatballs were delicious. The Rigatoni & Ragu was amazing and the Creamy Pesto was great. The desert was creamy cheesecake and cannoli. Definitely worth a trip when you are in Shadyside. Also easy parking in public lot behind the restaurant. read more

If you're looking for an Italian spot with HUGE portions, this is the spot for you!! We visited bring restaurant week, and the service wasn't great. I am attributing this to the fact that it was restaurant week and they were perhaps understaffed. I still plan on returning here despite that. They had one "mocktail" for dry january which was a n/a Moscow mule, pretty sure it was just lime juice and ginger beer. The food was absolutely wonderful! The meatballs were really good and the brussels were delicious. Coming from someone who doesn't like brussel sprouts. I could have eaten those as my dinner! I ordered the rigatoni tomato cream and added a crispy chicken cutlet. This was amazing and the portions are unreal big. You'll have leftovers for sure! Enough for a second meal! read more
I went for Pittsburgh restaurant week and the deal is amazing. You get an app, a pasta for your choice and dessert. Me and my friend decided to split the apps. If you go and can't decide what app to get, honestly get one of each! They are all amazing!! My friend loved the Brussel sprouts. The bread is a must especially with the roasted garlic butter. I need all my butter to taste like that now! I got the spaghetti presto Alfredo with crispy chicken and it was incredible. My friend got the rigatoni tomato cream with grilled chicken. I do recommend making a reservation because it was busy!! The service was good. I loved all the family pictures on the wall by the booths. read more

We went during restaurant week without reservations so we sat at the bar which was fine and still received good service. Food was fine. The salad was probably my favorite. Unfortunately my pasta was cold and didn't have much flavor to it. The other one was warmer and had more flavor (I believe that one was the spaghetti pesto Alfredo). Cannoli and sangria were good. The place itself is very cute looking. But I wouldn't return unfortunately. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Garbarino's for your next event !! I have always loved their restaurant for the adorable downstairs filled w family photos + GENEROUS portions on all of their entrees and the vibe. While planning my friends bridal shower, our restaurant cancelled on us and i called Andrew at garbarinos about 2 months before in a panic and he was a knight in shining armor! Told him our budget and he curated the perfect menu (baby greens, Brussels , rigatoni w tomato cream, eggplant parm, chicken piccata, and meatballs) +champagne package for our 30 women. There was SO much food and we got so many compliments saying this was the best food they've had at a bridal shower. One bridesmaid is gluten free and she was allowed to just order anything off the menu just for herself!! We brought our own table cloths and a LOT of decorations and Andrew let us in the day before to start setting up. Definitely consider them for your next shower, engagement party, or holiday dinner!!! We have wanted to try this place for quite some time so after a very long week...we went for it! I'm so glad we did. When we sat down at 5:30 there were only 2 other people eating, but by the time we left it was packed. The place itself is very old school family Italian decor and dimly lit, but quiet and comfortable. The portions are HUGE so be prepared to have a lot to take home. Starters: Meatballs - these were the best I've had in a long time. Super tender and flavorful with the perfect amount of garlic. They had a nice consistency. Aroncini: PERFECTION. Crispy outside and creamy inside. Entrees: Veal chop parmigiana (16oz) - these veal was incredibly tender and delicate.It came with a generous side of pasta too! Rigatoni with creamy red sauce and crispy chicken breast. I'm not a big fan of rigatoni, but they make their pasta in house and I have to say...fresh rigatoni is quite delightful. We left with enough food to have dinner for two nights! read more

Absolutely love this place! Food is delicious, reasonably prices, and huge portions! I always have a whole other meal for lunch or dinner the next day and I'm glad because it's so yummy! I've gone for restaurant week but also on a normal night and they've never disappointed! Service is always good & vibes are perfect for a date night and an Italian night with friends! Also - the crispy chicken cutlet is out of this world, it's huge! read more

Garbarinos is SO good. We have been going here for a few years, so I am shocked that I never left a review. The food is consistently delicious and portion sizes are huge. The owner and chef Drew is awesome and definitely knows what he's doing! My most recent visit was in February for my mom's birthday. It is her favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Our food was amazing and they have good Italian wines too. The brussel sprouts are a staple, but I was most impressed by the caprese app this time! It came with the most amazing fresh mozzarella/burrata ever! I wonder if they make it in house. It was so good. We each got different pasta dishes, and I went with a creamy pesto. 5 stars. I tried a cannoli for the first time and can say it's one of the best in Pittsburgh also. Parking can be a bit tricky on a weekend in East Liberty, but just allow enough time to find a spot and you'll be ok! Great local restaurant that my family is happy to support!! read more

Te food was excellent. I will recommend you to reserve on time. The Brussels appetizer is just incredible. The best Brussels we have ever had. I got the spaghetti carbonara, my wife the spaghetti pesto with Salmon. The restaurant has its charm and is family friendly. Definitely a restaurant to visit while in Pittsburgh. read more

We made reservations here for our family to celebrate our daughter's white coat ceremony at Pittsburgh Medical School. The inside was nice although a little dark. Our waitress brought water and menus. We ordered drinks and they were brought pretty quickly. Everyone thought the drinks were very good. The entree prices on the menu were pretty steep and I was surprised that nothing came with them. So we ordered bread at $6 a basket and salads at $12 each. Then I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and asked what pasta came with that. The waitress told me pasta wasn't included. I then asked if pasta was included with any entree and was told only the Rigatoni & Meatballs. So I ordered that. What a mistake. At $26, this was the worst meatball & pasta dish I've ever had and I've eaten in hundreds of Italian restaurants. The meatballs were crumbly, not solid. Probably too much filler and the sauce tasted like it was canned Ragu'. Never coming back here. I highly recommend you find another Italian restaurant; hopefully one that's authentic. read more
I came to Garbarinos for the first time last week and had an incredible meal!! I am a huge pasta lover so I seriously cannot believe I haven't been here sooner. The pasta dishes were phenomenal. I got the rigatoni with the tomato cream and added a meatball. My fiancé got the rigatoni with meatballs. For apps, we got their homemade bread as well as the arancini. Both were so good and I would order them again. The service was great; our waitress was so sweet! The vibe of the place is more casual. I seriously cannot wait to come back! read more
