I grabbed a pizza here, and then sat in the courtyard "food court" area rather than "dining in" at the restaurant. Beautiful ambiance and delicious authentic pizza. Yum! The service was pretty solid - no complaints. Give it a try!
The lunch special at Alta Via is one of the best deals in my opinion. Their pizza is solid, thinner crust and I like the flavor, not anything exceptional. The Cesar salad is also fairly good, I wish they had a looked less panko crumbs but pretty good deal for $12. Their regular menu options are all solid, I'd say it's a consistently good spot for Italian, and their vibe for drinks is great.
One word ... yum! We tried AVP tonight for dinner. Parking is available on the street ( but only 1 hour and monitored) so we opted to park in the garage - you get two hour free - plenty of time to order and eat. We decided to get the crispy Brussel sprouts and Italian rice balls as an app - did not disappoint. They had a basil/salami pizza special tonight - so went that route - sorry no pic but yes it was yummy! They have salads, entrees, sandwiches and pizza so next time it will be something different! I can hear the chicken parm calling me back already! Will def go back again....
Modern elegance... with pizza that tops the charts! When you first walk in, you feel like you are entering a fine dining establishment. The decor, lighting, and ambiance is super upscale and you start to wonder if you can order ooey gooey goodness with some drinks. The seating is abundant with cute two tops by the beautiful natural light, booths big enough for a family, and cute seating in the atrium that feels like a party! We were immediately greeted and seated. The staff is super friendly and they all help each other expediting, serving, and cleaning. We ordered a Hu-No Spritz and Arsenal Draft. The spritz lacked the carbonation of soda, but the fresh mint and lime were just a perfectly refreshing sip. We split a Caesar salad to pretend to be healthy. The mix of lettuce was delightful and the toppings were so lightly added that it was the perfect way to start a pizza rampage. We could barely decide what pizza to get, but we indulged in the Hot Honey Pepperoni. From the creamy vodka sauce to the gooey mozzarella to the charred cup pepperonis filled with drizzles of the sweet hot honey. This pizza immediately cracked my top 5 of the Burgh!!! The dough itself is just... pillowy, crispy, and savory all at once... and yeah.... THAT'S GOOD!!! Hot tip: They do have a pizza window. How freaking cool! So if you wanna just stop by and grab a slice or wanna take a pie home... they are rocking and ready to get you the goods.
Popping back to add some pics from a recent visit to AVP. We've enjoyed coming here a couple times in the winter. The atrium is a nice spacious place to sit and eat and let the kids run around a bit. You can order from the takeout window. Their pizza is always good. We got a pepperoni square last time. I generally like their brussels sprouts appetizer but this time it had a ton of goopy orange sauce in the bottom of the container. Not a positive addition. We did really like the roasted beets side. Beets were a perfect softness.
Alta Via Pizzeria (AVP) is a local restaurant that is in Bakery Square and serves Italian foods for lunch, dinner, and catering for dining in and takeout. AVP's menu lists appetizers (e.g., arancini and mozzarella sticks), salads, sandwiches, main courses (e.g., pizzas and chicken parmesan), desserts (e.g., tiramisu and gelato), and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. So far, I have eaten two weekday lunches here. I did not have reservations, but many tables were available. The waitresses provided very timely and friendly service. For my first lunch, my main course was mafaldini (5 stars), which had perfectly cooked noodles and a delicious spicy sauce. I added meatballs (3 stars) that tasted OK to me. My dessert was affogato (4.5 stars). I am not a coffee drinker, but I enjoyed eating vanilla gelato with some espresso in it. For my second lunch, I ate a slice of the Original cheese pizza (4.5 stars) with a combo Chopped Salad (5 stars) and a slice of the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza (4 stars). The slices were large and had a nicely chewy crust and flavorful toppings. The salad contained delicious ingredients of greens, salami, mozzarella, chickpeas, giardiniera, pine nuts, basil, and red wine vinaigrette.
I stopped by for a quick dinner yesterday and seated myself at the bar. The bar consists of seats at the actual bar itself along with some small high tops in the general vicinity. They have pretty good happy hour specials every day from 4-6pm, even on weekends. The bar was busy for a random Tuesday! I ordered my food and was about to get in and out fairly quickly. The side salad was good and so was the parm sandwich!
We have been to AV Pizza three times and get something different every time. Before I talking about food, I want to say the service is always great there. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. We have had the meatballs too but they were just ok in my opinion. This kid had the cheese sticks. They looked huge, crunchy and cheesy. Need to try those next time. We had the cacio e Pepe pizza last time. We love cacio e Pepe pasta and hoped it would be as good but it sadly wasn't. Other pizzas that people had looked really good. I would like to try the square or pepperoni sometime. My husband really enjoyed his meatball sandwich. The Mafaldini was good but the flavor was not super strong. It was a little disappointing. I also wish they had a few more pastas on the menu. I know it's a pizza place but still. I prefer the pastas at the regular Alta Via much better. It's still a good restaurant and I'd like to come on a weekend where you could try individual slices of pizza.
Located in Bakery Square and part of Big Burrito group, AVP offers a menu of pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, desserts, and drinks. The bar hosts happy hour from 4-6pm featuring bites, drafts, cocktails, and wine. While the cacio e pepe pizza didn't quite measure up to my expectations, the square vodka pizza (vodka sauce, mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, basil, pepperoni) was delicious. The gingerbread tiramisu (whipped mascarpone, gingerbread crumb, espresso, ladyfingers, cocoa) was an amazing seasonal offering!
We ordered from the takeout window and sat in the space between the restaurant area and the city kitchen area. We ordered several slices. When they first brought out our order, one of the slices was wrong--not a big deal, but instead of just taking the one slice back, they took our whole order back and then when they brought it back some of the slices had cooled down and weren't as hot. The pizza was good. The specialty slice had a drizzle made to look like a spiderweb, which was cute. Overall, I would come back!

With chickpeas, pine nuts, salami, and field greens, it was fresh and flavorful--but not exactly what you'd expect from something labeled "chopped." Still, no complaints on the taste. The standout of the night was the Hot Honey Chicken pizza--a perfect balance of sweet and spicy with a crispy crust. We split everything, and it was just the right amount for a casual, no-fuss dinner. I've been to Alta via - but never the pizzeria & wow am i disappointed in myself for that one. This place was . Honestly everything was great. The salad was fresh, pizza came out hot, and the atmosphere is off the charts. So many great concepts in one location. Will be back!
The mushroom pizza was freaking delicious, nice thin crust and thin white sauce; the hot honey pepperoni was cheesy and packed with flavor, thicker bread and filled. Wow, and the brussel sprouts were burnt to an absolute crisp they were delicious, understandably not everyone's style but they are for sure mine. I like this John guy sitting next to me, good guy.
Nice space. Well run. Somewhat uninspired food. As a general rule, I tend to avoid the various dining establishments attached to Bakery Square. I've never really been impressed by any of them. On that scale, AVP was actually pretty good. The dining area was nice, with clear design concepts and enough space that each table appeared to be a bit of a private space. The staff were also very much on the ball. Systems were in place. People were on top of things. In terms of food, we ordered takeout. The online ordering experience was pretty good. The packaging was great. Everything was labeled extremely clearly. The food was good in a very real sense, but never exceptional. The restaurant made attempts to pair interesting sauces and layers to the various vegetable appetizers, but none of them came across as exceptional. The artichokes were good, and maybe my favorite from among the sides. The greek salad was a standout favorite for the freshness of ingredients and coherence of the dressing. That felt like a win. The pizza was good but not exceptional. We ordered a few slices to try them out, and the crust was legitimately top notch for the style. Any toppings were just okay, and the variety of slices available for order was disappointing. I would have aimed for a little more red sauce on the plain slice, but I understand the tradeoffs there. All told, this might be one of the better options in Bakery Square, particularly if you're dining in. It's thoughtful. It's well run. At the same time, the food fell short of being legitimately impressive. read more
At least ten visits in the last three years: great bar program and solid kitchen. Granted that the menu can be dynamic, some highlights: The mozzarella sticks are archetypical. Amazing. Five per order. Get these. Semolina crusted zucchini: yummy. Like someone dared a chef to take a normally healthy vegetable and render it in a way like on to junk food and chef said, "challenge accepted!" One slice of the pepperoni cut in half is still enough food. Delicious. The crust is really good enough to think of it almost as another snack once you have finished the pizza. Sprinkle some Parmesan and pepper flakes on your plate and press it into the crust. Sublime. The broccolini with chili oil is an unexpected delight. I love the grill on the vegetable. Moxxie comments that it should actually be cooked even further. Salads are excellent. Front of house is consistently excellent. read more

Met up with my gal pals for some pre-Christmas cheer at AVP. Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere with subdued lighting and cozy booths. Shared some apps- great zucchini, good meatballs, ok French fries and a fantastic slice of pepperoni plus cocktails. Gianna took great care of us! We all agreed AVP was a great pic and we'll be back. read more
Great pizza restaurant! The atmosphere is very modern and upscale vibes, but still casual and welcoming to everyone. We started off dinner with an order of their homemade mozzarella sticks. They were incredible and probably the best I've ever had. The appetizer dish came with 5 large mozzarella sticks that had a nice layer of crispy breading on the outside that mixed breading with Italian seasoning and of course had a meltedcheese interior. It also came with freshly made roasted tomato sauce and Calabrian chili ranch on the side for dipping. We ordered the Ya Gotta Ricotta square pizza to share between my husband and I, it was delicious! The blend of fresh mozzarella and other cheeses on top of the thick dough made for a gooey and delicious bite. On top were plenty of pepperoni, cherry tomatoes, ricotta and a drizzle of hot honey. The flavors blended perfectly and balanced each other out for an incredible taste. Only way it could have been better would have been a very thin layer of marinara or white sauce below the cheese to help with the density of the dough. We even had leftovers since the pizza was so filling with 8 slices. Best part was that I signed up for their email program and received our $28 pizza for free as my Birthday gift! Pizzas were delicious! We got the romeo, prosciutto, and buffalo chicken pies. They were so tasty with thick crust. Perfect slice sizes. We ordered takeout, but i'd definitely have to go in person to get a better take on the space! read more

1/29/25 Ate List: Round Pizzas: Original - 8.2 Pepperoni and Taleggio - 8.6 Really solid spot. Had been meaning to try this pizza for a while. Flavor of the original is good. VERY thin. VERY light. It is delicious but also very plain (if that's what you're after, you should be happy). The Pepperoni and Taleggio really caught me off guard and I really enjoyed it. Slight kick. Perfect small pepperonis. Both pizzas had a good tasting crust. Really great all around. The atmosphere and quality is a little higher which shows in the price tag. We got these two pizzas for about $45. A little steep but that's the only knock I have for it. If my total was closer to $30, this would become a near weekly spot for us. read more

Classic gem in Bakery Square! Love coming to Alta Via but I definitely recommend a reservation. Came for happy hour but turns out happy hour is only for bar seating (as a heads up)! With so many options it was hard to pick which pizzas to order. Tried the ramp pizza (a special) and it was delicious! Crowd pleaser for sure. Also got classics like the prosciutto and pepperoni rounds which were also delicious. I ordered a Hugo spritz and tasted more like water than anything and my friends spritz's also tasted really diluted. So if you order drinks definitely get the normal cocktails and not the spritz's! My friend's bee's knees was great. read more
I've been here a couple times and it's really just so good. Most recently, a friend and I shared the burrata and a buffalo chicken pizza. We loved both! Not only is the food amazing, but the space is so cute. I love that the huge windows allow a lot of natural light and there is greenery throughout the restaurant. Service is also always quick and friendly with recommendations as needed. read more

Sat at the bar for happy hour, they had cheap apps and good drink deals. bartender was friendly and attentive. The portion sizes are huge, so many leftovers and reasonably priced. They were decorated for xmas so it was cozy and warm. Highly recommend read more
Solid pizza joint if you're looking for something more upscale than take-out. We've been a few times and I keep not leaving a review because we eat the pizza faster than I can remember to take a picture! Our most recent visit, service was a bit slow but we also went during the holidays when there were only three other tables seated in the restaurant. We got the round pepperoni and taleggio pizza and some cocktails, and it was all delicious as always. read more
I see I last reviewed this spot when it was takeout only. I have now been here at least four times since they opened for dine in so I feel qualified to review it again. It's a beautiful place to eat, and although the focus is on being a pizzeria, there are plenty of non-pizza items if there are folks in your party who want to branch out, such as salads, sandwiches and pastas that you might be familiar with from their other locations. I've never had a sandwich here but their pastas are amazing and I can't recommend them highly enough, particularly the mafaldini with vodka sauce. I'm also a huge fan of the appetizers, particularly the olives and Arancini. I am usually at this location however for pizza. If you come here during your birthday month with a big burrito restaurants birthday email (sign up for their list!) you will get a full pizza or entrée for free, which I did in October. On my last couple of visits I sat at the bar for pizza slices. On this visit I was redeeming my Pittsburgh Pizza Passport. They had three slices available today: square, one with pepperoni and one classic plain. As a vegetarian the classic plain was my only option, but I'm very happy with that here. I also ordered a simple blood orange San Pellegrino. Bar service is quick and attentive, the person next to me was ordering multiple alcoholic drinks but I never felt pressured to order more than my slice and soda. The classic slice here is perfectly done. Not Neapolitan thin but not too thick, perfect amount of cheese, a little bit of basil. It's just right and one of my favorite slices in the city. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I ordered a pizza with extra toppings, and they rushed it out without even putting them on. When I sent it back, instead of fixing it properly, they gave me the toppings in a separate container on top of the box. That's not what I paid for. If I'm spending extra money, I expect it to be done right the first time not handed to me on the side like an afterthought. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

Alta via pizzeria really snuck up on me. I went a few time when they first opened and enjoyed it. It has slowly become my families go to pizza place. I do have to say take out is the way to go. The few times I've dined in the service has been slow and there's a very grumpy woman working the bar. I was also surprised that even though they have a full bar they only have can soda. My family loves getting take out and eating on the lawn to let the kiddos run around. I would definitely recommend getting pizza here. Beats anything you'd get at city kitchen. read more

My 1st time grabbing lunch at AVP. Service was great for a Monday and being a holiday. We ordered the chicken parm sandwich and the meatball hoagie. Immediately as the food was delivered to our table, I could tell there was not enough red sauce for either dish. The server did bring me some extra which was both much needed and appreciated. I tried both the sandwich and hoagie and preferred the Chicken Parm here which surprised me because I love meatball hoagies. The parking was free in a garage close by. Overall, I would dine for lunch at AVP again. read more

Was excited to try this since I've heard good things about AVP's pizza but was slightly disappointed by the quality of the pizza. Shared an appetizer and a round pizza with my friend. The actual burrata ratio to the sides was off. Salad turned out good tho! Unfortunately the pizza was slight burnt causing the crust to harden. Perhaps I've ordered the wrong type and should have stuck with their square pizza. Service was slow with an unexpected crowd while I was there on a Monday. My husband and I wanted to find something upgraded but also very easy and AVP was exactly what we wanted! Walking in, the restaurant has a cool vibe and the staff were very welcoming! Once seated, the menu had so many options it was hard to choose what to get. The waitress gave us some good direction. We were also happy that they had happy hour deals on a Saturday! We ultimately decided on two pizzas - their special of the day and one of their classics. The special pizza (Calabrian chili and sausage) had a nice kick and it was full of flavor, and their classic pizza (Fig and Brie) was sweet and was a nice complement to the spicy of the other one. We also got the Semolina Crusted Zucchini, which had a delicious salty crust to the sweet zucchini. We cannot wait to go back again and try something different next time! read more
