So we were driving to Fredericksburg and stumbled along this restaurant in Buda, TX. We sat down to Covid seating and was greeted by a speedy waitress. Now keep in mind she was probably the only waitress servicing the Inside. I ordered the steak and eggs which sounded amazing since I didn't have actual breakfast in quite some time. 20 minutes later, Ruby our waitress advises me that there that they are out of steak. That information would have been helpful 20 minutes earlier when I ordered it. So I settled for the basic breakfast. The eggs were almost well done and the potatoes were just meh! Some of the best Mexican food I've had in the area. I love that there rice doesn't have a bunch of tomato skins in it. Their chicken tortilla soup is FANTASTIC. They are a little pricey for the portion sizes, but it's delicious and you're supporting local business so you can't go wrong! read more

Solid small town Tex-Mex. That's the short version. But I'm rating them above average for several reasons. First, the service is stellar. Tea, chips, salsa kept full without asking. Moreover, the server was friendly. The food came out correctly and quickly, which is a bonus for a lunch meeting. The best part of their menu is the ability to create any kind of taco all day. I couldn't decide between chicken enchiladas and their spinach artichoke enchiladas, and the server told me that I could get one of each as an enchilada plate rather than two of the same. I ended up loving both enchiladas. Our server was really sweet and the food was awesome. read more

Really disappointed with my recent takeout order- the tacos I received were cold. This is the second time this has happened to me after placing an order online. I don't usually drive through Buda in the mornings because I live on the East side and have to drive to Austin for work. BUT few restaurants in and around Austin have good tortillas like Garcia's. So, when I decide I want to order breakfast tacos from there, it takes extra planning on my part so I can have enough time to pick up breakfast and head North. Yesterday was one such day, however, bc the phone was not answered after trying to call multiple times, I placed an order online. Simple order, bean and chorizo tacos (bc - you CANNOT order bean and cheese tacos online, the option is literally not available, you have to order two proteins). When I arrived at the restaurant the lady at the window said there had been a 30 taco order placed ahead of mine. Whoa, that's a lot. No biggie though, I'll wait. 20 minutes later, window lady brings out the 30 taco order to a police officer and tells me it will still be another few minutes before my order is ready. Okay, no problem. I waited patiently and with excitement. Finally, my order is ready I am handed my togo bag and off I go to work. Once on the highway, I open my first taco to find it COLD. Not like, tepid. COLD. As if it had been sitting out - away from a heat lamp - for 20 minutes. The taco was an awful, cold, mushy, salt-bomb. I had to eat the taco despite my disgust because I need to have food with my medication and it had already been 45 minutes since I took my meds. As I said before, this is the second time this has happened to me and though the first time I never complained, I did call. The manager offered to make new tacos if I returned but I had to get to work in Austin. She then offered give me a comp to get the same tacos in the future, which I'll say was a nice gesture, but too little too late. I will never place an online order to this restaurant again. The lack of communication between front of the house staff and back of the house staff is consistently poor for takeout orders. Perhaps I will return to give the sit-down a try but honestly, everything I've had there so far is incredibly salty and I'm not sure it's entirely worth taking another risk. read more

I love the Tex-Mex servings from the Buda restaurant. It's all good! If you are a fan of Menudo then this is THE place for your Menudo fix. There is not a lot of seating inside and limited seating outside. Which can leave you grinding your teeth and slobbering if there a number of customers. But the wait is worth it. read more

I can't believe I have yet to review this place. Let's say this, it's my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant. There are so many amazing things about this place. For starters, they have the best salsa and chips I've ever had. Not even exaggerating. Secondly, they have the absolute best staff. I really love them and look forward to seeing them every time I go. I usually order breakfast tacos, but I highly (x 10) recommend you try the beef nortena taco. It's a solid 10. Friday - Sunday they serve menudo and beef soup which is very delicious. They also have wonderful lunch specials and you have any of them on any day of the week. The sweet tea and coffee is another fave. I live in south Austin and have made this place my "go-to" restaurant. It's worth the little extra drive as it's in downtown Buda. Had high hopes for this place given the reviews, but I'm gonna chalk it up to a bad day. Service was just horrible, server tried to remember the order and forgot a dish, so one person watched everyone else eat and when we finished, his food showed up. We never got our coffee and then they mixed up our tea with sweet rather then unsweet. Get it together guys. We got the menudo, tripa taco, and a barbacoa taco. Menudo was descent, barbacoa was ok, had to ask for cilantro and onions, tripa taco was the better. Tortillas are not fresh made, we might return but not likely. I would give service 1 star, food was 3. They did comp the late meal. read more

Meh..I really don't get all the fawning reviews. This is TexMex fare as mediocre as it comes. Everything is over-salted, which I would normally think might be a ploy to increase cerveza and 'rita sales. Except for one thing: Garcia's does. Not. Sell. Alcohol. Yep..a Mexican restaurant bereft of margaritas or Dos Equis. WTF? Don't get me wrong, the joint is OK. But why go back unless you lived like three blocks away or something, when there's so many many good/better TexMex offerings in the area? Ones where you can get a cold beer or a Cuervo Rita, amigos!
