Came here after a lingering afternoon across the street at the beer garden. Hankering for some pub grub, my daughter and I shared some pickle spears and we each had a burger. Service was good from this eclectic bunch of waitstaff, but it was pleasant and efficient. The fried pickle spears were not breaded enough, but the remoulade dipping sauce was a nice change from the typical ranch dressing. Our "standard" burgers were char-grilled, greasy and perfectly seasoned. The double fried fries were crispy and tasty. Will have to return to try some of their BBQ offerings, but if you are in need of a burger, don't overlook this spot either! read more

Awesome spot to enjoy food and drinks! And the COVID system is awesome. You add your name to a waitlist to be seated outdoors. You also place your order and pay online so they try to keep it as contact free as possible. I had the rose cider and ordered mac and cheese, hush puppies and fries...because I was trying to be healthy. I enjoyed everything! My friends ordered the burger and onion rings and enjoyed it as well. Prices are very reasonable. They also have outdoor heaters so they'll be well prepared for winter and colder weather. We were also treated to a round of the offshoot hazy ipa since the brewmaster happened to be here. He bought a round for everyone and it was really nice of him! Garden District always delivers: consistently excellent food, beer, wine, service, and atmosphere. Also very dog-friendly. They serve up some of the best BBQ around. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but their fried chicken sandwich is phenomenal (a constant craving). They have a thoughtful, intriguing, well-balanced offering of beer, and perhaps unexpectedly, a delightful and unique selection of wine, and they make an effort to secure some limited releases and other special, novel, or somewhat rare items. You can also find cider, liquor (including some approachable, good bourbon), hard seltzer, and non-alcoholic beverages on the menu. GD are good people: the staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, and on top of it, and provide excellent, no-frills service that keeps the food and drink moving and the vibe laid back. They give a damn about their business and about you. Also, even at their busiest, the bathrooms are clean and stocked, which is a testament to their diligence and care. With the prime location, ample outdoor space, and wide appeal of beer garden fare, GD doesn't have to go as hard as it does. Garden District would be my go-to spot just from the dependably excellent food, drink, and convenience alone, but above all, it is their diligent and friendly staff and the easy, convivial environment they work so hard to provide that keeps me (and basically everyone I know) coming back. That, and my apparent addiction to their fried chicken. FYIs: It's outdoor patio self-seating, mostly large shared picnic tables and some smaller 2-4 tops. Usually not hard to find a spot and people are friendly and generally willing to make room for a small group/pair when it's packed. Order with QR codes at your table, but you can also order from the bar. Service is pretty quick. Self-serve water from either of the two jugs (there are sleeves of plastic cups next to them), which are constantly refilled with fresh, cool water. I'm on a mission this holiday season to hit every single festive bar in the city. This weekend I went to Garden District which was beautifully decorated with all the things one needs to feel cheerful. Plus it was outdoors for ~maximum ventilation~ & had heaters for the chilly nights! That being said, I also like to leave my house a maximum of one time a week lol so i don't know how feasible this goal is but its nice to dream! I came to Garden District on a Saturday afternoon while in the area grabbing ice cream nearby. There is plenty of seating outside, dog friendly and friendly staff... what more could I ask for :) My friends and I arrived in the early afternoon, after about an hour this place was packed! There are draft, bottles and cans and wine options. If you are looking for something to eat, there are some food options as well. I had a bite of my friend's Four Grilled Cheese and it was delicious, bread was perfectly toasted and covered in cheese :) I really wish I brought my dogs, I will definitely be back in the future and would recommend Garden District. read more

Came here for a quick drink while waiting for a reservation at Le Diplomate and this place came thru! We ordered 2 different kinds of beer. I ordered the tiniest size because I was about to eat brunch so I didn't want to fill myself up with carbs haha. My boyfriend is obsessed with German beer and he really liked this place a lot! The place was a small beer garden in the Logan Circle neighborhood. It's by a corner street and there are only outside seating so don't go when it's raining. There are umbrellas covering the chairs so I guess you can still go when it's not raining as hard. We sat by the picnic tables connected to the tree and I love people watching from there. I believe you can order wine too. I also saw from other reviews that you can order a whole pigs head barbequed and eat it, LIKE WHAT?! I want to do that, I will update my review when my friends and I do that haha! But it said you have to order in advance because they only cook 2 pig's heads apparently. This place is definitely great when the weather is nice. Not sure if there are bathrooms but there are fans attached to the door walls that will provide some air during hot weather. This tiny beer garden is my happy place on 14th Street. From just looking at it, you wouldn't guess that this place has some of the best food in DC... BUT IT DOES!!! Everything on the menu is amazing-- the burger, the bratwurst, the fries, the onion rings, the grilled cheese, etc. You really can't go wrong. And the prices are so reasonable! My go-to order lately has been the cheeseburger with fries and it is consistently perfect every time. I'll usually get a grapefruit radler to wash it all down or one of their old-school sodas (the root beer is amazing)! Pro Tip: this place is amazing in the winter-- they decorate the entire outdoor space with Christmas decorations, Christmas lights, heaters, etc-- and they serve spiked hot apple cider! Such a fun experience! My friend and I walked in and got an outside table immediately on a weekend evening. We each ordered by scanning the QR code and placing an order online. 14th street continues to rise from obscurity into the next "go to" neighborhood in NW with the addition of it's own Beer Garden. Just in time for amazing temperatures, the Standard gives German and American beer staples in a no frills out door location on the corner of 14th and S street, a location that used to be a Garden District store (now across the street in a larger space). Thier beer menu is short, about 10 beers, 5-6 on tap but with Heffs, lagers and IPAs from microbrews both domestic and international, they have everything you'd want, taste wise, for a good price (between $5-10 for a liter)! There is some inside seating at bar stools but the best part of the garden is to snuggle up to their large wooden tables with some friends (or make new friends). They have wall mounted heaters for cooler evenings, and they are building additional seating along side the building. The menu has some sausages, BBQ, pretzels and fries for nosh, but the very small upstairs kitchen was quickly overwhelmed and they stopped taking orders when we arrived! Fast and friendly service and the dire need for more outdoor seating spaces on 14th street guarantees this place a strong client base through the fall! I can't wait to return! Brisket sandwich is generously stuffed, however, the barbecue brisket is tough, dry, and rather flavorless underneath the tasty barbecue sauce. Burger was better, and was so juicy to the point that the lower bun really couldn't hold up; eventually switched to guns - used a fork. Hush puppies were excellent, and were fried to a dark brown crunch that protected a sweet and moist interior. High marks for beer. Grapefruit-infused beer on tap was refreshing, and especially good consumed outside on a bench. Bells Two-Hearted is always good. Fortunately, reasonable prices. We started our day drinking at the Garden District shortly after we finished brunch nearby. We didn't order any food, but my friends and I ordered drinks. I'm not sure exactly how big this spot is, but from the looks of it, it was pretty small. We sat outside at picnic tables on the patio, and although very warm, there were large fans blowing at us, so it kept us cool the entire time. There was a small space inside, not much room for sitting or standing. There is supposedly an upstairs area as well, but I didn't go up there. There are limited bathrooms (one downstairs and one upstairs). There are several beer options--and in different sizes (pint or liter). They also have gluten-free beers! I went with the Citizen Cider, which was okay. I guess I could have gone for something a bit more refreshing on a sweltering hot day. The service was fast, although the waitress wasn't very nice. It almost seemed as if she couldn't be bothered. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt that the humid hot weather made her grumpy. I suppose I'd be pretty grumpy too if I had to run around serving a bunch of loud tipsy/drunk people on a steamy day. read more

It's not exactly convenient for me to get there, and the first time only ended up here because it was just too hot out to keep walking to our original destination. But, I'm glad we stopped here the first time, and each time since. First, the employees are always friendly, and seem to have their act together on being attentive to their customers (and their dogs). Without asking, they're always quick to bring a water bowl over for your pup. Also, they're good about knowing their menu/beers and answering any questions you have. Food, it's pretty good or I wouldn't be making the trek over to 14th street on the weekend. I don't really want to write a review because of selfish reasons, but the short-rib is really great, and a pretty good deal. BBQ sandwiches and bratwurst is also good. It's outdoor seating, but they have lots of umbrellas and giant fans blowing a breeze. It does get crowded quickly on nice days, but it's worth it. Beer - good selection to keep most people happy. The fries were tasty, nicely seasoned, and accompanied the burger well. Now speaking of the burger... By Gawd! Every bite I took was full of flavor, and the meat was juicy and tender. It was a simple build of a burger with your typical toppings and sauce, but it still managed to blow this girl's tastebuds. My favorite part of the restaurant formerly known as Standard is the waiter that calls me/everyone "brother." It makes me feel like he's giving me/everyone as good service as he would give his family. My second favorite part is the menu, which is simple, but thoughtful. Aside from the pig head, which yuppies seem to order just to instagram. (BBQ food is better than the German food, it seems). My third favorite part is the guy who walks around with 50% melancholy and 50% hope that people will purchase his $1 donuts. My fourth favorite part is that the beer comes in a big gulp. (But I usually get the little gulp so that my beer isn't warm by the time I get to the bottom). One of my favorite beer gardens just based off of service alone. The people here are always amazing. Very outgoing, talkative, friendly. There's never been a bad time here every time I've gone. I love that they're open all year round, even when it's cold there are the outdoor heaters which keeps the entire area warm. Their selection for both drinks and food are always amazing. Their seating is great so if you come with a group, you can definitely enjoy each other's company, have great conversations, and eat and drink comfortably. During the winter, they close off a section of the outer tables, but that's fine because it's still plenty of seating. This time around I wanted to try their seasonal drinks, so I got a hot boozy cider. Absolutely delicious and perfect for the cold weather. Very strong too. I thought it was pretty small for $7.27 price tag (Size of $1 McDonald's burger size). My friend said pulled pork sandwich was good but not exceptionally better than other BBQ places. Standard is pretty much that. Standard. I had a pretty good BBQ beef brisket sandwich on a sesame bun for $8, (no fries or slaw). You have to buy everything seperately, which means this meal could get a little pricey. The sandwhich was packed with meat, not really tender, but it was'nt dry either. The beers and ales ranged from $4 to $9. The outdoor seating was pleasant and the day was nice. The area is small right next to Pulp. The good thing is, the servers get mixed up and bring you other people's food, so you can try things for free! In our case we copped a big slab of the beef short rib. It was gigantic, and in many areas was filled with lots of fat. I think it's safe to say 3 people could split the short rib. I would not mind coming back, but 1st I I would like to venture out and see what else the DC BBQ scene has to offer. read more
