Do not buy from this company! I placed a large order several months ago, and several plants were missing from my order and the plants that did arrive arrived diseased. Their customer service was hostile, rude, and refused to provide a resolution, and then stopped replying and has now ghosted me for 2 MONTHS (they have not replied to my numerous contact attempts asking for an update on the missing plants and a resolution for the diseased plants). I am now out money and the plants, as they died shortly after arrival. To add insult to injury, I never received the missing plants. This company clearly does not care about their customers, the quality of their plants, or fulfilling orders correctly. This experience has been without a doubt the worst customer service I have ever experienced, and I wish I would have seen these reviews before throwing away $500. 1 star -- buyer beware. I ordered a flat of 50 Vinca minor plugs. What arrived was nothing close to the example photo Garden Goods Direct later sent me showing what their "typical" flat looks like. The plugs were extremely small and weak -- typically literally one strand with only a few leaves -- and several fell apart in my hands during planting. After receiving a healthy flat from a different vendor for comparison, it was 100% clear the product I received was substandard. I requested store credit -- not a refund, not a replacement -- just credit toward a future purchase, since I had more plants to buy. Support asked for photos. I sent them, including direct comparisons to the healthy plugs from the other vendor and to their own example photo. Then they went silent. Four follow-up emails over the past week. No response. No acknowledgment. Nothing. The quality issue alone might have been forgivable as a bad batch. The complete refusal to respond once I provided the documentation they asked for is what makes this a hard pass. purchased pachysandra described as 50 plants for $100. It arrived bag up a little bit but still useable. The box was a little bit larger than the size a case of a can of beers. The plants were all stuffed together and not seperated in tiny pots as I expected. There was no way I could count the plants since as I said they were jammed together. I reached out to customer service and they eventually emailed me and initially thought they had sent the wrong order and again reached out and said the order was as it should be and made no attempt to deal with my dissappoinment. I received a Ruby Falls Redbud tree, and one of the main weeping branches was broken in shipping. I provided many photos and sent my message. I read that their message stated it could take up to 72 hours for a reply, and, of course, I checked my spam folder. no reply. I escalated to another platform and received a reply:Thank you for reaching out and we are sorry that a branch broke in shipping. We unfortunately don't have any more of these trees to be able to send a replacement but the damage isn't that bad and will heal over the winter. We are offering a 15% discount, the difference will be applied to your account with us as store credit for you to use whenever you like. That is not what I expected. I don't want a 15% discount in their store if they don't stand behind their products! I want a new tree. If I have to wait, it is ok but this tree which I am forced to plant is not. I spent $3006.29 for 36 juniper trees for my yard. Upon delivery, trees showed signs of poor health, (brown spots, curling tips, but I figured that was expected with the shipping process and they would recover with proper attention. Within days of delivery and planting, many of the trees were browning. I reached out to Garden Goods at day 10 with pictures of the dying trees. I was told to continue to water. Three weeks later, 27 of the 36 trees were completely dead. I reached back out to Garden Goods and they said that there was nothing they could do (besides a discounted reorder). I insisted that there was no way these trees were in healthy condition when delivered for them to die that quickly. Too bad. Paraphrasing, but I basically got "You should have purchased the warranty". I researched 8 of the biggest online nurseries and every single one of them have at least a 30 day guarantee. Only Garden Goods has "all sales final" and have no guarantee of their product, unless you buy a warranty. The warranty for my order was a $400 add on. I sent a follow up email with pictures and practically begged for them to help me out. Once again, they came back by blaming me for not buying the warranty. Maybe I'm the sucker for thinking that a seemingly reputable company wouldn't deliver 36 dying trees. And if they did, try and make it right. But I was wrong. So now I'm out $3000 for the trees, $800 for a professional planter and scores of hours of my life, watering, fertilizing and coddling these poor trees which were never had a chance. For context, Fast Growing Trees and Stark Bros have one year guarantees. Great Garden Plants, 60 days. Eureka Farms, Simple Trees, Cold Stream Farms, The Sill offer 30 days. The shrubs arrived packed nicely and appear to be in good condition, HOWEVER..... the water collars were not in the single box that was delivered. They were charged to my credit card for $79.45. I have followed the instructions to report the issue via email as their recorded message states. I got back "Your Order Has Been Delivered, with a copy of my order and fed ex link showing the order was delivered. I resent my complaint to the same email address and it was rejected saying the account cannot be located. OUR ENTIRE order was never delivered to us. I purchased a large order of plants in late September since grasses should be planted in the fall. All the Pink Muhly grasses 3 two gallon plants and 1 one gallon Japanese forest grass didn't make it through the winter after dormancy in late November. I do not know if they died in November or sometime later since they go dormant and don't arise until spring. I contacted the company to let the know the other plants were fine but these didn't make it and I'd like either a replacement or refund. They stated if I didn't purchase some extra insurance ( I did purchase extra shipping protection) they won't do either. It makes me wonder if they send inferior plants out to those that don't buy this additional coverage. I believe my credit card offers purchase protection so I'm looking into that. BEWARE - this merchant doesn't stand behind their product. I ordered an eastern red bud tree, and when it arrived it had been packaged in a way that it had bent the tree trunk to a nearly 90-degree angle. Upon submitting pictures and a complaint to Garden Goods Direct, I received a ridiculous response from an agent telling me to simply stake the tree. The tree was undoubtedly damaged from being packaged in this way, and then spending multiple days in transit in that fashion. If I could give a zero I would. I purchased my trees in May 2023. All dead or on last breath. Look like crap. None will survive. What was supposed to be start of privacy fence over time is eyesore. Please read and tread carefully before you spend a single $, as products weak and won't last. Even if you have purchased insurance and can get replacements that will probably also die u til they deny a future claim after 1 year expires. I even had insurance...but got screwed. When I bought the products they were not the correct size I ordered and basically dead. I could tatted the company and got new trees sent. I had to pay shipping. I planted the new trees which as you can see in pictures are dead or about dead. When I attempted to get replacement or refund they said no because my insurance was used....my insurance was used getting the product I was supposed to get when I ordered and did not get greed that were right size or alive. If 1,2, or 3 of trees out of 12 died. I would take this as valid response. But all of them are dead or about to die. I tried to leave my email so all can email me for pictures and be forwarded the customer service responses. Trust pilot unfortunately does not allow this. Customer service "Robin" then attempted to say "too much mulch or rocks" like I caused the trees to die. But only 2/12 trees had any rocks near them. There was limited mulch too. They then tried to suggest I didn't plant correctly when I used a product for roots to grow and mixed with appropriate amount of fresh soil. I was very Disappointed and you will be too either at receipt of product or after a year of Caring and seeing nothing. Go to a local nursery and spend $ there. You may not get as many trees but you will get established roots that will grow and thrive. I will try to get the pictures up on yelp. Yelp reviews are an average 1.5 . I ordered 2 Magical ruby red hydrangeas at $120 each (3 gallon size ). They arrived poorly packaged and the leaves were black and mushy The stems were blackened and no way were they 3 gallon plants . They were 2 gallon plant in a 3 gallon pot . No flowers on them ,too early ,just leaves and brow /black branches /stocks . I purchased the insurance but I made it clear they were poorly packaged but these plants were frozen ,or frost bite . They were sent out like this, THEN packaged poorly . I've been ordering from garden goods for the last 3 years. There packing is the best by far. I'm sure the plants will always look smaller than the pics. If your plant dies after 3 weeks you've probably over watered it. If your plant dies before 3 weeks probably not enough water. I've killed one too many plants by not doing exactly what their instructions say. Buy yourself a water gauge/meter. Don't use miracle grow! Just follow the instructions! Mulch, fertilize, good dirt and maybe some pest granull. Maybe i've been lucky on my deliverlies but if I've had any problems they've taken care of it. I agree with all sub one star reviews, I am sad that I neglected to do my research on this company before placing an order with them. CAVEAT EMPTOR with this company. I ordered (4) 'Show Off Sugar Baby Dwarf Forsythia' to replace badly damaged plants from our tragic winter storm in Texas. Due to the storm I had to order online since local inventory is non existent. The plants arrived STACKED on top of one another. 2 gallon plants. The bottom plants were clearly crushed, and I have no idea how anyone would expect these to survive transit. I sent pictures and the feedback from the company's customer service was they would give me a 25% discount- obviously a ploy to spend more $$ with them, and likely receive further damaged goods in a never ending cycle. I also purchased a warranty which is also now not available to apply to this damage. They may be alive, but for $50 per plant, I would expect more than a living rootball. Frustrated and disappointed. Also on BBB and other customers, please note influx of 5 star reviews that seem to be pushed on 2/23/2021 to help boost this rating. This was my first time ordering from Garden Goods Direct aka Woodie's Garden Center. We placed a fairly large order (roughly 50 plants) and were overall really pleased with the products and service. We ordered 40 cherry laurel plants to be used as a privacy hedge. They were a bit smaller than I expected. I could have probably gotten a larger size at a local garden center for roughly the same price, however it's currently the tail end of COVID and sourcing these plants locally would have meant driving around to 5-6 garden centers to get all the plants we needed. We also ordered some evergreens, colorful shrubs, and a black lace elderberry tree as accents. I expected the plants to come in dozens of boxes but they fit everything in only 8 boxes. They did an amazing job with packaging. The plants were all in great shape at arrival. I think they are based in MD but ship nationally. Luckily, we live in MD so shipping took about 24 hours once our items were ready to ship. Our order arrived a week earlier than expected! They didn't have the elderberry plant that I ordered but they sent me a smaller size and a small refund. read more

I have planted over 250 arbovitae in past 20 years. I ordered 3 dozen plus Arbovitae and some plants from Garden Goods. Almost all trees have turned yellow. Requested to fulfill my warranty over 2 months ago. And still no results. They have a very well laid out and professional website and I fear that is why they receive as much business as they do. Yes they have some exceptionally low prices on many of the products listed, unfortunately that savings does come with a price, quality! I ordered 18 spartan junipers from them initially but had to change the order at the last minute, after several days of calling them, with messages left, they never called back. I was forced to alter my order via email and at this point did not expect to receive any response via email either. I did find out my order was corrected, only through receiving updated order information. After a few weeks of not hearing anything I was beginning to think this was a scam, again I attempted to email and call only to be ignored. Luckily i finally received notification via UPS the trees had been shipped, unfortunately they shipped them at the end of the week, leaving them to sit in a hot warehouse for an additional three days without water. I was able to convince UPS to intercept locally and make a special delivery, so thankfully they did arrive the next day and I was able to get them watered. The trees were shipped two per box, the packaging was terrible and incapable of protecting the trees during transit, two of them had the tops snapped off when they arrived. It was quite apparent the trees were yanked out of the ground early, tossed into a plastic pot with barely enough soil to actually fill the pot and poorly packaged for transit. The root balls on these trees were extremely immature with less of a chance for survival once planted. I attempted to reach out to them concerning the damaged goods which was a result of poor packaging and as expected NO RESPONSE. If your looking to save a few dollars through this nursery, DON'T. I would order nothing from this nursery. read more

I receive two Lady Baltimore Hibiscus in April and still no growth showing and it is the end of May. I sent them pictures and along with my 4 Lord Baltimores Hibiscus that I have for years with a lot of growth to Robin in Customer Service. They will not credit me or send new ones. I buy alot of perennial from other places and they will guarantee. So I just order one Lady Baltimore and just received today May 30th and it has growth. I got it from Pixies Gardens so don't order from Garden Goods Direct. They will not take care of you if something is wrong with their plants. All they said is they will give me 20% off my next order. What a disappointment this company is! Their website shows amazing plants, and for the price you would think they would be even better in person. I ordered 3 plants, the one I was most excited about was backordered. I received other 2, a wandering jew/spider combo, and a black dottie. They shipped about a week after they were ordered, which I can forgive with Covid affecting businesses, however when I received my plants I was mortified! More than 1/2 the wandering jew was broken, the parts that were still in the pot were nearly dead, and days later they DID die. Wandering jews are hard to kill. The spider plant had many many yellow leaves, and every single leaf had black tips. It looks absolutely awful, and about 1/3 the size I was expecting according to the picture they have on their website. The dottie had broken and scarred leaves, it was floppy and flimsy and awful looking, and again 1/3 the size I was expecting according to the pictures they present on their website. Had I known the size these would have been, I wouldn't have ordered as their prices are astronomical in comparison to a local nursery, and the plants looked like ones most nurseries would have thrown away. I took immediate pictures, showing them the proof of how horrible they looked, and told them to not send me the one on back order. A week later they sent me an email saying they won't be able to fulfill my order, and issued me a credit. I protested it telling them I don't want them to send it, and wanted a refund including shipping as they didn't ship it. They gave me a refund, but did not include what I paid for shipping. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard nothing about any sort of refund or resolution on the other plants. When I show anyone these plants they can't believe how bad they are. Avoid them. I ordered seven hundred dollars worth of trees that they claimed were 'deer resistant'. Every other website selling the same trees claimed that they were not. Within 12 hours, I emailed them to cancel the order as their phone menu claims that this is the fastest way. It's been six days since the order was placed and since I emailed them requesting that it should be cancelled. t I've emailed and called them every day since then and they haven't picked up the phone or responded. Literally NO customer service. You can't ever reach anyone on the phone. They don't respond to e-mails either. I ordered 14 trees. The packaging was atrocious, and there was little to no support. I ordered 3-gallon trees, but our professional planter said they were more like 2-gallon trees, and he would have refused them if this was from a local nursery. 4 trees out of the 14 were damaged. One was snapped at the trunk, and is not going to survive. I e-mailed Garden Goods Direct with no response. I filed a claim with no response. Garden Goods Direct makes you purchase insurance when buying trees in case they are damaged during shipment. Umm, how about you package your trees better and don't make the customer buy insurance? I guarantee if I buy something from Amazon or Best Buy, they're not going to ship me damaged goods or hold me responsible for receiving something damaged. No, they would replace the item! Garden Goods Direct says they ship trees within 5-7 days. They don't. It took 3 WEEKS before my trees shipped! Also, they say that they may delay shipment so items don't ship on Thursday or Friday and sit in the warehouse over the weekend. THEY LIE! The trees shipped on a Thursday, sat in a warehouse, and multiple trees died over the weekend sitting in the warehouse. Horrible, horrible experience. So disappointed in not only the health of the holly and size of the Colorado Blue Spruce I received - but more disappointed in the customer service response to my issues. The blue spruce tree was ordered in a five gallon pot. After tons of research, I was expecting a 3 to 4 foot tree in a five gallon pot. (Note - this company does not ever mention that the pot size has nothing to do with the plant size.) My Colorado Blue Spruce is beautiful - healthy - and 33 inches tall. A very expensive 33" tall spruce tree in a 5 gallon pot. Next up - the Nellie Stevens Holly - a holly tree known for its dense leaves and pyramidal shape....got neither one of those attributes in the 3 gallon pot. The holly has some type of infestation with webs in the leaves. There are many half eaten leaves and some with holes in them. The tree is not shaped as stated - it is more an uneven bush. I was very concerned about the condition of this shrub that was delivered on a Friday and immediately started a dialogue with customer service. Between the answers coming in slowly and the fact that they were closing in a few hours, there was no resolution by the end of Friday. We planted the holly as we could not let it sit there in the condition it arrived in. The leaves were brittle and bending in one direction - as if windblown. They were curling. On Monday I resumed our dialogue on what to do about this plant and the last answer was The damage is superficial and easily fixable. You can simply use a pair of sharp scissors or pruning shears to gently trim away any damaged leaves, and your plant will soon sprout new leaves to take their place." Yeah...no. Thank you. I will never deal with this company again. I purchased an Edgeworthia shrub from Woodies Garden Goods Direct 2 years ago; it arrived in beautiful shape and is the crown jewel of my garden. To finish planting my shade garden, I came back to WGGD looking for Goliath ferns. For fall planting, I like to buy plants grown a zone or two north of me because they're hardier and better able to handle fast temperature changes. Even with my complete satisfaction with my past orders, I was a bit worried about ordering because of negative reviews and because it was end-of-season when lots of plants left at nurseries are tired and raggedy. I did not need to worry. The 7 ferns that I received were STUPENDOUS! I've ordered hundreds of plants online and these are the BEST plants I've ever received from any vendor! The packing was exceptional with not one speck of soil displaced. The foliage was vibrant, healthy, and thick. The ferns were well-rooted in their containers but not root bound at all. All 7 plants were equal in size and fullness -- and these were SALE plants! My only regret is that I didn't double my order! I think negative reviews must be left by folks who have unrealistic expectations. If you buy a 4" potted shrub, it's not going to look like a picture of a mature specimen. I can attest to the quality, value, and health of the plants sold by Garden Goods Direct. I was going to attach pics of the best and the worst of the ferns, but there was no worst! I paid for plant warranty. Two plants died and I asked for them to be replaced. I was told I had to pay shipping. Although I was surpr, I paid for the shipping and was sent 2 sick plants. I sent pictures showing black leaves and broken branches. I was told to send them back and was provided a return label. they insisted the plants were not sick although there was fungus on them. I worried that the fungus would infect my other plants. I just contacted Garden Goods Direct to order replacement plants and was told that they charged me a restocking fee for the sickly plants and the $105.98 I paid for the original plants was $84.78 and that I would have to pay shipping again. I was looking for some unique ornamental grasses to add to our landscape. I came across Garden Goods Direct on Facebook. Everything seemed fine until 30 days after planting one of the pink muhly grasses seemed to not be thriving. I contacted the company and was told the following: 1.) I opted out of paying for a 1 year warranty 2.) you have 5 days to contact them with delivery issues 3.) you have 15 days for the plant to die Anyone in town mail order plant business knows it takes a plant longer than 15 days to acclimate and show signs of growth or failure. Home Depot, Lowe's, Valley View ALL have a 1 year (free) guarantee, no questions asked, for replacement of plants that die. Strange that a greenhouse doesn't stand behind their products the same way. If you chose to purchase from this company, buyer beware.
