This one has been difficult to write. We've been taking our pups here for 5+ years and have nothing but positive remarks about the team, services and facility. About three weeks ago, we had to do the unimaginable. Our oldest pup had kidney failure and we had no choice but to let her go to sleep a final time. We called ahead so the team would be prepared. What I didn't expect was the professionalism, empathy and preparation we received. For starters, they have a private, separate entrance to accommodate the gravity of the situation. You enter into a room where you are given time to spend with your pup and family in these difficult final moments. Only when you're ready do you signal via a silent button for the vet and tech to come in. They explain the process and give you a little more time to say goodbye. After a final confirmation, the process begins and is over quickly. Throughout the process, the technician is stabilizing your pup and saying sweet words to them and us. We had the option to hold the pup ourselves but couldn't. When it was over, we were allowed to remain in the room by ourselves until we were ready to leave through the same private door. I thank Garden Oaks Veterinary Clinic for their support, compassion and their private accommodations. I can't think of a more respectful way to handle such a difficult situation. Deeply Disappointed by Negligence That Could Have Cost a Family Their Dog Six months ago, I found a stray dog and, wanting to do the right thing, I brought her to garden oaks vet to check for a microchip. I was told there was no chip, so I assumed she had been abandoned. Over the past several months, I've spent hundreds of dollars, not to mention time, effort, and love, caring for her, treating her as my own. Recently, I brought her to a different vet to get her spayed (due to more affordable pricing), and they scanned her -- and immediately found a microchip. I was shocked and heartbroken. The dog had a chip the whole time, and the original clinic completely missed it. This kind of negligence is unacceptable. If the first vet had done their job correctly, this dog could have been reunited with her family months ago. Instead, due to their failure, I may have unknowingly kept someone else's lost pet. I feel used, frustrated, and deeply let down. This wasn't just a clerical mistake -- this was a failure with real emotional consequences. Please take pet scanning seriously. You're entrusted with people's animals -- and people's hearts. After my initial review, I followed up directly with the clinic to request records and speak with the veterinarian. I did say the situation was "f*ing unacceptable"--because it truly was--but I never directed that language at the front-desk staff. In fact, I specifically told the receptionist that I knew it wasn't her fault and remained polite toward her. Unfortunately, the practice manager later claimed I "cursed at the front desk," which misrepresents what occurred. I remain disappointed that, instead of focusing on the real concern--failing to locate my pet's microchip and taking responsibility for a thorough scan--the clinic chose to deflect and mischaracterize my demeanor. Because the clinic has refused to accept responsibility and instead shifted blame, I cannot recommend them to anyone seeking accountable, professional veterinary care. I will be taking my pets elsewhere and urge other pet owners to do the same until the practice demonstrates true professionalism and integrity. Garden Oaks Veterinary Center has restored my faith in getting pet care for my spicy cat. My fur baby, Leo, a 5 year old cat, was experiencing mouth pain and I knew he needed some help. He weighs nearly 20lbs and strongly opinionated so it is difficult to get him to cooperate at the vet. Dr. Vega and his staff went above and beyond to get my baby care. They were so helpful and accommodating to get my Leo the vet care he needed. Everyone was so helpful, compassionate, and wanted what was best for my pet's health. Garden Oaks Vet is amazing and they really helped me care for my spicy fur baby. They have a separate entrance to the building for cats and their cat rooms have a cat tree in it to keep the cat occupied and feel more comfortable. read more

I finally prioritized his health to get him back on track with his immunization and needed to get him microchipped so I went on YELP and another search engine to find a place with good reviews. I wanted to make sure wherever I took my dog, other people respected and trusted. I found Garden Oaks and I scheduled an appointment. They were able to get his records from the previous vet. They were all so kind and attentive to Harvey. They made him feel welcome and safe and established trust right away. Dr Vega was amazing at explaining everything I inquired about and took the time to make sure all my questions were answered. Desierae was so kind and professional. On intake she addressed all my concerns to take to Dr Vega before seeing Harvey. And she was very personable. It really provided a calm environment for not only my dog but for myself as well. I highly recommend this office. The staff are warm and professional. They address what you need and don't try and sale on on what you don't need. I'm so happy Harvey has a new vet that we can trust. I was also informed that there are 4 doctors in house so I know he will always be able to be seen. And Garden Oaks also has a partnership with a few emergency services. I just wanted them to trim and grind my dog toenails but instead they gave her a rabies shot which was fine but they didn't do the nail trim so I will have to come back and pay an additional office visit fee. Took my new puppy here. Worst experience I've had and have had multiple dogs. Vet told me she could not trust a reputable breeder shot records and she needed boosters. Got the same shot my puppy got from her breeder. Didn't get the shots she needed, and got charged for a repeat of shots. I warned the vet I've had her two weeks and she wasn't fully trained. She's trained well for her age by the breeder. Never had any issues until today. The vet returned my puppy after taking her to the other room covered in her own pee. I could hear my dog crying down the hall. The vet told me I needed to work on socialization training. Note I've had the dog two weeks. I told them I was looking for a new vet, and the nurse doubled down telling me I needed to warn the next very that my puppy "bit" them. I did warn the next vet and they laughed. This vet can't handle new puppies you've been warned. Unprofessional staff and charged me for a shot I didn't needed and didn't get the one I needed. My dog was hiding from the vet and crawled u set chairs so the vet wouldn't touch her again. Most vets can handle new puppies but not this one. The DVM Stephen Chmaitelli just passed away and I could not be any more heartbroken to lose not only a great friend, but the person who I would trust mine and my dogs lives with. Stephen brought on the best of the best veterinarians, techs and office staff in the greater Houston area to run his clinic. He took so much pride in his office and work. Every single employee takes their time to make you feel like you're a part of the family. They do not rush appointments. They listen and take great notes. They brainstorm between the vets to find the optimal solution. They are absolutely without a doubt the most consistent and always get my pups back in top too shape. I owe this clinic for finding out my baby kenzos health problems, after being mislead, seeing 5 different vets, spending an astronomical amount of money and always leaving with more questions.. stephen came out of the next office after overhearing a conversation I was having with another doctor about my kenzos problems. He diagnosed with on the spot. He knew exactly what it was. A simple test confirmed it. He was so brilliant and light years advanced when it came to vet medicine. Disappointed disabled veteran with service dog. Ran 15 minutes behind and called at the 10 minute mark. They said no worries to get there as quick as I could. Got there 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment after driving 45 minutes to see them for a quick vaccination visit. When I arrived, the front desk lady told me to head back to the treatment room. As I made my way back, another lady then came out and told me to reschedule instead. Very uncomfortable and confusing to say the least. I explained that I drove very far and offered to stay there all day if need be, so they could see him at any break/cancellation they might have since my dog gets extremely car sick. They didn't even budge. Why would you tell me I'd still be okay over the phone and tell me to head to the treatment room if you're going to have someone else change it all up and tell me to reschedule? For a quick vaccination? Just be honest over the phone instead of inconveniencing me when I arrive. My dog has been a patient here since he was 12 weeks old and the quality of service has slowly deteriorated. Absolutely LOVED the staff, especially Raina. She is a great listener and super friendly. The facility is well kept with large exam rooms. Additionally, they are the ONLY vet who's mentioned BCP pharmacy, which makes meds in treats, with a variety of flavors. My kitty is impossible to pill so med treats are Perfect! The only caveat is that they don't board, which leaves moms and dads in a bit of a quandary when our babies are sick and need to board under medical supervision. When I called later to confirm they told me my appointment had been earlier that day, for which they charged a $55 no show fee. I received no call to confirm this appointment, no voicemail, no email. I don't think it's right to charge a no show fee when your receptionists can't call to confirm. When I expressed this over the phone they told me they call everyone the day before. Very disappointed. I started taking my pets to this vet when I moved to the area about 2.5 years ago. They are often very busy so it can be hard to get an appointment, which I do understand, but I think they could be more understanding and accommodating of their clients. About a year ago or so, one of my cats became ill and I quickly had him evaluated at Garden Oaks. He has an ultrasound, lab work, his blood pressure checked, and was prescribed medications over the course of a few visits. I've never had a problem with their medical advice or treatment. The first red flag though was when my cat became acutely sicker and I was unable to schedule an appointment because none were available within about a weeks' time period. I became frustrated and concerned for my cat so I took him elsewhere. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated until I had to make the decision to euthanize. I wanted to take him to garden oaks as that is where he was receiving most of his care. I had a very challenging time scheduling the euthanasia as all appointments were booked. I was eventually worked in but it was a challenging situation. Fast forward to this past week, my dog got into a minor scuffle at daycare. The daycare called around noon and recommended I have him evaluated. I immediately called garden oaks who informed me there was no appointments that day or the next. I asked if we could be worked in, as we didn't mind waiting. I was told that perhaps I should try another vet such as vergi or banfield. I immediately hung up and called heights veterinary clinic who fit me in later the same afternoon even though they were "booked." I had all my vet records sent over to the heights veterinary clinic that afternoon. I really do understand being busy, but I think for established clients, this vet could do better about accommodating clients. Very disappointed as I liked the staff and care provided. When another vet told me that my dog's symptoms were a sign of age, Garden Oaks realized immediately that there was a major concern and sent us to a specialist. They explained clearly what the concerns were and why they were referring us that way. An emergency surgery later my dog is breathing well and recovering. I took my dog in because she was having major digestive problems (bloody diarrhea). I called at 7am (as soon as they opened) to see if I can come in as a walk-in. Unfortunately, they do not take walk-ins which I compeltely understand. They took my dog in the very next open appointment which was at 9:30am. As soon as I got there, they were polite and compassionate (as they can probably see that I was stressed and worried). I didn't wait long at all, in fact, they took in me in the triage room earlier than I expected. The vet technician (Bree) and the doctor (Dr. Gallete) were extremely caring, sympathetic, compassionate, and thorough with their examiniation of my dog. I had to leave my dog there until 5:30pm until they finish blood work and give me a confirmed diagnosis. The doctor called me to give me an update. When I heard that my dog had 2 different diagnoses, I was very scared, upset, and worried. She gently reassured me that the diagnoses were treatable and that I shouldnt worry. She was very sensitive to my reaction. She knew what to say to calm me down. I deeply appreciated her empathy. All in all, the ladies at the front desk, Dr. Gallete, and Bree were warmhearted and caring. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic. read more

I have been taking my pups here for just over a year and the staff has always been great. It is a little pricier than other vets, but I feel it's worth spending a little more to take my babies to an AAHA certified clinic, knowing they're getting the best care possible. They definitely care about their patients and pet owners, to the extent that when I called and said "Hi, this is Shanae, I have a concern about my dog." The response was "What's going on with Phoebe?" I had only been in twice in the past. I have been bringing my dogs here for 4 years and was really happy with the experience. Unfortunately, in the last year there has been a significant decline in service. I still kept going because I knew times had been difficult and I wanted to be fair and understanding. Everyone is really nice, but the level of care just isn't the same. I brought one of my dogs in for an annual as well as taking a look at a mass she had. I had them look at this mass a year earlier too and was told it most likely was just an infected hair follicle, which I accepted. Over that year, the mass got bigger and when I came back for the annual, I had to push them to check if they could see if anything was inside. Nothing came out when aspirating it, so now we were looking at surgery. I was ok with whatever made my dog better. My dog's behavior had also changed during this time as well as a weight gain with no increase in appetite. I didn't think the mass was related until after it ruptured and I took her back there. The vet tech was great getting the substance out even though surgery would really be needed to remove the sac. Understandable with a possible cyst. But a day or two after this, I was amazed because my dog's energy improved. She had been lethargic for that year and we even ran a thyroid test and it came back normal. After it ruptured and they removed most of the substance, her behavior went back to what it was prior to the mass. She also started to lose weight, which was good. Not sure how or if it could be related, but that is the only thing that happened before her energy shifted. I wish they would have looked into it more when I first brought her in and asked. I also brought up the change and weight gain multiple times sharing that I wasn't sure why. She won't exercise, but doesn't overeat. At no point was anything else considered except trying to find a way to make her exercise, changing her food and me asking to check her thyroid. I feel awful that had we addressed this earlier, she may have felt better much sooner. This alone, I did not question because maybe there was no way they could link the issues (I didn't), but then other things started happening. They forgot to give one of her shots during the annual and I had to go back to get the shot before I could send my dog to daycare because the daycare actually caught the expiration. The day I brought her in because the mass ruptured, I got a call from them saying that if I needed anything procedurally done, they couldn't help me ( maybe due to time constraints, since my appt was after 4pm. Never was told the reason though). Not sure why they booked me a few days earlier knowing why I was coming in if they couldn't really do much past look at it, but ok. Really just thought we needed meds that we had gotten previously for a prior rupture. The way it was handled during that call was very off putting though. They also did squeeze substance out of it without me asking, which I thought they wouldn't be able to do, so I was grateful. But the tone of the call was just handled poorly. Not what I was used to with them. In the past, their front staff displayed some of the best service I had seen in any industry. Haven't seen it in the same way lately. They also have a 10 minute rule where if you are 10 minutes late, they won't see you. Even if you call explaining extenuating circumstances. I totally understand the purpose, but I had an emergency and called twice telling them I was on the way and rushing. Pulled into the parking lot at 2:41pm when my appointment was at 2:30pm. The Dr refused to see me. I asked again because I was literally right there. They still refused. 1 minute past the 10 minute rule. On my last visit a week earlier, I had personally waited 15-20 minutes in the lobby and then 10 minutes in the examining room for them because they had an emergency, which I totally understood. Things happen. But to be so arbitrary with a rule after I left work and drove 20 minutes to get there after having a work emergency of my own...just wasn't the clinic I knew. I had only been late (nothing egregious) once before due to a car accident in front of me that created heavy traffic and they turned me away then too. I also have been there a lot recently with one dog's mass and having another dog too. Not late any other time. Their attention to detail and putting the client first overall just hasn't been the same this past year. After prior smaller issues on top of the ones I listed, I started to bundle all of this together and I decided to move forward with a different Vet. I hated to do it, but they hadn't left me anything worth staying for. I went from being very impressed when I started going there 4 years ago to now just plain disappointed. My review may be a little late but it's only on Yelp. I left other reviews on Instagram and Facebook. My experience here was a very personal one. It went beyond just a normal vet for check ups and shots. I started coming to Garden Oaks after learning my fur child had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Kris knows my family so I already knew we would be in great hands. Trigger was my therapy dog as I was diagnosed years earlier with anxiety and depression. He calmed me and laid with me when I just needed someone or anything. They did everything they could for him in the 3 months that he was a patient there. They removed a massive tumor from his neck that was such a difficult surgery. Trigger passed a few months after from the cancer spreading and honestly even though he passed I'm so thankful and grateful for everyone at Garden Oaks. The day we brought Trigger in to be put to sleep was the hardest day of my life and they let my whole family in the room to say their goodbyes. Even the staff was sad and gave me hugs and remembered me when I came back for an event for the first time a year later. Dr. C is seriously a godsend. I sent him and the staff a beautiful arrangement of green roses and he called me personally to thank me and tell me how sorry he was and how great Trigger was.
