The quality of service and care you get, is worth the extra 10 bucks you may save going elsewhere. My dog isn't the best with going to vets as she is just anxious. But they made her feel very comfortable and welcomed. They did the exam and vaccinations with her in the room with me which is something I value in a vet, full transparency. They aren't after your money like some vets, they will always do what's truly best for ur pet. Another amazing thing about them is they have a number they can text you from to give u updates on any procedure you may get done from them. Both my pups have been going to HVC since they moved to the NW location. We usually only come here for more serious illnesses as it is pricier for yearly check up and preventives. They have been able to fit me in last minute for multiple occasions; when my pup had a groomer accident and also recently when one of my pup got really ill. My pup was taken in right after thanksgiving due to severe pain where he was barely moving. Dr Yu and staff ran multiple tests, xrays and scans and found an enormous fat tumor in his abdomen. Not only was Dr. Yu taking care of my fur baby she's also comforting me as I felt like a bad mom for noticing certain signs. Dr Yu recommended an ultrasound specialist to look at his other organs to ensure nothing else was wrong and I'm glad we did as we found a tumor on is spleen. A next day surgery was scheduled immediately for him after the tumor discovery. During that time they kept in regular contact with me on updates on my pup with text and calls. The surgery was very successful and my pup healed well post surgery. We sent in the tumor for lab test to find out whether it was cancerous or not and had to wait about 10 days to get results back. We had to run 2 rounds of labs since the first one was inconclusive. My dog was later diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (HSA) which is an extremely aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis. Dr Yu was extremely compassionate and would take her time to provide me with options on next steps and provide her profession opinion while I had to make difficult decisions during a stressful time. We decided not to do chemo and asked Dr. Yu for recs on alternative medical and where she provide other vets that practices TCM for us to follow up with. I'm forever grateful that my pup was in her care during this whole process. read more

I found this clinic while searching for nearby places that treated birds. I had a 4 year old parakeet, Ikaros, who was experiencing some pretty severe health issues. They were so wonderful to both me and my parakeet - they put us in a room immediately so the lobby noises wouldn't stress him out. Offered me freshly brewed coffee, even offered a blanket because the room was a little on the chilly side. Both the technician, Rachel, and Dr. Yu were very gentle and focused on providing a minimal stress experience for Ikaros. Unfortunately, it turned into a Quality of Life conversation but I was aware of that possibility due to his condition. They handled him with care and explained the entire process to me, step by step before they proceeded. A very calming, Fear Free atmosphere with calming music playing in the room, not feeling rushed at any point. I'm glad to know this clinic is nearby and a gentle understanding option for all of my pets, big or small. read more

After almost 20 years of doctor-patient relationship since the original owner, the current owner(s) have thrown the original, legendary vision and concept out the window. As of yesterday, I have asked Dr. Rodriguez to pdf all my dog's medical records and I am not going back to this clinic anymore, and here is the summary of the story: My 6-month old miniature Schnauzer is a meticulously maintained puppy with custom hair cut where the legs have fluffy, full 2 inches hair all around. Instead of shaving enough hair on one leg for IV Catheter for my puppy's neuter surgery, they SHAVED 2 inches ALL AROUND the leg, completely ruined the look of an animal. On 10/2/2023, Cassie explained to me they could have been more careful to shave just enough area for IV catheter to avoid this issue. On 10/3/2023, Nathan claimed the shaving style is STANDARD and there is nothing it could be done differently. Nathan's claim is conflicting Cassie's statement, and that's the first red flag. (And Nathan, if you are reading this, please calm yourself down, LISTEN more and talk less is a much better way to resolve problem, and avoid the sarcastic tone with your customers). Later on 10/3/2023, Dr. Rodriguez called to back up Nathan's claim, however she also explained they could have done it differently to avoid this issue and would avoid such harsh harmful ugly shaving in the future, She further told me her story about a famous mascot's IV catheter was done in a hidden spot, with minimum shaving and no visible damage of the look of the dog, so this simply means they can pick and choose what to do and who the dog is. This is again and yet another conflicting fact that the shaving could have been minimum to avoid damaging a dog's look, but they chose to be careless and they simply do not care, unless you and your dog is a celebrity. Apologies is free and everybody can apologize, but I need action and ownership, and I asked for the clinic to own up to their mistake and to refund me the surgery cost, a simply gesture to assure me that they care. However I was told no refund, and there is nothing they can do. I was told I can leave(Not in a rude way) and to find another vet that can make me happy. To my believe, living human being can always take the right action to own up their mistake and make things better, and only DEAD people can do nothing because they are dead. The way they cover each other and conflicting themselves, unwilling to own up their mistake with excuses is unacceptable. I have asked for the full medical records of my puppy, and I choose not to be a part of such association. read more

We dropped off our sweet Daisy for her dental cleaning/surgery at 7am. The morning drop off was EXTREMELY chaotic and it was obvious that a.) HVC was understaffed b.) completely overbooked or c.) both. When I picked her up, I intuitively knew something was wrong with her but was told she was just extremely groggy from the anesthesia. She had a blank look in her eyes and also soiled herself in the lobby. The day after, Daisy began acting a bit strange, running into corners and chairs around the house and pacing in circles, something she had absolutely never done. When we received a call from HVC checking on Daisy, we explained this and they suggested her after care meds might be too strong and they we should cut back a bit. We did. Two days later in the early afternoon, Daisy began frantically running around in circles. We rushed her to the emergency room near by. They kept her for observation overnight and suggested that we transfer her to GCVS. After several days and countless tests, the vets at GCVS concluded that the original snowball that caused this entire nightmare was either the anesthesia given at the time of her dental surgery or a lack of proper hydration during or post-op hospital care that was too stressful on little body. Either caused by an awful oversight due to the overbooking or being understaffed or just plain neglect or lack of experience. Our baby girl passed, a few weeks after her visit to HVC, peacefully and surrounded by those that love her unconditionally. Also worth noting that even though HVC was receiving Daisy's reports from the various hospital visits, we were never contacted by HVC to check on her well-being which was something that was previously done following an emergency hospital visit the year prior due to a bee sting. Never offered to cover some of the expenses, which if you've ever taken your baby to GCVS, you know can be quite a bit. Never even sent a card, or email even, offering their condolences. They only reached out after I sent them an email with these same facts listed above. At which point I found out that they had advised to give her gabapentin the night before her procedure, the morning of her procedure, then THEY also gave her another dose when she was admitted, followed by another dose after her procedure. Although I am not a vet, this seems like an over dose for such a small dog (9lbs, normally 11). Also, after my experience, I learned that SEVERAL other dogs had issues during dental procedures. Granted it was not the same issue we had but it is very concerning that this many issues happen frequently. I'd advise to take your fur babies elsewhere. This place has gone downhill from what it used to be. Advocate for your sweet babies, run fast and far away from here. I know that my baby had many healthy years left in her and can only blame myself for not being a better advocate for her that could have avoided this dark ending in the first place. Everyone that met her absolutely adored her and would marvel at her age since she did not act or seem to be a senior girl. She lived her life full of energy and sass, like the young puppy at heart she was. She is extremely missed and are hearts will never stop aching for her. read more

I have brought my cat into this vet on many occasions over the years and have been been sent home playing the question game still as to what is wrong with him so many times! They could never fully pin point the issue with him appointment after appointment. Later down the road he almost passed away and I spent over 8k at the Sugarland vet specialist (who I cannot rave more about). I do feel like Dr.Albright was super sweet, knowledgeable and helpful and always a joy to see but I was more frustrated that appoint after appointment and not cheap appointments nothing was ever resolved and it ended with me almost losing my cat. I am not one to leave reviews but after now going to their new location since the old location closed to pick up revolution flea medication for my cat the girl behind the counter would 1. Only let me purchase one dose (since my cat has not been seen by their new doctor) and 2. not only that they are literally charging you $26 per single monthly dose of revolution. You can get a whole 3 month supply CHEAPER than that. They used to charge $20 a dosage and EVEN then that was a rip off. Not only was the girl behind the counter unfriendly but her bedside manner gave me enough to know I will NEVER go back to this place. If you have a cat I fully recommend sending them to a cat specialist over this place. I will say it's unfair of me to comment on the actually vets since they are "new" but the fact that they are ripping people off on medication says enough. I even reached out to other friends and they confirmed that they are completely overcharging. Oh and let me not forget to mention she only let me get one dose of flea medication because my cat hasn't been seen by the other "new" doctors since the other location closed. Yet I've spent $$$$ so much money in general at their other location and it's my fault apparently that they closed the shepherd location. So I would have to had brought my cat to have a evaluation to receive more flea medication. Ha! I was told my cat is not up to date on vaccines and I can assure you I WONT BE GETTING THEM THERE! read more

I just called them about my 2 kittens to bring them in to the clinic to be weighed so I can purchase their flea meds. I called and phone rang 20 times and went into voice-mail not once but twice. Then 3rd time I called she answered I proceeded to tell her why I was calling. She cut me off to ask if this is a medical emergency or could I hold. I waited 30 minutes for her to come back on the line. She never did so I hung up. Unfortunately its now noon and they are closed. I could have been there in 10 minutes had she not been rude. I used to take my dogs to Dr Williams and Dr Hendricks. This place is a money making racket with no concern for the animals. They will have to wait to get their flea meds again. I just had the worst interaction with the manager Lindsey. I booked an appointment via text and less than one minute later I received another text telling me the appointment was taken by someone else. My dog has a severe ear infection and instead of owning up to the mistake and making sure my dog was seen, Lindsey was rude and told me I as to be a "walk in" after they gave my appointment away. I have been a loyal customer for years and I all no longer be bringing my animals to this clinic. Stay far away!!! They are clearly disorganized and don't care about their customers. When I asked to talk with the owner Lindsey was dismissive and didn't give me the information to contact the owners. On the day after Thanksgiving 2 of the family dogs get into a row. Yellow lab mix vs. 5lb chihuahua. After quite a battle we are in need of emergency care. We call the Heights vet clinic and are told that they have a Dr on staff. We had called a couple of clinics first to find out there was no Dr. Available. Upon arrival our dog is now in their care. The staff had a sense of urgency and handled the situation very professionally. We left her for surgery and we were able to pick her up that evening. Dr Pina did a fine job of putting her back together. Liza helped every step of the way making our total experience a great one. We cannot thank the entire staff enough for the wonderful care. I needed a simple form from United filled out and emailed to me. This could have easily been done over the phone using information from the date of our last exam (45 days ago). Instead of sending the form over, they insisted I come in for another inspection. I kept on telling them, I just needed a form that certifies she's had her rabies and distemper vaccinations and the date of the last exam would be fine. They kept insisting I come in for a new exam so I drove one hour out of my way to accommodate. While there, they gave me a bunch of forms I didn't need and failed to send the United form that I repeatedly asked for by email. The trip was unnecessary and a complete waste of time. To make things worse, they charged me $100 for the inconvenience. I asked for a refund, but it seems they rather keep the ill-gotten $100 than appreciate the hundreds of dollars I've been spending there since November. I hate to paint the entire place with a broad brush. As a consolation there are some good folks there. And while some are incompetent, all are animal lovers. Unfortunately this experience will not have me coming back. read more

Brought in cat for treatment of a UTI, this is the third time the cat has had the issue over several years so we knew what the problem was. The doctor insisted on having a urine sample taken to confirm it was a UTI for an additional $30-40 fee. The cat jumped each time they tried to remove the urine sample so the test could not be performed. Instead they felt they kidneys which was $16 in addition to the $43 exam fee. Left with a $140 bill which would of been $180 if the urine test could be performed. I should of been charged for an office visit and a shot of antibiotics which would be under $100. Please keep in mind that this clinic is now CORPORATELY owned, several years ago the owner retired and sold the business. I had another questionable experience after having surgery on my dog to remove a tumor. For each follow up visit to check on healing they charged me an office visit fee. This was in addition to the expensive procedure. This vet is not bad, however, they are certainly first interested in making money, just like any corporation. Be sure to ask questions about how much everything costs before they do it. They are no longer the privately owned, good value clinic of the past. They misdiagnosed my baby boy, took him in because he wasn't feeling well very early morning Saturday. They said they ran blood work and told me he was good, on the contrary he was diagnosed with a severe infection at the vet hospital. After noticing that he wasn't getting any better after just being home for an hour, I called back at 10:30 am to ask if there was anything else they could do or give him and they said well it's almost closing time. You will just have to wait till Monday. Perhaps if they had caught his infection in the bloodwork they said they ran my baby boy would still be with us. I've been here before with the prior doctors they took amazing care of us when I had a German Shepherd, but now it's so disgusting to see how little they care about actually treating compared to how much they care about going home. Only good thing I will have to say is the vet technician was so sweet to us. Other than that never again. read more

I had a 5-Star experience with Heights Vet today...although it was unexpected! My Italian Greyhound was playing in the house and brushed some moving equipment slicing open her side near her front left-leg. I called my vet, Garden Oaks Vet, but they didn't have availability. Since it was an emergency, I called Heights Vet - they were ON IT! Very sharp and efficient staff who are focused on the wellbeing of the pet, professional, and friendly. They quickly booked me - I called while in the parking lot like a crazy mom! I dropped my girl off and got a call from the vet a few hours later detailing the procedure where my girl had to go under anesthesia and get two staples. The doc was professional and kind.. all together a great veterinarian. I am thankful to all of the staff who helped in this unexpected emergency. Highly recommend! read more

I spent $850 on Monday for a spay and extra flea medication for my other cats. I tried to purchase ear mite medication one week later and they told me I had to bring the cat back in. Ok. This vet is ridiculously expensive. Suggested that my dog had severe heartworm, and I needed to pay $1400 for treatment. I took her to another vet who told me her case was moderate and charged a total of $345 including additional prescriptions for antibiotics and steroids. In response to the employee's comment below, my dog is Chilli. I'm not interested in discussing further at this point, but to give more information, the list of prospective charges included things like a hospital stay (which I've since read that most vets no longer suggest) and having xrays or ultrasounds (I can't remember which at the moment). I understand that these measures would ensure that absolutely everything possible was learned about my dog's heart worms, but the charges were not presented as optional in any way. Having never dealt with heart worms before, I was pretty much accepting that I wouldn't be able to treat my dog because I couldn't afford that. I would suggest presenting pricing on such treatments in a way that conveys that some parts of the treatment are absolutely necessary, some are simply suggested for better care, and some are above and beyond care. read more

My cat could have died due to their negligence! I brought my cat in one morning with clear symptoms that something was wrong with his digestive or urinary system. Since my cat was acting out, the doctor did not even look at him. I offered to bring him back later under sedative but they instead proceeded with giving him a shot to stop the vomiting and sent us home. I ended up having to take my cat to the emergency room at night because he was deteriorating. He was found to have a urinary block, which could have been found and treated hours earlier if they had taken the time. I will never take my cat back to this place. read more

Just don't try to have emergency treatment close to closing, they are ready to go home. Called and explained that our dog seemed to be having an allergic reaction, perhaps bitten by something. She was scratching furiously, pink hives developing in her abdomen, and swelling in the torso. We were ten minutes away and they were open another half hour. Nope, can't see you. Faced with possible life or death complications they valued quitting time more than the dog. One of four "doctors" who were to close to gong home to care. Pathetic. read more

We continue to use Heights Vet for all our kids needs. They have had a lot of staff changes but they now take appointments which is great. Dr. Pina is still our normal doctor we just have to ask for her because she is very popular. My dogs loves going in for visits and they have Fear Free members on staff so when we take our scaredy cat in they make special accommodations for her because they have more training with stressed pets. All the vets here are great and the staff really cares. read more

I am simply blown away by the wonderful vets, vet assistants and staff. Everyone here is upbeat and filled with energy to help your pets! I came in with some baby rescue kittens, one with a wound above his anus. The staff were quick to perform a thorough examination. The assistants monitored heartbeat, took temperatures, looked at the wounds, and provided loving care & concern. The vets were just awesome! They explained EVERYTHING that was happening to these little balls of fluff! They let me witness everything, were open about what was happening, explained it all ... and then asked ME if I had any further questions. No question was off limits. From showing me how to express the bladder, explaining to me how the wound would heal, and just sharing in the entire process. I thought, "Wow, this is going to cost a mint! I have 4 kittens here." Well, after my 3rd visit (yes, 3rd), I have yet to hit the $200 mark! I will always comes here!!!! I learned how to help the kittens, understood odds of survival (and we beat them!), and was treated with respect, understanding, and care. No wonder this vet clinic is so highly rated!!!! We have been taking our dog to this clinic for almost two years because it is in the neighborhood..... but other than that there have been no other positive experiences I have had at this clinic. The vet and technicians I have had interactions with are pretty condescending, generally in a sour mood and basically give you a massive overload of irrelevant information aka try to scare you to pay more money for more tests and services that are unnecessary. As far as following up for any tests you did have done....don't count on it. Which is so weird that they were super adamant about getting you to have the test performed and don't demonstrate the same amount of urgency regarding any follow-up or even having the results available. The walk-ins only policy is about as miserable you would imagine it to be if you were going to the doctor at a walk-in clinic: long wait times (because it seems like there are not enough doctors on staff to deal with the demand) and a smelly wait room. read more

This place is great. They get you in and out as fast as they can without a need for an appointment. The vets and vet techs are also very nice. I went to this place for the first time after my dog got a botched neuter some place else. The vet was extremely proactive about getting my dog well. The vet techs also helped keep my dog calm. My large dog (Rottweiler) was in a lot of pain and very unhappy about having his painful/inflamed area examined. The vet techs were understanding and helped to keep him calm. Please note, this is a no frills veterinary office. They just want to keep your pet healthy. They are conscious of their costs and their costs to the owner. read more

Nothing went wrong here as far as my pet's health, that's the reason they're getting 2 stars and not 1. I worked for a vet hospital in the past, so there are a number of things I consider when going somewhere for my pets. The staff is rude, sloppy, and unprofessional, especially the front desk staff. The facilities are dirty and dingy. The doctors are fine, that's the best compliment I can give them. They do an adequate job. Good luck if your pet ever needs something more involved than the routine, I don't have any confidence this place is capable. Also, it is important to note, his place is NOT cheap or inexpensive, and you DEFINITELY want to take a look at your itemized bill. I took my puppy here based on a friend's recommendation, and it's where he got all his basic shots, so when it came time for his neuter I felt somewhat obligated to go here for the procedure. Firstly, they insisted my dog get the canine influenza shot, despite me explicitly stating I was uninterested, secondly they charged me for an ecollar that was never given to me, when I called to complain, they said they'd take it off my next bill--- that'd be nice, except I never want to go back! And I am still owed the $20-something from the unnecessary charge. Recently, I called regarding my dog's annual boosters because I received a notification he was due for his rabies vaccine, and I knew his distemper and bordadella would need updated as well. After being rudely corrected that they don't take appointments, only walk-ins (sorry Heights Staff, I'm used to how the REST of the world works), I asked what else needed updated, although I was 95% certain, I wanted to double check. Well, nothing, as they seemed to have lost/misplaced/incorrectly inputed my dogs other vaccination records, and were unable/unwilling to find them and tell me. I hung up, called The Montrose Veterinary Clinic, made an APPOINTMENT, and I'm never looking back. I recommend anyone who cares about their furry babies, look elsewhere, specifically The Montrose Veterinary Clinic. read more

I have to share how extremely Impressed I was with the team at Heights Vet clinic this morning. Daisy and I were there for a tooth extraction F/U and while waiting an emergency came thru the door. My heart broke for the lady and her sick dog but the team took immediate action trying to save this dog. They also provided updates to us on when we would be seen but delayed due to the emergency which would completely understood. I can't say enough positive things about this team today! Have been taking my pets here for several years. Helped when my oldest cat was diganosed with cancer and needed hospice care and eventually helped with her euthanasia. We take all our cats and our dog here for everything. Never have an issue getting in same day and prices are still reasonable considering the growth the Heights is experiencing. If something is way out of their scope they won't try to milk it.. we've been referred to specialist vets when needed. Definitely a valued Heights establishment in my book. read more

I'm surprised that a veterinary clinic could elicit such a polarizing response from reviewers. My experience was entirely positive. As others noted, the waiting room isn't all that updated. But you know what, it's a waiting room for pets. They do not care. They just want to get out as soon as they can, no matter how nicely appointed the office may be. And the place didn't smell or look dirty at all to me. I'm assuming they are frugal about decorating so they don't have to pass that unnecessary cost on to me. The quote I got for a dental cleaning was about half that of other places I called, and it included the same elements. Plus, they sometimes have "dental month" with an extra 10% discount. The vaccines and treatment my dog got here were lower priced than Heights Hospital for Animals and Richmond Animal Clinic, and the staff was friendlier too. I liked not needing an appointment for checkups. I just showed up around 7:30 am, and as soon as vets were ready for patients at 8am, my dog went right in. His exam and treatment were complete, and I was checked out ready to go, about 20 minutes later. I suspect if I'd showed up at 10am or 4pm my experience might have been different. I will just always try to get their early in the morning mid-week and beat the crowds. Dr. Hendrix took time to carefully look over my dog (a new patient), review his history, and answer a few questions I had about recent changes I had noticed in the dog's demeanor. He answered questions thoroughly and in plain language, and referenced specific texts to support his explanation. I appreciated that he was calm and really didn't try to upsell me on any extra treatments. Because of convenience and value, I am considering making this my regular vet. read more

First: Their phone message states that they are the oldest Veterinarian in The Heights... this is false. A large corporation bought it from the original owner. It is not the same vet, people and it is a different business model. It's not about your pet... it's all about the upsell. Beware of anesthesia upsell for everything including clipping nails.
