A veterinary practice should be about pet care and comfort but this is not their primary concern. My dog tag needs to have quail. He has a skin allergy and he has a great deal of itching. It was not a month ago that I showed out $400 for an appointment so that he can get a refill When I asked for the prescription so that I could order his prescription online and save 40% they wouldn't even acknowledge they got the request from the website and they won't confirm anything so I had to go get the prescription and when I tried to pick up a refillit's now twice as much as I paid last month, so what vindictive pricing I will never take my pet back to Heights hospital for animals again I will come in to get his records and I will find a new vet read more

I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else than to Dr. Kelly Wen. She had the expertise and diligence to investigate and diagnose difficult medical issues with both my pets. I sought a second medical opinion from Heights Hospital for Animals after being given incorrect diagnoses for both my pets. Dr. Wen was able to diagnose cancers in both my pets and gave them a better, longer life. Any additonal wonderful days I had with my pets I owe to Dr. Wen. Whenever my dogs had problems arise sporadically, she saw them very promptly. She cared for my pets as if they were her own. The ancillary staff were respectful and kind. I would recommend anyone to bring their loved ones to this clinic. read more

Our family is so incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Wen. In the Merriam-Webster, under the word perfect, you'll find her name. Everything about Dr. Wen is perfection. Her bedside manners -- perfect. The way she cares for our Daisy Mae -- perfect. She listened to our concerns, really strived to keep us in the loop, and did everything she could to make sure Daisy felt better. I am a big animal lover. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. My last vet was on the west side of Houston. Sad to be torn away by miles I was searching for a vet in the heights area. I drove by the Heights Hospital for Animals a dozen times. Unfortunately no one has written any reviews about the clinic. I decided to try it out anyway. The Heights Animal Hospital only has one doctor, Dr. Duncan. So when you make an appointment, their is no waiting in the lobby (love). The staff was super friendly and Dr. Duncan was superb. He is a graduate from Texas A&M and very knowledgeable of animals. I would highly recommend Dr. Duncan and his staff to take care of your animal loved ones. read more

First time visitor here with two nervous nelly dogs and a 15 lb baby in tow, I had my hands full! I accidentally parked on the east side of the building, which is not for the hospital, so note to self, go west next time! My appointment was for 3:30, (I got there about 5 min before). The main lobby is very nice with really cute artwork and the lighting was mostly natural so it defiantly didn't have a "hospital" feel. The exam rooms we simple and neat. I saw the doc by 3:45, that includes initial paperwork (a signature) and weights for both oober skiddish dogs. Long story short I met with Dr. Hansen and Stephanie (?) the tech (?). They were absolutely lovely, took their time explaining things were really sweet to the pups and got us in and out in under 30 minutes. And... Stephanie helped me walk my dogs all the way to the other side of the building where I was parked so that I could more easily carry my baby in his car seat. What a relief! My only gripe would be that they charge ~$170 for 6 months of trifexis. I bought it, I got home and checked on pet meds and it was going for close to $100, yikes! Lesson learned. I blame that on myself so no star deduction for these guys. read more

My dog had awful diarrhea and vomiting. Her original Veterinarian could not see her for another week. This is very distressing to a dog mom when her pup is sick. Dr. Wen fit in my sweet pup for a next day appointment and did an excellent job taking care of her. To make a very long story short, my cat has had reoccurring urinary problems that were previously misdiagnosed as UTIs at other vets. After his most recent episode, I saw two different vets and after taking X-Rays, both said my cat had kidney stones and would need immediate surgery at a specialist hospital that would cost between $1,500-2,000. Upon recommendation from a friend, I made an appointment with Dr. Martinez at Heights Hospital for Animals. He was able to see me within two days and told me he could perform the surgery himself if necessary, but said my cat was OK for the time being and wanted to try a more aggressive urinary care prescription diet first to see if the stones would dissolve on their own. 3 weeks later the new prescription diet worked and X-Rays show he is stone free! Dr. Martinez saved my cat from having to go through a surgery and saved me $1,500-$2,000. From now on I will not be going to a different vet! I could not recommend them enough. read more

We happily took our two cats to the Heights Hospital for Animals for the past few years because Dr. Duncan and his staff were very personable, conservative with treatment and great about communicating treatment options. Unfortunately, Dr. Martinez, the new vet, is on the other end of the spectrum. We brought our cat in and explained his symptoms to the vet and his staff. Dr. Martinez suggested that a simple test would be run to look for the cause of the issues. A few hours later, we were called to pick the cat up, and we were greeted with a bill twice as large as any bill we ever received previously. The explanation: The initial test didn't show any issues, so the vet (without asking or explaining the costs) executed a second test. Additionally, an unrelated X-ray was taken (again without offering any explanation or option for us to decline that service). We were disappointed with this experience. My wife was blindsided by the bill, and she didn't think to consult with the vet before providing payment, but we called Dr. Martinez after we had an opportunity to review the bill (the same day). He wasn't available, but he returned our phone call later in the afternoon. When we told the vet how unhappy we were with the (expensive) additional tests and lack of communication, he said something to the effect of, "I can see why you feel that way, and *maybe* I should have told you about the other tests before performing them." We asked why a second test needed to be performed if the first test was negative, and Dr. Martinez responded that in rare cases, the second test would show different results. We asked why an X-ray was performed, and he said "We always perform X-rays on older cats." Did anyone communicate what they "always" did to us? Absolutely not. Again, he said, "We *maybe* should have let you know about that procedure." At no point in the conversation was Dr. Martinez ever apologetic about the service we received. The closest he got was suggesting that *if* we wanted to stay with him, he *may* be able to provide a credit on our next visit to his office. Fortunately, he and his team didn't unilaterally decide to perform an MRI or something ... That would have been hundreds of more dollars for them to charge that they *maybe* should've asked us about. If you're looking for a vet who will clearly communicate procedures, treatment options, and costs, there are plenty of vets in the area that will work for you. Under Dr. Martinez, Heights Hospital for Animals is not one of those vets. read more

Our visit- The staff is extremely rude from the second they answer the phone. They are sighing and sounding like they would rather be anywhere else in the world the whole conversation. The actual vet is a little creepy with awkward jokes and strange looks. When they gave my dogs their vaccinations, they had 2 people holding my 6 lb dog and blood was squirting everywhere. I have never seen that happen before. They quoted us $750 to have my dog fixed and my husband just about jumped out of his skin and called to get another quote from another vet that charges $300.00. That is a HUGE difference! I didn't even know people could mark up a surgery that much. Now- I am trying to get them to just confirm that my dogs need heart worm and flea protection to 1800 petmeds because unfortunately this is who did their last exam. I am not asking them to agree with me buying from there. Just the same prescription that they would write: asking if they could say it over the phone. I very nicely explained this to the receptionist. Katy at the front desk refused to do this. She was very rude about the whole thing and I let her know I would be writing this review. She did not seem to care. That speaks for the business as a whole. If someone said "I am going to write a bad review because of this service", I would hope my employees would know to step it up and try to do something to change that. Nope! Nothing! Normally, If a customer is upset, a place of business tries to offer alternate solutions to be helpful. My vet from last year did that very thing. They have not seen my dogs in a year, but wanted to help in any way possible because they could tell I had been dealing with Idiots that know nothing about customer service. I will avoid all contact with this AWFUL place. I pray that no one else as to go through this. I have recently moved here and I am totally regretting my decision of using them. Just don't try to have emergency treatment close to closing, they are ready to go home. Called and explained that our dog seemed to be having an allergic reaction, perhaps bitten by something. She was scratching furiously, pink hives developing in her abdomen, and swelling in the torso. We were ten minutes away and they were open another half hour. Nope, can't see you. If you care about your pet, DO NOT BRING HIM OR HER HERE for vet care. I took my puppy in for a lump on his neck. I was told by the clinic it was a "puncture wound" -though there was no evidence of it being such (no blood, no visible entry point, etc. it was clearly a subcutaneous lump.). They gave me antibiotic cream to rub on it. They said they would give me a followup call in a week to check on him. They never called. Intuitively, I had a feeling they were being negligent and brought him to another vet. This one actually listened and encouraged a biopsy. My puppy-7 months old- has an aggressive form of cancer. The fact the previous vet gave me antibiotic cream to run into a tumor is beyond idiotic- it's negligent. That month in between seeing the vet at Heights Hospital for Animals and the second vet was precious time lost. While my experience is anecdotal, I cannot stress enough that you shouldn't risk bringing your pets to this place. read more

We have been taking our fur kiddos here since the fall of 2008 when Hurricane Ike hit and they were one of a few places in the Heights that had electricity. We boarded them the second week after the hurricane so they could be in the a/c when the humidity was too much too bear because we still were without electricity. They took great care of them so after that, we started taking our fur kids there and we have been very happy with their care for 9 years...almost 10! Dr. Martinez and Dr. Alexander are very kind and down-to-earth and take their time answering questions. I have always found the front desk and their vet techs to be very polite and helpful as well. I am definitely an overprotective dog mom and every question or concern I've had has been responded to with care and compassion. Our 8 year old golden mix just had his teeth cleaned this morning and I actually just received a call from Dr. Martinez saying he did great and he was very thorough telling me about the build-up on the teeth and future care with brushing, etc. I definitely recommend taking your fur kiddos to Heights Hospital for Animals if you live in the Heights or surrounding area. They also have really nice boarding facilities which is a huge bonus! read more

We have taken our animals to this Hospital since we moved to the Heights and have been very happy with our experience. We use the vet services as well as boarding and we couldn't ask for better. For us, our dogs are larger so the bigger area for our large dog is so much more comfortable for her. They come back rested and relaxed from a visit, unlike some of the other boarding experiences they have had. But more than anything else, I would recommend this vet for the staff. The veterinarian, nurses, vet techs, and caretakers are all caring, thoughtful, professional, and consistent. They all genuinely connect to my dogs and know them well. I don't have to worry about whether we are at the right place. I know our dogs have the best care possible. On top of that, the prices are very fair. I am really happy with this hospital. read more

Pumpkin escaped on the way in and was lost for 2 days. They put out food, called for him, put out traps and then when I found him they took care of him as if he still had an appointment. He was even given his own 3 story condo for the morning to calm down. read more

Very caring and compassionate staff that I encountered, especially vet tech, Dalton. My 16 year old cat was very sick and needed to be put down. They allow in person euthanasia with your pet inside the facility at a fair cost. I was grateful for the level of compassion extended, especially during this time when there is so much fear based around COVID. I highly recommend this clinic, both Dr. Martinez and Dr. Wen, and especially Dalton, the best vet tech I have ever encountered. What a disappointment? I purchased the PetAssure discount plan and specifically came to this office since they were listed on the PetAssure site. At my former vet, I paid about $200 for my dog's yearly shots and exam without an insurance discount. I figured with the added discount from PetAssure, that I'd certainly pay less at Heights Hospital for Animals. Boy was I wrong! I went a few weeks ago and paid $375 for the normal shots and exam- without a discount this would have been almost $450. I was told I needed to make a follow-up appointment for the second round of one of the shots I already paid for. I was told this was all included with what I paid. I just received a call that I needed to pay an additional $41 for the second round of the shot. I'm disappointed in the lack of transparency, professionalism and affordability of this place. I expressed this concern and at no point did anyone recognize my frustration or make an attempt to explain some of the items or difference in care between this office and my former office. Just goes to show it's all about the money and not about caring for the owners or pets. read more

Dr. Martinez barely touched my Pug; he and his staff were far more interested in up-selling me. Buy this. Buy that! This clinic is not unique as this seems to be the trend in pet healthcare. I haven't had any bad experiences at this vet since coming here in 2015. I see Dr. Martinez and he is usually very thorough and patient explaining things about my dog. The front desk staff and techs are friendly. Stephanie is a tech and she's very knowledgeable and is always genuinely excited to see my dog! Also I take my cats to the Cat Vet Clinic in the Heights so I have another vet to compare to and they never call to check on my pet to see how he or she is doing. I have had very sick cats and am a good client and have never received a just checking on them call from anyone at the cat vet on White Oak. HHFA even calls to check up on my dog with allergies to see if she's better and after her dental work they called twice to check on her. That in and of itself is reason to continue using them. No vet office ever calls so to see them doing this is exceptional. It's very nice and appreciated. I am very picky about who I take my animals to see and so far I've been happy with coming here. read more

I unfortunately had to use this vet because the breeder I bought my puppy from only gave me a two day health guarantee. All of the other vets were booked so I had to go here! WOW am I glad I read the reviews before going! Otherwise, I would have been shocked! The vet would not answer my questions. I started to ask him about vaccinations and he literally said "I don't answer questions - I just administer the shots." He told me that any questions I had could be answered by the nurse who he continued to tease the entire appointment! At one point, he scooted out of the room and said "sorry I don't answer questions," as he closed the door. The whole experience was almost comical! You would think after only having a puppy for a day that he would answer at least one question I had. Imagine if a human Dr. did this to you. Would you go back? The staff at the front desk and all of the nurses are knowledgeable and sweet. They are the only reason I'm giving this review 2 stars. I have been taking my dog and cat here for a few months now. Recently, my cat became ill and I took him in for a visit. Dr. Martinez and his staff were so patient, thoughtful, and thorough with the visit. I had a feeling that it may be serious and they were calm and realistic. After inconclusive X-rays, we were sent home for evaluation over the weekend. While the cat was a little better Monday, I took him back because he still wasn't quite back up to par. Dr. Martinez and his staff were once again took the time to assess the animal and talk to me about symptoms even though I did not have a firm appointment. After further evaluation and a follow-up X-ray, it was determined that there was a blockage and surgery was required. In addition to referring me to other vets and even taking it upon himself to shop prices, Dr. Martinez explained all of my options and the processes we were up against in clear and easy to understand terms. In the end, Dr. Martinez did the procedure himself, shifting appointments and pulling on staff for this unforeseen surgical procedure (before his day off, no less). I really appreciated how gracious he was with his interactions and how generous he was with his schedule. Likewise, he kept a close eye on our costs and went out of his way to make sure we didn't rush into an unnecessary procedure after the first round of X-rays were inconclusive. The staff and technicians were supportive and responsive with my 5+ phone calls in a single day. I liked this vet before today and I LOVE them after. They went above and beyond and were the constant professionals. I will never board or treat my animals anywhere else. read more

Where can I even start? I have two fur babies, Lola who is 7, and Karen who is 3. Up until now, I was taking them to Banfield mostly because of the convenience of their wellness plan. But other than that, I only have negative things to say about that clinic. I found Heights Hospital after doing a Google search and reading a lot of the reviews. Karen and I came in to her appointment on Saturday 07/13 and the front desk staff was super sweet and could not stop looking at Karen (she did not mind the love at all) The technician explained the process to Karen and I promise Karen looked at her the entire time, I wish I had a picture. Dr. Martinez is great, explained everything and expressed concerns without upselling any unnecessary treatment. I can't wait for Lola to come as well! Karen had no post-vet anxiety. I'm forever thankful and happy that my pets finally have the medical care they deserve. read more

Dr. Martinez is phenomenal. He spends so much time explaining not only solutions but the causes behind the problems. He went above and beyond ruling out my dogs skin allergies by quickly doing a skin scrape, analyzing it, and coming back in with a plan get my dog back into tip top skin and coat health. The assistants are great - super friendly and they really get to know your animal. It's like a special visit every time. Fantastic animal hospital. My girls little Chiwawa, Nolan, was spitting up foam and gaging one morning. I rushed him over. As soon as I brought him in I was greated by a friendly staff. The owner Kathleen rushed me back into a room. And w/in 60 seconds Dr Antonio Martinez came in looked at the dog, chatted with me, reassured me that he will be ok - explained the protocol and took him away. They were able to give him anti nausea meds, massage his esophagus and provided him with some sort of liquid that helped push the beef jerky down. The x-rays confirmed it. Fantastic job by the team and by Dr Martinez...I'm just lucky my girlfriend didn't kill me for feeding her dog the beef jerky (i.e. dog beef jerky). Yikes! Good prices too! read more

Parking is a little cramped, but the service from the acceptance desk to the "physician's assistant" to the actual veterinarian is beyond excellent. I brought my baby here a number of times, but most recently because he had a stone in his bladder. He was not able to urinate and needed care immediately. I was unable to attend so my partner and I were in constant communication to make sure we were making the best decisions for my pup. They drained his bladder and ran x-rays, confirmed he had a stone and needed surgery immediately. Since my partner needed to consult with me, he asked them to give him some time to fill me in while I was at work. Meanwhile, he could hear them gossiping in the other room about what services they should offer because they didn't think he was willing to pay. During this visit he asked multiple times for an estimate, finally after the 3rd time they provided one, but they managed to still leave things off. It was clear they were not genuine. They wanted to charge us upwards of $2000 for my pups surgery. After having spent nearly $400 and taking into account the staffs attitude, I wanted to get some second opinions. After letting them know, they insisted we would not find a vet that would give a better price. And ultimately made my partner and me feel extremely pressured and uneasy. My baby did not have a lot of time, so I called a handful of clinics and came across Animal Hospital Jones rd. They performed his surgery for nearly half the price and he is as good as new. They care and listen to everything you have to say, but ultimately treat you like a friend. I now bring my 3 dogs and cat to Animal Hospital Jones Rd. Even though this clinic is 20 miles from my home vs. the convenient 1 mile to heights animal hospital. It means so much more to me to be around doctors that care about my pups and their health, as well as provide affordable services. I will never bring my pets back here again. read more

Hands down! The best Veterinary Hospital in the Houston Heights. Dr. Martinez and his staff are friendly, caring and above all extremely knowledgeable. My girl, Willow is a rescue, (English Setter). She has a very large list of illnesses and has been under a veterinary care for years. My husband and I moved to the Heights a year ago and struggled to find the right vet for our girl. She has had bouts of Pancreatitis and chronic COPD that had other vets baffled and not sure what to prescribe. I have spent thousands trying to get her on the correct medications to get her healthy. We had a great vet off of the Katy Freeway but for emergencies we needed someone close by. We made an appt with Dr. Martinez after driving by one day. The office staff is friendly and personable. (also, CLEAN!) Dr. Martinez got our girl on the right path without throwing my medications and money at her illnesses. He got her on a lowfat diet and a few antibiotics. He called everyday to see how she was doing. That means so much to a pet parent. Anyway, we have gone back many times for vaccines and boarding. The whole team there from Stephanie, Reggie, Daniel, Lorena and Gina are just wonderful! If you are looking for a veterinarian that will look after your pet for life than look no further. On more than one occasion, this clinic has disappointed me tremendously. Not only are the staff impersonal when it comes to my fur babies, the vet Dr. Martinez is very inept. In my opinion, he is not qualified to care for any type of animal. Case in point, my diabetic dog had to have bladder removal surgery a while back. Dr. Martinez advised me to take my pug off his prescription diabetic food and put him on food they would help with the bladder stones. If course I didn't follow his advice because I was worried the change in food would negatively affect his diabetes. Needless to say, I've had enough. I will not subject my pugs to his ineptitude. They are my babies. I do not recommend this clinic to anyone. read more
