This post isn't about the service I received because we didn't get that far. However this is a post regarding their policies and how the message is given. Dog is needing surgical services and like any animal owner I'd like to know a range of pricing to understand where I'm going to land. Not an exact number but a nice range with a high degree of variability. That isn't the policy here. They immediately try to schedule an appt for a "consultation" and tell you you HAVE to pay a $50 deposit for this great honor, apparently. I told her before I commit to an appt I'm trying to see between them, blue pearl, and other facilities that are through our rescue network. She said verbatim "legally I cannot disclose pricing that's a conversation after you pay your deposit and have the consultation with your doctor". What? Are you kidding me? This tells me a few things, their pricing is astronomical and they try to lock you into surgery or lose your deposit. And they can't be trusted. If you have this shroud of secrecy around a range of pricing, then you aren't who I want to consider doing business with. These people have gotten too big for their britches. I'm looking elsewhere. read more

When you take your pet to a specialty emergency hospital, you're placing your trust in people with expertise you don't have. That's exactly what I did with Dr. Jocelyn Rodriguez Correa and Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. I didn't come in with a diagnosis. I came in with a concern. I told Dr. Rodriguez that I believed he may have been exposed to rat poison. I asked about both direct exposure and whether he could have become sick after eating something that had ingested rat poison. Based on my recollection, I left believing that possibility had effectively been ruled out. Our Cat remained under emergency veterinary care for more than six hours and was discharged with medications. He died the next day. Because I needed answers, I authorized a necropsy through the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. The toxicology report later confirmed Diphacinone in his liver, and the necropsy documented severe internal bleeding. For me, this isn't about an unexpected outcome. It's about trusting the advice I received from an emergency specialist after specifically raising the very condition that was later confirmed. Every pet owner has to decide where to seek emergency care. My experience taught me that asking the right questions is not always enough--you also have to trust that those concerns will be fully evaluated. After this event I decided to research GCVS and its ownership, what I found was quite disturbing.... GCVS is owned by a German Family named the Reimanns - They are the 2nd wealthiest family in Germany. Albert Reimann Sr. and his son Albert Reimann Jr. were both supporters of Hitler and the Nazis during World War II. They owned a German Chemical company at that time. Recent historical investigations, commissioned by the family itself, revealed damning details about their involvement in the Nazi regime: * Enthusiastic Supporters: Both men were avowed anti-Semites and enthusiastic early supporters of Adolf Hitler's Nazi party. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I am extremely disappointed with my experience. This is advertised as a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital. I have an exotic bird, so there are very few places that can provide emergency care. My bird was experiencing a life-threatening emergency, and I called ahead before coming in and was immediately told no they we no longer accepting patients. I still drove there hoping since it's a 24 ER. When I arrived, I was told they were no longer accepting any patients and that there was nothing they could do. Even after seeing her condition, they still refused and they were the only location that can treat exotic birds after hours. I understand that emergency hospitals can become very busy, but I expected to at least be placed on a waitlist, triaged, or given some type of assistance. Instead, I was simply turned away with no compassion, urgency, or meaningful guidance. The staff showed no sympathy for the seriousness of the situation. A 24-hour emergency facility should be prepared to handle emergencies, even if patients have to wait. Human emergency rooms don't simply refuse to see patients--they prioritize care based on urgency. Being told "no" without any attempt to help was heartbreaking and unacceptable, especially when my pet's life was at risk. I left feeling that the staff were rude, unprofessional, and lacking empathy. I sincerely hope no other pet owner has to experience what I did during an emergency. read more

The most difficult thing I have ever done but this facility was very kind and supportive. They even all signed a card for me when I came and picked up his ashes. If I could give this place -100 stars, I would. We rushed our 1 year old pup to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists because it was the closest emergency option. He had accidentally eaten beef cooked with garlic and onions, vomited, fainted, and was clearly in distress. We were scared and just wanted to get him help as fast as possible. As soon as we arrived, we were charged a $198 intake fee. After waiting about an hour and a half, they came back to us recommending x-rays, bloodwork, and a few shots, totaling around $1,300 on top of what we had already paid. It felt steep, but we went ahead because we thought it was necessary. The vet reassured us that our pup had "impressive vitals" after the initial tests, but said they still needed to run additional diagnostics. Nearly three hours later, they informed us that he had liver damage and would require extensive treatment, which would cost another $3,000. At that point, we asked a simple question: Had they given him any IV fluids? He had been there for about 8 hours by then. Their answer: No. We were shocked and furious. They were proposing thousands of dollars in treatments while our dog may have just been sitting in a kennel, suffering without even basic supportive care. We immediately declined the $3,000 treatment plan and took our pup out of there. The next morning, we went to our regular vet. Within an hour, he was properly diagnosed and treated with medication, for just $300. Thanks to them, he's doing so much better now. I cannot stress this enough: stay away from this place. I've since learned that others have had similar or worse experiences. A friend of mine brought their dog here, and sadly, their pet passed away. Too many reviews describe pets being kept for days with no real care, only to decline or die. In my opinion, this facility preys on vulnerable pet owners in moments of panic. They push for expensive treatments you may not need and provide little transparency about what's actually being done for your pet. I truly believe their goal is to maximize billing not to help your pet. This place is not about care it's about profit. Please, if you love your pet, go elsewhere. read more

We had a very positive experience with the veterinarians here--knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly caring. Unfortunately, the experience at the front desk completely undermined that. Less than a week after our dog passed, my girlfriend went in to pick up memorial items. Instead of being met with empathy, she was repeatedly pressed about an outstanding balance and told it could be sent to collections--despite the fact that the balance had already been paid earlier that same day. Whether it was still processing in their system or not, the tone and timing were completely inappropriate. What made it worse was the comment that they "weren't going to hold the memorial items hostage," which was unnecessary and insensitive given the situation. I did speak with a supervisor afterward, and she said she would address it, which I appreciate. But the damage was already done. During a time when clients are dealing with loss, the front desk should lead with empathy--not urgency over billing. If you come here, the medical care is excellent--but be aware that the experience at the end may not reflect that same level of compassion. read more

I had two fantastic techs, Skye at triage and Anna throughout Luc's care, who treated my cat as a regular, and let me know every step of the way what was going on. Triage was simple, phone and in person. I love vets who seem to genuinely worry about your pet as much as you do and empathize with that concern. I brought my French bulldog in a few weeks ago because she was having a hard time breathing. I didn't know if she were choking, and I thought I was doing the best thing by bringing her in. Upon arrival I was told i needed to pay 2000.00 to sedate her, which I did. 10 mins after I payed the 2000.00 I was brought into a room and told that she needed to be monitored a few days and that it cost 10,000.00 more, (they wouldn't do it until my payment went through on the 2000) so why not just say it'd cost that upon arrival? I thought being an animal hospital they'd attempt to help her. I don't want to hear it's the breed, I had brought another pet in before and it cost me 2000.00 and he was kept overnight, I don't know why the cost was drastically more this time...or if each vet has their own prices. I understand emergency care is expensive and requires upfront payment -- that's expected. But the front desk staff were cold, rude, and dismissive, which made an already stressful situation even worse. They took our dog back to be assessed and we waited over five hours before anyone talked to us! The waiting room was nearly empty -- so being "busy" wasn't the issue. When we finally saw Dr. Harper, she was excellent. She took time to explain everything, answer questions, and gave us hope. Unfortunately, the follow-up care was terrible. We called a few days later because our dog was still in pain, and even though they said someone would call us back, no one did. When we followed up ourselves, we were told we'd have to come back in for a new assessment with a different vet because Dr. Harper was out -- We only wanted something else for pain but they said they don't review the notes from our visit just three days earlier, we can bring her in or not. They suggested going back to our regular vet -- the same vet who referred us to them in the first place. Gulf Coast diagnosed our dog with degenerative disc disease and wanted to try meds before moving to an MRI, but now we're back at square one. There are only two neurology options -- this one and another in Spring, TX -- and GCV knows this! The lack of compassion, communication, and basic follow-up was unacceptable. We'll be driving to Spring, TX from now on and would NOT recommend GCV - maybe your experience will be different though! read more

Second time here. First time was when my dog was a puppy and had what appeared to be a UTI. This second time around was to see a specialist because it turns out my dog had chronic kidney dysplasia. They took her blood pressure or said they did and said it was high. Then said we needed to come back. We were waiting at the pharmacy when the tech came back out and said her blood pressure hadn't been taken but the doctor gave me her diagnosis and strategy based on the numbers I thought they had taken. I never got a follow up with the second blood pressure because the tech said it was high and then I said what do I do but she didn't know and no one followed up. That written, I believe there's room for improvement in the patient experience. On one occasion, my dog, clearly in pain, waited far too long to be seen. I had pain medication at home and felt another facility could better manage his acute IBD episode, so I paid my bill and asked to check my dog out. It took hours after I paid for them to give me my dog. The receptionist, who was not busy, said she couldn't get my dog but no tech was free. The door was literally 30 feet from us and all anyone had to do was walk in and bring him to me. The delay in returning him to me was so excessive that, even years later, I carry deep guilt for what he endured. It was cruel. I also strongly disagree with their IV protocol. I arrived with my dog already fitted with an IV, needing specialized testing beyond what our regular vet could offer. He was supposed to return to me with the IV still in place, as it was necessary for ongoing care. However, staff insisted on removing it, citing an unsupported infection risk. I had to advocate firmly to keep it in. Forcing a 5-pound senior dog to undergo another painful catheter placement, when removal is neither necessary nor evidence-based, is unacceptable. As healthcare professionals, it's essential that we uphold both evidence-based practices and a commitment to patient-centered care. Compassion should never be sacrificed for rigid protocols or unnecessary delays. Pain must be recognized as the fifth vital sign, an urgent indicator of suffering that demands timely intervention. They said a lot of issues existed in my dog's internal organs but offered no treatment and also wanted my pet stay in their icu until she dies that way they can keep charging me. I brought in my corgi puppy late at night because she had vomited a few times and may have had a seizure. I was already distressed, and instead of offering compassion or clear medical guidance, the staff immediately grabbed her and within five minutes were demanding $2,000 up front. They also insisted I call poison control, which cost another $95, before even running any tests or giving me a proper update. I was left sitting in a room crying while they used scare tactics, telling me my puppy might die if I didn't agree to their expensive treatment plan. I was told to apply for affirm , credit care credit or scratch pay. Actually, all that's listed in that room is payment options. Nothing else like tips on being a good pet owner or anything. Their main focus is get you to to pay for an expensive treatment. At one point, I was told she was temporarily blind, possibly suffering from a lifelong nerve disorder, and that I should prepare to be a frequent client with ongoing bills. Yet.....no tests had been run to support these claims. When I asked if she was even breathing, they casually said she was "on oxygen," which they made sound far more extreme than it actually was. When I was finally allowed to see her, she looked better than when I brought her in. She made eye contact, followed me with her eyes, and even blinked yet the vet still tried to convince me she was blind, saying she was only responding to "vibrations." What they had really done was simply place her in an oxygen cage. We offered to pay for a reasonable plan... fluids, overnight monitoring, and bloodwork but were told it was "all the tests or discharge." They then pushed euthanasia, suggesting it was the "humane" thing to do because her "quality of life" would be poor. This was appalling, especially since no testing had been done and my puppy was showing improvement right in front of me. We chose to take her home, monitor her, and give her fluids ourselves. By morning, she was completely back to normal without any of the unnecessary medications they had prescribed. This clinic preys on pet owners in crisis, exploiting emotions to push outrageously expensive and often unnecessary treatments. They were not focused on helping my puppy they were focused on my wallet. And kept asking how much can I put down? How much can I afford? The bill was almost 5K then drop down to 3K and then down to 1800 . If I had believed everything they told me, my healthy puppy would have been euthanized. This place is predatory. BEWARE. I spoke to another vet( not Affiliated with this establishment) I told them about what happened . I let them know how much she's improved And is eating well and walking fine and is even playful. The staff here is amazing and so caring. My dog Suki came here for an emergency visit due to her eye injury. They took us in right away and started surgery the next day to save her eye. It is pricey here, but they really do everything to take care of your beloved pet. We worked out a payment plan with the staff, and luckily, I have pet insurance as well. We got everything we needed to get Suki's surgery done. A few weeks went by, unfortunately, Suki's eye had too much trauma. She developed glaucoma in her eye, which was too painful, and her eye swelled up. We had to get a second surgery done to remove the eye. She's now almost 3 months since her enucleation surgery, and she's doing great! Recovery was easy. It's like nothing ever happened to Suki, and she's back to being a playful, happy pup. Thank you so much to the front staff, nurses at GCVC, and Dr. Robin Sankey! Suki comes in now and then for check-ups, and they love her there. They always make us feel welcomed, and we're glad we took Suki here. read more

Horrible place, get a second opinion! They are unprofessional and needs better bedside manner. The doctor is new to her career and had a terrible attitude when we asked questions about her suggested treatment. We came to seek a diagnosis when our dog was not eating. Immediately her suggestions were multiple expensive procedures totaling up to $12,000 with no logical thought process. When we tried asking questions she acted offended. We decided to get a second opinion and when we asked for our dog, she swore loudly behind closed doors. I'm glad my husband took our dog out of this facility and went to Vet Emergency Group (VEG) Sugarland. If we allowed our dog to stay at Gulf Coast, he would've ended up butchered in unnecessary procedures and surgery... for simply an upset stomach! read more

A 1 star is extremely generous. Plain and simple - this is a business that is aimed at profits, not saving your fur baby. In early June of this year, our 5 year old chi was referred here as there were spots found on his liver and a mass between his small and large intestine via an ultrasound done by our primary vet. After $3k worth of tests, 3 weeks and no definitive prognosis, we agreed with GCVS to have surgery as a secondary ultrasound (they said the first ultrasound was "not real" confirmed the mass and that was likely the reason for his chronic vomiting. Another 2 weeks and another $8k later, we were absolutely shocked to hear from GCVS in our post surgery consultation that when they opened him up, there was no mass! Surgery was $8k. They informed us that they took several biopsies and were sending them out for analysis. We sat on pins and needles for another 3 weeks, nursing our little guy back to life. Another 2 weeks went by and we began to press for answers. Finally after 3 weeks, they told us that he had an extremely aggressive cancer, something we knew in our gut the whole time. We are confident we would have had another 8-12 months with our pet but trusted the "expertise" of the vets at GCVS. Hindsight 20/20, we ended up agreeing to have surgery on our dog to remove a mass that wasn't there in the first place and probably significantly accelerated his death. We also took issue with their professionalism as well. Upon surgery discharge, they gave us 2 medications with 2 single use syringes. One medication was a week and the other for 2 weeks. Concerned as the syringes clearly say "Single use, discard after use" I called them and their response was "that's not true, it's just the syringe company getting people to buy more". By the same token, upon paying at the front desk for that days services, we were distraught with visual tears on our faces. The people at the front desk just kept telling us how beautiful our dog was. Not the time..... The last straw was telling them that Eddy had passed on July 30 and receiving calls from their oncology department two weeks into August trying to get Eddy in for treatment after we told them Eddy passed. Sometimes when I'm driving long distance, I put cruise on and just Coast. I like to Coast all over the Gulf Coast but let's face it, I-10 isn't the best highway for cruise. But it is a good hwy for this vet. This is a very expensive vet, but it's an emergency vet so it makes sense. They do an excellent job and if money is no object and it's an emergency, then this is your go-to place. Some of the other emergency places actually charge a lot more, so I would put it near the head of the list of the best ones. When it comes to our little furry babies money doesn't really matter, and if you have the money and it's life or death, then these people will go a long way to making sure it's life. read more

PRIVATE EQUITY DISGUISED AS A HOSPITAL! Girlfriend came here seeking help with her 10 month old corgi pup. The dog had a possible seizure and my gf was very distraught and panicked. Immediately the hospital staff requested a $2k deposit before they would even treat the animal. About an hour later, they came back with a $4k vet bill filled with all kinds of tests and said she needs to stay on oxygen. I was on the phone with the gf and demanded to speak with the vet. Some pharma grad calling himself a "veternarian" gave us 2 options. Pay the bill to run the tests or put her to sleep. WTF?! The pup had a minor seizure when she was little (the same day she was given a heart worm trifecta treatment btw) and his response was she most likely has a lifelong degenerative condition that needs constant medicine and expensive care. Then he said she was stable but was possibly blind and was leaning to one side. He claimed she needs 24 hour observation and it wasnt safe to release her. Another vet tech also came in the waiting area, fear mongering saying we needed to do the tests or she might die... ALL BULLSHIT! I told my gf to go in the back and just check on the pup. She looked fine! Then magically the bill dropped to $3k. When we said no, we'd just like to give her fluids, run a blood test and stay overnight they refused. They took off additional tests and said the minimum they could do was $1800. GTFO. We said no and they very reluctantly discharged her and gave us anti-seizure meds and some antibiotics. This place is very PREDATORY. They are monetized by your emotional distress. Please read the other 1 star reviews! The pup is doing much better now. Our guinea pig, Daisy Mae, had been diagnosed with urinary stones and an infection Thursday by her normal vet. She was taking antibiotics and a pain killer. She was not eating well so she was also taking Critical Care (liquid food). We monitored Friday and Saturday and she seemed okay but showed no improvement, but we hoped the antibiotics would begin to help her. Sunday her condition had worsened and she needed emergency care. We took her to GCVS and it was a massive mistake. We arrived around 2:15pm and they took her immediately to give her oxygen. No one took a medical history, so I don't know if they were every aware of her condition before examining her. At around 3:30 I met with the doctor in an exam room and made the difficult decision to go ahead with euthanizing her. I didn't want her to suffer any more and if it was her time I wanted her to die peacefully, painlessly and with dignity. Over the next hour I sat in the exam room by myself crying and growing increasingly anxious. A form was brought in for me to sign at some point, but it was the only time anyone came in. At around 4:45, I emailed the general information address and asked if I could get a breath of air as it was becoming overwhelming. Someone responded yes quickly, but I couldn't bring myself to leave because I didn't want to be outside if anything happened. A bit after 5pm the doctor came back with Daisy Mae and started to give her a shot to start the procedure, but I noticed she was stiff and not moving. I asked if she had already died. The doctor checked her heartbeat and confirmed Daisy Mae had already passed away. It is difficult to come to terms with the fact she likely died somewhere in the back alone and no one at GCVS noticed. I realize they were busy, but it seems like they could have at least brought her to be in the room with me if they couldn't care for her. Devastated, I asked if she had given her pain medication as it had been just over 24 hours since her last dose (she was to take the medicine she had been prescribed by her normal vet every 24 hours). I was hoping for some peace of mind that hopefully she died without pain. While they said yes, I think I will never really know. When I left and stopped at the front desk to pay the bill, they told me my balance due. I asked if it included the euthanasia procedure and she said yes. I asked her to remove it because the procedure never happened. They said someone from billing would have to call me as she couldn't remove it. I reached out Sunday evening to the only email on the website to explain my disappointment at how Daisy Mae was treated. No one has reached out. It has been less than 24 hours, so I am giving the benefit of the doubt that maybe eventually someone will. I wanted to share what happened to Daisy Mae for anyone with an animal in a critical situation. It may have just been unfortunate timing or bad luck in our case, but if I had to do it over again, I would not take our pet to GCVS. Daisy Mae being by herself as she died will haunt me and I feel awful for the decision to take her to GCVS. read more

This was such a horrific experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. They don't listen, they don't communicate, and it's clear that the only thing fueling this place is money -- no actual interest in your pet's wellbeing. They didn't listen to me when I told them that my dog was nearing the end. I pleaded with them and told them I wanted to do a compassionate euthanasia before things got too bad. They convinced me to put her on a bunch of medications to prolong her life, and then when I needed refills of those medications (just days later), they wouldn't return my calls and didn't answer my questions. So she suffered. She died in pain (just as I feared she would) because they didn't listen, and took days to respond to simple refill requests. And then when I sent a message letting them know she had passed, no one even bothered to reply. Not a single "I'm sorry to hear" or anything. Not a word. It was clear from day one that they didn't care about her health or wellbeing -- the only thing they're in it for is the thousands of dollars I spent each visit. They made a heartbreaking experience far more painful than it ever needed to be, for both my dog and myself. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. read more
