    Garden Pick Market, Escondido
    Alex D.

Accessibility: disabled parking available and lots of other parking! The doors to enter the building are left open so no worries about coming inside! Regular carts are available to shop with and lean on if you need, but no, I did not see any motorized carts to sit on and use. Shopping/prices: most of the food and household item prices are the same as other grocery stores, but the meat was cheaper and they have a great selection. They have meat that some other stores don't sell, kinds of meat you can find often in Mexico that work great with different meals. There is also tons of fruits and vegetables which I loved. Employees/service: all the employees are wonderful and kind, and they speak Spanish as well as English. A lot of the food also have labels in Spanish and English! Great place :)

Metal gate closed with my son inside

4/14/2024 7:50pm. My son went in to fill up 2 water jugs. They locked the metal gate behind him. The whole store was blocked off with carts & fruit stands and my son couldn't get out. We had to go in & get him out. This is AFTER the owner contacted me about this exact same issue that happened before. Looks like they don't listen.

This market is one of only a few that sell warm, freshly made flour tortillas on-site. Highly recommend!

Ok ok, I know what you're going to say, how there's "fruit stand (West)" also down the street which I've been and continue to support but I've found that they only tend to have fruits/veggies when in season or not at all. Also- the West place is a bit too expensive for my taste so thus my excitement when I found this new little place! A couple of older Mexican women (maybe mom and daughter) were listening to the radio, giggling about what they were listening to, when I drove up. The younger of the women shared what they had for sale (also in season stuff) but I was only interested in the avocados. $5 a bag for smaller ones and $1 each for bigger avocados. Most were semi-ripe or hard so can last up to couple of weeks. I paid in cash- unsure they take cards. This looks like a family small owned business so my guess is cash only. But don't quote me on that. They also had fresh honey, cooked nopales in jars, dragon fruit, mangos, cherries and other stuff that I can't think of right now. Great prices! Organic? Probably not but all good with me! Not sure if this is connected to the nursery but it's in the same location. Go support local family farms!

But, based on the great reviews here, in April I decided to give Be Wise a try for CSA. Initially, it took about a month to get my application processed, but after that, everything has been smooth sailing! We have an every-other-week subscription and I am always so impressed with the freshness and quality of the produce. CLEAN and CRISP spring mix, ripe peaches, the tastiest strawberries that you've ever eaten! And potatoes to die for! Yes, even something as simple as the humble potato can be a thing of glory when it is FRESH and roasted with tasty butter and herbs! Out of this world taste! I love that we can support a LOCAL family run-business, enjoy vitamin-packed ORGANIC produce and have a smaller ecological footprint than using the plastic-wrapped dead produce at the grocery store. Thanks Be Wise!

They offer tasting experiences once a month where they use the products in recipes and you can reserve a spot on their website. I have not been to one yet, but it seems like a great way to learn and taste more about the jellies, jams and marmalades. They use local fresh ingredients and the glass bear jars are adorable and would make a great gift or to keep for yourself. Highly recommend stopping by their storefront or ordering online if you are unable to make it from 9am-2pm Tuesday through Saturday and they do suggest to call ahead before you visit.
