Since moving into town we tried this spot before I saw the reviews, I was kinda shocked. My family prefer our Chinese food takeout from this spot. The sesame chicken had a good balance of meat plus crunchy texture. We might pass on the beef and peppers but the beef and broccoli is a good go to. I'm a fan of the egg rolls. I have been ordering from Garden Rice for over 20 years and it's still the same great Chinese takeout that I love. My go to is the steamed dumplings and pork lomein. This is the absolute worst Chinese food I've ever had. If I could give negative stars, even that review would be kind. Sweet and sour chicken was a carton of rice and a carton of dried out fried chicken bits with a side container of sauce that looked like neon orange nuclear waste. No vegetables, just fried "chicken" and rice. Steamed dumplings were a soggy, doughy mess. I should have paid more attention to the fact that I've never actually seen customers in the restaurant...can you say "red flag"?! Staff was perfectly nice, but the food is inedible. Got the general tso chicken. We called the restaurant because the texture seemed like tofu. We were told they didn't make a tofu general tso. It's 100% not chicken, though, so we decided not to eat it, and move on to the crispy wonton noodles. Opened the bag. Completely stale. Will not be going here ever again. read more

I asked for General tsos chicken and they gave me tofu... which was disgusting... My pork fried rice tasted like plastic honestly it didn't taste like real food...thier sweet and sour chicken is not what is sold in a normal Chinese restaurant... it's like a piece of chicken fried in a dough which was disgusting and had me gagging... I don't understand the low reviews. This is predominantly a takeout Chinese place, although there are some chairs. The food is always fresh, they take special requests, no msg, friendly owners, it's hard to go wrong here. We go here all the time and have never been disappointed, it's consistently good. Standard Chinese take-out You can sit and eat there but it feels grimy in some way. Let's say ambience is not their thing. I ordered pan fried vegetable dumplings and it took awhile.....my 5 year old was ranting ''hey... what's taking so long while she's standing on the bench". I normally will say be patient.....but they really did take their time. The dumplings are not spectacular...the skin part was just too thick and the vegetables were minced cabbage...barely any mushrooms in them. They do have lunch specials that ranges $5.50-6.15 with rice and choice of soup....these specials are good only Mon-Sat 11 am-3pm..worth a try for on the cheap food. Will go here because it's convenient....next to the library and will eat it on the picnic tables behind the library...not in their place. Ewwwww! Eating Garden rice-THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. The chicken chow mean was a sloppy glob of prison food. The chicken was as white As an Irish-man. I watched my two friends gasp for air while eating the food. My one good friend Carsa is currently on the toilet pooping out his intestines (R.I.P CARSA). They are ok. I used to get dumplings here as a meal, every once in awhile. Now I hold out for the $1.25 dumplings you can get in New York Chinatown. I've had their other dishes as well. Roast pork lo mein and chicken with broccoli are some of my regular favorites at any Chinese takeout place. They do have some seating area so you could stay if you liked. read more

The peanut noodles were barely edible and we had to throw them out and the pork fried rice was terrible. There was barely a piece of chicken in the moo shoo chicken. Completely terrible! Garden Rice is another restaurant I literally live right across the street from.They do a mean General Tso's Chicken. Extra Crispy, just like I like it. They also make a great Shrimp toast. Just one slice is a meal in itself. I also really like their Hot and Sour Soup. They put all kinds of stuff in it like tofu chunks, scallions and water chestnuts. The people that run it are very nice as well. My go to place for Chinese Food in Chatham. Way better than the Bean Turd. read more

When they are on... They are excellent. But when they are off, they are average at best. The problem here is consistency. My wife and i order once a week due to the proximity to our home and the delivery service, but they are sometimes so good where it tastes like gourmet Chinese food and then we order the exact same thing and it is average. If they could get the consistency down they would be great. Until then i have to rate them as average. I do recommend because when they are on its fantastic! read more

Definitely does not deserve 3 and a half stars. Food was beyond overpriced for what it is. Fried rice was bland, plain, and tasted like plain yellow rice you get from a package, and had no vegetables and the chicken was rubbery and overdone. Chicken and broccoli was plain and again gummy. Duck sauce in packets tasted off. Don't waste your time or money. We called to complain and were not treated the way a customer should be. When we complained we were asked what our problem was and told that no other customers had complained. We were told as the customers we were wrong for not being ok with the quality of the food. Never have I been treated this way in a restaurant. If someone complains, the first thing you do is offer a refund because it is your job to make sure your customer is satisfied. Not happy. Without a doubt the worst Chinese food we've ever had. The peanut noodles were barely edible, threw most of it out. The pork fried rice was basically yellow rice with very few pieces of pork. And the moo shu chicken was all moo shu, no chicken. Absolutely awful. I went so far as to call and complain and the woman who answered (and apparently who also cooked the dog food) immediately became defensive and basically told me to go somewhere else if we weren't happy with her cooking. Terrible food, terrible customer service, a complete waste of almost $30. I would give it 0 stars, but unfortunately I cannot post this review unless I give it at least 1.
