My husband and I first tried Garlic and Ginger when it was buffet-style, and we liked it, but we knew we had to come back to get something from the full menu. We both liked our dishes! The servings look small, but it turned out to be the perfect size - we finished it all and weren't too full. The garlic naan was yummy. Lots of rice! Our only complaint is the prices. We had an amazing dinner at Garlic and Ginger! My husband got the Jalfrezi and I got the Chicken Tikka Masala. We ordered two orders of their amazing garlic naan. For dessert we had Gulab Jamun which reminded me (in the best way) of delicious cardamom soaked pancake balls. The service was amazing--polite and attentive! We had a nice quiet booth. Went here for a comforting meal and was not disappointed! I had the paneer pakora and the butter chicken, and both were absolutely delicious. Service was a little bit on the slower side, but the staff were all very friendly and I enjoyed my meal. I will definitely be coming back here!!! read more

I tried G&G for the first time today, despite wanting to visit ever since it opened. I love Indian food and, unfortunately, that is a cuisine we have very little choices for here in the 'Burg. I visited for lunch and the only option was the buffet, which was totally fine with me on the this visit as I was excited to try a variety of dishes. Every single item I tasted was fantastic - pakoras, house made curry, tandoori chicken were stand outs. Service was very friendly and kind. It was on the pricy end for a lunch, at nearly $19, but it's a buffet and I certainly ate more than I normally would if I'd ordered one dish. Can't really complain about that. I'm so glad that we are starting to get more ethnic foods here in Spartanburg. It's amazing to have Indian food. Right now they offer a buffet but soon they will be offering plates on their menu. They're offerings are a variety of different Indian dishes that are familiar to most people as well as several several different types of naan. The location has been the home of two other restaurants so my hope is that this one will stick. read more

Yall, I'm pretty sure Indian food cured my two-month long cold. I looked it up and apparently Indian food has a lot of natural antioxidants and boots immunity. I used to say I didn't like Indian food but now I'm all in, it's not as spicy as I thought it was and it is sooo good for you. If your hesitant to try new foods, you should try the chicken tiki-marsala or butter chicken. Oh and order some Naan while you're at it, 10/10 the best bread I have literally ever had. read more

Ok, not sure what I think. I love Indian food and I was excited that Spartanburg finally getting an Indian restaurant. HOWEVER, as of today it is only buffet and a very limited buffet at that. I paid for two people including drinks. The bill? $53.00. I find that very expensive for the limited selection. The food was ok but certainly not the best Indian food I've ever had. It was rather bland and absent the layers of flavor most Indian food has. Hopefully they will have a menu where I can get my food made to order. I might give it one more try once they have been open a while but I was disappointed. read more

Wasn't expecting a lot since it was new but boy were we wrong to expect anything. We ordered the 'feast' and a few other sides and when we got it, it was just a plate of meat, one member of our group asked after we were almost done, where all the other food was. She looked us dead in the eyes and told us that's all and you have to order more to get more. What?! We are not going to pay 45 dollars for a piece of half chicken and 3 shrimp! Another lady came over and told us the kitchen was working on it. 20 minutes later we get half the rest of our food! We had to ask 4 more times to get the rest of our food! I understand they're new but it was the whole experience that threw it off. Also the cucumber salad was just 6 cucumbers and we still didn't get our chai! After we were about done we went up to pay and we quickly asked why we didn't get our raita and they asked if we want it to go? To go?! With what food? I'm not just going to chug the yogurt! After giving Garlic and Ginger a long wait to sort things after our first visit, we revisited last night. Sadly, they don't seem to be sorted after nearly a year. No one greeted us at the door as we waited along with a party who was there before us. We were informed after a long wait to seat ourselves. We found we several tables set up as what appeared to be make shift restaurant offices and one small table available by the back door so we took it. The server had a great attitude but was stretched very thin as she was the only server on a Sat night!The restaurant was not attractive inside.. really a bit tired and in need of an update. Having tables covered with paperwork in the dining room seemed unprofessional. We shared an app, had 2 entrees and 3 glasses of wine. Our bill was just over $100 with tip. We felt our experience was ordinary, the food was lack luster especially the chef's special shrimp korma at $25 which was so disappointing. The restaurant was short staffed and not very clean. If our food had been excellent, we would have been more understanding. We felt the experience wasn't in line with the prices. We were hoping Garlic and Ginger would bring a wonderful new restaurant to Spartanburg but sadly, that's not the case or at least not for us last night. read more

Family gathering environment buffet is abundant with delicious choices. Service prompt clean dining room along with outdoor dining areas. Food is not to spicy can taste every food on budget, if buffet is not your choosing can order from the menu. I love Indian food, the spices, the variety of geographical influenced dishes and the flavor bomb that comes with every course and option. Very excited to have such a wonderful spot like Garlic & Ginger open up in Spartanburg. We visited for dinner and the menu is extensive. All your favorites are there and also a good selection of Chef Specials that should span most palates for an opportunity to try something G&G is really proud of. We stuck to the traditional dishes since it was our first visit and we wanted to get a feel for our favorites. The wife went with chicken curry and I chose lamb vindaloo. We also ordered chaat, can't remember the name but chickpeas, cucumbers, yogurt etc and the butter naan. First, the food and all of the flavors were amazing. Dishes came out quickly and both the curry and vindaloo were spiced appropriately without being overly aggressive. I like a hotter spice for my Vindaloo and I found this one to be spot on, where I felt enough heat; but, I'm sure it wouldn't overpower someone that likes a more average heat index. I'll give it a "2" for friendly staff alone. Food was sub-par lacking typical Indian flavor. If you like the taste of bland food, as so many older people seem to prefer, then this restaurant is for you. The pre-packaged frozen stuff at your local grocer packs a better taste. read more

We ate here the opening weekend at the dinner buffet. We were really excited to have an Indian restaurant open here in Spartanburg. Unfortunately we were disappointed. First there was no menu and no prices were posted anywhere. The bill was over $70 for 3 dinner buffets. Second, that price became even more outrageous after we started eating. The food was mediocre at best. The palak paneer was decent, but the veggie curry was obviously made with frozen mixed vegetables. In my opinion not an acceptable choice when charging over $20 per person. There was a fish that was definitely more Chinese than Indian which would have been acceptable if it had actually tasted good, but it was nothing more than a westernized version. Third, there was many staff milling around, but not one came by our table to pick up used dishes or refill our water. We will try Garlic and Ginger again in a month or so when there is a menu. But right now for my money, I will drive to Greenville to eat at Saffron. read more

We LOVE the food here. We've had Indian food in tons of major cities, and this is by far our favorite. The naan is totally made from scratch and is delicious! Others have commented that the buffet is small. It may be slightly smaller than some, but every single thing on it is amazing. I would choose quality over quantity any day. We are excited about an Indian place in Spartanburg. The restaurant still looks how it did when it was Mellow Mushroom and Mata's. The menu is plentiful with lots of choices. I had the Rogan Josh and it was really good. You can pick your spice level as well. The service was very attentive. In the past if we wanted Indian food we'd have to venture to Saffron (which we still will) but it is good to have another option closer to home. Go support this place. read more

We have been there 4 times since they opened, always in the evening. The food is delicious! The service is great! We love the family meal at the back of the menu. It's about $45 and enough for 2 adults 2 kids easily. The venue is beautiful too, and there's easy parking. It's nice that the kitchen is visible from the dining area. It is kind of reassuring that there's nothing to hide. You can see your food being made and brought to the table. We have always thought the only thing Spartanburg needed was an Indian restaurant and the little convenience store takeout place wasn't cutting it. This is the third time I've eaten here. Started with the buffet when they first opened and was not blown away. The second time I had Palak Paneer and Butter Chicken for carry out and it was really good. Tonight a group of us went after work and I had Palak Paneer again (spicy this time) with Butter Naan.
