You have probably passed by this place and said to yourself, there is no way that restaurant is opened. Next time, stop and go inside, it's opened! The prices are reasonable and the portions are plenty. The service is stellar with plenty of seating for any size group. We had such a wonderful experience here and all of us enjoy the food. We ordered takeout, the food came fairly quickly and the person serving us was friendly and to the point. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken combo and it was very good, along with the sauce and the rice. It is not your typical fried rice, looks wise it appears more orange but it tastes the same as the usual brown fried rice. Outside of the restaurant was kind of scary looking and barren, but once you step inside there is decorations everywhere to make up for the exterior looks. It is a bit aesthetically outdated inside and out, but overall not a bad experience and would eat there again. read more

The sweet & sour chicken was tender. The teriyaki chicken was overcooked. Sauces were served in a separate dish. Rice was the perfect texture. Looking at the outside I was a little skeptical about going in however, the inside is beautiful and clean. We're happy we stopped here. Service was excellent. Long time go to for classic Chinese in Spartanburg. The food while pretty greasy is good. It's really what you expect of a Chinese restaurant. The same lady always takes my order and is very friendly. The building could certainly use some rejuvenation, but I'd really hate for anything to change. Not everything needs to be torn down and modernized. Going to New China is like taking a step back in time to a simpler better time. read more

By far the best "fast food" Asian restaurant around. I can't vouch for everything but I'm super picky about my rice and their rice is 100% on point. I only buy rice from the Asian grocery store and cook it in my rice cooker and their rice was exactly like mine. I'm also not a fan of sauces but their sweet and sour sauce was perfect and the chicken was freshly fried and hot. Don't judge this place by their appearance, def go check them out. read more

I've checked into this place 3x, but we've probably been 4 or 5x in 4months. 5mo new to the area. Somehow it took us a month of being here before we found this gem. It is definitely a diamond in the rough. We're picky with our Americanized/westernized Chinese food & We love this food. It also helps the owner, who not only serves, busts tables, but with some magical powers remembers orders after 1 or 2 times of visiting. I also have to mention, she seems to genuinely care about her patrons. I had to step out early one evening, not feeling well, to no fault of theirs (stupid sinus infection) & she was so concerned about my well-being, making sure my husband let me know. I think their hot tea is a good fall/winter pick-me-up. They have the best, fresh egg rolls. The General Tso's is cooked well, not too much breading and all white meat, & the sauce is perfect. When on a diet, the steamed entrees are just as good. May have to revert back to those for awhile, the General Tsos & egg rolls are starting to show! The ambience is nice, but if you're expecting a 5 star decor, you'll be a bit disappointed. It seems the profits may go back into the food, not necessarily the decorations. I guess if you've never had Chinese food, this place is okay. The food lacks flavor and variety and falls victim to the perception that you can't get good Chinese food in the south. Sad indeed. read more

I read some reviews claiming that Amy (the owner?) was mean or not very nice? Well she wasn't to me and my wife, and it seems she has a steady flow of regular customers who she knows by name and they know her. Is the place old school? Yep, it is. Is the food good, which is what's important here, you bethcha! Amy says she lived in NY once and the taste of the food taste pretty close to NY to me. Egg roll came out hot and crunchy. Shrimp with lobster sauce? Delicious. The sauce was the correct thickness or consistency I've had in some old NY Chinese take outs and restaurants. My wife had the chicken mei fun and she says it was excellent as well. So if you are looking for good Chinese food here in the upstate of South Carolina, this place has it. read more

Awesome find! Looked very old school and promising and it did not disappoint! I'm from CA so I'm used to Cantonese style cooking as I grew up eating my family's cooking and west coast Chinese food. I ordered the Harvest Nest and it was just like I remembered. I spoke some Cantonese to the owner lady Amy, but she did not speak the dialect. It has been a long time since I've had such excellent Chinese food. My boyfriend and I ordered take out and it was incredible. The beef mei fun (in the carton) was delicious. The noodles are an excellent texture. We agreed we would get it again with chicken to see if we like it just as much. The twinkle chicken (with the broccoli and peas) was delicious. I requested it had a little spice added and it was perfect. (Could have used more spice) The capital chicken (with the peppers) was sweet. It barely had a kick to it but it was really delicious too. I would definitely get them all again, but I think I want to try even more of their options!! Definitely a must-try. (Even though the front door is a little sketchy. Love this place! Love especially the fabulous woman who runs it. You walk in once, you feel like family and she will remember every dislike or allergy you have. The food is wonderful and I admit I missed coming in person through covid quite a bit, but was grateful that we were able to stay hooked up with our favorites through delivery options on hub city. Hubby and Toddler ordered Crispy Chicken with White Rice. I ordered the simple shrimp fried rice. Theres obviously many selections on the menu which made me indecisive about my order so we stuck with the same favorite dishes :). I was looking forward to almond shrimps :( I took photos of their menu for your convenience, if you like to check them out. The Hostess/Waitress is very friendly and nice. Although she seems to work alone during the day, she provides fast service to her customers. This restaurant and the building itself seems old but is highly clean and the atmosphere is casual. Conflicted Still on the manhunt for some Delicious General Tsos. Place was empty but we decided to give it a try. Sat quickly and helped fast. I ordered the General Tsos Combo with fried rice and a eggroll. The egg roll came out first, it was a little hotter than warm but not piping hot. The egg roll was EXCELLENT!!! Wow been looking for an egg roll like this for awhile. It was cripsy, good flavor and had a decent amount of pork in it. I ordered another to eat with my dinner. The duck sauce that was on the table in a generic squeeze bottle. It was definitely watered down and do not know how clean it was. Used it anyways. The main entree came out super hot. First the fried rice was FANTASTIC! It was a yellow rice with veggies (frozen) but was really good!!!! Sadly the General Tsos chicken did not meet the expectations. The meat was big chunks and not straight breading. This was a huge plus. The sauce was a major let down... It was just a sugary tasting sauce with little to no flavor!!! Also no spice noted to sauce, event though there were the chiles. It was almost like a generic orange chicken sauce. Definitely did not remind me of General Tsos. No flavor of garlic and the sauce was super light in color. Now.... the second egg roll. WHAT HAPPENED!!!! It went from an amazing masterpiece to crap that was almost inedible. The second egg roll came out EXTREMELY hot, which meant fresh to me, but it tasted like the frying oil they used. All the flavor was masked, except the taste of dirty oil!!! read more

This is my FAVORITE Chinese Restaurant. It has been in Spartanburg for a long time, and I have been going there since before I can remember. Everything on the menu is great. The Hot & Sour soup is the best I have ever had. I have tried Hot & Sour soup at a lot of other restaurants and not one has lived up to the Hot & Sour soup at New China! The restaurant is pretty spacious and is classily decorated in a Chinese theme. It's great for both dine-in and take-out orders. (They even have those fun fold up cardboard take-out boxes) The owners are very friendly and always remember what we like to order! If you have never been to New China, go there today!
