This might be the best buffet I have ever been to. The food was outstanding. I always check out the wings, because often at these places they are just okay. Not here. They were very meaty and had a great taste to them. Same with the shrimp and pork dumplings. I can't name a single thing I didn't love except the ice cream, but I'm still giving this place 5 stars. Nearly every time I hit a Chinese buffet, I enjoy it at the time and then feel guilty later. Same thing here with Sun King in Spartanburg. I did pretty well with the proteins, avoiding the highly sauced items and the fried stuff. Stir fried vegetables, beef and broccoli, baked seafood, chicken on a stick. All of those were great and I mostly stuck to my keto diet. At 7:30 pm, the restaurant was clean and they were restocking food as it ran out. My waitress refilled my drink and cleared dirty plates. Figured I'd give this place a try because I'm stuck in the area for work purposes due to Helene flooding my hometown, Chinese sounded good, and Yelp said they had wifi. First off, the wifi is a lie. They do not have publicly accessible wifi. Whoever marked 'yes' here is incorrect. Fortunately I was still able to (barely) make a mobile hotspot work here so I could still have the Chinese that sounded good. Now to the food: it was okay. Basically consider mall-grade Chinese food, give or take. Nowhere near "good," but not really "bad" either. Just kinda is. Then there's the ambiance: it's noisy. That's okay, par for the course for a buffet. Service was slightly subpar, had to actually chase the waiter down to get a refill on my drink (after waiting about 15mins). Price was a bit on the high side for what you got (a bit more than mall food in price, for mall-quality food, and subpar service, wifi that's a lie, and then add the tip on top of that ofc). Overall, if I had nowhere else to eat, I might be back...but odds are that'll never happen, so I'll probably never return. read more

Today an old friend and I visited this buffet restaurant! We occasionally go to various buffets and check on the food, service, and the overall experience that we had. We had a 5 star one here! I posted a picture of our first round of plates .You don't need to see the rest of it! My pal and I can devour a large amount of food when it's really good like today. Two of the three dinner plates belong to my friend. He always gets two plates at a buffet off the get go! I can only speculate why? I don't do that. This was my first time here and I loved it ! There was a tremendous amount of delicious food offered. It was Tuesday ( today) and that's not normally a busy day of the week for the local crowd. Surprisingly to me this place began to fill up really fast as noon approached. The quality and quantity of the food today was excellent! The service here was great and appreciated! Usually have a good visit to this restaurant but not today. My girlfriend has a dairy allergy and asked for help identifying what items had dairy or were cooked in butter. She was told they didn't have time to help her. Didn't have time! We were there at 3pm not a rush hour by any stretch. I had already gotten a plate and sat back down but when my girlfriend came back and told me they wouldn't help i took the check to the desk and told them we were leaving. They actually expected me to pay. If they don't care enough about the health of 1 of their customers to take 2 minutes to prevent her from getting sick i doubt i will ever go to this restaurant again. read more

I was in the mood for some good Chinese food, so I ordered some yesterday for delivery. Having never ordered Chinese food in Spartanburg, I took at chance on Sun King. I had the orange beef. It looked good and smelled good. BUT. I've had far better. It was BLAND, and orange beef should never be bland. The beef itself was tender; no complaint there. The orange flavor was minimal, and the heat you should have in on your palate when eating this dish wasn't there. The broccoli was very underone. I don't like my steamed veggies to be mushy, but I do like them cooked. This stuff was almost raw. Overall, the dish was extremely disappointing. If you don't know how to make orange beef, and the cooks at this place clearly don't, then take it off the menu. My companion had the Seafood Delight. Again, the veggies were almost raw; I don't know who's cooking the food at this place, but if I want raw vegetables, I'll eat a salad. Steam them longer! There were a very few small bay scallops. There were a few small shrimp. The king crab meat wasn't king crab. It was imitation crab. I have included a photo as proof. FALSE ADVERTISING. Don't tell me I'm buying king crab and give me sh*tty imitation crab. And don't assume that your customers won't know the difference. The village idiot would know the difference between real crab and that crap imitation stuff. The sauce was decent. It was described as a "white wine" sauce," but there was no white wine used in it that I could detect. I love sticky rice with Asian food. This stuff wasn't sticky. Another disappointment. When next I want good Chinese food, I assure you that I'll order elsewhere. Sun king is a good buffet/take-out restaurant. The food was hot and very tasty. The service is sub-par at least I only saw our server 1 time after getting our drinks when we arrived. My daughter's drink never even received a refill. We were there for a total of 30-40 minutes. I also placed an order to go it took like 5 minutes to receive the order (super fast). There are several people in my family that regard going here a treat. They have lunch and dinner buffet, priced about what you would expect to pay. Drinks are cheaper than most other places. Service is good, and the bathrooms are always clean. The good thing about this place is the traffic. You know they have fresh food out because they are always busy. The sushi they have available on the buffet is quite good, as is the bourbon chicken. I am a fan of their crab rangoon, also, because they fold it before frying, rather than the pinching that some restaurants do. Overall a pleasant dining experience. The staff was cold and rude, the waitress had a problem bringing drinks for 2 members of our party that were in the bathroom. When the drinks did come out they were flat and flavorless. Not a single item they offered was warm let alone hot or fresh, the cabbage in there spring rolls was slimy and wilting. The chocolate chip cake there offered for dessert was hard, dry and sponge like in flavor and taste. The only saving grace is that it's fairly cheap, but price can not make up for bad food. Horrible service from disrespectful people. Me, my husband, and my mother went in for lunch today. My husband couldn't stay the whole time. When he got outside the guy behind the cash register came out after him and asked if he was with other people. My husband said yes, and they are still inside with the ticket. The guy yelled at my husband for not telling him before he walked out. My husband apologized for the inconvenience. It should have been over at that point. NOPE. The guy goes back inside, and brings out another employee to harass my husband. When they came back in, he came to our table and asked if the guy that left was with us. Our family is a regular at the buffet after church on Sundays. Always good, great selection, wait staff is very attentive, place is super clean and food stays fresh. I recommend the Mongolian BBQ if you want to design your own entree - I prefer really spicy food, and the buffet does not have as much spicy food, so I'll get the Mongolian BBQ with extra hot sauce and then pick several sides from the buffet. Sun King Chinese Restaurant is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. I had salmonella in my chicken and got sick with food poison for weeks. The service is awful, the waitresses don't do their job. The tea is syrupy, and the water is sink water.Not to mention the filthy environment(moldy bathrooms, run down walls, gum on floor, etc.....).
