First of all the costumer services is amazing you, you get greeted at the door from one of the employees, you get recommendations for how to cook and how much to cook for the amount of people. The meat cuts are always fresh and marinated greatly. You can tell the love that is put into the meat. The chicken wings are amazing as well as the chicken tenders. I liked their marinated meats but didn't fall in love as all of the 5-star reviews might suggest. Although my BBQ turned out fine, I had to help the flavors a little bit. My main gripes are that the lule kebab meat is too fatty (around 30%) & not salty enough. The marinated beef kebab is flap meat, and at 8.99/lb., is in top sirloin territory and knocking on filet mignon's door. Anyway, it's a great option if you don't want to marinate meats yourself. The most honest butcher! They have the best tasting, most tender meat ever. The meat is already marinated. Take it home, and make your dinner. What's that? You don't have time to cook? That's ok, they will cook it for you. Sooo convenient! They also have so many wonderful side dishes too. When I said "honest butcher"... I mean very honest and humble. I say this because: I was ordering for a group of men for work. Total of 15 guys. They all love to eat, especially meat! So, I was ordering a total of 21 or 22 pounds of variety meat. The guy tells me that I'm ordering too much meat, and that we will have a lot of left over. He suggested that I only get a pound a person. So, I cut back. Who does that? He could of clearly made a lot more money off of me. I was asking for it. But, he assured me I will have enough. So, I picked up the food, already cooked, nice and warm, and headed back to work. Family run, tiny mom-pop shop, local butcher and middle eastern deli - this place is friggin fantastic. The marinated meats (chicken, lamb, beef, you name it) all delicious. Call ahead or come early and they will throw it on the grill for you. Great for parties, potlucks, or lazy night in. Friendly father/son team, always helpful and welcoming. BE WARNED: The spicy hot wings are really spicy. I'm Thai, so bring it; I can handle the heat. Other friends found it a bit rough to handle. I came to Garni Meat Market to find seasoned chicken lule meat for kabobs at home. The little meat market is a tiny place with barely any room between the meat counter and the refrigerator case behind it. But, Garni seems to have a following. There were quite a few patrons that arrived at Garni soon after I did and we all lined up dutifully to order and pay in that small space. I ordered chicken lule and beef lule and grilled both up for a middle eastern lunch. You could see the onions and garlic speckled in the chicken meat and chili powder, tinging the meat red. It grilled up nicely though a bit salty. It was harder to discern what was in the beef but I liked that even better as it was subtler in flavors. The more popular selections at Garni appear to be the marinated chicken thigh meat and the spicy chicken wings so I'll be sure to try those next time. read more

I love love love this little meat market. Its deceptively simple appearance belies the deliciousness that comes off the grill. A friend of mine got me hooked on their chicken a few years ago and I've been stopping in every time I'm in N.Pasadena ever since. It's a family run business and no matter who ends up helping you at the counter you're going to be well taken care off. I'm a personal fan of the spicy chicken wings and usually get a pound. Call 30 mins ahead and they'll cook them up for you perfectly. Boldly spiced, always juicy, and did I mention spicy? SPICY! Not like "sorta" spicy. Spicy like "you better have grown up sucking on chile peppers to handle these" spicy. If you're not feeling quite that brave, the lemon pepper wings are mild and also delicious. Remember to ask for $2 worth of the cucumber yogurt - it goes great with the pita and will help cool your mouth down. read more

I just happened to find Garni on yelp one day and decided to visit after a last minute bbq was sprung upon me. I was surprised to find that Jonathan Gold had raved about this place and yet it only had 20 something reviews. I am so glad that I decided to try Garni out. The young man at the counter was very nice and patient when trying to help me purchase enough food for 7 people. He told me that I would need at least 5 pounds of meat and he was pretty spot on with his estimate. I purchased some marinated chicken breast, marinated beef, chicken wings, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and two packs of pita. The total came out to just under $40. The chicken was so tender and delicious. The beef was a bit too seasoned when eaten alone, but it was good with the pita. The chicken wings were crazy spicy, but good. The hummus had a good garlic kick to it. I didn't get a chance to try the grape leaves. I am definitely coming back here to pick up some marinated meat the next time we have a bbq. read more

Run, don't walk! What took me so long to discover this place? I don't know, but it's definitely on my list of places to visit again as soon as possible. On my first visit I walked in and, after looking at all of the proteins from which to choose, I just threw up my hands and said I needed advice in selecting what would result in a fabulous lunch. Arsen was behind the counter and came to my rescue, sharing his favorites, discussing other items, and making recommendations. I finally settled on a sampling of the marinated lamb chops (medium rare, please), chicken tenders, and lula kabob, with onions, grilled tomatoes and Anaheim chilis. When the owner walked in and proudly started talking about his homemade yogurt from an Armenian culture, I absolutely had to buy a container (and it, too, turned out to be wonderful!!!). And then I couldn't help but decide it all looked so great that I'd stock up on food for the week, so ordered their hummus (garlic!!! and absolutely delicious) and spinach dip (also totally awesome ). And then I sat and waited the 20 minutes or however long it takes them to cook the food out back. It was well worth it. And the food tasted just as good the next day, and the one after that! Leftover heaven. Want a special Christmas? Let them know a few weeks in advance and order a whole lamb to be prepared for your guests. A very special treat. It's a tiny little meat market with just enough room for a few to saunter in, gawk, choose, and then await preparation of a wonderful meal (if you don't take the marinated items home to cook yourslef). Also gave me suggestions something else. The meats I purchased were beef luleh, lamb chop and chicken thighs. Chicken and chops were the party favorites. Extremely good quality meat at bargain prices! It's a no frills meat market. No fancy stuff here. Just good meat, good service, friendly staff. Great little mom and pop meat market. Has parking right up front. Lots of different marinaded meats- beef, chicken, lamb, pork. The beef is a garlicky marinade. Big cubes of meat with slices of onion. The chicken breast has a yogurt based marinade that has garlic and paprika. Chicken thigh marinade has garlic and paprika. Spicy chicken wings were tiny and spicy. It will be great during ball games with a beer. Super spicy! They also have various dips for pita bread. Next time I will try those and the pork. I heard about Garni Meat Market for a co-worker. She told me that she and her husband had bought meat here while they entertaining friends and they were extremely happy and impressed with the market. This Labor Day weekend my brother came down to hang out in Pasadena with me and I felt that this place was well worth our visit. The market is very small and one can easily drive right by it. As we walked in on Saturday, about 4:45 p.m. a lady walked out and told us we had better hurry because they were almost out of meat. Walking inside I could see she was right. The meat was almost gone!!! So I ordered a pound of their marinade chicken thighs and a pound of pork chops. I also bought some lavash and some homemade baba ganoush. My brother ordered the chicken but he also decided on getting the beef instead of the pork. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I ended up BBQ'ing my meat on Labor Day (Monday) and my brother ended up BBQ'ing his on Sunday at his girlfriends. So how was the meat taste? Great I tell you. The chicken was flavorful, juicy, tender and as for the pork it was just as good. Most of the pork had no bones but some had a little bone attached. The pork, even with the bone, was small. They were kabob size and were easily placed on the skewers, look at my photos. I have to try the beef next because my brother raved about it and said he and his girlfriend enjoyed it a lot as well as the chicken. I highly recommend this market. read more

Excellent little spot to get meat for grilling, Armenian specialties, or a delicious take-out lunch. I think the first time I came in was after seeing my tailor, who is located down the street...was looking for a quick meal so I consulted yelp and found Garni meat market. The owner and a woman who I believe is his wife are friendly, and the place has a "neighborhood business" vibe if that makes sense. They offer bulk raw meats and cooking ingredients, but you can also ask for a plate and he will go back and cook it fresh for you--teke kabob, chicken wings, breast, lule, etc. I've only ever had this, and it's DELICIOUS--comes with pita, hummus, rice, but you can also get baba ghanoush for example. I can't stress how wonderful freshly-cooked meat is, especially when it's obviously quality stuff. Based on my lunch experiences, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in for grilling meat as well. read more

Wonderful and quality meats marinated perfectly for grilling. I got some beef and chicken for a get together this Sunday and the meats were such a hit! Alex would also let you try the different dips and hummus. Those go so well with the grilled meats and pita/lavash. This place is really great. After eyeballing this place on yelp for a while, we decided to finally try it out. We got a pound each of the lemon wings and the spicy wings. The spicy wings weren't really that spicy (we eat a lot of spicy foods, so our tastebuds are trained), but the flavor was on point. Also got some of their spinach yogurt dip and lavash bread, which we finished the next day. We also got some of the marinated beef, and cooked it in a pan since we don't have a grill.
