At least for me, the Gaucho Grill in Pasadena, is the closest location (still 34 miles one way), for this brand name, from my pad in the SFV. I came here for the Dine LA lunch, with some reservation. For one, the reviews. Two, all the selections, in the 3-course menu were basic and nothing new. The dinner menu though, had better choices. Still, I walked in to nice ambiance, well appointed seating and latin music. Before being seated, I inquired if they could serve me the Dine LA Dinner menu ($55), instead of the lunch menu ($35). The server abruptly denied my request, stating the kitchen was only ready for lunch. I asked if I could reason with the manager, because all the Dine LA Dinner items were on the regular lunch menu. Are they going to deny those selections to the general public (who are not participating in Dine LA)? The manager was also firm and refused. I said, it was not a problem if it was so, and I would take the lunch menu. I had to ask, because I have been able to successfully get the dinner menu, at lunch time, at other restaurants. They gave me a comfortable seat in the dining area and the server gave me the general menu and the Dine LA Lunch menu only. Five minutes later, the manager passes by and presents me with both the lunch and dinner Dine LA menus. After this drama, from the $55 dinner menu, I opted for the Prawns and Palms(Appetizer), the Argentine Filet Mignon (Entree) and the Chocolate Bread Pudding (dessert) for my 3-course meal. The complimentary bread arrived at ambient temperature, a small sliced baguette. The Prawns and Palms appetizer arrived soon after. For the life of me, I could hardly find any prawns. I dug, swirled, lifted, parted, the contents and only found 2-3 small cut up pieces of prawns. The rest, easily about 95% were just filler ingredients. The dish was also tasteless. I asked for the manager and explained my disappointment the inadequacy of the dish, especially addressing the lack of prawns. He peeked in and said, inaccurately, that he could see some shrimp. That was the point. Except it was, hardly some shrimp. Mistakes happen. But managers must be upfront and demonstrate, at least an effort, to address the concern, remedy the problem, and satisfy the customer. At that point, it was not worth waiting for the next two courses. I told him I had to leave. Maybe, I should've gone for the lunch menu, but I did not want to eat a burger as my entree, at an Argentinian Steakhouse. Luckily, I had a plan B, here in Pasadena, that salvaged my day and made the long drive here from the SFV, on a 103 degree plus afternoon, worthwhile, albeit, at a different restaurant. read more

Overall great experience having lunch during DineLA The restaurant interior is beautiful and comfortable seating. The food was good particularly the meats. Loved the chorizo board. Loved the Milanese. We ordered the Evita salad to share and it was very good, but I did think it could use more acidic elements and less sweet elements. The crepe was ok. Parking is easy/free in the structure nearby that is covered. There are four locations in Southern California. Making a reservation is easy if needed. I've been here for dinner and another time for happy hour. Both experiences were enjoyable and the food is quite delicious. Food: They have an option called parrillada that helps satisfy a group of people. It comes with a variety of meats with 1 or 2 sides depending on the package you're ordering. My family ordered the ultimate parrillada and it was enough meat for 7 of us. We did have almost 4-5 side dishes but hope that helps you in terms of ordering. I thought the strip and the short rib were pretty tough to chew through. My favorite was the chicken and lamb chops. The chicken was moist and actually a great addition to all the red meat. I absolutely love their calamari. I'm indifferent to calamari, but I would order this one because of the flavoring and how fresh it tasted. Service/Ambiance: The service is great here. All of the servers and bus boys are kind and super attentive to your experience. The ambiance is casual/ smart casual. It doesn't hurt to look nice. We went for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised by the prices and portions! You totally get bang for your buck and the cocktails were delicious. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly although we didn't love the fries it came with (kinda dry). The empanadas were very flavorful and their pastry shell was super yummy and flaky. The filet mignon sliders were delish with really yummy caramelized onions and aioli. And then the garlic cheese bread was garlic cheese bread (hard to go wrong!). Met up with my lovely Sisters B for Happy Hour and a Wednesday night. We got there before the crowd arrived and sat in a booth with a view of the dining room. Our server was delightful and she brought us some bread with chimichurri sauce to dip it in. They have some great deals for Happy Hour, so we ordered a few plates to share. Gaucho Grill was great. Hostess was super nice and congratulated us on about to have a baby. Our servers was Rodrigo and a lady in training - both super nice and helpful. They each had recommendations as it was our first time there. The Entraña was delicious and perfectly cooked. Rodrigo had great wine suggestions as well and even let me try them before locking in what to order. One gripe was that the dessert took a while to come out. Our gelato was halfway melted when it got there. Rodrigo encouraged he send out another one, but I was fine with it and said that wasn't necessary. I appreciate the offer to make it right though. Great for groups, and even better for Argentinean food. I came here on a Sunday with a group of four gals for brunch. This Pasadena location has a beautiful interior, with wood tones throughout the space, and red leather seats that give it that warm and welcoming ambiance. As a group, we ordered (2) appetizers to share: the Albondigas $22.00 and Calamari Marplatense $22.00. I gotta say, their calamari dish here is one of the best I've had in a long time. The batter was perfect, and fried perfectly to give it that crispy/crunchy texture I love, plus, you can still taste the squid. It didn't even need the sauce to be honest! I've never had Albondigas before, but it might become one of my favorite things. They are Lamb & Chorizo Meatballs, with big bold flavors, but my favorite thing was the tomato sauce. I ate a lot of this just to keep eating the tomato sauce! It's very good and a great shareable for the table. I love a good ribeye for its buttery taste and tenderness so that's what I got! I got for myself their Ojo de Bife $44.00 and it was a great call. The steaks had that perfect wood-fire smokey taste, and it tasted even better seeing the live fire in the kitchen haha! The chefs can definitely put on a great show with their open kitchen concept. I got to choose 1 side with my steak so I chose the Gaucho Veggies. They do not skimp on the veggies, my bowl was packed with potatoes, zuchinni, mushrooms, and more. So generous! If you're worried about parking like I am most of the time, don't be! When you past Gaucho's on Lake Ave, just keep going down to pass the Mattress Firm store and turn into the Macy's & Shops parking lot on S Hudson Ave. There is plenty of parking and free, too, for 3 hours I believe. Plenty of time to enjoy a good meal. My girl friends got their Prime Picanha $41.00, Steak and Egg $26.00, and a salad, for their entree, and we all felt like we had a big feast and got lots of leftovers to take home! We celebrated my husband's birthday on a Friday night, our wonderful servers are Miguel and Rodrigo. We started on calamari and shared short rib empanada as our appetizers. The birthday celebrant ordered his drink of choice Old Fashioned and I had the Red sangria, both of them were delicious as well as the appetizers. We shared their tomahawk ribeye steak with sweet corn pudding and grilled veggies as our choice for side dishes. Overall, everything was perfect and unforgettable. We enjoyed every bit of our time spent from the moment we entered and greeted by lovely smiles, escorted to our table, wonderful service from Rodrigo going through the menu and Miguel serving our delicious food. We ended our superb dinner with a nice birthday flan for the birthday boy and shared a panna cotta ice cream vanilla and chocolate flavors. Thank you very much for an amazing birthday dinner date. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm. It's a 5 minute walk from work so I able to enjoy at least about a hour of the happiness. On my recent visit I tried their Filet Mignon Sliders $6 with Truffle fries $3. My sliders came with mini brioche buns with caramelized onions, aioli, blue cheese and arugula. The sliders were great as well as my fries. While I was their I enjoyed two Lagunitas IPA beers bringing my grad total to a little over $20 after taxes. read more

The service was great at the beginning until the end. Food was delicious except for the Paella. There were tons of mussels, squid, 2huge prawns, medium size shrimp, and chorizo. There were a total of 6 mussels that didn't open, I threw that out. However, the most disappointing was the cracked mussels shells that were varied in sizes.
