Garra Restaurante is located at the Paseo Chapultepec, a dynamic and vibrant restaurant destination, in Tijuana. The Mexican establishment has elegant and striking decor, dim lighting, romantic ambiance and well selected music in the background. For starters, I chose the Tuna Tataki (Tuna loin with a touch of a grill, fermented senfood sauce, sesame oil, yuzu, wacame seaweed and shiitake mushrooms). A superb dish, well presented with a burst of textures and flavors. If anything, there was too much lime in the preparation. For the main, I ordered the Pastor-style Catch of the day (Grilled grouper pastor style, pineapple, onion and cilantro relish, pineapple foam with habanero and lime puree). Another spectacular presentation.
The fish filet portion was thick, moist, flaky, at the right temperature and very tasty. All the other additions to the plate (surrounding the fish), were strong on lime (again). I felt this made the offering too acidic, on the whole. For the side, it was their Truffled Potatoes. Essentially, thinly cut French fries, tossed tableside with olive oil, beef jus and Parmesan. Nicely done. Chips and the 3 salsas, with different hotness were good table beginners. There were ample staff that provided undivided and exceptional service. I was there late and was thankful that the kitchen closed only at 11 pm with the restaurant shutting at midnight. read more
