What a wonderful surprise to walk into a store where you are greeted warmly and wearing a mask is your choice, and your choice alone! We made the drive over to Greeley from Loveland for an event and since I was in the market for a new pair of court shoes we did a search to find out what our "small town" options were in regard to sporting goods. This store has definitely earned my business and I recommend them very highly!!! Upon entering we were greeted; stating that I was in looking for court shoes we were pointed in the right direction and a young lady came over immediately to help me. The small town business has earned my business! I have been in here four times over the years to look at firearms and three out of those four time was treated rudely. The only time I was treated with respect was when there was some woman working back there. Yesterday I went in just to look but have been known to make large purchases that way. Long story short, they had a gun I wanted, I am not a noob and have specific guns on my radar, this was one of them. Even though there were like 4 people in the entire store and I was the only person in the firearms area the guy just walked away even though I was clearly trying to get his attention. Who leaves someone unattended in the firearms area? I guess they are doing fine and don't need my business. That's fine, it was a win win, I quickly left and went down the street and gave it to another business. They were a pleasure to work with and $100 bucks cheaper anyway. So if you want to pay too much and be treated rudely better go to Garretson's! read more

While I finished a discussion in the car, they basically made a dash to the door put up this sign when there was only 3 inches of snow at 6pm. It was still daylight. Roads were just slightly slow. A associate rented skis from Garrertsons. I returned them this morning for them. There was a sign on the door saying masks are not required. No staff and only a few customers were wearing masks. The parking lot was full and probably 30 people in their store. I find that odd as the state requires masks in public. I realize the true patriots Garrertsons must be. Obviously they have not seen a family member die due of covid. We generally rent skis there a few time a year and some sports equipment since they were local. l cannot in good conscience go back in a store that has no regard for the public health. This type of behavior will continue to feed the pandemic. read more

Extremely dissatisfied with my visit. The elder woman with glasses and gray short hair with a pixie cut was extremely rude and wasn't willing to help. Had an extremely awful vibe from her the minute I walked in. For being a somewhat popular small business in greeley you would hope and think they would be more welcoming but that was not the case. Don't know if it was a personal thing due to my ethnicity but it was extremely awful feeling that way. I felt very judged and will never step foot in again. I am disappointed. Do better. If this woman is the owner be better. Because I would hope no other colored person would feel this way. As someone with a small business you should respect and care for every single one of your costumers because we pay your bills! I have had nothing but bad experiences at Garretson's. They continually (multiple years in a row) manage to screw up the uniforms they order for my son's local baseball team. There are never apologies, only excuses. To make matters worse I ordered a shirt for myself. When the orders were ready I got a call saying the color I wanted wasn't available, no biggie. I choose a different color and they say I'll be notified when it's ready. Fast forward 4 months I've heard nothing so I called. After talking to 3 different people I get told they will pull my order and make it on the next business day! So after the phone call to pick a new color they did nothing with my order. If I hadn't called in to inquire, they would never have done anythingother than gladly take my money way back at the time I ordered. Some might see this as just an oversight, but I've had nothing but bad experiences time after time. If I ever get my shirt I will never patronize this place again, I advise you to steer clear too! read more

I know there seems to be mixed reviews on Yelp with this spot. Even though I was unsure from the reviews, I wanted to see firsthand and I am seriously grateful I did! Right when I walked in the door I was greeted by a super warm welcome and all I had to do was say "ankle braces" and the lady from behind the counter pointed me in a direction while following me from behind the counter to make sure if I had any questions they'd be answered efficiently and effectively so I got the right kind of brace for my situation. I cannot speak enough volumes in this review how appreciative I am for the help I received this evening! If you are on the fence like I was go check it out for yourself because this is a local spot that is on top of quality customer service! I was having a hard time locating a specific Wilson baseball glove for my son. No one local to me in southern Weld County had it in stock or even carried it to order. I was going to order online from Wilson.com when a friend recommended Garretson's. I had not heard of them because Greeley is a bit of a drive for us. My son and I drove up after school. They had the exact glove he wanted. They beat the price online and they steamed the glove for a little extra to get it broken for my son to use in summer ball starting next week. Some things that stood out to me as a customer and a dad about Garretson's. The staff was very nice from a greeting when we walked in and wishing a good afternoon when we left. They took the time to listen to our needs and ask questions. After our purchase, they continued to be attentive to us as we browsed their large selection making sure all our questions were answered. Todd, one of the owners, steamed by son's glove. They had a great conversation about baseball and other things. I am impressed when adults focus on a young person who is the recipient of the goods they are selling not just the adult who paid for it. I know it makes my son feel important. My son and I were both impressed by the large inventories in each department but also the uniqueness of several items we had not seen other places. We will trek the 30 plus miles past many big box stores to return to Garretson's for our next sporting good purchase. read more

Have been a local and know this to be one Greeleys signature locally owned and operated businesses and this review is long overdue. Long story short, like other reviews below citing poor levels of help or customer focus myself and my family members have been treated poorly by the regular operators of this establishment. There isn't a sense of helpfulness I have ever experienced after repeatedly trying to support a local company. Smaller local sport shops like GoJo's get it right and I would encourage people to try to go there before this establishment. I only go here when forced to because of district agreements on team apparel. One bad experience is one thing but repeated experiences over the span of years speaks loudly to the lack of care here. read more

This post is only about the old gentleman, with glasses, behind the gun counter. I am unfamiliar with firearms and wanted to get some guidance on what to get for home defense. I told him I was unfamiliar with fire arms and asked what a good caliber would be to stop an intruder but not go through the intruder and through a wall into my children's room. " Well that depends on which one you get." was his answer. Asked him to explain what he meant by that. He told me that it depends on the round itself and caliber too, but wouldn't explain anymore than that. Wouldn't explain himself at all and acted like he was busy or had much better things to do with his time and there was no one else shopping in the store! I agree with the other review. I had money in hand and ready to buy a weapon. Todd Garretson is a personal friend. But the guy running the gun department was such a turd and nasty that I immediately left and made my several hundred dollar purchase elsewhere. Many of my friends have mentioned the same thing and will never go back. The rest of the store and staff is OK which is why I gave it an additional star but I have a bad taste in my mouth from the idiot behind the gun counter. read more

I have been going to Garretsons for years, and am really puzzled by some of the reviews here. I have never had anything less than outstanding customer service, regardless of what I was looking to purchase. From Zeke and Todd right down to the clerks at the counter, they have always been friendly and very helpful, polite and willing to answer your questions fully and completely, and in a manner that you can understand, regardless of your skill or expertise level. From having firearms purchased on-line and delivered to their store, to walking in not really sure of what I wanted, to looking for a special or specific item for my grand-kids team sports to shopping for gifts, they have always delivered on my needs. I think people need to understand that this is a family-run business, and not a chain store, and they put their employees first. They have certain hours and days they will not be open and they close during bad weather to keep their employees safe. No different than Hobby Lobby or any other family-run business. The "old guy at the gun counter" has a wealth of knowledge that is unsurpassed and is quite frequently running that department by himself.....processing background checks, answering phones, stocking, sales, and everything else.If you want 'in and out' service, go to Big 5. Go to Cabelas, Go to Scheels. These places have dozens of employees that are more than willing to take your money and send you out the door. If you want personal service from someone who remembers your name when you walk in, is a family owned and run small business, and had deep community roots, you can't beat Garretsons. read more

Great customer service and a fairly large selection for a family owned business. I was able to rent brand new skis and purchase my hat, gloves, face mask and base layers all in the same place. Took only about 10 min to get fitted for skis! Overall great experience. read more
