For one person, the small is a good amount of popcorn to snack on as you walk around the city for the day. After a while (hours or the day after) the oils will start to harden so I suggest eating it in a timely manner. I'm more of a salty person when it comes to popcorn so I ordered a mix of Buffalo ranch and cheesy popcorn. It was hard to tell the difference between cheesy and Buffalo since they're the same color so it was a good surprise with each bite. The Buffalo isn't spicy but you do feel like you're biting into a Buffalo chicken tender. The ranch has a perfect amount of ranch flavor. I probably would've tried to mix one more flavor in there. Although I can't eat a whole bag of sweet popcorn, I do think a contrast of sweet caramel here and there would've been a great touch. One suggestion to cut down on waste would be to offer plastic bags rather than including them with each order. I would've been okay with just the brown paper bag. read more

Your nose will lead you to this small store which is located right off of Michigan Avenue. At times, just plan to stand in line, however, the line does go relatively fast. The store is well planned out with ropes so just follow the line to the ordering counter. If you arrive at the right time, there could be some samples to try. Such a cool place! I am staying at a place across the street and every time I come here I also make sure to get a bag for everyone who is also visiting chicago with me. There is a nice and short menu and they are fast getting out orders. It is a great deal as well. Since they are so busy they are constantly making fresh product and you will never get anything old. They also have a security guard, which makes me think their popcorn is so good they gotta have it locked down. You can't go to Chicago without ensuring you don't at least pick up a bag of Garrett signature Chicago style popcorn. Now in recent years the Costco variety of this "Chicago mix" has become so popular that you cannot go to a house party without getting into a fight with someone over ensuring you get your fair shake of the bag. The location just off of Michigan Ave was slammed at open so we continued on our way and came back later in the day to get some 'walking around' popcorn. Never could figure out why there's so much hype over this popcorn. Anyhow a friend in the burbs asked me to bring some so I placed an order online at 10am one morning for a 5pm pickup. They usually close at 8, but a little later on Fridays and Saturdays, and earlier on Sundays. As they near closing, their selection starts narrowing. Usually at the end of the day they just have cheese and caramel left. The Garrett mix, cheese and caramel, is definitely a favorite. I personally like cheese popcorn more, but having a caramel piece in between here and there keeps it from feeling overwhelming. The employees here are always nice.
