It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review, but unfortunately, I wish I would have checked the reviews here (instead of trusting those on G00gle) before going to Garrin's Automotive. I had one primary issue, but also mentioned two more minor things just for the advisor's awareness (since I thought they may be related). I was totally shocked when he charged me three separate diagnostic fees!In addition, I was told he couldn't give me a breakdown of the different charges. I was also told the evaluation would be done by a certain date, but it wasn't done until a day and a half later after stopping by and calling to check the status. Their labor rate isn't listed, so be sure to ask and be extremely clear about exactly what you want if you choose to go here. Although each shop can choose their own rates and how many labor hours to charge, when I called around after the fact, they were definitely on the high end. Thankfully the work hasn't had any issues, and they seem to have a good warranty... although I hope I don't need to go back there as my impression was that the advisor was indifferent whether I was a customer or not. read more

Charged me $150 diagnostic fee, and had the nerve to quote me $1500 for what should have been maximum 5 hours labor and $175 part (do they know even know customers can easily look this up online??). Same thing as the other reviews. Came in to get AC fixed. Said it would cost $350, called 2 hours later and said the whole pump needed to be replaced. Said it would cost $1,900. I said no and he seemed surprised I didn't want the repair. Price went from $350 to $1,900!! I'd rather be stuck in a hot car than not be able to pay rent. Do not come here. read more

My muffler rusted out and broke off of the main pipe. Called them to see if they can weld it together and what would be the price. I got a quote of around $125. I took my car to them. After a few hours they tell me it is not repairable and I need a new muffler which would be $625 for parts and labor. I call around and find a place that will do the same thing for MUCH cheaper. I go to pick up my car from Garrin's and they charge me for a half hour of "diagnostic work" which was $100. I was not told about any charge when i dropped it off for them to "take a look at it". Now question! How does the actual repair job estimate was $125, but 30 minutes of "diagnostics" is $100. I asked: ":you charge $200/hr?" he said: "yes"... You charge $200 an hour? Are you serious? Are you an oral surgeon? Bottom line: - No clear communication at the time of drop off for "diagnistics" charges. - Dishonest about their hourly rate at the time of pick up. - Overcharging for nothing Go somewhere else! read more

Very, very frustrated with Garrins automotive. Felt very taken advantage of and extremely overcharged. I went in a couple weeks ago with a check engine light issue. I told them what the issue was and that it had already been diagnosed multiple times. They went ahead and diagnosed it anyway. The part itself was less than $100. After having my truck for 9 hours (well over the estimated time of 2 hours) I was charged over $800. That's not even the worst part. A couple days later I took the truck back because the check engine light came on again. Something completely unrelated happened. "Total transmission failure" and they're now asking $6k-$9k. Unbelievable. It's hard for me to believe that this was not due to them after the first incident. I've never had a single issue with his truck. I'm now getting my truck towed elsewhere. Will not give these guys my business ever again. read more

Terrible experience, they destroyed my gas cap, my front bumper and destroyed the organization from the engine they swapped out. Took over 3 months for them to finish just for my truck to come out worse before it got there, do not recommend this place for anyone looking for mechanical help. read more

Would give negative stars if I could. Horrible customer service. DON'T GO HERE! If you want the brief summary without reading everything below, they gladly took ~$500 and fixed NOTHING! Totally shady and dishonest! Read the other reviews and you will see how shady this company is (especially the Yelp reviews). They took my car in because the AC wasn't working. Took them 2 1/2 days to tell me that it needed freon but that there was no other issue. Charged me just under $500 dollars for the freon. Two days later the AC stopped working (exact same symptoms), they then magically found that there was a leak in a hose (somehow missed that the first time) and that it would be another $800 to fix. $1200 dollars to fix a hose and add some freon--not some actual issue like the AC compressor, can't imagine what they would charge for that. When I asked (very kindly) if they could give me a discount or write-off any of the $500 I spent (money they gladly took without fixing ANYTHING AT ALL!), their customer service-inept receptionist, Clint, condescendingly said "cars are expensive, can't do anything for ya". When I asked to speak to the owner, Garrin, Clint told me he was "at lunch" and when I said I'd call later he said very sarcastically "good luck". When I would call to talk to the owner, Clint would "put me through" to him. Not surprisingly, they literally let my phone call ring and ring (I kept it ringing for over 25 minutes once). Obviously I don't except them to ever return my call. Their invoice says "2 year 24k mile warranty on ALL repairs"--which is either a straight lie or their sneaky loophole: "if we don't catch or actually repair anything, then we get to keep your money." If a doctor misdiagnoses a patient and fixes NOTHING, they would NEVER just say "too bad" and keep the money. I'm likely going to pursue small claims court. For me it's not the money, but the principle ... I regularly give discounts and write-off portions of my clients' bills, not because of sub-par work (which I've never been accused of), but because of how much people are struggling in today's economy. I remember getting mad as a kid when the vending machine "ate" my 50 cents without vending the soda. Garrin's Automotive will "eat" your $500 without fixing A THING! Should have just lit the $500 with a match--at least that would have been fun, and my car wouldn't have been confiscated for days! read more

We didn't choose Garrin's, just happened to be the nearest automotive shop to where our car broke down, so it was towed there one week ago. They have been amazing every since! Incredibly professional, communicated with us every step of the way (we never had to call them because they always called us), took the time to explain everything clearly and answer any questions. The kicker is they told us that the biggest problem for our car was caused by something that the manufacturer would repair or replace for free. Garrin's could have just told us what needed to be done and billed us for it. Instead, we're having it towed to the manufacturer's shop. Even though we live 30 minutes away, if I can get my car to Garrin's for future repairs, I will! read more

My car was overheating and had a loud clanking sound. Took it to Garrin directly asking to fix those issues. Picked up car at closing time, part way home it overheated. They were closed so broght it back next day. After paying over $1300 (first time) he wanted me to pay another $1500 to fix the issue. Took it to another shop who fixed the problem for just under $500. read more

I had these guys look at an oil leak in my car. They gave me an estimate, which seemed high, so I decided to take it to another mechanic. Garrin's charged me over $100 just for the diagnosis! The other mechanic gave me a quote for HALF of what Garrin's quoted-- in both cost and length of time the repair would take. The people at Garrin's were nice enough, but I felt ripped off. I was very happy with the service! They were very friendly. I was there for an oil change and emissions. During the oil change, and before doing so, they let me know what things needed to be changed, like oil filters. They told me what the cost would be and if it could wait or not. The waiting room was very clean and comfortable. They had a great area for kids to play. I've got my next oil change already scheduled! read more

Unfortunately, We were overcharged for our service we received. We were referred to Garrin's since they specialize in hybrid cars by our usual mechanic. The mechanic was able to charge the battery, run a diagnostic,tested the battery and was concerned we may have an electrical issue that killed the starter battery in such a short time, since it was only 6 months old. We had the car towed to Garrin's, but were told the battery doesn't hold enough of a charge to run a diagnostic on it and needed to replace the battery before they could even run a diagnostic. With limited options and concerns for major issues, we agreed to do this, with plans to return the 6 month old battery to the manufacturer since it was still under warranty. After the diagnostic, there were no immediate issues found and were told it was simply the battery needed replacing and given a list of some other repairs the car might need, none being electrical. When turning in the old "dead" battery today we were told the battery was fine and able to hold a charge so they were unable to refund us any money, and that the car most likely is having an outstanding electrical issue and this new battery will probably only last us another 6 months. Before picking up the car we called several Toyota dealerships and were quoted a much cheaper price for a battery/battery change and when we brought this up we were told the dealership probably quoted us the price on the wrong battery. All in all we paid $650 for a new battery, labor, diagnostic, and a core to transport the old battery. The staff was friendly but it doesn't make up for the 650$ price that we had previously paid only $270 for the same service with a different mechanic. read more

I brought by a used car I was test driving to ask Garrin to look at it. He asked me if I could come back in the morning, since they were about to close. I told him I had to work in the morning, so he came out in to the parking lot. He told me what to look for (make the sure the VIN matches on the stickers on each door, the hood, the trunk, etc.). He showed me right then and there that the used car had had the hood and trunk replaced. Then he showed me the crumpled metal under the liner in the trunk. Garrin was awesome! He knows a lot about cars and was able to explain everything to me in a way that someone who knows nothing about cars could understand it. I really felt that I could trust what he said. I did not feel that he was ripping me off. In fact, Garrin gave me the cheapest price to fix my radiator than any other company I went to. He also explained much more about what was wrong with my car than other places. Garrin was also kind enough to keep his shop open longer than the close time in order to give me time to get there from work both when I dropped it off and when I picked it up. I was very impressed. Garrin appears to love life and love having a conversation with people. I would trust him with any of my car needs. On a trip from Dallas, TX to see family in Lehi, UT, our air conditioning went out in our car on day one of a two day car trip. On arriving in Lehi, UT, scheduling a time to get the car fixed was difficult. Dealers and other repair shops were overbooked with repairs or would not return my calls. Garrin's Automotive took us in right away. We were able to drop our car off in the opening hour of business and the car was ready for pick up at the end of the day. The AC compressor and an engine mount was replaced in that time. The service was fast and friendly. The price of service was definitely matched by the service repairs needed in the time that it was needed. We had a much appreciated ride back home to Dallas with a working air conditioner when the vacation was over. read more

My Toyota hybrid was over heating and shaking when it would transition from battery to fuel. Took it to Garrin. Clean building, kind man, and there was a certificate on the wall that his mechanic was Toyota hybrid certified. My husband was out of town so they posted their diagnostic finding online for him to see which was great. Cost us $1500. Picked up my car at closing time. As soon as I turned my car on it shook, but not as bad as before. Thought it needed some time to kick in so I took it home. Less than 24 hours later the shaking was worse and it was Friday night. By Sunday evening it was over heating AGAIN. Took it back in Monday morning and Garrin mention he suspected it was the gasket but it didn't show up when they ran their diagnostic. He said it would take another $1700 to fix it. We found another shop in Provo that gave us a different option to replacing it. It cost us over $400 for that. It started over heating again so my husband took it back to the auto shop in Provo. They looked at it and said it was a bad hose, one that Garrin had replaced. Hubby took it back to Garrin who replaced it under warranty. A month later my car is still running great. While Garrin is a nice man, and his building is clean. I would not and did not go back to him for my other car. The hybrid certified certificate mechanic is overrated and in my case still misdiagnosed my car. If you have an older car and can deal with not using the dealer manufactured parts, I would take it elsewhere. The price I had paid would have been worth it if my car was fixed by Garrin, but it wasn't so it wasn't worth it. read more

I brought my car in to have the gas tank replaced. After paying the almost $1000 to have it replaced, I drove away only to hear a terrible rattling sound. I went back and was that it was some other damage to the undercarriage of the car. After having the other damage fixed by an auto body shop, the horrible rattling remained. When I returned to Garrins, he finally found what was wrong with it and fixed it. The next problem (which still persists), was that if I fill the tank completely full, the car jerks and cuts out frequently until it is down to about 3/4 of the way full. I went back TWO MORE TIMES to ask them to look at it and fix the problem. The first time they took it back and said they couldn't see anything wrong with it. When the problem was not resolved (and this has been months), I returned and was told that they couldn't do anything because there was "nothing wrong" with it.
