Tasty fish & chips shop on Hastings between Nanaimo and Renfrew. This location used to be Red Wagon (which is now located several blocks W of here on Hastings). Parking is available on the side streets. Interior is old school fishing themed. Random fishing gear and posters on the wall. Nice rustic feel. Guy behind the counter was friendly and chatty. He mentioned that this is their first physical restaurant. The business originally started in Squamish as a food truck, which still makes the rounds locally. The fish and chips are pretty good, but are rather greasy. There was a puddle when I was done. Batter is nice and fluffy. Fish pieces were fresh and hot. Served with 2 lemon slices, a bit of coleslaw, and a dish of tartar sauce. Other than the excessive grease, this place hits the spot. Great for getting one's fish & chips fix. Recommended.

Came early for dinner on a weeknight. We were seated immediately…read more The waiter seemed a bit down and the energy was low and not super inviting. Regardless, he was attentive. We ordered plum sake, salmon oshi, veggie okonomiyaki, wild ramp ice cream. There is a note on the menu that the okonomiyaki would take 30 mins to prepare. This was accurate for us. The plum sake was refreshing and tasted like a spiked blend of apple/plum/grape juice. The salmon oshi was delicious. The salmon melted in my mouth, and everything was balanced and flavored pretty perfectly to have a satisfying bite each time. I would happily order this again. The okonomiyaki was just okay for us. There was some variation in texture with the different veggies in the pancake, and the plant based mayo was surprisingly good. The flavor of the pancake though was pretty mellow and one-note throughout. After a few bites it wasn't as fun to eat, and the dish itself was pretty heavy. Would be better as a dish to share with a few others. I was excited about the icecream flavors. The strangest flavor we found was the wild ramp ice cream. The flavor is sweet and creamy with a distinct taste of leek. It actually wasn't bad, but definitely threw my brain for a loop trying to make sense of what I was eating. The serving size was just right for 2 to split. Overall, a solid dining spot with thoughtful plating. The interior is clean, feels upscale, and has big windows at the front that open when it's nice out. Would come again to try some of their other dishes!

The menu seems to have shrunken since then with less options for sushi rolls and is more streamlined to basic sushi, nigiris, and rolls. My boyfriend and I walked in on a Sunday and managed to get sat at the bar seating within an hour of waiting. The restaurant is cozy and there is limited seating so reservations are probably preferred. Since we weren't super hungry, we opted to share a few items and went with staples such as the salmon oshi, bluefin tuna nigiri, and the wagyu udon noodle soup. The bluefin was amazing and melted in my mouth - a close contender considering I was not in Japan. Salmon oshi was standard - I think the sauce on top was a nice change to the usual slices of jalapeño. What really amazed me was the noodle soup. The noodles were hand made and the broth was savoury, deep, and flavourful. We both wanted to slurp every last drop of soup up because it could not be wasted! I also liked the good variety of toppings and would definitely return to have this noodle soup again. If I recall correctly, Kishimoto has always been on the higher end of the price scale but you will definitely receive what you paid for in quality, service, and deliciousness.

The restaurant is located on the…read moreground floor of the Seaside Hotel in North Vancouver and has two entrances - one from the street and another through the hotel. My boyfriend and I were in a seafood mood and ordered the following: Seafood Tower: A showstopper. Beautifully presented, overflowing with fresh oysters, chilled prawns, lobster rolls, caviche, and tuna tartar. Everything tasted fresh and ocean-sweet but the lobster rolls buns were getting wet and soggy from the plate to ice condensation - an oversight on presentation logistics. Wagyu Carpaccio: Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The wagyu was sliced paper thin and had that rich, buttery texture you hope for. The shaved truffle garnishe added just enough flavour without overshadowing the beef. Served with a few pieces of sourdough bread, it was one of my favourites. Roasted Chicken: I know--ordering chicken at a seafood-forward spot felt risky, but it ended up being one of the surprise standouts. Perfectly roasted with crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat. It was served with a zesty sauce and roasted vegetables and really homey and tasty. Scallops Risotto: Creamy, aromatic, and cooked to that ideal al dente bite. The scallops were seared beautifully--golden on the outside and tender inside. Service was warm and attentive, and the coastal-chic atmosphere made the whole experience feel relaxed but still special. If you're anywhere near the area, Seaside Provisions is worth a visit especially since they have a Happy Hour.

Also tried the chocolate dessert , it was a kind of rich chocolate mousse with berry sauce and a shell of hardened chocolate. Very good but a little pricy for what it is.

Was seated front row to all the action. Watched as the employees shucked the oysters at the oyster bar while enjoying my delicious meal. The ambiance is loud, fun, and open. Service was friendly and helpful. My water was refilled often and the men working the oyster bar had great communication. I ordered the Manila clams and many oysters. Delicious. Amazing. Everything I wanted and blew me away. Presentation was immaculate and taste was phenomenal. Incredible meal that left me smiling the rest of the day. Filling and sooo so delicious. I highly recommend Rodney's and will definitely return when in Vancouver!

Since the host ordered everything I don't quite remember everything we got. What we had was generally good, but also I thought to myself that each item was quite small, and hard to share evenly among the 7 people there. I remember looking at the menu after and thought to myself that it was quite expensive for very small portions. A number of guests were disappointed the restaurant only served beer and wine, and couldn't mix drinks. Service was good enough - friendly and interactive but nothing outstanding. I didn't pay for this meal, so it was fine. But I don't think I would be rushing back because it's quite expensive for small portions.
