Still trying to find the charm of this place and what they're known for... I've been a few times now and service and food is always average. Breakfasts (eggs and such, haven't tried pancakes) are nothing special. Fresh half & half was appreciated, which they have. Stopped in recently and tried a panini and the lettuce wraps. Panini was very good. Fries that came with it were wet with grease... we didn't finish them. I feel like that's an oil temp issue but I'm no expert. Lettuce wraps sounded great on the menu but were served with dry flavorless chicken. Bland even with toppings provided. Didn't finish that dish either. The protein in lettuce wraps is supposed to be popping with flavor that shines through the lettuce and toppings. Not the case. I'll read through other reviews and try to find some gems. I love greasy spoons like this and I'm sure I'm just missing something. They have a large outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. Perhaps burgers and beers are in order. read more

Gary's is a great little spot in the area. The inside is pretty simple, but the food is decent and service is usually pretty fast. I've been here a few times throughout the years, and I will always get the wings to start. I tried the crab melt and it was pretty good as well, I'd definitely get it again. My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time today. We went for breakfast. The restaurant is located in a strip mall in Severna Park, Maryland. It is very clean and bright a unique decor! When we arrive, we were greeted quickly and told to sit wherever we would like. Within moments, our waitress, Shannon, was over to take our drink order. My husband ordered the all American skillet. It's packed with every kind of breakfast meat you could imagine and he said it was delicious. I ordered the very fresh toast. It's French toast coated in Cap'n Crunch cereal, served with a side of berry compote. When I ordered, I asked was large or if I might need to order size and she explained it very hard and it should be plenty. She was right it was very good. They're very crunchy coating on the outside, but saw and yummy French toast texture on the inside. Our waitress, Shannon, was awesome. She always magically appeared with coffee, refills, or to bring napkins and stuff like that. We never had to look for her. She kept an eye on our table, but without constantly interrupting us. Great business owned and run by Eddie from NY. Garry is gone. Lol. Imaginative sandwiches, many of which have a New York flare, which I love Entrees that are nicely Sized and delicious. Their staff works together like a well oiled machine and you never feel like you have to call anybody because they see what you want when walking by. Service here was wonderful! Gary was training a server and came right up to us and told us he would be training her. New server was kind and quick. Ambiance was a small diner w home town vibes. Made me feel welcome w my two kids. The food was good. We really liked the park wings! Well cooked, nice and crispy and the sauce was good. The bathroom has things that told me they value a woman's experience such as automatic sanitary disposal, baby changing table, and full length mirror. The only thing giving my experience any stars was the waitress being nice and attentive. The food was absolutely zero stars. We had brunch/breakfast it was all barely edible unseasoned and an absolute struggle to get through eating. When we went to use the salt it wasn't working so we took the lid off to discover it was completely rusted the holes were rusted there was rust in the salt and all over the bottle so even trying to season the food was impossible. The restaurant feels like it's in an absolute state of disrepair and so dirty. I have lived in the area for approximately five years and finally stopped in to try Garry's Grill. I have been trying my best lately to try new places and not repeat going to the same few restaurants over and over again. I placed my order and paid online which was simple. I initially chose that I wanted curbside takeout but upon arrival I opted to go inside and grab my order. There was a hostess outside who directed me indoors to pick up my order. The hostess inside greeted me immediately with a friendly smile. I provided my name and she retrieved my order from a nearby table. It appeared they had several to go orders ready for pickup. I ordered the Vic Chopped Salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette dressing and the kids meatloaf meal with gravy. The meatloaf came with French fries. I really enjoyed the meatloaf and thought the gravy was tasty. There were a couple options for side upgrades, but none I was interested in. Although I initially did not want fries, I ended up eating most of them and they were super good dipped in the gravy. The salad wasn't bad at all. I think it would have been better if I added a protein to it but I wasn't feeling that today. All of my food was delicious and the service was great. The only complaint I have is that they did not provide plastic silverware. I initially was going to eat my food in the car on the go but ended up having to go to the office. I do not recall silverware even being an option during the ordering process. I would definitely return and give some more of their items a try! read more

I have worked at several restaurants and have never seen behavior that rude before. This was a new spot to us and we are so happy we found it! We were greeted and seated quickly. Our waitress, Destiny, was soooo enjoyable! But the service didn't stop with just Destiny - we were very well taken care of by any employee who passed our table. If they saw we needed a refill, napkins, plates cleared, they took care of us without us asking. The gentleman who brought our food was also personable and kind. Everyone truly seems to enjoy working here and it showed by the excellent service they provided to us. I believe we were taken care of by at least 5-6 employees in various capacities and every single interaction was top notch. The food was equally as good!!! I had the Chicken Chesapeake. It was so hot and fresh!! I have never eaten asparagus in my life and I ate almost the full portion they gave to me. :) Generous portions of crab and shrimp with the chicken, which was very flavorful. A different waitress stopped and asked if we'd like dessert. We were undecided on what to choose and she went to the case and pointed out each item and described it to us. My boyfriend had already been back within the same week but without me (haha!). He said his second meal and experience was again fantastic. He was very complimentary of the meatloaf. Cute local place! Great salads and dressings. One of our faves is the salad with chicken salad on it and the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I love that Garry's includes a small muffin on the side instead of the usual of bread. Their wings are fantastic but recommend ordering in the restaurant for optimal experience. (This review is from a visit in May of 2021) My mom, elderly friend, and I dined here for lunch around 11am in May. We were seated immediately. Our friend has a walker, so we were able to sit at a half booth half table for ample room. There only one other half booth half table in the restaurant. The rest of the seating are booths or a couple of seats at the bar top right where the kitchen is. My mom and friend ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese sandwich (provolone, cheddar, applewood bacon, tomatoes, honey mustard on wheat bread). My mom got onion rings as a side, while my friend opted for the pasta salad. I ordered the Boursin Chicken Quesadilla from the appetizer menu (homemade boursin cheese, grilled chicken, mozzarella, spinach tortilla, pico de gallo, sour cream) and a side of pasta salad. Their pasta salad is my favorite! It's delicious. The quesadilla was really good. The boursin cheese paired perfectly. The portion of the quesadilla was huge for an appetizer. I would certainly order it again. My mom and friend loved their grilled cheeses. The bread was toasted perfectly. My mom enjoyed the onion rings and the dipping sauce it came with. It took about 20 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered, so that wasn't too bad. The server forgot my side of pasta salad and I had to wait another 5 minutes for that. Took 20 minutes since being seated for us to have to flag down a server to finally take our initial drink order. Our main waitress ignored us all night, yet had no issues tending to the recognizable "regulars" with great care. (Read as: the tables to our immediately left and right.) We had to flag down other waiters/waitresses/the front host in order to be served. Food was definitely NOT the issue. Everything came out in record time, once our orders were actually taken. I ordered the special, which was a pork belly panini with one side. I choose the special, which was cheesesteak soup. The pork belly panini was cook perfectly between the pork belly and applewood smoked bacon. The cheesesteak soup is a cheese soup base with real chunks of steak and croutons. Been living nearby for over a year and never tried Garry's, decided to stop by and give them a try... The burger was very good with all the fixings that I requested but the tater tots were fantastic! They were crispy on the outside...crunchy and the inside was piping hot. My wife ordered the Apple & Brie, which she totally enjoyed but her Sweet Potato Fries were out of this world, the best she has ever had. I've tried to love Garry's a few times, but always leave unimpressed and wishing we had gone to another local spot to eat. The place really needs a deep clean. It's very dark and dated (even with the recent band aid "updates") The waitstaff is hit or miss. Our most recent server was pregnant and seemed miserable to be there. The food is so so. Very US Foods/Sysco. I would rather pay a couple more dollars for a higher quality product. Recently had the meatloaf (extremely over cooked), the saddest looking steak ums quality cheesesteak, a burger that of course came out well done rather than the medium and the kids chicken tender's. Kudos for hand breading the tenders but they really have no flavor, and the honey mustard was awful. We all swapped regular fries for the sweet potato fries, which we later saw on the bill was a 3.99 additional up charge each -- wayyy too much. Hate to do it, but our family can officially retire Garrys from our SP restaurant lineup. read more

We've been going to Garry's off and on for about 20 years... On more than off lately. I don't know how long the latest owners have owned it, but it's been a while and my review pertains to them. Garry's has good food. My personal favorites are their comfort items... Country fried steak and meatloaf. They never disappoint. My wife loves the Garry's salad. I haven't gotten anything I didn't like. The food is not super gourmet, but all the dishes are well thought out and well prepared. The restaurant itself is nice, not super cushy, but comfortable and clean. It feels like a place that's been around forever and it has. Went here for the first time the other day and my main complaint has nothing to with the restaurant but with the google GPS! So of course, I'm not marking this against their rating, but for anyone reading this also having a problem finding the place (our GPS had us turn left into the shopping center before this place and made it look like it was right by JoAnn fabric store). Garry's is located in the next shopping center off of Baltimore Annapolis blvd, where there is also Vida Taco Bar, a hair salon, Kogen Dojo, Rockwell Fitness, etc. So if you put any of those places into your GPS you will end up in the right area. It's all the way on the other side of the parking lot (past Rockwell Fitness) if you're turning left into here from Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. Anyway, onto the food! I got the veggie burger they have with ghost pepper cheese and the cheese was on point! It was definitely pretty spicy. I normally aways get pepper jack when available at places and I don't find it spicy at all. So this was a nice cheese option. We also had tater tots as an appetizer and I got their fries with my burger. All in all, nothing about it was spectacular, but it also wasn't bleh so I would definitely come again! What I like most about this place is that it's definitely a place for locals. It seemed like they have their regulars, and that is always nice to see in a restaurant. Diamond in the rough in the heart of great local cuisine. I had the Benfield breakfast tacos with hash-browns. The tacos consist of scrambled eggs covered in shredded cheese, with tomatoes, green peppers, and chorizo sausage. They arrived at my table popping hot with a side of tasty salsa. Also, on the platter was a side of what they called "hash-browns", I call them fried potatoes. Either way they were really flavorful, some of the best I have had in a while. The place is on the small side. And it is filled with locals. If you want a great meal with a friendly staff this is your place. read more

I know this is going to sound crazy, but we went here WITHOUT checking Yelp. We aren't usually in that area, but wanted lunch with an hour before our appointment. Saw words that promised food out front, went in and were seated immediately. I ordered a yummy sounding burger, something BBQ & Bacony, and I opted for a grilled chicken breast instead of hamburger. My husband got the spicy burger option. We both groaned in joy, and it got so graphic I had to use my fork to control the saucy scene. Both the coleslaw and the cheesy fries were delicious sides. The only hiccup was after the server asked if we wanted dessert and we said no, we waited another 5 minutes or so & then had to flag her back down and ask for the check. A minor communication error, I hope she was getting a snack because they were all busy. I really like that I could see and hear the guys working right next to our table. They were nice and hard-working, also good communicators. I wanted to personally thank them my food was so good, but I didn't because they were busy.
