We enjoyed one of the best Happy Hours in Mexico ever at the Bar, Lounge and Restaurant called Garufa. This place knows how to Happy Hour! This rooftop establishment with its incredible setup of indoor and outdoor rooftop settings. Plus, their combination of traditional Argentine, Italian and Mexican cuisines makes Garufa unique in all senses, gastronomical and tastiness and experientially. As you walk up the stairs one has no idea what to be expected. The moment you reach the top, the first thing that strikes you is the whiffs of various types of seasoned woods burning and the fabulous aroma of grilling meats throughout the restaurant and even more so in the outside rooftop area. Garufa's décor and styles are hard to describe as they are a mix of subtle modern, vegetations of various kinds placed about, yet spacious and open. The inside is more traditional, with mostly seating in groups of four, but outside the seating capacity ranges from small to large groups -making it a very familial and social environment. We started our adventure with the fabulous Garufa Margarita, Coctel de la Casa (Cocktail of the House) Mil Diablos (100 Devils), a fantastic sampling of Jamón y Queso that was astoundingly tasty and seemed as if freshly prepared. As we began to enjoy the initial stages of dusk, with the sun beginning to set over the open-air rooftop, we ordered our meals. Lomo al Vino Tinto, a gorgeous steak perfectly marinated in red wine, the Cowboy Ribeye con hueso (bone-in) was exquisite in its thick cut and grilled to perfection, the Lomo Argentino which turned out to be fabulous, the Churrasco Top Sirloin which blended a fab steak with a perfectly sumptuous Churrasco, and my wife's incredible Costilla Cargada (loaded) short rib corte delagado (thinly sliced) was to die for. As if really needed, some sides were ordered that turned out to be fabulous that included papas al horno, espinacas ala crema and a terrific Carpaccio de Res. I might mention that most Americans are used to our U.S. big box and corporate Churrasquerias or Steakhouses - don't expect that you'll have servers and carvers stripping meat of skewers with knives at your table - here you order your own specific entrée or meals... more in line to a steakhouse. This place is magnificent, from its décor, to the fabulous service, an incredible atmosphere, to the magnificent taste and quality of meat makes this a must stop while in San Miguel Allende. Oh for -- sake! This isn't a pizza place. This is an awesome Argentinian restaurant with delicious steaks! Sorry it isn't fancy fish tacos for the Americanos, but it's fabulous. If you climb all the way to the rooftop, you can admire the view of the Parroquia de San Miguel, while dining on 5 star Argentinian steak. Considering the silver mining history of the region, this is a perfect place to appreciate the rich multicultural heritage of this beautiful city. (Extra points if you understand that reference). We were recommended to this place, also known as "Tres Maria's". It's a very nice looking place and wanted a family dinner to celebrate my mother's birthday, however, the whole family was disappointed. We got tamarindo drinks that we had to send back, because it tasted more like flavored water. No favor at all. We also got 2 different kids of cuts. Beef chorizo Mariposa, which was mainly fat. The arrachera meat, was also not good. The al pastor meat tastes better at a basic taco stand. The beer we received was warm... not cold. We asked for cup of ice, they gave us 3 small ice cubes. We will not be coming back. We paid a lot of money and did not like a single plate. read more

Last minute dining option here; and I regret it. We were offered the rooftop, which is nice, but it was freezing , the heater was hardly providing heat, and the other one on my sister's side didn't work at all. Food was very overpriced and for the price I would've wanted more taste and flavor. Service sucked, and we tipped accordingly (400 pesos) to that lack of service, mind you it was only us and 2 other tables with a couple sitting a piece, so wasn't busy at all. When we were going down the steps to leave, the server ran down the steps and demanded more of a tip amount, which I only gave 100 pesos more. I'm very polite so I handed that over. I do not recommend you to go at all, it's overpriced for what the food tastes like. Will not be returning, good riddance read more

Beautiful setting, but the food didn't match. Should have stuck with the meats, as the rib eye empanadas were the bomb. Half the menu was Italian food, so figured it was worth a try- nope. Pizza was bland, crust from a box & shrimp fettuccine tasted like spaghettios read more

Lowkey MID! Do not necessarily recommend unless you enjoy paying for overpriced (but not good) food! I got the cheese stuffed pesto ravioli, I only got 9 ravioli squares... Our #1 rule when it comes to eating when we travel: "Follow your nose." So in San a Miguel de Allende our noses led us Garufa. They started us with a delicious chimichurri with breads. I accidentally ordered the biggest steak on the menu. Not sorry! It did not disappoint in flavor but I will say at least 40% of it was pure fat. Waited over 30 minutes for someone to wait on me before I gave up and left. It wasn't crowded, but the rest of the customers didn't look like me. Perhaps they resented my ethnicity, perhaps my race, or perhaps they are simply lazy and poorly managed. The food looked good for those who were deemed worthy to be waited upon. read more

We had a group of 5 adults, including my husband, two girlfriends, another husband, and me. We sat on the roof for 4th of July and had an amazing meal and time. We had fantastic service from Rojo and Dulce- they were our new amigas by the end of the night. We had appetizers, entres, and desserts, along with cocktails and wine. Everything was great! We would definitely return and ask for Rojo and Dulce again. As far as some of the negative remarks about food coming out at different times, this is pretty standard in Mexico. I prefer to get my food when it is ready versus having it sit under a heat lamp until everyone else's is ready, too. That being said, we spend a lot of time in Mexico so I'm used to that, and we all usually share our food, too, so things get passed around. As far as fine dining goes in Mexico, this was great food with a fun atmosphere and a beautiful rooftop, where we even caught part of the fireworks show! I highly recommend Garufa! read more

I are on rooftop and had a margarita before dinner. It was average at best. Ordered mushroom fettuccine which was quite bland lacking any kind of seasoning including salt and pepper. The view is nice but does not compensate for the poor food, poor drink and high price. read more

We made a reservation for six and are on the rooftop. It was a cool night so they lit a heater. The restaurant is very attractive and the food was delicious. One person said she had the best tacos of her visit to Mexico here. The only reason for not giving five stars is that the service was slow, probably due to short-staffing because of COVID. Took awhile to get service and we had to go find the waiter for our bill. Even so we would definitely go back and recommend Garufa. read more

A very pleasant appearance, cordial wait staff and a very good meal. I assume that this is primarily a steak house and we are not big carnivores, but we had a very good meal, none-the-less. We both had the Serrano Ham Salad which had a bounteous combination of spinach, ham, eggs, asparagus, almonds and more. My wife's lentil soup was delicious and I finished off with the appetizer of Argentinian sausage--called chorizo, but more like a slightly spicy Italian sweet sausage. It was a very adequate amount of sausage with a bounty of grilled onions and a few hot peppers. With agua minerale it came to $30 US. read more

The atmosphere is lovely; over looking the city. Clean restroom and restaurant. Staff attentive but careless. Services is incredibly slow!!! We had to remind them of our food order. You definitely can't go wrong with La Garufa. Service is outstanding and the food is amazing. All of the steaks are cooked and seasoned to perfection. You can try any of them with the house-made chimichurri sauce...so good! Recently I tried the Lomo Hambriento, which is a huge piece of beef tenderloin (plenty for two), and it came out perfectly medium, just as we had ordered. Before that, we shared an humita and a ham-and-cheese empanada. Both were fantastic, especially alongside that chimichurri sauce. This is must when in San Miguel and, though I am aware this is a chain restaurant, it is definitely a top-shelf chain. read more
