This was a really nice place to stop and have a meal while on our way to Mont Tremblant from NJ. Thanks to ChatGPT, it was identified as one of our best options -delicious minestrone soup, crispy chicken sandwich with truffle fries, Brie grilled cheese with sliced apple and fig jam!!! Reuben and house salad with candied walnuts. Bam! All fresh tasting and made to order.

Came to Garvan's with a group of friends, some of whom had been here before. Wifey had been here when it was another restaurant, but this was my first time. Very cool atmosphere and the owner was there as the host. Super friendly guy, so we started off on the right foot. We had reservations, so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was over quickly to ask about drinks once we all arrived. Choosing what to order was actually really difficult as there were 5-6 items I really wanted to try. Wifey and decided on sandwiches that we'd split. Wifey ordered the Grilled Cheese (Brie, fig jam, arugula, and sliced granny smith apples on sourdough Texas toast) and I ordered the Corned beef Reuben (corned beef, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing and swiss cheese on marbled rye) and a bowl of clam chowder to start. For drinks Wifey ordered the Wren (I don't remember what was in it) and I had a Nekomata (Basil Hayden Bourbon, Ghost Pepper infused honey, lemon bitters, muddled lemon). Drinks were both very tasty (I needed a second). I'm pretty snobby when it comes to clam chowder, but I have no regrets...full of clams, perfectly cooked potatoes, and an amazing creamy and perfectly seasoned soup. Sandwiches were also great...one of the best Reuben's I've had - thick sliced and juicy corned beef with just the right amount of cheese, sauerkraut, and Russsian dressing. For dessert Wifey and I split the Guinness chocolate cake (Rich Chocolate Cake infused with Guinness, Topped with Whipped Cream Cheese Icing) and each had a coffee. Coffee came in a French press (ooooh, fancy) and both of us wished we had more because it was so good. And come on, how can you go wrong in an Irish place with Guinness chocolate cake?!? Great service, great food, great vibe - 10/10 I'd come back here again.

Beautiful surrounding grounds and the restaurant is in a quaint converted big old house. The house holds many rooms at all three levels and if your party is lucky you'll get a private room. Feels like you're at home. Easy parking. Staff and service excellent. On to the food and drinks: Beer: excellent - tried 3-4 and all fresh and perfect. 6points and Guinness our fav. Drinks: sadly not very good; pear cocktail, bees knees and others just not up to par. Berry mocktail was okay, to bland and no pop, needs improvement. House soda bread and butter: great ! Appetizer: tuna was okay but not seared all around as should be; salads good; stuffed mushroom very good. Main: dry aged steak good; angus burger excellent!; fries don't seem homemade and we were not fans; Scallops delicious Dessert: affogato average at best; Guinness chocolate cake good but lacking Guinness flavors. Coffee and tea: excellent! Great French press coffee served and hot tea properly served! Nice to see! A cool change from the typical restaurants. Authentic Irish food. Price point high but worth the splurge. 4 stars for food but due to great service, uniqueness and atmosphere it push's it to a 5. Nice to take a walk on the grounds after dinner. Will always return here, especially for a family occasion. Keep up the great work Garvin!

We found this charming establishment quite accidentally on our way to Mohonk Mountain House. It was the best decision we made!! From the moment we arrived and were greeted we felt as if we were in someone's home as a guest and then... we met Garvan!!! Garvan is a sincerely gracious and humble host who chatted with us about travel to Ireland. It was truly a pleasure to meet and talk with him. ALL the staff were amazing including our waiter, Aiden. I am so upset to say I can't recall Garvan's son's name- Dillon??? Ugh! But he is just as charming as his dad and we very much appreciated his hospitality!! Last but not least, the food!! Everything was delicious but worth mentioning are the street corn carrots!! We sat on the patio on the most lovely afternoon looking out into the meticulously maintained yard- it was so peaceful and the most perfect way to start our weekend getaway!!

We came here to celebrate my birthday with my two kids and the partners. When I made the reservation they asked if this was for an occasion and I made the mistake(I'll explain later) if saying it was my birthday it was to celebrate my birthday. I have been coming here for years and Garvan himself greeted us so warmly and shook all of our hands. And wished me a happy birthday. Every member of his staff were all very warm and friendly. Megan was our server and took great care of us. My daughter, who is vegan, was excited to see that they now have a completely vegetarian menu with several choices for her. They were very accommodating to my wife's garlic allergy and the chef made a special preparation of the sauce without the garlic. I had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. I am not a fan of sauces on my steak but the one served with this (which contained some Jack Daniels was subtle and delicious. No one had a complaint about the food. The biggest complaint was from the women who ordered pasta dishes and couldn't finish. The drinks were excellent and the desserts also. And when they came to serve all the servers (about six or seven ) showed up and sang happy birthday with a candle stuck in my crème brûlée and much to my wife's delight had me turn several shades of red. I have never had a bad or mediocre experience here. I look forward to next year and I'm coming here to have my 70th birthday here!! Thanks Garvan, you guys all give us a great time.

The food was absolutely delicious! Such a great choice for Mothers Day dinner. The restaurant it's was so interesting and had an old world charm. Our waitress was fantastic and every staff member was so courteous and friendly. Would highly recommend!!

The food is unmatched. Short ribs well known for a reason and the appetizers are also so good. I loved the crab cake. I've also tried their mushroom pasta which isn't pictured but very very good. Service is always very nice and the vibes of the place are so cozy but classic.

Fig jam, prosciutto and Gorgonzola flatbread. The flavors worked and this was extremely tasty and we gobbled it up. Highly recommend.

I just love this place. Been here about three times now and never had anything I didn't like. The restaurant is a very quaint and cozy colonial home, Where you can sit on the porch to eat. The service is excellent, all the waiters know the specials. They bring the food out in a correct manner and when it should be brought out. The food is excellent. I've had a lot of dishes from the flatbread to the steak to the burger and to the crème brûlée. All were excellent dishes. I can't say enough good things about this place. Go, no matter what the cost. It'll be worth it.

We ordered that every time we have eaten here in the past. Weird burger combos were noted. I asked about a burger with gorgonzola cheese - instead of the feta cheese that came on one of the burgers. I was told no - they don't have any. Their other restaurant right next door makes a gorgonzola burger. They are always going back and forth to get stuff - why couldn't they just say yes, and grab a bit of gorgonzola from next door? Note that this was around 5:00 pm and there was just one other table occupied, and two people at the bar who were leaving. I wanted a burger, but didn't like any of the weird choices, so I got a Reuben sandwich. The fries were good, but for $17, I would have hoped the corned beef would be good as well. It wasn't very moist or fresh - in fact there were weird brown areas on the meat. I chalked it up to a bad choice. My partner ordered the Philly steak sandwich on a baguette. He has had the French dip sandwich there in the past and liked it. Unfortunately it was no longer on the menu, so he ordered the closest thing. He said he would not order it again, and that says a lot. I tasted it - and it was just not very good. Sorry to say but it is unlikely we will be back.

Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday…read moreafternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. The target demo for this feels a little more 2am college student than hungry hiker in the afternoon.
